*Subject: [VFB] Any More Bream Flyfishers here???*

*Folks: I live in N.E. but more like E Central as I'm 60 miles due East of
Birmingham, AL, and the only trout here are a few in the mountain stream,
but it is ALL Nat'l forrest and of course, all but impossible to get to
without hiking fo rdays, and with my bad back and hip it's just not an
option.. So, I flyfish for bream and sunfish (cause in Bama there have
been four pound bluegill caught NO fish tale there LOL)...Anyway, went to
my favorite watershed here yesterday afternoon to try out my early fathers
day fish/deptfinder, and the surface water temp is about 84.5 degrees, and
85 degrees drives the bluegills etc back into deeper (cooler) water.. So, I
didn't catch anything much cause I have been using bream killer "water bug"
flies, and tearin em up on the bed.. But, now, any suggestions to pull em
out of the deeper water??? I know I'll have to go to a sinking wet fly, but
which types would be best??? Thanks in advance.. Chuck da Newbie Flyfisher*

30 or 30.000 emails stored on Google's servers makes no difference in the
performance of my own computer, so I've never felt the need to keep my
Gmail inbox nice and tidy. It's inbox and archive in one.

2018-05-27 Thread Niclas (Gmail)
Glad to read about progress. Not that I would expect anything else from a
superhero like yourself, but still glad that also you can see it. Mental
health has never been our thing, but there has never been anything wrong
with our mental strength... and that's what counts when it comes to
recovery.

Best wishes from the Swedish Redneck with family. You're in our prayers.

2017-04-03 Thread Niclas (Gmail)
I started to "make" my own thread for flies smaller than #26. Picked out a
few filaments from a piece of GSP thread, waxed, twisted and put it on a
little spool. That was TRUE spiderweb... à la super strong. Using that on a
video it would look like the fly was tying itself while you were just
moving your hand around it. ;o)

Doesn't matter. I just made my folder as an example. I'll move your
picture.

The whole point with it was just *not spreading heavy mails into inboxes
you don't know anything about*. If the photos are uploaded into folders or
together in a big bunch doesn't really matter since you can link direcly to
the picture you want to share..

Re: [VFB] sent to the Fly Tying Forum

2015-07-30 Thread Niclas (Gmail)
*Posted on FlyTyingForum by my supportive friend Neville:*

*I am posting this on behalf of Niclas Runarsson, whose access to this
forum was removed unfairly. Niclas lives in Söderhamn, Sweden which is 9
hours different than my local time in Vancouver, BC. By the way, I am not a
bait fisherman but a long time fly fisherman.*

**

*First: Tup's Indespensable is a friend of mine who I told this to. He
was just trying to help me to get my access to the forum back and should
not be frowned upon for that.*

*From my side, this has never been complaining about anything. I just
politely asked(!) admin to remove it. The picture is hardly the pride of my
website, but since I saw that the account owner himself already had asked
for the same thing, I didn't think it would be a problem. I just expected
an Aha... we must have missed that back then.*

*I did read the FTF rules before I asked and they clearly state: You agree
not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you
or this bulletin board. - So the material was owned by me but posted by
someone else... the account owner had already asked for the same thing. Why
would I feel uncomfortable with at least asking for it to be removed
myself?*
*The only reason that my own request took me more than one message was that
the admin didn't seem to understand what I meant, so I just tried to
clarify what I thought I was failing to explain. If he simply had said NO
(or just ignored my message), everything would have ended right there. But
obviously I tried too hard to explain (maybe I'm a bad explainer) and I got
deactivated. Maybe he thought it was all about complaining. But the only
thing I was doing was trying to clarify what I thought I'd been unclear
about.*

*I never wished to complain or disrupt anything (which was also why I
contacted the admin by PM). I've been an FTF member since 2008 and have
never misbehaved on this forum. My only wish now is to get activated again
so I can continue to use the forum... with or without the photo still in
the database.*

*What I can't understand, is why my request was more offensive than that of
Mickalo who also asked for the picture to be removed as he did not post it.
Only one of us had their access removed from the list.*

I'm getting tired of people posting my flies and stating that they are

I know what copyright is about and until today I thought it was the same
over there but on a certain discussion forum where you also can upload
patterns to a pattern database I ran into a brick wall. The discussion with
the administrator has been ridiculous But as an administrator I'd like to
assume that he should have some knowledge about rules and laws... and since
he's not bending one inch (and getting more and more rude), it's not that I
start to wonder if I'm wrong myself.

