I just got myself a pair of these yesterday. as soon as I get to try them out,
I”ll report back! I’m pretty excited about getting them! Right now I have the
world model of the Aftershokz, and they’re fine, but it’d be nice to get rid of
the wire. I tried the blue ones, but they kept falling off my small head.

Thanks to those who replied to my question. I actually have the Filer app. I
never really could understand how the heck it worked. And it's documentation is
hopelessly out of date, referring to things on iOS 3 and four for heaven sake.
So I don't even know if it deals with PDF files. Maybe I will check out the
WinZip app.

2017-02-10 Thread Alan Lemly
I have the paid version of Winzip for iOS and the info in its user guide seemed
to indicate it will do what Mary wants although I must admit I've never used it
for that. I've only used it to zip up a number of music files I had in Dropbox
into one album archive for playing on Voice Dream Reader and it did that
beautifully.

I checked out the description of that Filer app that Melissa mentioned and I
believe its full version costs $3.99.

Hi,

Never would have guessed the raise to wake was in display and brightness,
thanks for that. But turning the sound affects off in voice over audio turns
all the sounds off e.g. when you flick left and right, I wanted all the other
sounds to remain, is there no way of doing that?

Hi. First off, for your lifting the phone issue, go to settings, display and
brightness and turn raise to wake off.

As for Voiceover saying screen locked, if you turn off sounds in settings,
general, accessibility, Voiceover and Audio, you will get the screen locked
message again. This is a new feature in iOS 10 where if you have sounds
enabled, you don't get that message.

Hi,

How do you stop the IPhone from talking as soon as you raise the phone from the
desk etc? and is it possible for voice over to announce when you have locked
the screen instead of getting the tinny sound when the phone is locked? I tried
turning off lock sound but that just turns off the sound but voice over does
not speak.

Thanks, Husna

Hi Husna. How are you? REgarding yr your question about stopping voiceover rto
talk when you raise it, you need to go to to setttings and find display and
brightness, and inside there, it is an option that says raise to wake and that
is on by default, and just double tap on it to turn it off. And your other
question, I'm not s sure. That change in IOS 10, tidoes nto do that. Hope this

trakz titanium with phone and apple watch together?

Hi all,

Anyone using trakz headphones from aftershokz with both iphone and apple watch?

Is it easy to pick up phone call or do they conflict with each other? I have
the bluez 2s the model before still made in plastic and it can only be paired
to 1 device. I hear the trakz can use 2 devices at once. If it does not work
well I might as well stick with the ones I have.

Thanks for any insights.

2017-02-10 Thread Richard Turner

The free version of Winzip seems to work OK, but I have no idea if it will do
what you want. They also have a full version for $4.99. I used the free version
once, so I don't have a lot of experience to share. Here is the link to the
free version.

There are a few apps out there that can do that. My favorite is called filer
which is 100 percent accessible. I think it's free. Hope this helps.

I chose not to continue my subscription after the NFL season, because a lot of
the other stuff I got for my premium subscription price reminded me a lot of
the stuff on Sirius, for which I have no interest in paying 10 dollars a month,
either. But for those Sirius subscribers, I think TuneIn Premium might be an
alternative worth considering. I still use what I can get with the free version
of TuneIn. I think they offer a lot for free, it wont surprise me if they take
some of that away eventually, rolling it into the premium subscription. I will
resubscribe next NFL season if they offer the games as they did this past

Introducing the new version of the Rainbow II Color Reader, a talking
color identifier for the visually impaired and color blind. Small,
accurate and easy to use, the Rainbow Color Reader can easily fit in a
pocket. With over 40 colors, it provides accurate color discrimination
without confusing the user with odd color names or vague descriptions of
the color. Only one button and only a single AAA battery (included) means
simple operation and maintenance!

Who needs the Rainbow II?

