RE: Office Professional Suite App

2013-08-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Eileen and Joseph,

OK, Eileen, first of all, you can ignore the message I sent you directly, I
had sent it before I saw which app you were talking about (you gave the
link).
I thought you referred to the Microsoft Office Mobile for Office 365 app
which was released a few weeks ago. This is a real Microsoft Office app with
Word, Excel and Powerpoint, but you have to be an Office 365 subscriber to
use it.
I have been a subscriber for some years, but I am on one of the older
subscriptions which don't allow me to subscribe for desktop apps of Office
2013 and the use of the app. You have to have one of the Office 365 Home
Premium subscriptions which is $99 a year or an Office 365 Small Business
Premium subscription. At some point between now and the end of the year all
of the older accounts like mine will be upgraded to the Office 365 Small
Business account, but until then I have to wait before I can try this app to
see if there is any accessibility.
I assume if somebody else had an Office 365 Home Premium subscription they
would have reported back on this since the app itself is free.
I am cautiously hopeful that maybe the app is accessible considering that
some of the other Microsoft apps like Skype, Skydrive and OneNote are
accessible, but of course I don't want to get anybody's hopes up, either and
of course not everybody wants to shell out the $100 subscription even though
I think this is a well thoughtout new model..

Sieghard

Office 2 (Superscript )plus - Was Re: Office Professional Suite App

2013-08-10 Thread Carol
Eileen, Joseph and all others interested

I was very interested in your message as I am very keen to edit XL sheets and
have so far found nothing that works properly to do what I need.

However, on checking in the UK site, I was unable to find the office suite you
mention below and, anyway, you didn't seem to be having great joy with the
spread sheet side of things.

I then took another look at what was available here and stumbled upon Office
(superscript)2 plus. (Sorry I don't know how to produce the raised to the
power of symbol shown.
The app is developed by Byte Squared and it's in the Business category.

I got the app (which is free, so long as you don't want to save documents but,
after playing with the spread sheet part, I paid up £1.99 in order to at least
save spread sheets, so no big deal money-wise.

I was quite surprised at what I found.

Unlike other apps tried, I was able to open a spread sheet saved in my Dropbox
and make changes to various cells and save again. I was also able to change my
sheet header, move to different pages and read the Help, which looks pretty
good. I am not yet convinced that we can do everything we would like, but it's
the most promising yet for me.

It does seem to have a few adds on one of the screens at the beginning, but I'm
not over-worried by this at the moment.

I have not yet looked at the word processing app, though I know you can save in
doc and docxf format.

I am struggling to find you the URL as I can't remember how to do so from my
phone and am currently working on the Mac, with which I'm only at stage 1-2 and
getting lost tryhing to find the app for you.

I do suggest you give it a go and please let me know what you think. I'll be
playing some more, for sure.

If you can tell me how to get the URL from my phone and send to you, I'll
gladly do this.
(I'd also like to know how to produce the superscript shown).

External Battery choice

2013-08-10 Thread Jesus Garcia
Morning list members after all the talk about external battery packs
last week. I wonder if anyone out there has an opinion regarding the
following. I am thinking of purchasing either a limeade 18000 or a peak
6000. the one advantage to the peak 6000 is that it has the ability to
speak status. Does anyone on the list have a peak 6000? Also, come the
end of the year I will be roling over my two year contract and will be
getting a new iPhone which I assume will have the lightning connector so
I don't want to be tied to a device which has only the 32 pin
connectors. I assume both of these packs have the ability to use
standard USB plugs with what ever connector at the other end. Thanks to
all for the help.

Hi.

I have bought the limeade 18000 and I got it the day before yesterday. I like
the battery very much.

You can use which cable you would like on the limeade 18000.

An advantage is that you can charge with a USB charger or a computer.
Best regards Annie.

