You said it! How crummy is it that iTunes inhaled the (OPML) iPodder directory, but won't share what they've got, too? Re: [videoblogging] Technorati OPML ??
I'm not sure the OPML file would be so large. The OPML file would have a single line of text for each blog containing the RSS URL of the videoblog, along with some elements to make the OPML work. Let's imagine that each line of text was 1K (probably an overstatement, but makes the math easy). Then the OPML for 9,000 videoblogs would be 9MB. The problem wouldn't be the OPML file--but what happened when you tried to load all those videoblogs in your aggregator. Probably explosions, smoke, flame, toxic fumes ;) This brings up a good question, how to make lightweight directories of videoblogs. OPML would be a good use of that, because it's used to make outlines (like a tree structure). Each person could edit their branch of the tree. But we'd need smart aggregators to be able to move from branch to branch without downloading unless we really wanted to. (Forgive me if the videoblog aggregators already do that. I just got started again with FireAnt, which I like a lot. I had it on my old computer, but then that computer died an ugly death, and it's taken me awhile to get a new computer and get it all set up again). Re: [videoblogging] Technorati OPML ??
Hello Lisa,What would be useful is a format that could split things into parts. For example: here's part 1 or 20, part 2 or 20,... part 20 or 20. (Kind of link the pages of a search engine result.) The Atom format has facilities for this. (Via rel-next and rel-prev via atom:link)Also, semantic HTML could do this. (Semantic HTML is just HTML using certain facilities, already built in to HTML, for add meaning.) For example, just use the HTML a or link elements with rel-prev and rel-next. And you could use the XOXO Microformat (or some other semantic HTML) as a replacement for for OPML. For example: div class=shows ul class=xoxo li class=show a media=screen rel=alternate bookmark type=text/html href="" href="http://www.kitkast.com/">http://www.kitkast.com/Kitkast/a (a media=tv rel=alternate type=application/rss+xml href="" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/KITKAST">http://feeds.feedburner.com/KITKAST Subscribe/a) /li li class=show a media=screen rel=alternate bookmark type=text/html href="" href="http://captainhumphreys.com/">http://captainhumphreys.com/Captain Humphreys Project/a (a media=tv rel=alternate type=application/rss+xml href="" href="http://chqt.blip.tv/posts/?user=CHQTskin=rss">http://chqt.blip.tv/posts/?user=CHQTskin=rssSubscribe/a) /li /ul a rel=next href="" Vlogs/a/div(Note: This semantic HTML probably needs alot more work though.)It's the hyperlink at the bottom -- the a element at the bottom -- that would take you to more stuff. (Also, you'd probably want to use another a element with rel-prev to get to the previous stuff.)
