If you have access to another iDevice, you can sign in to find my iPhone with
your ID and find it that way if it has power.
I hope you find it.

Hello, I have both Fleksy downloaded installed and using them. I like Fleksy

Re: Contact details

2016-12-27 Thread Kelly Pierce
You can do both. A binary choice is a false one. the purpose of the
relationship status is to help in searching contacts. do Kate and
David have parents? It would be better to delineate the relationship
between you and the parents of David and Kate and list David and Kate
as the son and daughter of the parents. Apple then can reference them
as siblings and their children as grandchildren of the parents. the
grandchildren are also cousins to each other. remember, the
relationship feature is intended to be hierarchical so the oldest
living member of the family should be listed and the relationships go
down the family tree from there.

Sorry to hear about your potential loss. If you have the find my
iPhone utility downloaded from the app store, turned on, signed in and
active in your app switcher, you can locate your device through iCloud
at:

https://www.icloud.com/#find

It shows a map and not a street address so sighted help will be
needed. I hope this nightmare gets resolved successfully.

How do I get back to my kindle bookshelf?

2016-12-27 Thread Olivia Norman
I forgot to mention that the menu appears but there's no option there to get
back to my bookshelf. I see viewing options, the location I am at in the book,
notebook, but no home or library buttons to be found.
This worked prior to the last update though I needed sighted help finding the
button at first because flicking through the menu didn't take me to it.
I memorized where to find the button but since the last update the button
appears to have moved or disappeared. Neither flicking or exploring the screen
by dragging a finger across the screen works.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Michael,
I have the old Flecksy V O app, but, I know it is not in the app store any

Re: Audible two for one sale cart on the iPhone

2016-12-27 Thread Mary Otten
I know it's easy to do on the PC. My problem is that all of the emails these
days, and HTML. And my PC is so old, and his email client is sold, that that
just doesn't work for me anymore. I have that PC because it has braille
software on it that I need to emboss stuff every week. It will eventually die.
And I will have to do something about it. In the meantime, the PC is off-limits
for an a lot of things.

AirPods with Apple Watch and iPhone 6 running voiceover.

2016-12-27 Thread Chuck Dean
Hello,

Is anyone having any success using the AirPods with an Apple Watch running
voiceover, and an iPhone 6 running VoiceOver?

I have tried to use the Airpods, but the lag between when the iPods connect
each device is incredibly long. Much longer than any other Bluetooth device
I have.

Also the voiceover speech on the Apple Watch is very sporadic through the
Airpods.

Is this something that I am doing wrong?
Chuck

RE: Editing account on Uber App on iPhone?

2016-12-27 Thread Alan Lemly
Jim,

I'm not using nearly the latest version of Uber but in version 2.152.9 which
I'm using, here are the steps to change your account email:

1. Open the Uber app.

2. Double tap the account menu button in the upper left of the home screen.

3. Swipe through the menu items which open until reaching settings and double
tap.

4. The screen that opens for me has my picture at the top followed by my name
followed by an edit account button which you should double tap.

5. A screen opens where you must enter your Uber account password in a secure
text field.

6. The screen which opens lets you change your photo, your first and last
names, your email, and your mobile phone number.

Good luck.

Alan

Thanks Andy. The website has not allowed me to edit the particular setting I
want from there. Seems I have to do it from the app, which is why I asked the
original question. I wish the website would just let me do what I need.

Subject: Editing account on Uber App on iPhone?

Good morning,

As those of us who use Uber know, the app has been updated and is fairly
accessible. However, does anyone know how to edit some account settings?

I’m specifically trying to edit or change my email address but can’t seem to
find where to do it.

I went to settings, and tapped on my name. There, I saw “Edit Account
Settings.” So far so good.

Then, there’s a blank or unlabeled button and to the right of that is my phone
number.

I tapped on the unlabeled button, and nothing happened. I tapped on my phone
number, and it wanted to verify my password. I typed it in. It then showed me
my phone number and said that a verification code would be sent to the phone.
The only choices I got though were “back” or “Update Phone.” I tapped on
“Update Phone” and nothing happened after that.

So, what am I doing wrong, or what do I need to do?

