Subject: [Videolib] Looking for PBS Documentary

Good Morning,

A faculty member watched a documentary on PBS a few weeks ago. She's
interested in us purchasing it, but can't recall the title. I'm hoping
someone might recognize it. Here's her description of the program.

An American Jewish male who is also fluent in Arabic went to Israel and
Palestine and interviewed 11-12 year old Jewish and Arabic boys about
the relationship of Israel and Palestine. Eventually, he has two Jewish
boys (twins) meet with some Palestinian boys in Palestine. At the end
of the documentary, he returns several years later and interviews the
boys when they are 15.

It's a great documentary because you see how early young people take on
the views of their parents - and what the implications are for the
future in that part of the world.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Jacki

I'm very familiar with your work (we own a copy in the Media Center)...it
definitely fits. Not sure whether my friend is just interested in
mainstream features, but if not, I'll definitely recommend your film.

gary

 Hi Gary,

At the risk of seeming self serving, my film LETTERS NOT ABOUT LOVE,
is an experimental documentary about words based on a correspondence
between two poets, Berkeley's own Prof - Lyn Hejinian - and Russian
poet Arkadii Dragomoshchenko. I gave them a list of words and asked
them to write to one another about their meaning in the context of
their lives and cultures. That correspondence took five years and is
the basis of a script narrated by actors Lili Taylor and Victor
Nord. No sync. A lot of montage. You can't get more word focused
than this, but it may not be what you had in mind. (it's New
Day... ) are we supposed to put links on this listserv? here's one,
 just in case: http://www.newday.com/films/LettersNotAboutLove.html
My apologies if that's a no no.

I don't think that version was ever released in the US anyway,
but it should be available from Amazon France.

I can't see why a US vender would carry the French version, but
I assume you can get it easily on Amazon France.

[Videolib] Construction Resumes at the New Museum of Broadcast Communications

2010-11-02 Thread Laura Fu
**Pardon cross-postings**
I'm surprised I haven't seen any postings on this yet. I am happy to share the
news that construction on the Museum of Broadcast Communications is finally
back underway! I have seen designs and layouts for planned exhibits and taken
tours of the space, and this place is going to be stellar. The location is
great and the collection really deserves the beautiful space they are building.
I highly recommend visiting once it is finally open. Their collection is
astonishing. They have Bozo's buckets!

Construction had been on hold for several years due to lack of funding. You may
have passed by the shell of a building at State and Kinzie. Please visit the
museum's website and read an article about the construction below.

And don't forget, the Radio Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is this Saturday.
Tickets are still available. Read more and learn about radio collection
digitization projects at their website (http://radiohof.org/).

Construction Resumes at the New Museum of Broadcast Communications
The new 62,000-square-foot national broadcast museum in the heart of downtown
Chicago at State and Kinzie Streets is back under construction.
The new MBC will include expanded areas for collection development, two exhibit
galleries and working radio and television studios. Over 240,000 visitors from
across the country are projected for the first year of operation.
The new MBC will also be a model of energy-efficiency, built to a Gold LEED
environmental standard-the first such Museum in Illinois. The green building
is designed and will be equipped to maximize energy efficiency, to minimize
waste and pollution, to reduce the consumption of resources, and to enhance
indoor environmental quality. The United States Green Building Council will
review and commission the building upon completion.
The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation provided a leadership grant of
$1.4-million in 2005 that allowed the museum to set a high environmental
standard.

It was a great experience for me indeed as a first timer. How wonderful to meet
people in person on both sides of the spectrum, librarians and the publishers,
whom I communicate with everyday by email, fax or mail. I was lucky to meet
with Christine Crowley and use her knowledge and expertise in the field. I even
found a fellow Wagnerite among the publishers' representatives. We talked a lot
about Wagner operas over breakfast. Finally, I have to mention how much I

I'm looking for examples of films that do interesting things with words,
either written or spoken, or (at the other extreme) try to do without
words. I've got lots of silent films with title cards I can use, but I
am looking for others. Some that come to mind include The Man with the
Movie Camera, My Dinner with Andre, and Koyaanisqatsi. Any further
suggestions? I'm interested in credits, subtitles, words on sets,
dialogue, voiceover, etc.

libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve
as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel
of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video
producers and distributors.