RE: External Battery choice

2013-08-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Jesus,

I have the MyCharge Peak 6000 and while the fact that it can speak it nice,
I don't think it's that important. In fact, it is only the current, older
version with the integrated 30-Pin connector which can speak, MyCharge has
abandoned this feature on the new Peak 6000 with the Lightning connector and
if you are getting a new iPhone at the end of the year I don't see much
reason why you would buy the one with the 30-pin connector. I find the
integrated cables/connectors a more useful feature than the ability to speak
since all I have to stick in my pack is the Peak 6000. I can plug my iPhone
in and then lay it on top of the Peak 6000 to charge (the cable is super
short, but I think that's OK. I have talked on the phone while it was
connected if my battery was very low and just held both the phone and
charger up to my ear. It's not something you want to do for a long call
since both together make for a very thick package, but it's possible and if
it's a longer call I can just use the headset.
Oh, and yes, the Peak 6000 does have a regular USB plug-in so if I bought an
iPhone 5 now I could just use the provided Lightning cable.
I also like the fact that the Peak 6000 has a fold-away wall plug which once
again means you don't have to have an extra cable for charging it and it
turns itself on and off automatically as soon you plug a device in or unplug
it. I had an older Mophie battery which had a physical on/off switch in back
and if I unplugged my phone and forgot to turn it off, it would discharge
quicker.

Now that I also heard about the Limeade batteries, if I had to buy a battery
now or buy one for an iPhone 5, I would seriously consider the Limeade over
the Peak since the new Peak doesn't talk so it's only other advantage is the
integrated cables (Lightning, Micro USB and another one or 2 which aren't
important for an iPhone user).
What makes the Limeade very attractive is its capacity and competitive
price. I paid $99 for my Peak 6000 here in Canada and for that I could buy
the largest of the Limeade packs which has 3 times the capacity at 18,000
MAH and as far as I can tell it is not much larger.
I just measured and weight it with my talking kitchen scale and below is the
result followed by what Limeade says about their 18,000 MAH battery:
MyCharge Peak 6000: 5.3 inches (13.4 cm) long, 3.0 inches (7.6 cm) wide
and 1.0 inches (2.5 cm) thick. Weight is 9 ounces or 255 grams.
Limeade Blast L180X:4.8 inches (12.2 cm) long, 3.1 inches (7.9 cm) wide
and 0.9 inches (2.3 cm) thick. Weight is 13 ounces or 368.5 grams.
As you can see the dimensions are almost identical except the Limeade is
half an inch shorter, but despite that it weighs 5 ounces more, quite
significant although it makes sense because of the much larger capacity.

I just checked on Amazon and the MyCharge Peak 6000 seems to have dropped
somewhat in price, it is listed at $99 on sale for $79 with some offers
starting at $64. The Limeade L180X is still listed at $129 and on sale for
$99 with free shipping which once again I think is one of the best deals
given the capacity.
One last observation regarding how many times it will charge yor iPhone.
Limeade says on Kickstarter that it will charge an iPhone 4S or 5 12.5
times. Which strictly based on the numbers might make sense. The iPhone 5
has a 1445 MAH battery and if you divide 18,000 MAH by 1445 MAH you get
12.45. If this were true, the Peak 6,000 should charge an iPhone 4 times,
however, I find that if my Peak 6,000 is completely full and I charge my
iPhone to 100% when it gives me the first low battery warning at 20%, that
after 2 charges like that the Peak 6,000 says its battery is low. I have
actually not used it to the point where it just stops charging, but I'd say
it will do 2.5 to 3 times at most which means you probably get 8 to 10
charges out of the Limeade which either way is still pretty impressive and
will give you more than enough juice for what you need even if you take it
camping for a few days.

My conclusion is that the Limeade L180X would be my first choice were I to
buy a battery right now.

Regards,
Sieghard

a request to our development team and will try to add it in future updates.

Guys

I've been playing with this app as it went free recently (not sure if still
is) and I thought it might finally be a good app for editing, not just
viewing, Office docs on iOS devices. It all seemed fine except editing the
actual docs but a recent release seems to have fixed that too. Just
wondering if anyone else has played with it and knows if a more in-depth
investigation will highlight any areas that aren't accessible.

Thanks, Robin.

RE: voicedream and Ivona voices

2013-08-10 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Mary,

I haven't seen any responses to your question.
I don't have any new information, only that Winston had told me a couple
months ago that ivonna voices may be coming in the future.
So, no time line and no promises, just that he was looking into it.

I'm more interested in him making the notes and dictionary features
accessible. Since there hasn't been an update around that in a while, I'm
getting ready to drop him a note just to see if that is still in the works.