I need to update my email address on that account, and it looks like I can only
do it from the app and not on the actual web site.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jim

RE: Question about sharing apps

2016-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Denise,

Go to Settings > iCloud > Family and then tap on the "add" button.
It's been quite a while since I set up family sharing with my wife, but I think
you probably have to enter your husband's Apple Id, he'll get an email and has
to accept it or something along these lines.
Also, keep in mind that once you set up family sharing then whichever credit
card is on file with iTunes for your account will also become the payment
method for your husband. If he initiates family sharing then his payment method
becomes yours. The only way for somebody to pay for their apps when part of
family sharing is to buy an iTunes gift card and to then redeem the balance
with the Apple Id to be used. For example, if you set him up as a family member
he can buy an iTunes gift card and put that balance on his account, then any
apps he buys will first come off that balance.
If you have Apple Music you could also get the family membership which is only
$5 more and each person still gets their own recommendations, preferences and
so on.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Hi Helga,

If you share an app the way you describe it simply means the person you are
sending the app to will receive a link to that app in the app store. If the app
is a paid app and if that person is not part of your Family Plan they will have
to buy the app, you cannot share a paid app with somebody who is not on your
family plan. The "Share" button simply facilitates sending somebody the link
for an app so they can find it easier.

Each app says at the very bottom of its description (below the price and all
that) whether it allows family sharing or not, it will say "Family Sharing:
Yes" or "Family Sharing: No". Most apps do allow for family sharing.

Neato app problems

2016-12-27 Thread Chip Orange
Hi all,

I remember several of you mentioned that the Neato app wasn't very
accessible, and that when contacted, Neato support wasn't really promising
to look into it or to get it done any time soon.

Below is an article from Kim Komando mentioning 6 unknown Amazon Alexa
features you may not know about, and one of them was the ability to start
the Neato vac cleaning your house, when you had the app installed on your
phone. I'd suggest that those interested in this, add a comment to the
article mentioning that the Neato app isn't accessible to the visually
impaired, and when contacted the company didn't seem all that interested in
solving this problem. I believe it's this type of publicity which causes
change to happen.

I did add such a comment myself.

Hth,

Chip

Re: Getting back to my kindle bookshelf?

2016-12-27 Thread Michael Feir
Hello. From within a book, first do a double-tap which brings up the menu
button plus other options. You then need to get to the menu button on the
top left and double-tap it. This brings up the larger menu which includes
the library option. Double-tap on that to get out of your book and into the
library. That major menu has other things too which aren't present in the
minor menu reached by double-tapping the first time from within the book.
For one thing, instead of taking the library option, flick right and you
can go through a table of contents provided a book has one. Hope this helps
you out.

It says the app has family sharing, but how do I initiate that to get it on to

Sieghard

Hi Dennis. How are you? What do you man by sharing? Do you want to share yoru

then go to purchase, and find the pap you want, double tap onit, and on the top
corner yu will share button, adn it will give you options, like emil, message,
or copy and more. This way, yu just sen dhim to him to his iphone, adn he just
can open the lik by double tapping and he Will be taken to the papp store
where he is able to download teh app without using the family sharing since it
is not necessary. Hope this helps. I look forward in hearing form you soon.

Re: Audible two for one sale cart on the iPhone

2016-12-27 Thread Yolanda Thompson
I finally achieved a purchase with the two for one sale on the iPhone.
1. Sign in. It makes all the difference to sign in first.
2. If you have left your browser, you will need to choose the books
once more. So add them again.
3. After they are added, touch the address bar, and flick left. You
will hear a "proceed to checkout button"
4. After activating that button, touch the address bar once more and
flick left to the "confirm purchase" button.
If you want to see the details of your order, you will need to touch
the address bar once more and flick left.
I hope this helps. It was a nuisance to figure out.

RE: iGrill Questions

Hi,

Has anyone had any issues pairing their phone with the iGrill Mini?

We have had the Mini for a couple of years now, and when it used to work with
the iDevices app, I was able to pair it with my phone. Now that you need to
use it with the Weber app, it is not seeing the Mini. My husband is able to
pair it with his android phone.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Ari,
I think Blind Bargains talked about the iGrill Mini in one of their podcasts,
but I don’t think they did one just on it.
My wife is sighted, so when I got mine, I had help with it.
Like many devices with the battery installed, you have to first remove the
strip of material preventing contact so the battery doesn’t drain and that is
pretty easy.