Someone else has used a photo (taken by myself) from my site and used it
for uploading a pattern in the forum's pattern database. First he thought I
meant that it was my pattern and he wanted to see a patent ID. I explained
that the pattern was beside the point and that it was the picture that was
the issue. I think I got that through. But he's still wants to see a patent
ID to remove it or stop wasting his time because I'm bringing up shit that
noone but I even care about.

 Question:
Is copyright different in US. Has a US discussion forum more rights than
a private person to publish copyrighted pictures?

Re: [VFB] Copyright and discussion forums...

2015-07-28 Thread Niclas (Gmail)
The worst thing is really what he did... not what he didn't do.

IF I had had the contact information that any other person would have
used for an email about something like this, I would have used it. But I
didn't find it, so the only way was to log in and use a personal message.
But it doesn't change it from being an any other person issue...
During the 7 years I've been a member I have never said a bad word on that
forum. But tired of a discussion he took the forum away for something I
didn't even do as a member... just any other person with a website. :(

wrote:

Rights to the fly was what he thought I meant from the start but then it
didn't matter how many times I pointed out that it was the rights to the
PICTURE... he just couldn't let go of his patent ID request.
Now I have that photo with a waterstamp on my page and am about to do the
same with the rest of the photos there. (This was just a part of the work
to clean out the other ones.) If THAT photo had been the one uploaded I
wouldn't have cared (and I told the admin that too)... and I even asked if
 replacing was possible myself.
I also said that I still had the original photo, taken 2007, full
resolution, totally unedited/unresized/uncropped (including a bit of my
tying room wall) if he had any doubts. Did he care to ask me for it? No, he
 still demanded a patent number.

Funny fact... if you can call it 'funny':
When it was uploaded 2011, a forum topic started, with the picture and a
link to the pattern database (automatically generated I guess). The user
immediately posted and said that *he hadn't uploaded it*... someone must
have uploaded it with his user name and *he asked admin to remove it*...
 but it wasn't removed.
The even more funny(?) fact. As I linked to this forum topic (twice) in
last night's discussion *the admin could see that other user saying it
wasn't his and requesting to have it removed!!!* But still the only thing
removed is user Runarsson's rights to use the forum.

 http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=63177hl=%2Bemerger+%2Bbuzzer

I never had any complaints against the forum. FTF wasn't the one
uploading. I just asked for help. I wish I had started my discussion on
open forum instead, so people could have seen him refuse to remove my pic,
seen who was the polite part of the conversation and finally seen him put
an end to the conversation (and all my other FTF conversations) with a
simple *Your done budbye, Welcome to USA*

... or maybe he wouldn't have in front of all the others.

Consider water marking your photos with your website or company name and

copyright a fly by name but not really patent one. All it would take is
someone to change one material or change the quantity or size in a material
used. Tie it in another sequence, color, etc and the patent is useless. But
your picture is your picture and the laws are a little more straight
forward in regards to pictures. Watermark them so that if someone does link
to your server as they have done in the past or outright download the
images and then upload them somewhere else that there is at least a visual
clue to the reader what is really going on. You are due fair credit for
creation of those flies and there should be some ethics on the part of the
forum in question in giving and ensuring due credit is given. Now if
someone ties and photographs say an old but publicly known fly then the
credit to the pattern should go to the originator and the credit for the
photo (and tyer) should go to that individual. Please note that if you post
pictures to social media (including said forum) that generally in the fine
print you can find some legalese that claims ownership of everything you
post including pictures. Some media companies scour social networks for
original artwork to use in magazines, websites, etc. So be careful what you
post online because unless you own the server there is a good chance that
you don't own what you post there. And if set to publicly available, if may
even be interpreted as public domain. I can tell you without a doubt that
Facebook, twitter, etc all claim ownership over what you upload whether you
delete it or not (they don't really delete anything, just hide it). I think
we may find some humor and plenty of fodder for people seeking public
office, especially 20 - 30 years from now when many people don't take what
they post online very seriously. This is still the early days of social
media. I will say that Facebook does provide provisions on how to handle
theft of copyrighted material including words and photos, but you must
prove that you are the rightful owner. Nobody but you can file a claim.
YouTube has the same mechanisms and probably a few others.

Re: [VFB] sent to the Fly Tying Forum

2015-07-28 Thread Niclas (Gmail)
I have found user 'mickalo' on another forum, so I have now sent him a PM
there (since I can't on FTF anymore). Have asked him to say something in
the topic, not necessarily much different from what he have already said
there... just to show that he *still* doesn't want to take credit for
someone else's work (and at the same time, with the post give the topic a
little extra time in the New Content list).

