Chris,
VoiceDream writer costs a lot more than I'd be willing to pay.
Wayne, Plain text isn't available in the canadian app store.
Thank you both for the suggestions,
I appreciate them.

Once your contract expires, unlock your phone and renegotiate your
plan with Verizon. You should pay less because you are only
purchasing wireless service and no hardware. You can port your number
to a new carrier if you wish so no worries about people reaching you
if you change providers.

Returning an audible book using your i-device

2016-09-10 Thread Mary Otten
For the past several months, it has been possible to return an audible book you
purchase if you did not like it. I have done this on occasion using my
computer. But apparently, you can't do it from an iPhone. Maybe I'm missing
something. Has anybody had experience successfully returning a book using your
iPhone or iPad?

Re: Wondering if anyone else has Upgraded/preordered the iPhone 7 through AT

2016-09-10 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
and this for me is the beauty of lists such as this. Though they sometimes
stray and get mired down in ancillary stuff from time to time they are also
places where the milk of human kindness has not yet run dry and through the
kindness of others we can all learn something new. Peter and Conrad I bow
to your greatness you're legends. Thank you just as Conrad described it
actually did just work for me. I could indeed reproduce it and hopefully
will be able to use it again in future. It is not the most straightforward
on screen element I've ever seen but it can indeed be used.
Again I sincerely and warmly thank you and appreciate your willingness to
teach this wee girl something new today.

I just tried it with the iOS app it worked well you have to double tap and
hold on the collar for a few seconds then it will come up with the option to
select the color that you want then you tap to select the link toward the
bottom of the screen

to gage the experiences of others should there be any.
It was my experience for instance that in the iOS app the process of
moving
through the steps went great until you reached the point at which you
were
to select your color and storage capacity. Those elements appeared as a
link
for instance for color but when one tried to double tap on it or any
other
gesture you could imagine nothing happened. At this juncture you were
good

and stuck with no way forward.
On the website interestingly the elements for color selection and storage
capacity appeared as check boxes in Internet Explorer which worked fine
but
list boxes in FireFox which couldn’t be executed with any of the 3
windows
screen readers I had at my disposal. And in Internet Explorer the
continue

links that advanced you through each step and its accompanying page were
quite tricky to activate and only did so with one screen reader.
If anyone had experiences that were either similar or differed from that
which I had I’d love to hear about it so as to most affectively
communicate

with AT in an effort to make this upgrade area better for us all going
forward. By and large I feel AT has done a decent job concerning
accessibility both in their iOS app and on site. Here’s hoping this
glitchy

area can be ironed out too.

The lock is associated with the phone and not the sim card. This is why
you can't put a sim card from another carrier into your locked phone and
use it.

Is the lock of a locked phone on the phone hardware or part of the Sim? Just

Once unlocked, whether it's the phone hardware or the Sim, can I transfer the
Sim to a new phone and it will work?

I'm hoping to avoid being manipulated by Verizon into a 2-year Service
contract, but would like to keep Verizon service for a while at least on a
monthly basis before possibly switching to another provider. That's why I'm
curious whether Verizon would need to get involved with activation of a new
phone using the old sim from the unlocked phone.

Thanks, Keith

Keith,

You likely did not pay full price for your phone when you entered into your
contract with Verizon. Once you pay for your obligation, your iPhone does not
know that you are paid in full with your phone company. Verizon needs to
authorize the unlocking of your phone.
Often this can be done online. Folks at a Verizon store can help too.
If Verizon employees ignore your request to unlock your off contract phone,
then you can take steps to insist Verizon allow you full access to your fully
paid property. Post if Verizon is giving you hassles when you seek phone
freedom.

Verizon need to get involved somehow with the new phone activation,
and would that be problematic?

Also, I seem to recall that phones of that generation were already unlocked.
Is that the case, or will I need to get Verizon to unlock the iPhone 6?

You can just wait a few weeks until they release an unlocked version.
I think last year, unlocked phones started popping up around the
beginning of November. This is what I plan on doing as I have nearly
$200.00 in redeemable BestBuy points that I‘m going to use to offset the
phone’s cost.
If you want to go for last year’s model, the Apple store is selling
the 6S, 6S Plus and SE unlocked. I think the SE 64GB dropped to
$450.00 for example.

