app that slows down music

2017-07-25 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
Hi all. A little while ago someone mentioned an app that will slow down
music that's on your phone. Could someone please refresh my memory. I'd
like to try it. I thought I'd saved the email, but can't find it now.
Thanks very much.

Re: Seeing AI Short Text Function

2017-07-25 Thread Richard Turner

First, scanned image PDF documents are generally not great text quality.
Also, there is so much clutter on a computer screen, it would be hard to get
just the document in focus.
You might try maximizing the window to see if that helps.
But, maybe printing it then using Seeing AI would be better.
The Short Text works fabulously on my Windows 10 screen at home and my Windows
7 screen at work.
But, I only use it for messages that are popping up.
Not for trying to read a document on the screen.

Richard

I've been playing around with my Seeing AI app the past couple of
days. Since I don't have many print documents around the house, I've
been trying the short text function. At least when I have tried
getting it to read the text on my computer screen I've had almost zero
luck. No matter how close or far I put the camera from the screen, I
get mostly gibberish and at best just the top of the window. Certainly
never the main text of, say, a newspaper article. I can't imagine how
people are using this to read fast food restaurant menus as many are
claiming.

RE: I phone 7 problems

2017-07-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If that doesn't work you can try to go to Settings > General > Reset and do a
Reset Network Settings. I know that again this sounds like it has little to do
with it, but it's surprising how many issues including battery drainage issues
this can sometimes fix. If you try this it will reboot your phone as part of
the process and the only two things that get reset are the phone's name and the
WiFi passworeds. This means that if you named your phone "Gary's iPhone" or
something like that it would get reset to just "iPhone". You would simply go to
Settings > General > About and rename it again. Your WiFi password or passwords
would need to be entered, i.e. you have to reconnect to your WiFi network and
enter the password when prompted.

Sieghard

RE: I phone 7 problems

2017-07-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Have you cleaned your screen lately? I know this sounds like not a big deal,
but the switching to speakerphone and other screen issues could be caused by
this and it certainly won't hurt to do it. Just give it a good wipe with a damp
cloth (damp, but not dripping) and then wipe it dry.
There is no need to be super-careful, especially the iPhone 7 is very
water-proof, I usually hold my phone upside down just to make sure I am not
accidently dripping water into the earpiece opening etc. Otherwise it's just a
piece of glass so no special cloth or cleaning stuff is needed.

The screen went down when I was flicking through the weather app. It also acted
weird on Safari when looking at a menu for a restaurant. I always close apps.
When talking to someone on the phone it just went to speaker. Well, to make it
a little clearer the screen locked when I was flicking through the weather app.

Hi there, one thing I've noticed with the short text channel as well as the
product channel, is when you are reading for a while, it tends to stop. And you
have to go back out of the app and open it again to be able to read more. Does
anybody have that issue?

RE: EchoBee Thermostat

2017-07-25 Thread Mike Ulrich
I know what you mean, I have an older non wireless talking thermostat that's
supposedly programmable. But even with the supplied video, they don't mention
the names of a couple of buttons and do the "Hit this button" thing and that
ain't too cool for the blind.
So I just readjust the temp in the morning, then at night.

Hello yes it is, but I will have to say that I had trouble programming the
schedules with voiceover in the app. So I just want to ahead and said that if I
need to temperature change I'll just go into the app and change it.

No, I don't think so. However, you can see that humidity inside your house. As
well as the temp. As for what the low and high's are supposed to be.

RE: EchoBee Thermostat

2017-07-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Does the thermostat you mention support Homekit/SIRI?
The nice thing with EchoBee is that it does support Homekit/SIRI and also that
you can get a variety of sensors which hcan be installed in different rooms tro
monitor temperature/humidity etc.
If I didn't already have the connected thermostats from www.RadioThermostat.com
I would seriously consider EchoBee as well.

Re: EchoBee Thermostat

2017-07-25 Thread Joseph Hudson
Hello Yolanda, I'm not using that exact thermostat. But I am using another one
from Emberson technologies. It is called Cincy. The thermostat is purchasable
from your local Home Depot store. And the app is a free download in the App
Store. The app is mostly accessible, the only thing is, you may need sided
assistance on setting up the thermostat at first. Such as connecting it to the
Internet, and connecting it to the cincy thermostat app. But it is definitely
well worth the purchase. I purchased mine for $130. Let me know if I can help
you.

