Hello Everyone,

It seems that when I view a group feed in the Facebook app, the individual
member posts are not necessarily sorted into chronological order, from
newest to oldest.

Is there a way to sort either my timeline feed or group feeds into
chronological order?

The steps I use to view a group feed is as follows:

1.
From within the Facebook app, select the More tab, located near the bottom
right corner of the display.

2.
Select Groups.

3.
Select a group, of which I am a member.

All replies appreciated.

Mark

Re: Another good Voice Dream Reader voice.

2016-07-09 Thread Gary Petraccaro
I downloaded one of the Grimm related novels from BookShare. One of the
characters is named Whu (believe that's the spelling). For whatever reason
no voice I tried regardless of group of voice could handle the name and the
reading of that writing style was unlistenable.
I tried to follow the punctuation but couldn't get the VDR to read the
characters and punctuation so I could follow it. I'm not making a comment
on the voices or the software. It's probably my lack of proficiency in
handling the software that got in the way of my figuring out what was
causing the problem with the reading in general.

I really haven't gotten into different voices, figuring that I can
adjust to most anything, and that different voices are very subjective
to each person listening and what they like or don't like. However,
with this discussion, I went back and browsed through all the
available voices; wow! I ended up getting James, and after my wife
heard him, she was very surprised that it was a TTS voice and not
someone speaking. She liked Sally the best. So now I've got some
choice when I want to read files or BookShare books. BTW, thanks to
the people that have pointed out that BookShare is very easy to browse
and download from, I never realized. I just might extend my BookShare
membership on that fact alone, grin.

Update on facebook texting

2016-07-09 Thread Kerri Stovall
Hi all,
Well, I wrote the other day, and for some reason, I've been having problems
reading the list messages I've been receiving, so I'm not sure if anyone
responded on the topic I sent a message about last week regarding my problem
with getting texts from fb even though I had it set up. Well, I saw that my
husband is still receiving them just fine, and we're on a mobile share plan, so
still not receiving them is strange. I compared my settings on fb and in both
of our phones, and they're all the same. So, if it's not the carrier, then it
couldn't be fb unless I have a hidden setting somewhere that I'm not aware of.
I'm trying to think of things I've changed or thisings that may have changed
when it stopped, but nothing is coming to mind. Any more ideas and suggestions
would be great!
Kerri

There's something called the FitBit Blaze, which gives you some

There are certain Netflix shows that are listed on Netflix's website as well as
the ACB that are supposed to have audio description. However, when I go to the
audio options, there is no audio description option for them. The example I am
thinking of is The Office. Has anyone else had this problem?

A year ago SW was offering some aspects of their WiFi at no charge. You were
supposed to be able to just log in. So I tried to use it. I arrived at a button

nothing I did ever let me go further. I'm sorry for the sketchy description;
it's been a while. I didn't report it. It was a busy time and I just didn't

RE: Interesting problem when charging phone

2016-07-09 Thread Pinky
Hi Terri,
Have you ever turned your phone off and then power it back up? If you have not
give that a try. I had a person having issues with her phone that she had for
around eight months or so and she had never turned it off. She did not even
know how to turn it off. I told her how to turn it off and power it back up and
all her issues were solved.

Subject: Interesting problem when charging phone

Hello,

I have an interesting problem, when charging my 5S. I was wondering if anyone
else might be experiencing this issue? If I try to use my phone when it is at
about 94, 96% charged, it really won't function. It will talk, but for instance
I will have trouble unlocking it. If I am able to get it unlocked, I might not
get the apps to open. If I leave it, say overnight, and let it charge Julie, to
100%, it is perfectly fine. No I haven't tried messing with it when it is still
plugged in at 100%. So I can't say how it would Eric then. But does anyone know
what is causing this?
Does anyone else seem to have this problem?
Is there anything I can possibly do about it, or it is it just some strange bug?

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Terri

Re: My verizon app

My sighted husband got me past the videos. Now everything is fine. I think
the problem is that I called and changed to the new verizon plan, and that is
why they had all of the videos. But, as someone else, said, you can't use all
of the new features if you don't change the plan. Apparently, you can save
your unused data, but, only the data from the month before. In other words,
you can't accumulate a bunch of data. I still don't understand it totally,
but, I am going to work on that today since I don't have to work.

composing tweets blocked

2016-07-09 Thread david gross
Using my Iphone 6 plus with voiceover, I have both the native twitter app, and
twitterific.
On both apps, when I try to compose a tweet, using less than 140 characters, vo
tells me the tweet button is unavailable.
There are various radio buttons for photo library, gif library, tweet location,
etc.
I cannot figure out why I am blocked from initiatig my own tweets, but I am
able to send replys to incoming tweets.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Re: Fit Bit [was "Re: Disable caller's name spoken when phone rings"]

2016-07-09 Thread Esther Levegnale
Hi, Keith!

