2017-05-07 Thread Chris Judd
Hi all,

I am using lire version 3.0.12.
I went to add a subscription, and couldn’t find any categories to choose from.
Every time I press add subscription, I am put in a search box right away.
I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem or could offer any
suggestions on what I should do?

Well, the first thing that needs to be done is downloading, installing, and
connecting your iCloud account with the iCloud extension for windows. This
will pull your contacts, pictures if you want, and even your iCloud Drive.

RE: Mickey Mouse voice

It's cute to have them speak the time for entertainment, but believe me, you
wouldn't want to set them as the main voice, if you did somebody who was close
by when you use your iPhone would take it away from you after 5 minutes and
stomp on the mouse.

Hi Jen,

The Mickey Mouse voice is only for telling the time on the Mickey Mouse watch
face. There's a Minnie one for her face as well. They don't speak any other
info on the watch, though. They're not on the phone at all.

Hello all,

I was wondering if someone is using the Braillant Braille Display with the
Bible App by youversion. If you highlight the read tab at the bottom, it
will take you to some items, including a search box with an edit field. If
I get into the edit field, and type in let's say Hebrews 2-1, it will not
bring up the scripture. In fact, nothing appears on the screen except clear,
cancel and option. I am just trying out the Braillant with this app. Now if
I use the keyboard on the screen, the scripture comes up just fine. Is there
something else I should be doing? Thanks.

Screen curtain doesn't save battery, though. It just covers the
screen at whatever brightness it is set for. Locking the screen is
the best way to save power, I think. that blanks out the screen,
really, instead of just covering it with a curtain.

Hi Jen,

The Mickey Mouse voice is only for telling the time on the Mickey Mouse watch
face. There's a Minnie one for her face as well. They don't speak any other
info on the watch, though. They're not on the phone at all.

Looking for an accessible nutrition app

2017-05-07 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all, and I'm sorry for the cross posting, but I am really in need of an app
where I can either dictate or type in certain nutrients and get a list of foods
that contain all of them in decent amount. It's easy enough to do a query for
foods high in this or that vitamin or mineral. But when I really want is an app
that he's going to let me search on two or three things and get a list of foods
that contain all of them

QPush - a promising solution for pushing text from a computer to the iPhone

2017-05-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi List,

I used to have an app called Zero Tap which allowed me to go to a particular
website, after creating a login and installing an app on my iPhone I could then
go to this website, enter text into an edit box and when I opened the Zero Tap
app on my iPhone this text would appear in the app from where I could copy it,
start an SMS etc. I know there are other apps like this out there, but when I
recently started using Google Chrome as my main web browser, I saw a Chrome
extension called QPush. It does the same thing, you can go via their website or
use the extension to "push" the link of the web page where you are currently at
or you can enter text into an edit field and push it to your phone.
First in the Google Chrome extension you type in an Id for your iPhone and a
six-digit Pin is then displayed, you then use this to log into the app on your
iPhone. Once the connection exists the push works. The nice thing for those who
have an Apple Watch is that I realized suddenly after I played around with it
that when I pushed some text from the extension I suddenly received a tap on my
wrist from my Apple watch and when I woke it up the text was also displayed
there along with a handy copy button.
I am not using this a ton, but it's nice to have the option and since I am
logged into the Chrome browser with my Gmail account, setting up the QPush
extension on one computer means it's also automatically available on all my
other computers without having to set it up separately.

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: getting speech directions in Maps without VO turned on

2017-05-07 Thread Richard Turner
Yes, turning off vibration there does put the beep back, but it also disables
all vibrations. So, if you mute your phone, even though you may have “vibrate
on silent” on, it won’t vibrate.
That obviously is up to each person which they prefer.

S O S from Nancy and her SE

2017-05-07 Thread Nancy

Hi All,

Last night when I went to bed my SE had 95% power; this morning it was
down to 54%.

