[VFB] Gone Fishin'

2010-01-04 Thread Chuck Alexander
Well folks: I have wanted to go fishing ever since my last trip out LOL.. It's
18 degrees here right now, with a wind-chill in the single digits. So, I'm
going fishing in my boat, in my shorts, in a tee shirt, and in flip
flops...Last time I did this, I caught a box of frozen fish sticks... Talk
later LOL, Chuck

Folks: I have a question on tying flies smaller than , say, a size 16. Or a
size 14 in some cases. Like, how do you get all the materials tied into (or
onto LOL) a Royal Wolff)??I have been reading as much as I can about bluegill
fly fishing and fly tying,.and I was just reading about tying foam ants, and it
said NOT to tie bluegill flies too small as the bluegill has a strong sucking
power for insects that drop onto the surface of the water and they'd even take
a size 28 in a foam ant and would hurt themselves as they'd swallow a fly that
small all the way down their throat. So, it said to go to a bigger fly. like a
size 18 or a 20. Well, I can barely even see a size 18 or 20 hook, even with my
reading glasses on, much less tie a fly on one. Does anybody here tie flies
regularly in a size 18 or smaller??? If so, what is your secret?? Thanks, Chuck

2010-01-04 Thread Anthony Spezio
We have about 5 of snow. It this area, that is a lot. For those that have been
to my house, you know about the mile hill. We are snowed in. For months the
river has been high with the dam releasing a lot of water. The coldest days
that we have had, they have shut down in the mornings adding insult to
injuries. Looking at low water  when the temps are in the teens is not too
inviting, at least not at my age..

I just remembered that St. Croix used make pool cues too. My wife has one
that I bought her 30 some years ago. I don't think they make them anymore,
so you'll probably just be stuck with getting a rod.

Subject: [VFB] Tying Small Flies...

Folks: I have a question on tying flies smaller than , say, a size 16. Or a
size 14 in some cases. Like, how do you get all the materials tied into (or
onto LOL) a Royal Wolff)??I have been reading as much as I can about
bluegill fly fishing and fly tying,.and I was just reading about tying foam
ants, and it said NOT to tie bluegill flies too small as the bluegill has a
strong sucking power for insects that drop onto the surface of the water and
they'd even take a size 28 in a foam ant and would hurt themselves as they'd
swallow a fly that small all the way down their throat. So, it said to go to
a bigger fly. like a size 18 or a 20. Well, I can barely even see a size 18
or 20 hook, even with my reading glasses on, much less tie a fly on one.
Does anybody here tie flies regularly in a size 18 or smaller??? If so, what
is your secret?? Thanks, Chuck

Gary: What I was saying is that if I wanted to sell you a book by
Author X.. It would be worth more to you (and the average buying) it it were
just signed by Author X than if it were signed To Chuck, Good Luck, Author
X right?? Cause you don't want MY name in it, you only want the authors name
in it. That's what I was saying in Tony's case. Unless the buyer is a fan of
both Tony and the author, a book signed withOUT a personalized inscription is
worth more money on the open market. Chuck

Well, maybe, but if it were signed To my good friend Tony Spezio,
it would be worth MUCH more. :-)

Gary: What I was saying is that if I wanted to sell you a book by Author
X.. It would be worth more to you (and the average buying) it it were just
signed by Author X than if it were signed To Chuck, Good Luck, Author X
right?? Cause you don't want MY name in it, you only want the authors name
in it. That's what I was saying in Tony's case. Unless the buyer is a fan of
both Tony and the author, a book signed withOUT a personalized inscription
is worth more money on the open market. Chuck

Well, maybe, but if it were signed To my good friend Tony Spezio, it would
be worth MUCH more. :-)

We have about 5 of snow. It this area, that is a lot. For those that
have been to my house, you know about the mile hill. We are snowed in. For
months the river has been high with the dam releasing a lot of water. The
coldest days that we have had, they have shut down in the mornings adding
insult to injuries. Looking at low water when the temps are in the teens is
not too inviting, at least not at my age..

  Subject: [VFB] Tying Small Flies...

Folks: I have a question on tying flies smaller than , say, a size 16. Or a
size 14 in some cases. Like, how do you get all the materials tied into (or
onto LOL) a Royal Wolff)??I have been reading as much as I can about bluegill
fly fishing and fly tying,.and I was just reading about tying foam ants, and it
said NOT to tie bluegill flies too small as the bluegill has a strong sucking
power for insects that drop onto the surface of the water and they'd even take
a size 28 in a foam ant and would hurt themselves as they'd swallow a fly that
small all the way down their throat.