OK, let's say you go through the Apple store online and buy an
unlocked phone. But apparently, you have to declare a carrier. So if
you declare T-Mobile or AT, then pay for your phone, will you be
getting one with one of those modems that won't work on the CDMA? I
guess the safe thing would be to declare Verizon or Sprint.

This is an iPhone 7 feature, not an ios 10 feature.
So no, it will not be available to the 6s or 6s plus.

What are the additional functions of the Home button on the new iPhone 7's?

2016-09-10 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

What are the additional functions of the Home button on the new iPhone 7's? Is
this only on the iPhone 7's, and not part of iOS 10?

Thanks in advance, Keith

RE: Surprise!! iPhone 7 Models From AT and T-Mobile Do Not Support CDMA Networks

2016-09-10 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Thanks, Kellie.

Is the lock of a locked phone on the phone hardware or part of the Sim? Just
curious.

Post if Verizon is giving you hassles when you seek phone
freedom.

Re: Editing files in dropbox

2016-09-10 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello,
I know you were looking for a free app, but I can say that even though the app
is not free, Voice Dream Writer will do what you want.
You can open files in Writer directly from Dropbox, then you can edit or add to
the file, and once you are done, you can export the file back to dropbox saving
over the original file.
I just tried it myself, and it worked just fine.

Voice Dream Writer is a very good app, still has support from the developer,
and has a lot of great features. Here is the app store link:

Voice Dream Writer by Voice Dream LLC

Hope this helps!

get an iPhone 7, I think I'm allowed to
criticize a decision Apple made. I for one don't
think Apple is perfect, and I'm not just going
to assume that they'll never make a mistake and
they always know what's best for me. This isn't
a knock on Apple, but just those who think we
should just be thankful for whatever Apple
decides we as consumers and blind consumers should be happy with.

You figured that something like this was
eventually going to come out by a mainstream
company or via a kickstarter campaign.

Off putting though that you have to shell out an extra $40.00 for
something that’s not even really a mobile
solution. Curious to see what kind of battery
pack designs these same companies are going to
come up with for those of us who may want or
need that extra backup. There goes another
$40.00 or $80.00 or whatever on top of
everything else. That and what type of
solution they’re going to come up with for
all the credit card swipers that are so
ubiquitous Appel was actually getting credit
yesterday for only selling the replacement
dongles for $9.00, but I guess this shows
they’re going to get their pound of flesh one way or another.

Those dongles are probably viewed as a lost leader anyway.

RE: new iPhone from scratch

2016-09-10 Thread Louise Johnson
Hi reggie, I just did this about two months ago.

If you have things backed up in the cloudwhen you set up the new phone it will
download all to the new phone.

Yes the biggest thing is settings. Charge the old phone just before you start
all of this.

I don’t know how much you are allowed to back up others can help you with this.
I just lost a few passwords and that wasn’t hard to reset.

Questions from all what should we be backing up so if we need to reset the
phone. Does the phone allow apps to back up as at the time I only had two and
they did come back. Louise and princess Kiara

I am with Sprint, but the website is as unfriendly and confusing as the
gentleman said att's. I will be ordering my 7 tonight with the help of a
friend, however. I do have a friend who contacted ATT and received excellent
help. I called Sprint and essentially was
told to go to the website. That turns out fine because on line I will get a 256
gig and they will waive 30 dollar activation fee so worth hassle.

Anyway, I have always gone to a store and had the phone set up there. What
should my first step be besides getting VO on? I am baffled by iTunes so need
to use iCloud. If I have to download all my apps I guess I will, but I just do
not know how to begin the setup. Deeply appreciated if a much more techie
person than me could step by step get me started!!!

2016-09-10 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has heard or found information on whether the
new Apple Wireless Airbuds are A2DP capable?

I've tried searching in Google but haven't found anything.