The Visually Impaired

The Rainbow II was originally designed for the President of the company,
who is visually impaired. She enjoyed wearing bright colors, but wanted to
be sure she was wearing the correct ones! The Rainbow II's simple, quick
operation provides the color quickly and easily, making it easy to get
dressed in the correct color, sort clothes, pick the right color yarn or
ribbon, and any other task that requires color.

The Color-Blind or, more precisely the WIVES of the Color-Blind!
Men with the various types of color blindness find the Rainbow II very
useful in picking out the correct color shirt, t-shirt, tie, pants or any
other easily confused color object. The ability to read bright LEDs means
indicators can now be read correctly. It is easy to hang in a closet or
keep in a pocket for when it is needed!

Young children learning their colors

Children love the Rainbow II Color Reader!
Give them one, and they will spend the next hour reading the colors of
everything in the house. To make learning colors even more fun, we have

Hi all,

Does anyone know of an accessible program to enable you to copy your

I have my library on the phone but not on this machine and was looking

I currently have around 80 games on my iPHONE. Some of the newer ones include
Evertree Inn which combines a murder mystery with rpg
statistics and choose your own adventure mechanics. Very easy to learn but hard
to win. Another great new casual puzzle game is
Super Tile Smash. You need to set your rotor to vertical navigation to easily
look up and down columns of tiles. There's alsoblind
imatch which is another jem matching game. King of Dragon Pass has a permanent
spot on my iPHOnE. Games don't get much more
replayable and deeply satisfying than that one but it has a learning curve.
Dice World still draws everyone in. So does Seven Little
Words. Have a good look in the games section of the Applevis app directory.
There are loads of game to choose from.

  A Blind Legend

  Shredder Chess
  RoboE

I have tried several more of the blind-friendly games out there, and
there are a lot that are quite accessible. The above are the ones I
ended up staying with for at least a while.

An area that I have really started to enjoy plaing in is the MUD
clients. I have the Mud Rammer installed on my Iphone and this gives
you access to a slew of different Muds right out of the box. You can
also add in other Muds as you find ones not in the standard list. I
play AlterAeon as the main Mud I have found that I like so far.

These are online games, work right off the page, text only and minimised on
data transfer and screen clutter so work quite well on
tablets and phones. They tend to force you to think, apart from slot machine,
which is pretty mindless but good if you like to try
a flutter. Multi-dice is good to have around to use in conjunction with table
games you have, or gambling with a live partner with
you.

Also: http://hoh.me.uk/mob

Is other stuff too, made as succint and minimnal as the games, and a games link
is there anyway. So keeping this latter link in
favourites might be an idea.

You don't need to buy these, I wrote them for fun! They'd even work on an old
Nokia!

You could certainly play any games not based on hearing and reflexes on a
Braille display provided they work with Voiceover. You can turn off the speech
and leave Voiceover running. This is useful when reading books on a braille
display. Having done this, you'd be able to play King of Dragon Pass, Evertree
Inn and any other choose your own adventure style games. Also, Frotz can work
wonderfully making hundreds of text adventures accessible through braille. You
just need to be familiar with all the key commands Voiceover has for allowing
you to control your iOS device with your Braille display. It has always amazed
me that organisations interested in promoting the use of Braille haven't done
more to encourage and spread the word about this kind of thing. Dice World
works well as does Seven Little Words. Many of the Blindfold games should work
fine that way also. Hope that helps get you started.

