Hello,I can't find where I read this (or else I'd credit the author), but when trying to talk to these kind of people, e-mails don't work. They're too easily delete.(Snail) mail works better. But what's best is to call them.
When calling them, be polite but be firm about your concerns. Get the names of everyone you talk to and record it and the date when you talked to them. Once you've expressed your concerns, ask the person for an answer. If the can't give you an answer, then ask to talk to someone who can. If no one can give you an answer, then ask them to call you back when they have an answer.

[videoblogging] how to videos

2006-05-04 Thread thetesarac

Folks – a while back I started something to get contributors to
add how to type videos to a site.

I am going along with it, but for the moment I am just starting to
add some myself, each day. Maybe it will catch on, maybe not, but it
should be useful nonetheless.

They are basically pointers around the web with some commentary –
some of you folks may already have been included.

My question is this. Do any of you have, or know of, how to type
vblogs on the web. Anything from cooking to fixing stuff (I have a
request for burning DVDs in the UK) to proper driving directions and
so on. It's specifically instructional/howto/help videos I am
interested in.

I'd appreciate some links so I can continue to add links and
commentary on them at http://vidyo.TV

[videoblogging] Re: how to videos

2006-05-04 Thread thetesarac

If i paid £250 for each vid, and had more than a couple, i'd be
broke.

It's interesting that they have categories though. I do have some
channels, but to be honest i've left it to tagging to decide how to
group your videos. I decided after some testing that peoples
interests are just too diverse and you end up missing people.

One thing that would be cool - a mashup of google maps and your
travel videos - something i thought about a year ago - well, not
specifically *your* travel videos :)

Thanks for the reply.

I received a couple messages from users wanting to know about the blip
visual archive. For others that might also be looking into it, you can
find it on the blip Control Panel and under Share With Others the
Sidebar option.

I finally got it to work. If you use the code from the preview window
(without making changes) and manually make changes within the html
itself, all is fine.
If you make the changes within the blip preview and push the Refresh
Preview button, the code has issues and doesn't show me anything.

Anyhow, looks great, works for me.

Thanks,Certainly, one way you could handle this is to create a seperate RSS feed for each type of video you have. (I.e., one RSS feed for your QuickTime videos. Another for your WMV videos. And yet another for your MP4 videos.)
Alternatively, you could create a single Atom feed, which would contain enclosure links for all your video files. (Not sure if iTunes supports Atom yet, so you may have to keep a seperate feed for iTunes even with this.)
Or, use RSS with the Media RSS extension, and create a single Media RSS feed which would contain enclosures for all your video files. (Again, like with Atom, I don't think iTunes supports the Media RSS extension, so you may have to keep a seperate feed for iTunes even with this.)
Personally, I prefer using Atom. (But the choice is yours.)See ya--

Hey, yeah. I like the idea for the project.

Wow, that's really beautiful and fascinating. In a very strange world, I
could imagine this being available as a standard transcribing service
that would take any text available online (famous speeches, poems, state
of the union addresses, etc.) and automatically remake it as a
VideoString slideshow.

Or perhaps an automated podcast-to-videoblog service: Podcast-Speech to
Text-VideoString

Anyhow, great work. A+!

That's very, very cool.

Once something like 'deep tagging' starts to be used more, something
like this could pull clips from an aggregator and there would be very
few limits to what kind of 'poem's one could write with it.

You are correct, Dawn.YouTube has a no download policy. You can embed the videos in a webpage (as long as they are served from YouTube's servers), but YouTube does not want to allow the videos to be downloaded and played from a location other than their own servers.
There are known work-arounds, but they are rather hack-ish (I'm the author of one of these work-arounds, so its most definitely hack-ish).-josh

things to You Tube for people reading the blog with a web browser and
continue uploading to the Internet Archive for people using rss readers.

Re: [videoblogging] can you do rss enclosures with video hosted by You Tube?

The other problem with YouTube:
Another problem with YouTube is their terms of use. You
should read them - especially section 5B. Basically what you are
doing when you upload your video to them is giving them the right to
do whatever they want with it, including selling it and not cutting you
in on the profits. You worked hard to make that video. Don't just give
it away to them!Damn straight. Always, always, always read the TOS. No matter how confusing it might sounds or obscure it is. Notable sections service/site provider's terms of service is something we hope to be adding to
testinggrounds.loadedpun.com in the near future. If anyone has information about any of the providers that we have listed by all means, leave a comment about it on testinggrounds. It will be a big help to everyone that uses it.

[videoblogging] Got My Ticket - Going To Vloggercon

2006-05-04 Thread Gena

There seems to be so much happening that is affecting what we are
trying to do here. On the one hand you have the phone companies trying
to re-define the free access nature of the Internet.

On the other hand I just read that the banking industry woke up and
discovered that it has serious problems with having a tier payment
plan. Think online banking, ATMs and massive electroninc fund transfers.

Don't know if it is too late for them to put their two cents in but
help is help. I don't mind that they wear pinstrips. Then there is
this thing on my foot about the UN WPTO and DRM restrictions for U.S.
based users.

I was thinking about what if they did lock down the Internet or
prevented me from distributing my content. It would be like going back
to the dark ages for me. I can't accept that. I won't. Nope.

I've tried to explain to non-vlogger/bloggers what this could mean and
folks don't get it. So I just got my ticket. How can I stay home?

So I want to invite at least one or two lurkers to take the plunge.
Come on, buy the ticket. http://www.vloggercon.com