As far as the heart rate goes, it'll give you a resting heart rate when you're
just standing, sitting, etc., and then when you do your exercise, it'll
increase, of course, and it might say "Fat-burn zone". Then when it goes up
higher it'll say "CardioZone". Then when you increase your heart rate even
further, it'll say "Peak zone", or something similar to that. I hope I
clarified this with you.

There's something called the FitBit Blaze, which gives you some

not going to be accessible, like the Apple Watch would be. And I've got my

 issue for me.

RE: Help with iTunes

2016-07-09 Thread Richard Turner
The latest is 12.4.3...
Most of it is not nearly as usable as it used to be.

I'm not sure if searching for the particular album would get it into focus so
you could do what you want to do. Worth a try.
Then, contact both Freedom Scientific and Apple Accessibility about getting
iTunes back to being more accessible.

Good luck,
Richard

When I play DiceWorld, I no longer get my push notifications. I've checked
the settings in the app as well as the settings in Notifications on the
phone itself. I'm using the latest IOS with an iPhone sixSPlus. I seem to
notice this with other apps like Newsify and Overcast.

How much of the Heart Rate info is accessible? Will it give you a good sense of
heart rate variability over an afternoon, or just spot heart rate readings? I'm

Hi, Ari!

I have the Charge HR and love it! Yes, you can find out what the battery
status is when you touch the name of your Fitbit device, then double-tap on it,
and VoiceOver will say the name of the device, the version number of the app
and the status of the battery such as full, medium or low. Another trick I do
is not to wear the Fitbit on my arm, but when I tie my shoelace into a bow, I
push the Fitbit through the tied portion of my shoelace. I seem to get better
results for steps with the device on my foot. Call it cheating? LOL! Well, I
just get more steps from wearing it on my foot then on my arm. When I exercise
on the bike, though, I place the Fitbit on my arm so as not to get it caught in
the pedals. Then, as I Pedal, I place my Fitbit hand on my thigh so that it
registers. Hope this helps and good luck! You'll love this Fitbit.

All the best,
Esther Levegnale

Netflix Shows

2016-07-09 Thread Kelby Carlson
There are certain Netflix shows that are listed on Netflix's website as well as
the ACB that are supposed to have audio description. However, when I go to the
audio options, there is no audio description option for them. The example I am
thinking of is The Office. Has anyone else had this problem?

Once you have the file open in the Dropbox app you should be able to turn the

text to, turn the rotor to edit again and flick up or down until you find

Subject: Interesting problem when charging phone

Hello,

I have an interesting problem, when charging my 5S. I was wondering if
anyone else might be experiencing this issue? If I try to use my phone when
it is at about 94, 96% charged, it really won't function. It will talk, but
for instance I will have trouble unlocking it. If I am able to get it
unlocked, I might not get the apps to open. If I leave it, say overnight,
and let it charge Julie, to 100%, it is perfectly fine. No I haven't tried
messing with it when it is still plugged in at 100%. So I can't say how it
would Eric then. But does anyone know what is causing this?

Does anyone else seem to have this problem?
Is there anything I can possibly do about it, or it is it just some strange
bug?

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Terri

say, be specular, two items. What does that mean?
I have received very good results from the vol;unteers. They are very
helpful, and most courteous. The problems that I have had have only been of
my making because I don't always take a good picture.

your iOS device, then, single-finger, double-tap the status line. This will
immediately move app focus to the first item in the feed as well as
refreshing the feed, itself.

Is there a way to refresh content or to move to the top of the list without
having to do the three finger flick over and over again?

Yes, it sounds like you do yours the same way I do, but I’ve never gotten it to
work with any other app except KNFB. I haven’t tried this one yet, but I may

My biggest problem with shooting any kind of picture is that when I have the
phone held in a hand, or even both, I have hand tremors. What I do to
compensate for this is braced the phone against my chin, which helps immensely.
I also use Seighard's tip placing the corner where the phone's camera is as
close to the exact middle of the page as possible, then lift The phone up as
evenly as I can. Then I use the field of you report to check how well I've
done, and then shoot the picture. This is where bracing the phone against my
chin really helps. Also, I use the split-tap method to activate the buttons, as
double-tapping them tends to make the phone move.