RE: Syncing contacts with a new computer

2017-02-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mike,

I know changing email addresses nowadays can be a big deal, but I think getting
an email address from Outlook, Google, Apple or Yahoo (not a big fan of Yahoo
as they seem to have lots of security issues) is the way to go compared to have
an email address from your provider. For one thing if you ever change your
internet service provider you’ll get a new email anyways so taking that step
and get yourself an Outlook.com email address is I think a good idea as you’ll
have that for the rest of your life. Also, there is no pressure since you can
of course set up both email addresses in Outlook, then first start by putting
all the contacts you have in your original account into Outlook. Yes, I would
start by using Outlook (the app not the service), after you get your
Outlook.com email address just set it up as a new account. It should be easy if
you use Office 2013 or 2016 since they have built-in support for this and all
you have to enter is your email address and password, there is no need to put
in incoming and outgoing server addresses and al that as Outlook will
automatically configure that.
Once you have that done, also set up the Outlook.com email on your iPhone, make
sure you pick “Outlook.com” or whatever it’s called as the account type on the
first scren after you double tap on “Add account”. Then again just enter your
email and password and, if you like, you can give the account a name or you can
leave it as is.
Once that is done just see if everything works by going into your old account
on Outlook on the computer, go to the contacts and use the Control+Shift+V
command to “Move” a contact. Pick the Contacts folder under your new outlook
account and press enter. Then wait a minute or two and check your iPhone to see
if that contact is there. If you already have it manually entered on your
iPhone, you could maybe create a new contact in Outlook on your computer and
check that, if it syncs and it appears on your iPhone you can do it the other
way around just to make sure, create a contact (you can just make one up called
“Test-iPhone”) and see if it appears in Contacts on your computer. You can also
send a test email, if you send one on the computer that email should also be in
the Sent Items folder on your iPhone. If you receive an email and read it on
the iPhone it should also get marked as read on the PC and if you reply on
either device it should indicate that on the other device. Yes, Calendar should
also sync, when you set up the account on the iPhone it asks as a last step
what you want to sync and it gives you a list you have to make sure is selected
like Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Notes etc.

Good luck, let me know if you have other questions.

Hey Sieghard,
That sounds like the answer for me.
So I can set up an online Outlook email account? Then run that through my
laptop’s Outlook program?
Then both my outlook calendar and contacts will completely sync with my IPhone?

I use Outlook.com for my email and since I have it set up on my iPhone and all
my computers as an exchange active sync account whatever I do on one device
syncs and is reflected on all devices. Often when I’m at my desk and I want to
add a contact I do it via Outlook on my computer and usually the contact is
available on my iPhone 10 or 20 seconds later. Same goes the other way around,
if I’m out and about and I add somebody as a contact on my phone, they are in
my contact list in Outlook by the time I get back.
Of course Outlook.com is not alone here, you should be able to do the same with
gmail which uses IMAP and, for that matter, on anyother service that uses IMAP.

I know I can forward an appointment out of my Laptop’s Outlook calendar and

Then it’s very easy to get that same appointment into my IPhone’s calendar.
But I’m lost when it comes to my contacts. I just manually input them into my

Re: Games for the blind

2017-02-10 Thread Michael Feir
You could certainly play any games not based on hearing and reflexes on a
Braille display provided they work with Voiceover. You can turn off the
speech and leave Voiceover running. This is useful when reading books on a
braille display. Having done this, you'd be able to play King of Dragon
Pass, Evertree Inn and any other choose your own adventure style games.
Also, Frotz can work wonderfully making hundreds of text adventures
accessible through braille. You just need to be familiar with all the key
commands Voiceover has for allowing you to control your iOS device with
your Braille display. It has always amazed me that organisations interested
in promoting the use of Braille haven't done more to encourage and spread
the word about this kind of thing. Dice World works well as does Seven
Little Words. Many of the Blindfold games should work fine that way also.
Hope that helps get you started.

I currently have around 80 games on my iPHONE. Some of the newer ones include
Evertree Inn which combines a murder mystery with rpg statistics and choose
your own adventure mechanics. Very easy to learn but hard to win. Another great
new casual puzzle game is Super Tile Smash. You need to set your rotor to
vertical navigation to easily look up and down columns of tiles. There's
alsoblind imatch which is another jem matching game. King of Dragon Pass has a
permanent spot on my iPHOnE. Games don't get much more replayable and deeply
satisfying than that one but it has a learning curve. Dice World still draws
everyone in. So does Seven Little Words. Have a good look in the games section
of the Applevis app directory. There are loads of game to choose from.