[VFB] Copyright and discussion forums...

2015-07-27 Thread Niclas (Gmail)
So, guys - here's one for you...

Background:
I'm getting tired of people posting my flies and stating that they are
their own. The more flies with different owners showing up in picture
searchs makes the ownership of the material on my own website unclear.

Has a US discussion forum more rights than a
private person to publish copyrighted pictures?

A good and user friendly way to share megabyte pictures is DropBox.
Uploading to a DropBox folder and then send the link to this folder in the

Re: [VFB] CORRECTION

2014-06-05 Thread Niclas (Gmail)
I don't know how to read that. If it was taken as anything but a joke, I
apologize for that. The real reason for that lock screen is really that
when I bought the tablet Emelie wanted to show all her friends the iPad
that daddy had bought. It was just a joke. I do have an iPad too, which
was given to me from work. But I hardly ever use it. Personally I don't
like iOS products one bit. They make you so limited as a user since they've
left no room for customizing. There's no your way to talk about... only
their way. I use it for streaming movies since the screen is better than
on the tablet... and it's a welcome complement so the girls have one each
to play on. But that's the only place it has here. I'd chose an Android any
day of the week.

Re: [VFB] Back in biz...

2014-05-05 Thread Niclas (Gmail)
I haven't been anywhere special. The only reason for the break was that the
tying started to feel like an obligation. In the end I tied just because I
hadn't tied in a couple of days. That feeling when you get an idea or see
something and just NEED to put it on a hook was gone. So I decided to take
a break... instead of continue tying for the sake of tying with the risk
to kill something completely. It felt right. Months passed and I didn't
miss it at all. But everytime I was into the tying room (now Teresa's extra
storage room) and saw the vises standing there, I knew that I would be
coming back. I could feel that it wasn't gone... just a little bit worn out.

He had felt pretty good during his last day. It was not like that horrible

was your prayers...

Three days after coming home from England I was at work when I got a phone
call... Your father is really really sick now. So I just packed my bags
again and booked a ticket to Iceland, where I have my (Icelandic) father's
side of the family. He's got a stage 4 prostate cancer and has now been
placed at a hospice in Kopavogur. Lately his health has been like a roller
coaster and he has gone in and out of hospital. Now he had gotten an
infection and was also constantly losing blood.
His cancer had now spread to the bones and the treatment didn't do
anything anymore. But an alternate treatment was planned, though he had to
be both stronger and more stabile than he was for the moment. So he hadn't
been placed at that hospice for the same reason as the other patients
there, to get as much life quality in their last days. It was just better
for him to be there for now.
I had been there for 5 days and my sister for 2 and we sat alone with him.
The fever rised and everything got worse. The situation reached the level
where the nurses got other faces, offered us a book with the title At The
End to prepare us... and finally also offered us a priest to help us with
support. And when people with extensive experience of dying patients are
doing things like that... you more or less know what to expect and we
called his fiancé and my other sister. So for a couple of hours we all then
sat there looking at his breathing and wondering if there would come
another breath after that... when he suddenly stopped moaning and started
to breath normally again and finally fell asleep. The man surprised
everyone, including staff... and when we came back the next day we couldn't
believe our eyes when we entered the room and saw him in sitting in his
 chair laughing at the TV.
I had to go back home to Sweden the 23:th. Christmas Eve at home is the
price of having children. But daily reports from my family has said that
after this horrible night he has slowly but steadily gotten better and
better... one foot in front of the other... and optimism has found its way
into us again. Maybe he would get a chance to get that treatment after all.
Isolating his cancer to his bones could give him a considerable amount of
 time.
But this morning I talked to my sister. Yesterday her husband (also a
doctor) had spoken to my father's doctor, who said something none of us had
expected after seen him climbing like this. We should hope for weeks
rather than months. My sister didn't catch the reason why but obviously
something still is very wrong, despite the looks of it.
This got a little bit longer than planned. Making long stories short has
never been my field. The only thing I wanted with it was to ask for
prayers... that this probably rather short time that he has left will be as
 pain free as possible.

 Hello,

I'm sorry for this odd request because it might get to you too urgent but
it's because of the situation of things right now.

