flagged messages

2019-07-15 Thread karl Smith
I recently bit the bullet and put my e-mail on my iPhone. I know I can go
through my in box and delete individual messages and threads but I have a
question about marking. I can mark all the messages either as unread or
flagged. I was hoping that if flagged I could then delete all the flagged
messages in one quick step. This is apparently not the case. Is there a way
to do this and if not can anyone give me a reason I might want to mark my
messages as flagged? Thank you.

RE: Some Interesting VoiceOver Accessibility Facts About the Spectrum Cable Service, It's getting Better and Better

2019-07-15 Thread M. Taylor
You don't sign your name so I have no idea as to whom to address my replies.

What is your first name?

As this thread is getting a bit long, I'll close it by saying that your reply
makes plenty of sense.

With the traditional Spectrum TV cable subscription, the DVR portion of the app
serves as a remote DVR. This is to say, one can manage DVR recordings,
schedules, etc but can only play the content back on a set-top box.

Mark,

I have the Spectrum TV Choice package which is a streaming only package. Gives
me all my local channels and 10 Cable channels for like $25, and then on top of
that I pay $5 for the DVR service...which allows me to record 50 programs. I
forgot that the Spectrum TV app also works for the traditional packages...but I
don't know if you can add the DVR for that. I'm actually surprised that you
have the DVR tab, because from my understanding you should only have that tab
if you have the streaming DVR. They have only had this for about 3months.
Think it was 4/23 or there abouts when they released it, and they still have
some bugs to work out.

Sorry for any confusion.

Hi,

How do you get playback on the DVR to work from within the Spectrum TV app?
From within the Spectrum TV app, I go to the DVR tab, I can see my recorded
shows but the only option I get is to play them back, on my TV; this is to say,
on my table-top cable box.

Does one have to pay a fee in order to get DVR playback to work from within the
Spectrum TV iOS app?

I have searched the web for the answer to this question but have had no luck,
so far. And as for calling Spectrum customer service? No way. They almost
never give the correct answer to anything.

The only time you can pause something is if you have added the DVR and are
watching that via the DVR tab...there is a play/pause button that works well...
All other places you are watching live TV and hence can't stop it .. Doesn't
work like a traditional DVR. I'm not really sure why they have that as part of
the controls .. maybe they will add it at some point.

I have contacted them several times about issues .. and they have been pretty
responsive...

If you use the Apple TV app, you can speak a lot of the commands .. like
changing the secondary audio .. skipping back and forth while watching a DVR
recording and such...sometimes results aren't consistent, but they are getting
better ...

Unfortunately, the two finger double tap does not work in this app, you must
select a different tab, such as Guide or On Demand.
Even when you enable the video controls, there seems to be no pause or Stop
button.
Audio description may be enabled, but no way to stop the video that I have
found.
Thanks.

Maybe you could just open your 'notes' app that is already installed on your
phone. Just start a new note and practice typing. Just delete it when you are
finished.

When you go into Notes, there will be a button that VoiceOver calls “new note.”
Double-tap on that. It is at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Hi to all. How do you begin a new note in the notes APP? I opened
the notes app and it had all kinds of ICLOUD junk in it. I couldn't
find a place to type a new note.

Mark, thank you, for explaining the smart keyboard further, with you
describing it in this message. It sounds very interesting. The smart
keyboard must add more in someway, as a keyboard and other aspects with
being more like a mac book air. The other person that answered some of my

Hello Arlene,

I think your questions have been answered but, as I am getting a little
confused as to who has answered, what, I'm just going to reply.

The Apple Smart Keyboard is an extremely thin hardware keyboard that acts as
a cover for iPad. This is to say, when it is placed on top of the display,
the display turns off and the iPad locks.

Also, unlike a, quote, standard hardware Bluetooth keyboard, quote, it does
not need to be charged, as there is no battery nor does it need to be paired
to iPad in order to function. The actual keyboard configuration mirrors
that of a MacBook Air.

Mark, There's nothing like, over amount of time, finding how well something
is so useful and meets your needs, in this case your ipad. Also pointing out
that your ipad and smart keyboard is in addition to your other technology,
your phone and other computers. in other words you're not putting all your
eggs in one basket. I have some questions, What is lte?
could you tell a little more about the smart keyboard, is it different from
a bluetooth keyboard? Does it work differently than a bluetooth keyboard?
Also would a smart keyboard be accessible for someone that relies on voice
over that has no vision? Some of these questions may seem silly to ask, but
since I don't have the answers, it's best to ask. What a treasure for you
finding out all that you can do between your ipad and smart keyboard. Thank
you for sharing.

Hello All,

Okay, it's official, I absolutely love my iPad Pro. I have owned it
almost
five months, now, and find that I am using it more and more, each day. I
am
certain that my new found appreciation of the tablet has to do with the
Apple Smart Keyboard, an accessory that makes iPad feel more like a moble
desktop than a tablet.

What I am discovering is that I enjoy the fusion of the hardware keyboard
and the touch screen. This makes what are sometimes challenging websites
for my PC and/or Mac computers much more easily accessible.

