[vchkpw] vqmaillocal

2004-01-04 Thread Shaun Reitan
The other day i just noticed vqmaillocal and was excited to see that i didnt
need to put vdelivermail in each users .qmail file but now i see a read me
that says '** vqmaillocal has not been actively maintained and should not be
used. **'. I would love to see this finished. Are there plans to finish
it? Estimated date?

[vchkpw] prolem with authorisation against /etc/passwd

2004-01-04 Thread vchkpw
hello everybody,

i´m wondering if anybody can give me the hint i need to solve my
problem with qmail vpopmail.

at the moment i´m using vpopmail-5.4.0-pre2.

what i want is use qmail vpopmail with authorisation against /etc/passwd.

my problem is that i want the virtual domains to reside in the path
/path-to-vpopmail/domains ...
but if i add a virtual user and then try to get my mails i get the error
-ERR authorisation failed

what does work is if i use the path /home/ instead of /path-to-vpopmail/
then i can get my emails but that is not where i want my mails to reside in
/home/$USER.

please correct me if i´m wrong but i think this is an vpopmail vchkpw issue.

can someone help me please?

thanks and kind regards

thomas h.

2004-01-04 Thread caosir
Hi,

please re-configure re-compile vpopmail with options: --prefix=/path-to-vpopmail.

then add your virtual user by command: /path-to-vpopmail/bin/vadduser username

password... great !

  With outlook i'm retreiving
mails...
when i make any mistake in the
password, it say me :

  Jan 1 21:47:31 noao2
vpopmail[379]: vchkpw: password fail [EMAIL PROTECTED]:80.170.xx.239

  and when no mistake :

/var/vpopmail/domains/akeoboutique.com/postmaster [EMAIL PROTECTED]:80.170.xx.239

  Strange, isn't it
  Thanks for your help

Have you tried creating a normal user and trying to get it then, i have
never tried retrieving the postmaster email, i have it forwarded to my
main account.

thank you for that hint but it does not work.
if i add the user thomas, the path
 /path-to-vpopmail/domains/thomas/Maildir...
is created as i want it.

If you 'vadduser [EMAIL PROTECTED]' you /CAN'T/ auth against
/etc/passwd, as 'this' Thomas, with his mails being delivered to
'/path-to-vpopmail/domains/example.com/thomas/Maildir' is a member of
'example.com' and not a system user.
You have to user your complete e-mail-address as username than.

If you want /SYSTEM users/, those with a Maildir usually somewhere in
/home/..., to fetch their mails too you can compile vpopmail allowing
to authenticate against /etc/passwd (respectively /etc/shadow). If you
don't want system users to fetch their mail, but only mails from
somewhere below '/path-to-vpopmail', you should, for security reasons,
NOT enable passwd password verification at vpopmail compile time.

RE: [vchkpw] Vpopmail 5.4.0-rc1 released

2004-01-04 Thread David Hubbard
From: Tom Collins [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Someone mentioned something about putting in a patch
so that cram-md5 auth would work with vchkpw. I can't
remember who it was but does anyone know if this has
  been done?

Shoot. It hasn't been done. I'm visiting family for the
holidays, and haven't been able to spend much time working
on vpopmail. I wanted to get a release candidate out, but
I forgot that that patch was in my queue.

Someone (Bowe?) wrote (in a SourceForge tracker item) that
it might be incompatible with one of the smtp auth patches
 for qmail. I know for a fact that I can't use CRAM-MD5
from Apple Mail to my server, so I don't doubt that
 there's a need for a patch.

If anyone out there can test CRAM-MD5 auth, please try applying this
patch to rc1 and reporting back whether it fixes the problem. Also,
please report the source of your SMTP AUTH patch if known.

I just built a new mail server with 5.4.0-rc1, qmail 1.03
and that 0.42 smtpauth patch from the URL above and
cram does not work. Regular login and plain works
fine.
