Re: Beware of Sour Apples
Another way to do it, on my windows vista pc (unfortunately, I do not know how to do this on my iPhone, I whish I did) is to get into the properties of the given message by hitting alt enter on it in the tree view of messages. Go to the details tab, then to the top of the internet headers, and sift through all that incredible detail to find the email address from which it was sent originally. One soon discovers that it really didn't come from where it says it did, although some of those return email addresses look quite legitimate, almost. Arnold Schmidt - Original Message - From: M. Taylor mk...@ucla.edu To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, July 21, 2014 3:13 AM Subject: Beware of Sour Apples Hello Everyone, Just a heads-up that there is a fishing expedition to get into your iTunes account. Today, I received an email from what appeared to be Apple, sent directly to one of my valid Apple iTunes email addresses, informing me that I needed to update my iTunes password. The email went on to suggest that if I did not update my password within 24 hours, my iTunes account might be suspended due to suspicious activity. As a matter of policy, I immediately determined that the email was fraudulent but decided to scrutinize it thoroughly to determine just how sophisticated these fishing expeditions have become. Take it from me, this email looked almost completely legitimate right down to the Apple logo and copyright notices. I was very impressed. The only sure-fire way of proving that the email was a fake, from my limited perspective anyway, was to carefully copy the target URL into a text editor and review it. I was extremely careful not to accidentally click the imbedded re-direction link as I viewed the email on one of my Windows 7 computers. Even the bogus fishing link, imbedded in the email had both the words Apple and iTunes as part of its URL; very, very clever, to say the least. Just so you know, even if I had not been able to determine that the email was a fake, I would never have clicked any link imbedded within it. Instead, especially on a Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC, I would have first closed any email clients and/or browsers and rebooted the computer. On a Mac, I would probably not perform this step, but then again, maybe I would. Then, making sure to use an apple supported browser such as the latest version of Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari, I would have gone to: http://appleid.apple.com and checked the status of my account. RE: Face time info needed
Hi Don, No, she has to use her sisters email address and the sister has to make sure that Facetime is enabled on her iPad under settings. By default the email addressed she uses for her Apple Id is used for Facetime on an iPad or iPod Touch, but she can also add other email addresses in which case she can be contacted via any of these addresses. I believe you said your wife wants to initiate the Facetime call so she will have to create a contact for her sister. In this case all that would be needed is her name and email address. Then your wife can either use SIRI to initiate the Facetime call or she can go to the Contacts app, tap on her sisters name and then tap on :Facetime or Facetime Audio. Facetime Audio is only available if both are running iOS 7, in iOS 6 only Facetime video calls were supported, but I think you said they wanted to do a regular Facetime call which means including video. Re: Controling a DVR with Slingbox?
Hi Jared. I don't see why not as I can hear all of the DVR labels. I did, however, relabel many of the buttons. I have a Motorola V1200 receiver but do not use the DVR features as they are locked because I don't want to pay the $10.00 a month to have it activated. But I have noticed that it does read the buttons. The big stumbling block for me was that I could not figure out the power button for the receiver as the icon label made no sense. It is under the Remote Control bar. I almost took the Sling Box back but once I found out where it was and Labelled it I was then able to power up the receiver. Don't waste your time on an iPad, Kindle Fire or computer because the program lists do not read. But the iPhone does provide both the channel and descriptions. I was also able to set up my favourites and delete channels I did not want. To bring up the controls when a video is playing you double tap the top of the landscape screen. I am currently at the Seeing Eye and listen to CBC National news in real time every night without any difficulty. Had I had it when we were in Florida I would have been able to follow the Canadian Olympic hockey games although I still watched a few. When I want to stop a program playing I lock the screen. The two finger double-tap doesn't work. I have my slingPlayer set to start at the guide rather than connecting to a specific channel. Feel free to email me off list. I will be returning home next Thursday. regarding sing app, by www.smule.com
Hi. does anyone have any experience with the sing app? it's a karaoke app for the iPhone. There is a place on their website where tracks can be uploaded so that you can make them part of a performance. the website is www.smule.com a friend and I are having accessibility problems with both jaws using internet explorer and safari on the mac. We are attempting to upload a karaoke track on the www.smule.com website. All the parameters of the track are correct. , If anyone is using the sing app, do you have any tips for uploading a track or another way it can be put in to the sing app? besides holding the iPhone close to a speaker and trying to record the karaoke track and sing along? I know this must be possible, because people create their own songs all the time. thanks. Dave. --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Apple wins patent for a second smartwatch, the 'iTime'
Hello Everyone, I thought some of you might be interested in the following article. Oh, the link to the original article is located at the end of the text. Mark ARTICLE: Apple wins patent for a second smartwatch, the 'iTime' July 22, 2014 10:00 AM By Mark Sullivan The Patent Office has just granted Apple a patent for another smartwatch. In the patent application, Apple refers to the device as the iTime. The watch looks more like a standard wristwatch than the much-hyped iWatch. But in this watch, the whole center section can be removed, and can operate independent of the band. That central unit can store and play back media, and is controlled by a touchscreen on the front. The iTime responds to gestures, and does push notifications, according to the patent. Here's how Apple describes the device in the application: An electronic wristband to be worn on a wrist of a user, the electronic wristband comprising: a central portion having a receptacle area configured to receive and electrically connect to a mobile electronic device, the mobile electronic device including a display and being independently useable apart from the electronic wristband to perform a first set of functions. Apple says at least part of the wristband will contain a wireless communication transceiver, and when it's connected to the main device, the device can perform a second set of functions that includes sending user input to a second electronic device. The watch's band is divided into at least two sections, according to the patent, and each section contains a wireless antenna. Part of the watch's band also includes at least one of an accelerometer, an antenna, a GPS receiver, or a haptic device. That haptic device is situated against the skin on the underside of the band, and gives the user a buzz for notifications, as when messages or reminders come in. The accelerometer and gyroscope are included to detect the user's arm motions and gestures, the patent says. The application points out that the iTime will connect with an iPhone and display information about incoming calls. The user can then use the watch to accept or reject calls. Apple employees Albert Golko, Mathias Schmidt and Felix Alvarez are listed as the inventors on the patent. The patent was originally filed in July 2011. Re: Apple wins patent for a second smartwatch, the 'iTime'
I suspect that like the offerings from Google, this will be a supplement to a device like a smart phone, not a replacement for one.
It's interesting at best, but as the article points out, this is simply a patent which was filed 3 years ago and as far as I am concerned it means nothing for what eventually will come to market. Companies file all sorts of patents which never turn into any products. Will Apple come out with some sort of wearable? I think most definitely so, but what it will be in the end will not be described in any detail in a 3-year old patent filing.