I’m with family on vacation in London, United Kingdom, we got mugged last
night in an alley by a gang of thugs on our way back from shopping, one of
them had a knife poking my neck for almost two minutes and everything we had
on us including my cell phone, credit cards were all stolen, quite honestly
it was beyond a dreadful experience for us but looking on the bright side we
weren't seriously hurt or injured and we are still alive so that is whats
important. I've reported to the cops here and canceled all our cards,it
appeared I had acted quickly enough or they almost would have succeeded in
cleaning out my bank account. I'm really having some difficulties clearing
our hotel bills and also need to pick up a voucher ticket at the counter for
us to catch a flight back home as soon as possible.

All we need right now is £1,650pounds, but anything you can spare pending
when we get things straighten out will be appreciated and I promise to
refund as soon as we arrive home safely.

Write me back and let me know how soon you can get it to us asap.

 Scott.

 For your info.

Tony Spezio had major surgery on his lower esophagus yesterday, in Little
 Rock.

Tony is doing well and was due to be given a little solid food this
evening. He will be in the hospital till at least Thursday.

Prayers for a speedy recovery are appreciated.

Re: [VFB] Intro

2010-04-14 Thread Niclas (Gmail)
Dito. No cabin, very(!) seldom grumpy.. and still in my 30's.

Today I'm grumpy though. Got a(nother) nasty phonecall from my supervisor
this morning, that was the drop making the water flow over the edges. But
I'll be happy again after lunch... when I have gone over her head and
told her boss about how I've been treated the last week. I can already say
that her behaviour will have to change quite a bit if she wants to park her
butt (and her broom) in that office tomorrow.

It's a word-against-word situation, but her boss and I have been friends
since the days his drum sticks were setting the tempo of my guitar
solos. What I have to say won't flow out from his other ear... he knows
me really(!) well and won't for a split of a second even consider the fact
that my summary might be exaggerated. She has never been that popular among
the people in my seat, but today words will be taken for EXACTLY what they
mean, even though they will come from a person in a much lower chair.

I feel pretty (to say the least) certain that this will put a stop to her
taking advantage of the fact that unemployed can be miserable with life in
general, giving them a tendency to spice up any complaints they might be
having. But I bet she didn't see the trustworthy stage beer pal
coming... LOL

I wasn't reading into your Peak comments *at all*. I was only wondering
what you meant with 'equivalent'... the word... to reach a position where I
could actually START to see what you were saying in your comment. Regarding
this subject, I saw two possible definitions. 'Similar functioning' was one
of them... and that was all my question was about.

My link to Dyna-King (or even Dyna-King all together) had nothing to do
with why I asked the question. I mention Dyna-King simply because I
know more about them than I know about Renzetti. If Dyna-King hadn't been
one of the vises in the basket, I would have picked the one I knew most
about from the ones that were there.

But now, with 'similar functioning' from you, my initial
question is answered. So to fill you in on your own wondering...

I don't need painting reminders *until* I've actually started pushing...
which I don't think *queries* about *what someone is saying* qualify
as. The day I find that the reminder is not uncalled for and when it comes
from a moderator is the day my reaction will be different.

Together with flies tied on them, I also have them beside a millimeter ruler
(1 inch=25.4 millimeters - 1 millimeter = 0.03937).
http://www.swedneckflyfishing.com/32s.htm

TMC518 #32 is 3.5 millimeters (0.138). Straight part of hook shank, fly
part, is about 2 mm (0.079)... which is also the total length of a Mustad

I wrote this one for the book, but maybe it needs a little explaining.

Good fly fishing friends should meet face to face and rod to rod.

What I've written below and in the attachment, explains the quote
We have fly fishing friends we can see and visit. Then we have those
friends hat we've met and grown to call friend, on fly fishing e-mail
 lists.
Some of my fly fishing list friends are as close to me as other friends
 I've had
for years, although I haven't met most of them in person.

I'm sure you know what I mean.. . . Allan Fish, Tony Spezio, Don Ordes,
LarryJohnson, Doyle Sowersby, Iain Short, Jeff Frye, Deb Duran, Chuck
Alexander, Bruce Whittle, Dean Larson, Joe Fusco, Joyce Westfall, Keith
Passant, ReneZillmann, Nick Runarsson, Rick Zieger, Chris Cook, Ian
 Mitchell,
and on and on . .