I can't seem to get the short text channel to read any LED displays. On my
stove, for example, it will read the labels of the buttons, but I can't get it
to read the display.

Is anyone having any luck with reading LED displays?

I had a little trouble with the text starting over but just muddled through.
I figure it might be the monitor doing something to make it do that.

I am using the iPhone 7. Is there a specific resolution your monitor needs to
be set at to work properly? Also, I feel like I do a decent job of holding the
camera still but the text always stops and restarts.

RE: Seeing AI Short Text Function

2017-07-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you have a sighted family member or friend around I'd suggest you ask them
to check it out and get them to help you.
It can be very helpful to get feedback from somebody who can see what you do
and see the screen as you do it when it comes to using the camera.
You mentioned you haven't been too successful with KNFB Reader either which
means you may just not hold the camera straight, if I put a piece of paper on a
flat surface and it is good quality print the result I get with KNFB Reader
free hand is usually just as good as if I use a flatbed scanner with something
like Openbook and I know many other list members get similarly good results.
I also used Seeing AI short text this morning when I brushed against a
cardboard sign which somebody had put up on a lamp post at about head height
and which was overhanging the sidewalk.
I stood about 5 feet in front of it and point my camera at it and the app
immediately read out "Detour" and something about "RV's using Riverside
Campground".
For me that was enough to know that this was obviously an official sign put up
by the town so I called the town office, asked them to put me through to their
work yard office where they are responsible for stuff like this and told the
lady they were lucky this wasn't a metal sign or I may have had a nice scratch
on the side of my head. She assured me that she would get somebody there to put
it a foot or two higher right away so it would be well above head height.
It's a very useful app to sayt the least and I look forward to future
improvements. One can hope that since Microsoft is doing this they won't just
give up on it like so many other developers have done with apps which started
out so promising. It certainly wouldn't be for a lack of funds, server space or
whatever.

Sieghard

The screen went down when I was flicking through the weather app. It also acted
weird on Safari when looking at a menu for a restaurant. I always close apps.
When talking to someone on the phone it just went to speaker. Well, to make it
a little clearer the screen locked when I was flicking through the weather app.

RE: Seeing AI Short Text Function

2017-07-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
What you describe about the app starting to read text over and over sounds like
you are moving the phone/camera.
I am getting very good results as well, this morning I received my neww
government guide dog Id card in the mail and I pointed the phone at the letter
that came with it using the short text function and it read it out flawlessly.
I just tried it again pointing my iPhone 6S Plus towards my 24 inch LCD screen
from about a foot away with Outlook and this email open and it read a bunch of
the menus and things on the screen and then most of what I just wrote here.
Also just tried it by holding it over my Apple Watch where it read me the date,
time and the current temperature which are some of the complications I have on
this watch face. Only mistake was that it said "230 Fair" instead of "23
degrees Fair", so it recognized the degree symbol as a zero.

Sieghard

RE: Seeing AI Short Text Function

2017-07-25 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND

Is there a specific resolution your monitor
needs to be set at to work properly? Also, I feel like I do a decent
job of holding the camera still but the text always stops and
restarts.

RE: I phone 7 problems

2017-07-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Gary,

Can you describe what you mean by "my screen was going down"? Please try to
provide some more examples of how the iPhone behaves difdferently after the
update.
I have never heard of an iPhone "getting hacked" where somebody has direct
control of your iPhone so I wouldn't worry about that. Maybe something didn't
quite go right with the update. Did you just update or di dyou close all apps
in the app switcher and at least do a reboot of the phone before installing
10.3.3?

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi everyone,
I guess I am a worrier, but we have the i phone 7 and since the update weird
things have been going on. How would you know if your phone had been hacked? I
know they were talking about the update was a security update, and there were
ways of people getting in to i phones. I have had to reboot the phone twice
today because of it not acting right in certain apps. Please shed some light on
this if you can. My screen was going down when I was in an app doing something
and that has never happened.
Thanks for your thoughts on this craziness.

RE: Seeing AI Short Text Function

2017-07-25 Thread Mike Ulrich
Well I know the IPhone camera, when running through the Seeing AI's Short
Channel is a bit sensitive. Actually quite sensitive indeed. One must really
hold the camera steady. I let it pick up on the verbiage, then instantly as it
starts reading, flick the camera lens away so its not aiming at any other
readable verbiage.
Doing it this way; it'll read quite a bit, before you have to refocus it.