Thanks in advance, Keith

Re: Inaudible clicks on lockscreen

2016-09-10 Thread Regina Alvarado

I went into both settings control center and directly into control center but
saw nothing but volume which was the volume I currently put my volume button
to. I have my sounds alerts and ringtone set to 100 percent and button changes
off. If I turned button changes on would this make a difference in being able
to control clicks and phone sounds? I turned it off because I definitely want
my phone to ring at 100 percent but sometimes have my volume with VO lower than
100 percent. Thanks for any help.

In addition, as has been said before elsewhere, they may be removing
the headphone jack this year so they can really wow everyone with
something special next year. As one podcaster pointed out this week,
this year the main topic of conversation is the headphone jack
disappearing. While next year, everyone or most people will have moved
on from that and will be talking about whatever special item they're
working on for the 10 year iPhone. I don't like it any better than
other people, but at least they're helping to ease the transition by
including an adaptor in the box this year. They could just as easily
charge $20 or $30 for that $9 adaptor, and make us buy it as an
accessory.

IMHO, it'll be hard to tell for Apple to tell if the iPhone 7 is being
well received just because they removed the headphone jack. I'm not sure
what removing the headphone jack actually buys anyone right now. Any
improved audio fidelity you get with the Lightning connected headphones,
you would still see even if the headphone jack was still there. Sure,
you may see thinner and more waterproof phones in the future, but for
now, I don't think anyone is seeing the advantages of Apple ditching the
headphone jack except for Apple and peripheral makers.

I think if the iPhone 7 is received well, it'll be for features that
have been added and not those that have been removed.

Cheryl: you might try AccessNote from AFB. That app is free and you

new iPhone from scratch

2016-09-10 Thread Regina Alvarado

Has anyone figured out how to start the live streams for NFL games in the
NFL mobile app? I have a subscription to their field pass option to get
audio from the games but during the preseason was never able to figure out
how to use the app well enough to get audio to work.

letters and you can hear them and that means you have pushed the right key or

Hi, Afik! You are right that VoiceOver doesn't read out our Apple ID password
but I was asking about the pass code we enter on the lock screen when we turn
our iPhone on. VoiceOver booms out the digits but the clicks are inaudible.

2016-09-10 Thread Wayne Merritt
Very interesting article. I am wondering if the Bedtime part of the
Clock app can be customized. I have set songs to wake me up on
different days. I appreciate the Bedtime feature, but I hope it can
workw with my songs, or that I can turn it off and go back to the old
Alarm screen. Finding your car in a parking lot sounds really cool
too. Though I don't drive, which is good (hahaha), my wife drives, and
being able to find our car would really come in handy.

Re: Inaudible clicks on lockscreen

2016-09-10 Thread Chris Chaffin

Have you checked out the volume in the control center?

>From what I can tell, there is 3 different volume controls.
The volume control located in settings / sounds is your ringer volume.
The volume control in the control is your system sounds.
And, the volume control on the rotor is your voice over volume.

Now all 3 of these volume settings are independent of each other, but can be
adjusted all at the same time with the volume buttons on the side of your
device. But please know that by using the volume buttons on the side, one of
the volumes can get turned way down or even turned down to 0 while the others
are still working just fine.
So the first thing I would do is to check the volume in your control center to
see if that got turned down.

Re: Inaudible clicks on lockscreen

2016-09-10 Thread Harry Bell
Hi, Afik! You are right that VoiceOver doesn't read out our Apple ID password
but I was asking about the pass code we enter on the lock screen when we turn
our iPhone on. VoiceOver booms out the digits but the clicks are inaudible.

RE: Inaudible clicks on lockscreen

2016-09-10 Thread Afik Sofir
Hi harry,

For me the situation is the same.
I think VO doesn’t speak when entering the pass code, because of security
pherpesses.

I hope I'm helping you.

I am relying more and more on VoiceOver these days and I really notice that
when entering my pass code on the lock screen of my iPhone 5s ios 9.5, the
click sounds are virtually inaudible so I cannot work out if my keystrokes have
registered properly or not. I have checked the volume level in settings but
nothing improves. How do others on the list manage? Thanks. Harry