Later,
Richard

A while ago, I saw something on Applevis from one of their editorial team,
indicating that a future update will likely include the availability of
Ivona voices as an option. I really like those voices and wish they were
available on IOS, so of course, I was heartened to see that note. However, I
have not seen anything more about this, including on the recent interview on
the TrippleClick Home show, where there was an interview with the creator of
the VoiceDream app. So I'm just wondering if anybody on the list knows
anything about this possibility. I really do like the VoiceDream app. The
only thing that keeps me from using it more is the fact that I prefer Ivona,
and that is not available under IOS. It is great to have all these choices,
of course. VoiceDream has certainly made Read2Go unnecessary for me.

RE: Battery question

2013-08-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
On a 3GS I am not so surprised that maybe the battery doesn't work as good
as it used to, after all, the phone is 4 years old and everybody I know who
has a 3GS does not get very good battery life any more.

Shane, you don't say which phone you have, but there are so many factors
involved like how warm it was, what were you doing at the time etc. I would
not worry about it too much, Just charge it with the phone locked over night
so it's definitely at 100%, then maybe run it down all the way again until
the phone shuts off by itself and repeat the full charge. After that charge
it when you get the 20% or at least 10% warming unless you absolutely don't
have a chance to charge it and it runs lower, but for the most part it is
better to charge the new batteries more often and to not let them run all
the way down except maybe once every month or 2.

Regards,
Sieghard

Can't have more than 4 buttons to things, but some have put a folder in
there with a couple good things in the folder; I'm tempted to try that, but
haven't yet. Someone can comment more about that hopefully.
Probably have to set up the folder first on the last page, then move the
one item out, put it in said folder, then move the folder into the vacant
space.

Hi Folks,

The IPhone apps dock at the bottom of the screen, is it possible to have
more than 4 apps in there? I already have my 4 there, but it would be
really nice to be able to have one more, and as much as I have tried, the
fith one will not fit. Is there any way of doing this?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Kind regards.

Subject: RE: External Battery choice

Sieghard

Hi, and thank you for the help
Does anyone know how much data Solara uses when it is not connected to wifi?

Is there a way to determine which network Solara is connected to?

I am going to be traveling, and I don't want to go over my 1 gig a month data

Any and all help would be very much appreciated. I contacted the developers,

Hi Alan,

What exactly do you mean by |so I can also use it as a power supply?

The only battery I have seen so far which has the wall plug that folds away
is the MyCharge Peak 6000. I assume maybe you mean by your statement about
using it as a power supply that you want something that charges your phone
while it is also plugged in and charging. I have to try on my Peak 6000
whether it does that, I know for sure that this so-called through charging
is not supported by the Limeade series of batteries which have been
discussed here.

Hi andy,

I think it would be more accurate to say that the model of the Peak 6000

mentions the voice feature and it would be my guess that the 30-Pin model

RE: Where's the Assistive Touch icon?

2013-08-10 Thread E V
Hello Gerardo,

I use the Assistive Touch all the time. When you first activate it, it puts
it on the left hand side of the home screen above the half way point. To a
sighted person, it has the appearance of being a transparent icon, yet
visible. I will drag the Assistive Touch icon to a more convenient place
such as below the earpiece, or you could drag it to the area right above the
start button.

  Hi guys
I've activated from settings/General/Accessibility Assistive Touch, but
Ican't find the icon! Iflick left and right on the home screen but have no
idea where it is! What's the form of the icon, to have a sighted family
member look to see if it's on screen and then change to a better place, if
this can be done? Thanks for info.

Actually, Voice Dream comes with the Acapella voices, not Ivona.
You can buy more Acapella and some Neo Speech voices, but that is all right

RE: How Much Data Does Solara Use And Some Other questions Concerning Setting the iPhone

2013-08-10 Thread Tess
Actually I have 1G data a month.
So, I have been playing Solara every day on the bus going and coming from
work this week, and some at work during lunch breaks
I just got off the phone with ATT, and here I had thought I had gone over,
when I had only used 4% of data. My monthly billing cycle ends today and I
start a new cycle tomorrow.
So, this game doesn't draw didly if anything it is very little if I only
used 4% of my 1 gig this hole month.
I used the same this month as I have been the past couple of months. I just
hardly use any data. I cut back from the 2G plan to 1G because I just don't
use it.

RE: iDocs seems accessible and good for editing MS Office docs

2013-08-10 Thread Richard Turner
It is not accessible for editing or creating documents.

It is accessible for viewing documents to a point, but I was mostly
interested in the potential of editing or creating doc or docx files.