I'm getting more and more used to all the channels on this in creditable app! A
big time thumbs up for sure Mr. Microsoft!

I'll give an example. Let's say I'm trying to view text from a scanned

foot away. All it will read me is the stuff at the top of the screen,
with the menu bars and such.

This is one of the apps which will not function with IOS11 and VIA seems not as

will be so saddened because VIA is such a valuable resource with groupings and
so much work put into it. I hope the developers put some work into updating it
to work with 64bit components so that we do not lose it and other apps.

  Hi!

Since someone on this list is in the Look Tel development team I'd like to
know will there be some update for the Look Tel Recognizer regarding upcoming
iOS 11 release? I got the notification this app will work no more after
installing iOS 11 since it is not 64-bit compliant. I love this app, I use it
on the daily basis and it would be a wonderful thing if the developers update
it.

P.S. There is my another post regarding Gree AC and there's still no answers
so if anybody know something about Gree devices please let me know.

  Take care!

Re: Seeing AI Short Text Function

2017-07-25 Thread Kelby Carlson
I am using the iPhone 7. Is there a specific resolution your monitor
needs to be set at to work properly? Also, I feel like I do a decent
job of holding the camera still but the text always stops and
restarts.

Look Tel Apps

2017-07-25 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
Since someone on this list is in the Look Tel development team
I'd like to know will there be some update for the Look Tel
Recognizer regarding upcoming iOS 11 release? I got the
notification this app will work no more after installing iOS 11
since it is not 64-bit compliant. I love this app, I use it on the
daily basis and it would be a wonderful thing if the developers
  update it.
P.S. There is my another post regarding Gree AC and there's still
no answers so if anybody know something about Gree devices please
  let me know.
Take care!

I phone 7 problems

2017-07-25 Thread GARY WILLIAMS
Hi everyone,
I guess I am a worrier, but we have the i phone 7 and since the update weird
things have been going on. How would you know if your phone had been hacked? I
know they were talking about the update was a security update, and there were
ways of people getting in to i phones. I have had to reboot the phone twice
today because of it not acting right in certain apps. Please shed some light on
this if you can. My screen was going down when I was in an app doing something
and that has never happened.
Thanks for your thoughts on this craziness.

I have had excellent response with the short text both on monitor and menus

using? I'm using the SE version and all functions work fine for me. I used
the short text for updating my computer just last night and this morning in

Re: Seeing AI Short Text Function

2017-07-25 Thread kelbycarlson
I've also been reading the prior threads on this, for example on the
product channel. I've been pretty unimpressed with that too. It's only
managed to recognize one or two products. Mostly it doesn't even beep, even
if I center it and hold the phone about twelve inches from the camera. But,
then again, perhaps I'm just terrible with the camera. I've never had much
luck scanning documents with KNFB reader either.

Re: Using a braille display to write braille on an iPhone

2017-07-25 Thread dollar031
Hi Mary, I believe that between Humanware is still having issues with it. I
do not have any issues with the braille input. I do not use Humanware. I use
the Focus 40 Blue works fine with it as no issues. Hope this help you.

Re: Using a braille display to write braille on an iPhone

2017-07-25 Thread Flor Lynch

Hi Mary,
You would get a variety of different opinions from people who care to
respond. Most Bluetooth-capable braille displays have very few or no issues
inputting to an iPhone. For any Grade 2 Braille issues remaining: Eight-dot
Braille, I find, is the most reliable means of inputting what you want; and
it isn't difficult to learn. (You can always revert to six-dot or Grade 2
Braille when you need to, for certain symbols which you are unsure of.) Some
displays can't give you eight-dot Braille, though. I use either a Focus14
Blue, or a Focus40 Blue.

Subject: Using a braille display to write braille on an iPhone

I know that in the past, there have been fairly serious issues regarding the
writing of braille on an iPhone when you use a braille display. I haven't
really kept up with this, but now, I am interested to know if braille input
is more reliable, or if displays, such as the humanware, still lock up, or
if there are issues with grade two and words coming out strangely. Did they
fix that?

EchoBee Thermostat

2017-07-25 Thread Yolanda Thompson
We are wanting to purchase the EchoBee thermostat with sensors. I have
tried the app with VO, and while I can see the different buttons, if I want
to change percentage or temp, I do not see a ticker pop-up. Is anyone using
this thermostat successfully with VO?