If I left you out, I'm truly sorry, for I count all of you on the fly
fishing lists to which I belong as friends. Those above were the ones that
 came to mind mosteadily

My wife Jody will second that. She has a warm place in her heart for the
friends she made on the VFB, FFW, and HCFF lists who participated in
the Courage Swap, which Rick Zieger suggested - Jody calls the 50 fly tyers
who participated in the swap her RAINBOW ANGELS. Believe me, they
made a difference in Jody's bout with breast cancer. BTW, she's been cancer
free now for 6 years. To see the Courage swap flies, cilck on the
 attachment..

 Have a Goodun !

For the Fanatic Swap I'm currently tying a fly with a wing of something
that Tony gave me in a (quite
full) Bits Pieces bag, when I stayed at his house. I had no idea what it
was. I sat in front of the TV
and saw him fiddling with a black hair patch, saying I believe this is
 Russian Sable... long dense
underfur and very few guard hairs... and then saw the bunch of hairs after
he had cut it... I felt that
chill again. THAT'S THE 'JOHN DOE' PATCH THAT'S LYING BY MY VISE!!!

So, thank's DonO. The DVD made my day... twice!!

A quick search in the 'IMDB' (not the Internet Movie Data Base... but in
the Infamous Material Data Base) shows that it is a dubbing from Wapsi
called 'Natural Nymph Blend' (80% squirrel - 20% rabbit). It was bought in a
sport shop in Gävle in Sweden. I can't find the dubbing in Wapsi's product
catalogue though. But I found it here:

Nick: That is an awesome looking fly. It looks JUST LIKE a certain insect
that I'm trying to place but can't right now. A hellmagranite??? Or a
certain type stonefly?? I can't find the book I found it in right now, but
it looks IDENTICAL to that particular insect. Where do you get that squirrel
dubbing??? Can you make it yourself?? Thanks, Chuck

I got the DVD yesterday. It was a big Aha!!! I have had the technique
 explained to me in text
format once, but it seems that I had misunderstood some. That's why I have
 only used it with a
limited number of materials. But now the pieces fell into place... and I
 understood
 what he had
meant with the words 'easy' and 'simple'. and 'using any form of'.

I have a squirrel dubbing that has seemed like it was made for the purpose
 of giving me headache.
Short, stiff and sticky... and the noodles have been breaking into
fragments and fallen of the thread.
If someone, yesterday, had told me that it was possible to make a rock
 hard and segmented body
out of that one, I would have answered: Of course... laminate sand and you
 can make a rock hard
and segmented body out of that too.

Watched the DVD around 3 o'clock this morning (didn't yawn once). Today I
 dug
out that squirrel, just to give it a try (for the sake of it). First try
 attached...

*GO DON! WHEN'S THE NEXT ONE COMING*

Re: [VFB]Strange and Unusual hooks discussion

2009-11-30 Thread Niclas (Gmail)
It is bronzed (sloppy lighting), but it's not a Mustad 79666.
It's a Sealey, model 1768.B (which I haven't found anywhere either).

  Nick,

Third hook is something I won on an auction, 'Sealey 1768.B'. Haven't got a

 needed to have it. LOL

That looks like the Mustad 79666 (no longer available) if it's bronzed.
Those are getting to be collectors items. If it's stainless steel (which
this one looks like it might be), it's the Mustad 79666S, which is still
 available.

It's a Keel hook. If you put a little weight on the angled portion of the
hook and the hook point faces up.

I've got some of the 79666 hooks - you can only find them in spare-hook
bins in the stores. Mustad apparently didn't sell enough of them to make
 them worthwhile.

Dick Pobst wrote a book about them in 1974 - they're nearly weedless since
he point of the hook rides up:
*Fish the Impossible Places: The Story of the Keel Fly* by Dick
 Pobst

Wow! I just looked it up on Amazon. Gee. I could get wealthy - they only
show one used copy for $73.50.

I'll sell my copy for $500to my estate! G

[VFB] Re: Step-by-steps... comments?

2009-02-12 Thread Niclas (Gmail)
Not sure if I got you right there, but if you mean having the thread tied in
during the weaving process, this is hard... since one hand will be moving
back and forth under the hook and the bobbin will be hanging in the way.
Holding both strands in one hand and wrapping with the other when securing
it, is on the other hand nothing different from what I mean... once the
thread has been tied in again.

/Nick

On Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 3:14 PM, J Balmer jbal...@a5.com wrote:

I liked both, the parallel weave in particular. One way to solve the end
of weave process is to have the thread tied in where you end ahead of time,
hold both strands of woven material in one hand wrap thread w/ the other.
As to the touch dubbing, I'll try it on smaller hooks. Not sure why, but
I've gotten away from waxing thread when dubbing. This would save some time.
