I too share some concerns about the inclusion of domain quotas in the current development vpopmail In hindsight I believe it would have been better to sign off on a stable vpopmail, and then the new domain quota stuff could have been added to the next development series. I wonder if it would be hard to remove or not...? Was the domain quota additions limited to just a few functions, or was it pretty much substantial changes to much of vpopmail code? Michael.

You assign a total quota to the postmaster, then, using qmailadmin, each user quota is subtracted/added from the postmaster quota. In this way you assign a domain total, and the administrator may assign user quotas within that limit. That is compliant with all (Maildir++, Courier, vpopmail, sqwebmail, etc..) and very safe. I'm using it from months, and I'ld like to see that code inside standard qmailadmin. Tonino [EMAIL PROTECTED]Interazioni di Antonio Nati http://www.interazioni.it [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi, have you cleaned or removed the cdb file in /var/qmail/users ? At the start of my days with qmail and vpopmail I made a lot of mistakes, and one of them, regarding a domain that I removed by hand (a nice rm-rf), I solved by deleting ththat file and them creating all over again. Probably that was not the correct way of doing it, but it worked. [vchkpw] vpopmail 5.3.23 released
I'm leaving for the airport in 5 minutes, but here's the 5.3.23 release: 5.3.23 Tom Collins - Removed timezone declaration to correct compile problem on FreeBSD. 5.3.22 Moshe Jacobson - Fix maildir_to_email() to work with hashed domain directories. Matt Berardi - Add 2 second timeout on MySQL connections. Jens Jahr - Check for failure when calling auth module. - Fix vadddomain/vdeldomain when the auth module call fails. - Fix vsetuserquota to include status messages. Tom Collins - Add Date header to over quota warning message. - Fix possible buffer overflows when setting envbuf[1-4] in vchkpw.c. (bug spotted by Michael Bowe) - Remove error messages from vmysql.c that could interfere with POP or SMTP AUTH client sessions. - Switched from using --enable-default-domain to storing default domain in ~vpopmail/etc/defaultdomain. This should provide flexibility when compiling packages for distribution.

I realise that I have not been contributing patches to the vpopmail/qmailadmin projects but in my view it's almost as importent to contribute on the side of strategy and ideas. The recommendation that can bee found here: http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=vchkpw&m=105893690024181&w=2 Would GREATLY improve the usability of vpopmail in many environments. Re: [vchkpw] Backup Emailserver?
Rudi- If the servers are not geographically separated, then you can do this fairly easily by simply placing them behind some sort of load-balancing/fail-over device (Foundry, Cisco Local Director, Linux LVS director) and either load balance them or do active/passive failover. For the vpopmail database, if you're using MySQL, you can simply setup MySQL replication, however changes made to the secondary will not replicate back to the primary when it comes back up. For that you would need to run a third MySQL server to act as the update server which then replicates out to both clients. When the primary server came back online you'd simply dump the database on the update server and import that into the client and restart replication. Email files are even easier since you can simply use nfs on a third server, or look into a replicating file system like Coda or Intermezzo (both are supported in the linux kernel, but I have no real experience with either). If you deal in small volume of email, simply rsync'ing when the primary comes back online would probably also work, and copy the mysql database back over wouldn't be too much trouble either. The final option, if you have no hardware to spare for this, to handle smtp/imap/pop3 traffic failover would be to use some of the tools from the Linux-HA project and use a virtual IP to actually receive outside traffic on, and have that migrate to the unfailed server in the event of a failure. I've got a configuration similar to the first suggestion, and have built redundant pairs of machines using the second configuration, so let me know if you have any more specific questions regarding these sorts of setups. Re: [vchkpw] Backup Emailserver?
While I am not sure exactly how this works UUNET provides backup SMTP for me. I have an e-mail server at my site, should my site go down for any particular reason they catch my e-mail, and then when my site is back up all the e-mail starts rolling in. Now I know this is handled partialy by my MX record for the domain to whit: mydomain.com MX priority 10 mail.mydomain.com MX priority 15 mail.myisp.com I am pretty sure that even if you have two physical servers thats how you would set it up. As to how to get one server to recieve _everything_, unconditionaly, and then every know and then look to see if your primary server was alive, then forward everything it had received to your primary server and ONLY your primary server is a mystery to me. I know at one time that you had to perform an ETRN _from your primary server_ to get the backup smtp server to start sending all the stuff it collected for you while you were down, but I dont think that is the case anymore, your millage may very. It would seem to me you would want your secondary mail server someplace other then on the network that your primary is should you internet connection go down. [vchkpw] maildrop w/ tmda already working
Hello all, Sort of a backwards question. I've already taken the time to 'figure out' (poking and prodding really till I got it right.. ) how to put tmda in place for users in a vpopmail domain. What I'm now trying to do is put maildrop in for a user that I've already given tmda to. my question is.. what do I have to do to get maildrop to work? Obviously I would be calling tmda from a last rule in maildrop, and I have to take my .qmail files out that I have for the domain user.. but what do I need to do? I'm having trouble understanding exactly how vpopmail deals with my .qmail files in the root of the domain as opposed to in the users home. As in why do the .qmail files exist in the domain directory? if I already have a domain user bcook, why did I need to put .qmail-bcook and .qmail-bcook-default in the root of the domain? [vchkpw] PATCH: Define custom Domain Directory
I have noticed two recent releases and I must encourage that this patch (or a variation of it) to enter the development release. I have received great comments back via e-mail and a few through the list of people who love the feature and they seem to have tested it as working. What does one have to do to get this into the distribution for all to appreciate :) As opposed to having custom direcories to store domains in, this patch allows a user to simply store a domain anywhere- in a pre-existing directory for mail. [EMAIL PROTECTED] whenever i try to send mail to it Sorry, no mailbox here by that name but, its there in domains/domain2 as a pop3 account i did a vdeluser and vadduser same thing it shows up in qmailadmin but it cant receive mail nor can it login (pop3, sqwebmail, etc) I fixed this problem by doing a vdeldomain then vadddomain and recreating the accounts. However, this cannot be the best (only?) way to get these accounts to work again. I dont want to manually recreate 25 domains each with 100 users... then tell each user that they have a new password. Tom (and others, I'm not sure who) have setup qmailadmin and vpopmail projects at SourceForge. Part of that is an area where you can upload patches. Tom is on vacation until August 1st, but that's still the best place to submit patches/bugs/etc. https://sourceforge.net/projects/vpopmail/ https://sourceforge.net/projects/qmailadmin/ Lots of very good work going on lately... No, I'm sure, but right now I think there's a lot of work going into cleaning things up and making some basic decisions on how things should work going forward. I'm sure there's plenty of people that would love to see a PHP qmailadmin work-alike, and there is already one (kind of) for squirrelmail, in the form of a plugin. It's a hack though. When the next devel cycle happens, I think it would be worthwhile to look at turning vpopmail into a fully db-backed delivery agent. Some goals that that would help accomplish are: -easy development of a web frontend in any language that can talk SQL -easy integration with other web products, such as squirrelmail -ability to use vpopmail with other MTAs -easy integration with many billing backends -more efficiency; instead of having to read upwards of five files for every delivery and executing as many programs, one db call and one call to a filteing program. It seems to me that vdelivermail is very close to being able to do this. Additionally, working support for other MTAs into vadd/delete would not be terribly difficult... I think a vchkpw-devel list would also be worthwhile. It has helped keep things in order for qmailadmin... Charles > Gérald > > > >
