Re: Hello, glad to be on this list

2019-05-02 Thread Holly

Hi Joshua:

Welcome to the list. I have recently joined this list and find a lot of
good information from some very knowledgeable folks.

I am sure you will love your iPhone.

There are so many great apps for helping the blind that are now available.
I am sure you will hear about them here.

I have a iPhone 7, and it was my first smart phone. Very happy with it.

Holly

Hello, glad to be on this list

2019-05-02 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Hi. I will soon be getting an IPHONE 8. For almost the past 3 years
I've used an LG TERRA flip phone. That is a great phone, but I've
heard so much about certain apps like seeing AI that I really wanted
to try a smart phone. At first, I was thinking about an android
phone, but since so many blind people have Iphones and that training
materials to learn an apple product seem so easy to find, I decided to
get an apple phone. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions. I do have
friends that I know will help me out. Glad to be a part of this list.

RE: What are share sheets?

2019-05-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you tap Share for example when you open an PDF email attachment there are
sort of two sections and each of them has a "More" button.
Tap on them and you should find Voice Dream Reader, the apps in these "More"
sections" are available but not turned on by default.

RE: Setting up Spectrum TV app

2019-05-02 Thread Bill Outman
Further update on the Spectrum TV app situation. Apparently I have to have
Internet service through Spectrum as well as television to use the app. It
took three persons on the phone line to finally tell me that, and the phone
system did not recognize my request to speak with the accessibility
department. That was my second stop. Thankfully this was all on one phone
call.

Unfortunately, it is never made clear on Spectrum’s television advertisements
or on the basic info page about the app that Internet service through them is a
requirement. If it is disclosed in the TV ads, it’s in print on the screen,
which of course I cannot see.

So that’s the story on this issue.

Our HOA pays for basic service, but each user has their own account, and pays
for any aditional services, such as premium channels, etc. Personally, I set up
my account on their web site, and only had to enter my creds when first signing
into the app.

Well, it looks like I’ll have to make a call to Spectrum, then. I am presuming
all of us in each apartment have different account numbers even though the
complex is paying for a certain level of service, as in theory you could
upgrade to another level. I could be wrong about this, though.

I actually had a situation where I was suddenly be charged extra for a certain
type of box, and had the box changed so I wouldn’t have that extra fee, and
even got a more user friendly remote. They charged me for that change, though,
which I didn’t care for, so I ended up paying some money to save money.

I am thinking that perhaps you can only set up an account if you are the one
paying the bill.

If the app gets the sign on information from your spectrum modem then you can
only use it when you are in range of that particular modem. That is the way my
husband‘s iPhone is set up.

I set mine up by putting in the user name and password and I can use it even
when there is no spectrum available.

My only complaint about the app is that I like to use the live TV tab to pick
what to watch. I have not found a way to turn off the video sound so that I can
hear the voiceover reading the other choices. Very aggravating but usable .

RE: Setting up Spectrum TV app

2019-05-02 Thread Bill Outman
Hi, andy, I am in a similar situation. What I couldn't find on the web site is
where to enter the relevant information to set up the ID and password to use on
the app.

If you have an actual account with Spectrum, then you should be able to set up
access to that on their web site, and then use that user and password in the
app...but I’m just guessing on that. all the 0 sign on really does is pull the
user and password from the modem ... good luck!

With the new 0 sign on .. you should just be able to install the app in your

have had Spectrum off and on a few times in the last couple of years, and tried
it out about 2 months ago, and that is all I had to do..

Good morning.

I finally got the courage to explore the Spctrum TV app after reading some
encouraging comments about it from previous posts on this list.

Can I set it up from within the app, and what information will I need to
provide? Do I need to go to the web site and is that process doable?

I could not find any option to add the Assistive Touch to the Control
Center. Do you have to have that feature already running on the device for
it to show up in the list of items which can be added?

Hello All,

Apple recently posted the following article to Twitter; so I thought I"d
pass it along.

Mark

Learn how to add VoiceOver, Assistive Touch, Guided Access, and more to your
Control Center for easy access.