When you finally get into an editable region, the keyboard, whether onscreen
or a Bluetooth keyboard just makes annoying bonging sounds, even though you
are getting text into the document, you have no idea what you wrote as the
keys are not echoed back to you and then when you try and edit, you can't
really tell where you are in the document.

They must not be using a standard cursor.

 Hello List,
I was intrigued with this title Office Professional Suite,. so the only
thing I would be out is $0.99. It was a little triky to get started, but
once I found the button to open a word doc, I used MBraille to compose my
text and do a copy/paste. There is some editing such as adding bold,
underline, and italic, and justification of the doc. You can save it as a
docx, doc, or txt file. I believe folders can be created, but I will need to

confirm that. Files can be sync to iCloud, so the files are accessible to
other iDevices. I haven't tried Excel yet, but I am hoping that it too will

Re: Learning Safari

2013-08-10 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

The search field is in the top right corner of Safari on the first screen of a
web page. To make sure you're on the first screen, touch the status line at the
top of the screen and then double-tap. To find particular text on the current
web page, it's easier to use the Item Chooser. Triple-tap with 2 fingers to
open this. It lists all elements on the page, and there's a search edit box.
When you type in that box, only elements containing what you typed appear in
the list. Double-tap the one you want, and you'll go to that part of the page.
Or if you can't find what you want in the Item Chooser, do the scrub gesture
(moving two fingers back and forth) to exit it.

You might want to go to Settings/Accessibility/VoiceOver and choose the Rotor
option. Then only select the items you want to have available in the rotor. For
instance, if you don't care about moving by table, make sure Table isn't
selected. This means you have fewer items you need to move through in the rotor
to find the one you want.

I hope this is of some help.

Best,
Anna

anyone tell me if there's a shortcut to the search field. I can't seem to
find it. How about a gesture to take me to my home page? Is there a
comprehensive list of gestures for navigating the web? Everything I've found
so far has been keyboard based. I know to use the rotor, but the labels are
 foreign to my Windows ears.

 Thanks,

 Cliff

Battery meters have a margin for error. Perhaps the level was less than 6%.
Also, perhaps there has to be a certain amount of charge left to sustain
operation and prevent damage to the device.

What exactly do you mean by |”so I can also use it as a power supply”?

The only battery I have seen so far which has the wall plug that folds away is
the MyCharge Peak 6000. I assume maybe you mean by your statement about using
it as a power supply that you want something that charges your phone while it
is also plugged in and charging. I have to try on my Peak 6000 whether it does
that, I know for sure that this so-called “through charging” is not supported
by the Limeade series of batteries which have been discussed here.

I think it would be more accurate to say that the model of the Peak 6000
with the integrated Lightning cable doesn't talk. I was just on the MyCharge

mentions the voice feature and it would be my guess that the 30-Pin model

Re: Solara Game Play, Discussion, and Ideas

2013-08-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain

You get esper if you finish in the top 3 in a tournament. In my game I see:
#1 500 esper
#2 250 esper
#3 100 esper

In the quests called Seasoned Warriors, Battle Standards, you get esper.
Right now I[m getting 10 esper a quest.

You also get esper from the quest where you name your castle and a few
other quests as well.

I don't see any shops that provide esper, and I'm on level 32. If
someone could provide the name of a shop that provides esper, I'd like
to know about it since I'd be interested in such a shop.

There has been a bit of discussion about using espr. You don't have to buy
it to get it. There are some quests and buildings which will supply it to
you, albeigt in small amounts at a time. I've saved up and have used it to
build shops that require espr to build. I do not use it for food since, as
was already said food restocks over time. Espr can be accumulated over
time, tu.

Best Regards everyone.

How to find your posts on this group

2013-08-10 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Guys,
Is there a way to search on this group to find your posts, that is, to find
posts that you have placed on this forum? There are times when I want to find
threads which I have started several weeks after I wrote them. What is the best
way to do this?

Re: Can't send to this group without sight

2013-08-10 Thread Kevin Gibbs
For me, the problem is that I rarely visit this group because I don't want to
deal with the volume of messages this group generates. No offence. I just want
to get in and get out. See what I mean?

Now, I did solve one of my problems by figuring out how to search for threads
I've started so I can check in on them. But I still have the problem of not
being able to post from either the iPhone or my Mac from the web.