Will someone please remind me how to turn the screen back on? I have it
blank right now. I use the SE mainly just to make phone calls. The
only thing that I can think of that has changed is that I had my husband
add the update to my KNFB reader which I bought when it was on sale, but
have not used yet.

At this point the most important thing I need to know is how to get the
screen turned back on so my husband can see how to check things.

After that, I think I need to adjust the time before screen lock.

Please help us get started.

Many thanks,

Nancy and her SE

Re: Tweetings's Push notifications?

2017-05-07 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
You shouldn't have to turn off push notifications in any other twitter
client. You might want to check that they're not only turned on under the
settings in the tweetings app itself but also that it registered properly I
believe registration is right in that area of the app. then make sure its
notifications are turned on in the notifications subsection of the phone's
own settings area.
then for fun send a tweet from tweetings app or reply to one sometimes that
makes their servers spring into action or at least it has in previous years.
It couldn't hurt to try as well.

I hope that helps.
Robin

Mighg I need to first turn off notifications in the native Twitter app? I
didn't want to, since I have certain followers who I get notifications from,
or is there somewhere in Tweetings this can be done? I can't seem to find it
either!

LivriVox app and old time radio

2017-05-07 Thread Russ Kiehne
I've used the LivriVox app in the past. The problem is, shows like the lone
ranger is on 45 mp3 cd's and it will take for ever to download it.
Archive.org does have a lot of shows as you said. In several cases, the
collections I bought have a lot more episodes than the collections on
archive.org.

This is just a bit off-topic but I wanted to reply to Russ’ comment.

Russ, there is really no need to buy old time radio episodes as virtually
all of them are available for free, at archive.com.

Archive.com is very screen reader accessible, on either a PC or a Mac but,
the easiest way to obtain the episodes is to use the LivriVox app.

Just wanted to put this out there.

If you need more info, post to the list using a different subject.

Mark

In my case, I have to have a computer in addition to my ios device. I need
the computer to be able to transfer large zipped files to voice dream
reader. I also use the computer to download the old time radio shows I buy
for later transfer to my ios device.

Hi
This is my opinion.
I prefer ten times more surfing the net with VO in IOS / safari, than with
jaws whether in internet explorer, firefox, or chrome.

The safari with VO, is much more stable and accessible.

I know there are things to be updated with VO in html content, but even so
it is much more accessible.

In my domestic tasks I have no special needs.
Even in my work, I use my iPhone, or iPad.
I'm a telephone operator, and my iPhone or iPad, they do the job ...
And most of the time, do the job better than on a pc.
cheers.

Same here. My iPHONE7 is my computer In most circumstances. The last piece
to the puzzle was finding the Ulysses app. I now do all my writing using
this app and a Bluetooth keyboard. I can carry a bag with accessories
including headset, keyboard, external battery. It's far more portable and
more easily upgraded and any laptop I ever owned. Battery life for even my
best laptop was around six hours. With an external battery I can easily
carry in a pocket, I can kep the iPHONE and acessories going for a few days
if necessary.

For everyday stuff, an iPHONE has all the computing power you need plug GPS
and camera helpful in identifying objects, getting around and scanning
documents.

There are some audio games which require more RAM, storage space and
processor power than we're ever likely to see on an iPHONE or other tablet.
Other than that, I seem to have reached a point where my needs are quite
nicely met by my iPHONE7. I'm currently working on Personal Power: The iOS
Edition. Similar to the guide I wrote for Windows computers, it will help
people understand the potential and get the most benefit in their personal
lives from iOS devices they have. I hope to be done in around a year.
Possibly less if things go as well as I hope this Simmer.

Re: 10 ways the iPhone changed everything

2017-05-07 Thread Sadam Ahmed

The iPhone is certainly a great device and from the 4 now to my current
7 I wouldn't be without but as others have said some things like
composing long emails, fixing up my resume, and writing cover letters
when searching for jobs are things I much prefer to do using my laptop
or desktop PC with JAWS.

Using Facebook quickly responding to emails and using GPS are great on
my iPhone.

Thanks Mark for a wonderful article.

Best wishes