  Hi Krister,

I must agree with Sandy in that you have gotten plenty of help. I have been
reading this thread and several people have explained exactly what they do to
make it work. I think Ron explained how he is holding the phone with both
elbows on the side of the page they want to scan which gives you pretty much
the correct distance etc. I also remember replying to you in the past
explaining that I usually put the phone down on the page with the touchscreen
facing up so that the corner of the phone where the back camera is located is
approx. in the middle of the page. At first it may be helpful to fold the page
lightly in half in both directions since where those two folds meet is exactly
the centre of the page. If you do this a few times and check the distance of
the left and bottom edge of the page to the left and bottom edge of the phone
you quickly get an idea on how the phone should be positioned. Once I have it
more or less lined up with the page I grip the edges with my right hand and
lift the phone straight up and away from the page to a height of about 10 or 12
inches. I think you are in Sweden, so that would be 25 to 30 cm or about the
length of an 8.5x11 or A4 size page. It’s almost better to lift it a few inches
higher than not high enough. At that point you can do your field of view report
or correct any tilt if the phone is vibrating and take your picture. It was
also pointed out several times that practicing when you have a sighted person
around who can correct you is very helpful.

To me it sounds like you haven’t been able to get good results and even
though people have replied and explained what they do (Ron, Sandy, myself and
others) you are at this point sarcastic and cynical about it.

  Hi Simon,
In the United States, where I am, if I buy a print book, I can send proof
of purchase to the publisher and get an accessible version.
I don't know anything about the laws in the UK.
But, yes, 60 pounds a year is a bit crazy when a sighted person can buy
the hymnal with music for less than $30 and the words only copy for less than
$20.
  I certainly understand the frustration.

Christian Book Distributers sells a words only edition. What about
contacting the publisher to see if you could get a text version, then you could
put it into Voice Dream Reader, and read it that way, or another app.

Re: Fit Bit [was "Re: Disable caller's name spoken when phone rings"]

2016-07-09 Thread Esther Levegnale

All the best,
Esther Levegnale

less for this one particular feature and at that price. I ended up buying
a refurbished Fitbit Flex for something like $40.00.
It works fine and I can get up whenever I want without having to bother my
wife. She in turn has one of those wake-up light alarms which is fine
for her since she's sighted and this way, I'm not disturbed by her alarm.

 Hi Ari,

And there are a number of relatively inexpensive Bluetooth wristbands out
there which will wake you up with vibration and I don't think that sort of
vibration will be as noticeable as when a phone vibrates especially if it
is lying on a hard surface such as a wooden night table.

Interesting problem when charging phone

2016-07-09 Thread Terri Stimmel

Thank you!

Terri

2016-07-09 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello,

Thank you for your suggestions. I did not even think about the Apple news app,
and it is right here on my phone. Silly me!

I did and one of my candles local candles. I haven't tested out too much. But
it might work all right. Thank you for that suggestion as well, because I would
not have thought about that. I think they only run DMC will live feed, when the
news is on. But they show written article at other times. So that would work
for me. Plus, they will give me updates on breaking news in the area. I like
that.
Thank you again,

Re: Reliable, and accessible, news applications

Hello there,

The NPR news app for a while. For a couple of years, actually. It worked fine,
but then it started acting weird, and wouldn't play stuff. So I deleted it.

Maybe if I install it, it will work better now.
Thank you for the suggestion. I really appreciate it.

Re: accessible hymnal app?

Might another option be to put the words into a text file, one file for each
song?

I did this with songs from church and put them into braille for myself, now all
I have to do is take the relevant ones with me each week..

Christian Book Distributers sells a words only edition. What about
contacting the publisher to see if you could get a text version, then you
could put it into Voice Dream Reader, and read it that way, or another app.

Hello,
If and when you unlock, though, Voice over will read them, as they show up,
but they wouldn't be read until you unlock the screen. It saved me from

Re: Stop Voiceover From Reading Texts

2016-07-09 Thread Gordon
You're going to want to go into the notifications area in settings and
go to the messaging app. Turn off where it says show on lock screen.
This will keep it from turning the screen on and reading the message. If
it's interrupting you while you're doing something with the phone, turn
off the show badges as well.

That $50 a year is the best investment for me! And being able to take all those
books with me on the device I use the most, and be able to read them using my
favorite, voices is even better!

Awesome! This device is going on my wishlist! One important question I have is
about how to check the battery status. Can you do this through the app? Also,
is there an accessible user manual on-line somewhere?

Thanks,

Subject: Reliable, and accessible, news applications

Hello to all of you,

I am sure this have been discussed before.
However, I am looking for a news source, that is reliable, and pretty much
fully accessible. Does anything like this exist? I tried using CNN, but I
was not very impressed with it.

I would like an application that would let me play audio, as well as let me
read articles.

Is this possible? If anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Terri