Unfortunately, we've recently had some of the best audio adventure games
including Papa Sangre II become unavailable in the app store. Hopefully,
we'll see some new complex audio adventures soon. In the meantime, the
Frotz app works with Voiceover and lets you play interactive fiction
written in Tads or Inform. This includes old Infocom games if you have
copies of them. I don't know where to legally obtain the Infocom library of
adventures at the moment but have copies from a CDROM I bought over a
decade ago. I'm very thankful I made that particular $40 purchase. Lots of
excellent free text adventures available for Frotz.

All of the games on that site were played and tested and that is why they

include Evertree Inn which combines a murder mystery with rpg statistics
and choose your own adventure mechanics. Very easy to learn but hard to
win. Another great new casual puzzle game is Super Tile Smash. You need to
set your rotor to vertical navigation to easily look up and down columns of
tiles. There's alsoblind imatch which is another jem matching game. King of
Dragon Pass has a permanent spot on my iPHOnE. Games don't get much more
replayable and deeply satisfying than that one but it has a learning curve.
Dice World still draws everyone in. So does Seven Little Words. Have a good
look in the games section of the Applevis app directory. There are loads of
game to choose from.

Re: Games for the blind

2017-02-10 Thread Denny Schwab
Hello,

The games I like, and that are accessible, are:

King of Dragon Pass
A Blind Legend
Lord and Knights
Cribbage Pro
Chesswise
Shredder Chess
RoboE

I have tried several more of the blind-friendly games out there, and
there are a lot that are quite accessible. The above are the ones I
ended up staying with for at least a while.

An area that I have really started to enjoy plaing in is the MUD
clients. I have the Mud Rammer installed on my Iphone and this gives
you access to a slew of different Muds right out of the box. You can
also add in other Muds as you find ones not in the standard list. I
play AlterAeon as the main Mud I have found that I like so far.

Before making game suggestions it would be helpful to know what type of games
you are interested in playing. There are quite a few games in all game
categories that are accessible for the blind to play using voiceover.

Re: tunein radio opinion

2017-02-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm very happy with my TuneIn Premium subscription. I got it mostly for
the NFL and NCA, but I find I listen to more NBA games now and I even
used it to catch some of the World Series. I also listen to some of the
commercial free streaming music, but I wouldn't get TuneIn Radio Premium
for just that content, but it's a nice add on to the sports content I'm
willing to pay for.

On 08/02/17 20:44, Wayne Merritt wrote:

I think it depends on what you are interested in. If you are a sports
nut, love audio books, commercial free music and podcasts, then it's
great. I miss some of the times that I listened to Sirius Satellite
Radio, for the channels and some of the personalities. However, there
were also a number of times when my signal would go out and there
would be dead air. That hasn't happened a lot yet on TuneIn. Also,
TuneIn seems to be cheaper monthly than Sirius was. Perhaps the
commercial free music channels alone would be cheap on Sirius, but
throw in all of the other channels, and the total cost is much more
than TuneIn. Another thing to watch with TuneIn is that it is not
using your location to get radio station location. That will also drop
your battery fast. I turned that off some time ago. It isn't a big
deal though since I can access areas by location through the Browse
tab. I like TuneIn Premium for the NFL games each fall. I am starting
to listen to some audio books there too, but that is not as good as
with a service like Audible. However, unlike with Audible, I don't
have to pay per book on TuneIn, which is nice.

Re: Apple Music

2017-02-10 Thread Michael Feir
Hello everyone. It just occurred to me that I should mention the EQ
settings offered in iOS. These effect any music or audio playing apps. You
can find it in the settings app tucked away in the Music settings. Look
through the settings under the "playback" heading. There, you'll find
volume limit, sound check and eq settings. There are a nice selection of
options. In particular, I find the Lounge and Late Night settings helpful
in revealing details my hearing loss makes me prone to miss. I wish Apple
had put these options right n the Music app itself. People are always
surprised whe I tell them about the EQ choices. Hope everyone's catching a
better sleep than I did.