The base provides two functions. First it is a handy way to keep the cord from
getting all tangled when not in use. The cord wraps around the base.
The base also works as a mount for the iGrill Mini. It has some adhesive tape
on the bottom that if you want to mount it somewhere where a sighted person can
easily see it or just to have a place to keep it out of the way and not in a
drawer, you can stick it on a clean, smooth surface.
I just put the iGrill Mini on the base and keep it in a drawer.
I do not recommend following their temperature guidelines. I think they are a
bit low for meat. For example, I like my steak medium. According to the
iGrill Mini, that would be 155 degrees Fahrenheit. That is too rare for me.
165 is much more like medium to me. It still is plenty pink in the middle.
I used the iGrill Mini for cooking a steak on the George Foreman grill.
I set it to 160 to test it and it worked perfectly. I had my wife double check
the doneness, and then let it get to 165 before taking it off.

Then, she who likes her steak medium well to well done, put the probe in her
steak and let it get to 180.

I have not yet used it in the oven, but that will be next.

The app could be labeled better, and once I get it all sorted out I may do a
podcast of sorts, or at least detailed written instructions.

Richard

Wow, Richard! Thanks for a link to the PDF, as well as pasting those
quick-start directions in to your email! I've seriously been wanting an iGrill,
and when I do, I'm sure I'll find your email useful. In fact, I'm going to use
the link you posted to download that manual in to the Manuals folder in Voice
Dream Reader, so I can have it handy when the time comes to really get serious
about learning exactly how the iGrill works. In the meantime, the manual will
probably help me understand how it works a bit better. For example, I'm a bit
confused as to the function of the base part mentioned in the quick-start
directions.

you know of any blindness-specific podcasts that do an unboxing/demonstration
of the iGrill Mini?

Thanks,
Ari

RE: Camera flash sounds on IPhone 7

2016-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
First of all, if you turn it off in the camera app it stays off.
Live photo takes a very brief video, but it is still a jpg file yet it moves
just a bit and can include a second or so of sound. If you took a live photo
and said just at the right time what the picture is in 2 or 3 words it would
say this when you "Play" the photo.

RE: Question about sharing apps

2016-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Sieghard

RE: getting started with knfb reader

2016-12-27 Thread Chip Orange
Donald,

OK, never-mind my earlier question.

Also, in case you aren't aware, you can press the down volume arrow key to take
the picture (which works best for me I think, since my fingers holding the
phone are close to there).

Hth,

Chip

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for all the suggestions. What I discovered was that I
was covering the lense with my finger when trying to take a picture.
I don't remember which setting I changed that allowed me to discover
that I was covering the lense but knfb reader said that the lense was
covered. I also printed a standard .txt file from my computer to use
as a test page.

I have successfully scanned and read it several times. I also
discovered that the split tap gesture is most successful for me to
take the picture.

RE: Editing account on Uber App on iPhone?

I can’t. It doesn’t seem to let me do some of those things from the web.

Login to Uber on the web and update your info there.

Jim

Oh I can tell you is that this is not an accessibility problem. I have worked
for the reader to try to get this to work at all, and I cannot get over to send

RE: getting started with knfb reader

2016-12-27 Thread Richard Turner
You can also use the up volume button on the side to take the picture if that
helps at all.

Glad you got it sorted out.

Enjoy,

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for all the suggestions. What I discovered was that I
was covering the lense with my finger when trying to take a picture.
I don't remember which setting I changed that allowed me to discover
that I was covering the lense but knfb reader said that the lense was
covered. I also printed a standard .txt file from my computer to use
as a test page.

I have successfully scanned and read it several times. I also
discovered that the split tap gesture is most successful for me to
take the picture.

Editing account on Uber App on iPhone?

2016-12-27 Thread Jim Portillo
Good morning,

As those of us who use Uber know, the app has been updated and is fairly
accessible. However, does anyone know how to edit some account settings?

I'm specifically trying to edit or change my email address but can't seem to
find where to do it.

I went to settings, and tapped on my name. There, I saw "Edit Account
Settings." So far so good.

Then, there's a blank or unlabeled button and to the right of that is my
phone number.

I tapped on the unlabeled button, and nothing happened. I tapped on my
phone number, and it wanted to verify my password. I typed it in. It then
showed me my phone number and said that a verification code would be sent to
the phone. The only choices I got though were "back" or "Update Phone." I
tapped on "Update Phone" and nothing happened after that.

So, what am I doing wrong, or what do I need to do?

I need to update my email address on that account, and it looks like I can
only do it from the app and not on the actual web site.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jim

RE: iGrill Questions

2016-12-27 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Ari,
I think Blind Bargains talked about the iGrill Mini in one of their podcasts,
but I don’t think they did one just on it.

Thanks,
Ari