About the Accessibility Shortcut for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Learn how to add VoiceOver, Assistive Touch, Guided Access, and more to your
Control Center for easy access. And use triple-click to quickly access
frequently used Accessibility features.

Use the Side button
If you have an iPhone X or later, you have a Side button instead of a Home
button. Follow these steps:
. To set up Accessibility Shortcut: Go to Settings > General >
Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut, then select the features that you
use the most.
. To use Accessibility Shortcut: Triple-click the Side button.
. To slow down the double-click or triple-click speed for the Side
button: Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Side Button.

Use the Home button
. To set up Accessibility Shortcut: Go to Settings > General >
Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut, then select the features that you
use the most.
. To use Accessibility Shortcut: Triple-click the Home button.
. To slow down the double-click or triple-click speed for the Home
button: Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Home Button.

Use Control Center
. To customize Control Center: Go to Settings > Control Center >
Customize Controls, then tap next to accessibility features such as
Accessibility Shortcuts, Magnifier, Hearing Aids, Touch Accommodations, and
Guided Access.
. To activate an accessibility feature from Control Center: Open
Control Center, then tap the accessibility feature.

You can also use iTunes to manage the Accessibility features on your device.
Follow these steps:
1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to any computer with iTunes
installed.
2. In iTunes, select your device.
3. From the Summary pane, click Configure Accessibility in the Options
section at the bottom.
4. Select the feature that you want to use and click OK.

To learn more about the accessibility features and how to use each one,
refer to the Accessibility section of the user guide for your iOS device.

Try this Podcast:

Exploring the New Gestures and Changed Button Functions on the iPhone
X

It doesn’t matter whether you have one of the original iPhone X models, an XR
or an XS/XS Max, the gestures which essentially replace pressing or double
pressing the home button are all the same.

Ketan, the best way to hold the phone to set up face ID.
1. Hold the phone up to your nose
2. Slowly move the phone away from your face about half way of arms length.
3. Face ID will tell you which way to turn your head to get the pictures it
needs.

Hello,

If your friend has access to a computer you could put the iPhone into recovery
mode this will restore it to factory defaults.

Power the iPhone off.

Connect it to a computer.

Launch ITunes on the computer.

Now press and hold the power and home buttons on the iPhone and hold them until
ITunes prompts you that it has defected an iPhone in recovery mode.

Follow the on-screen instructions and your iPhone should be in its default
state.

Urgent help needed setting up an iPhone

2019-05-02 Thread Fanus Buys
Hello list
I donated my 5S to a friend. I did a setup as new phone before sending it to
him and I selected not to use a passcode. Someone tried to assist him to set
up an apple account but in the process they activated the passcode setting
and typed a code. Then they got confused and now the lady who assisted can
not remember the passcode. Is the applestore the only people who will be
able to get the phone to reset?

Re: Iphone X R

2019-05-02 Thread Michael Feir
Hello Ketan. My wife is enjoying her 10R very much. You should go to
www.applevis.com
Where you'll find all kinds of podcasts and tutorials. Because there is no
home button, there are some new gestures to learn. To reach the app
switcher, put your finger at the very bottom and you'll hear a very short
low beep. Slide your finger up until you hear the third beep. It's like the
gesture to reach the home screen but with one extra higher beep.

The gestures to reach the control centre and notification centre are
similar but from the top down. The accessibility shortcut can be done by
clicking the action button on the side three times.

I have yet to experience face id. However, I understand that you need to
hold the iPHONE in portrait mode and your face should be around six inches
to a foot away. VoiceOver should talk you through the process of setting up
face id. Hope that helps.

Iphone X R

2019-05-02 Thread Ketan Kothari
Hi friends,

I am in India and totally blind. I have just purchased Iphone X R. I
am unable to go to app switcher any which way. Is there any trick?
Also, How do hold phone to enable it to recognize face ID? I am
confused. Is there either podcaste or blog on changed design in this
and similar phones?

I have been using Iphones for past 7 years but never so confused.

Thank you.

Ketan
