Re: [Videolib] Films about words
Hey Jacki I'm very familiar with your work (we own a copy in the Media Center)...it definitely fits. Not sure whether my friend is just interested in mainstream features, but if not, I'll definitely recommend your film. gary Hi Gary, At the risk of seeming self serving, my film LETTERS NOT ABOUT LOVE, is an experimental documentary about words based on a correspondence between two poets, Berkeley's own Prof - Lyn Hejinian - and Russian poet Arkadii Dragomoshchenko. I gave them a list of words and asked them to write to one another about their meaning in the context of their lives and cultures. That correspondence took five years and is the basis of a script narrated by actors Lili Taylor and Victor Nord. No sync. A lot of montage. You can't get more word focused than this, but it may not be what you had in mind. (it's New Day... ) are we supposed to put links on this listserv? here's one, just in case: http://www.newday.com/films/LettersNotAboutLove.html My apologies if that's a no no. very best Jacki Ochs Human Arts AssociationVIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. [Videolib] Construction Resumes at the New Museum of Broadcast Communications
**Pardon cross-postings** I'm surprised I haven't seen any postings on this yet. I am happy to share the news that construction on the Museum of Broadcast Communications is finally back underway! I have seen designs and layouts for planned exhibits and taken tours of the space, and this place is going to be stellar. The location is great and the collection really deserves the beautiful space they are building. I highly recommend visiting once it is finally open. Their collection is astonishing. They have Bozo's buckets! Construction had been on hold for several years due to lack of funding. You may have passed by the shell of a building at State and Kinzie. Please visit the museum's website and read an article about the construction below. And don't forget, the Radio Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is this Saturday. Tickets are still available. Read more and learn about radio collection digitization projects at their website (http://radiohof.org/). http://www.museum.tv/ http://www.marinacityonline.com/news/repairs1013.htm Construction Resumes at the New Museum of Broadcast Communications Construction Resumes at the New Museum of Broadcast Communications The new 62,000-square-foot national broadcast museum in the heart of downtown Chicago at State and Kinzie Streets is back under construction. The new MBC will include expanded areas for collection development, two exhibit galleries and working radio and television studios. Over 240,000 visitors from across the country are projected for the first year of operation. The new MBC will also be a model of energy-efficiency, built to a Gold LEED environmental standard-the first such Museum in Illinois. The green building is designed and will be equipped to maximize energy efficiency, to minimize waste and pollution, to reduce the consumption of resources, and to enhance indoor environmental quality. The United States Green Building Council will review and commission the building upon completion. The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation provided a leadership grant of $1.4-million in 2005 that allowed the museum to set a high environmental standard. ~~ AnswersMedia Laura Fu Video Assets Manager 400 W. It was, indeed, a great show! I saw so many things we will start to order this week. And I got to meet my San Antonio colleague Farhad Moshiri who works across town but our paths had never met! I just watched this series on TCM last night. The Edison films were wonderful. I was wondering if Jessica had anything to do with the restorations on those when they were released a few years ago. It was a great experience for me indeed as a first timer. How wonderful to meet people in person on both sides of the spectrum, librarians and the publishers, whom I communicate with everyday by email, fax or mail. I was lucky to meet with Christine Crowley and use her knowledge and expertise in the field. I even found a fellow Wagnerite among the publishers' representatives. We talked a lot about Wagner operas over breakfast. Finally, I have to mention how much I enjoyed the free beer everyday! So, thank you all, organizers and attendees for making this a wonderful experience for me. Gary and deg, To add to the wordless doc list, from Bullfrog Films: Translation Possible http://www.bullfrogfilms.com/catalog/trans.html Using a simple filmic device, this film illustrates (visually, without words) the disorientation we all feel on encountering a new culture, and the way we gradually learn to fit in.