I find that I am using a much wider range of iOS apps on iPad than I ever
would have on iPhone because of the convenience of the Smart Keyboard.

For example, I now manage all of the administrative functions of this
group
on my iPad where as I used to only manage it via my PC. Simply put, the
experience is better on iPad than on a desktop; iPhone is simply too small
and there is the issue of not having an easily accessible hardware
keyboard
for iPhone. Yes, I have a Apple Bluetooth keybord for iPhone but I much
prefer to use the iPad Smart Keyboard.

For so many years I was of the opinion that the VoiceOver experience on
iPhone would/should be the same on iPad. I was completely wrong on this
point.

I'm seriously thinking about activating the LTE feature on the tablet but
have not yet done so because I use it, primarily, at home.

I have decided not to install any financial / money management apps on it
because the iPhone works just fine and I do anticipate using iPad on a
public Wi-Fi sooner or later, assuming I do not activate LTE or make use
of
my tethering option.

Now I'm not suggesting that I would buy a tablet instead of a Mac or PC
computer; but I am saying that the tablet certainly augments both my web
browsing accessibility experience and my confidence in terms of accessing
various software applications and challenging websites.

In short, it is a wonderful addition to my other technology, not a
replacement for it.

As a ten-year iPHone user, it has taken a little time to get used to iPad
and its advantages and, in some cases, its disadvantages.

It will be interesting to discover how Apple will further increase the
distinction between iOS and iPad OS, this fall.

I had planned on installing the beta of iPad OS on my iPad Pro but, I am
enjoying using iPad so much that I find that I have no desire to test the
new OS until it is much more stable (smile).

Just thought I would post this for those of you who may be considering
iPad.
If you do decide to move forward with a purchase, I cannot stress enough
the
important, in my opinion, of also buying, if not the Apple Smart Keyboard,

Hello Mike,

The Spectrum Mobile app is for managing your Spectrum account; for example,
seeing your account balance, adding or removing services, scheduling house
calls, etc.

The Spectrum TV app is for actually enjoying the content of your
subscription.

Subject: Some Interesting VoiceOver Accessibility Facts About the Spectrum
Cable Service, It's getting Better and Better

This is for all of you who subscribe to Spectrum Cable. I realize that
Spectrum is a Canadian company but I can only report my experience here in
the U.S.

1.
The Spectrum Mobile for iOS app appears to be 100% VoiceOver accessible.
This is to say, I have yet to discover any area of the app that does not
work with VoiceOver.

2.
The Spectrum TV app, for iOS, appears to be 100% VoiceOver accessible, also.
In fact, I have been using it for several days, now, and am amazed at how
well it works with VoiceOver. I have installed it on both iPhone and iPad
and both experiences are marvelous.

3.
Did you know that any Spectrum subscriber can add upto 5 limited users to
his account? In order to access various features to which the primary member
is subscribed? For no additional costs.

So, for example, if you are subscribed to Spectrum for your television cable
service, not only can you install the Spectrum TV app on all of your devices
so that you can enjoy all of your allowed stations, from within your home
and a subset of those stations when a way from home, you can authorize up to
5 limited users to have access to that same channel line-up on their mobile
devices, as well, on their respective mobile devices. I say limited because
these users cannot access your actual account in terms of receiving bills,
seeing your account number, etc. They can only see the items that you allow
them to see. I am using the TV tool, as merely an example. Each of your
authorized limited users will have her own login user ID and Password,
separate and distinct from your own. You can change their account access
permissions or remove them from your account at any time, at which point the
Spectrum TV app and any of its related features will be immediately
disabled.

The best part is that the entire process of creating and managing users, is
completely VoiceOver accessible in Safari for iOS.

Now I stipulate Safari because the more advanced features of Spectrum
account management can only be accomplished via a web browser, not the
mobile app. The app, to dayte, simply does not allow for such advanced
account management.

So if you are a Spectrum Cable subscriber, and you have not yet done so,
create your Spectrum online account, sign in, download, and enjoy.

Mark

RE: Some Interesting VoiceOver Accessibility Facts About the Spectrum Cable Service, It's getting Better and Better

2019-07-15 Thread M. Taylor

Even when you enable the video controls, there seems to be no pause or Stop
button.
Audio description may be enabled, but no way to stop the video that I have
found.
Thanks.

RE: Some Interesting VoiceOver Accessibility Facts About the Spectrum Cable Service, It's getting Better and Better

2019-07-15 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Mike,

The Spectrum Mobile app is for managing your Spectrum account; for example,
seeing your account balance, adding or removing services, scheduling house
calls, etc.

The Spectrum TV app is for actually enjoying the content of your subscription.

RE: Okay, It's Official, Mark Loves His iPad Pro

2019-07-15 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Arlene,

I think your questions have been answered but, as I am getting a little
confused as to who has answered, what, I'm just going to reply.

The Apple Smart Keyboard is an extremely thin hardware keyboard that acts as a
cover for iPad. This is to say, when it is placed on top of the display, the
display turns off and the iPad locks.

Also, unlike a, quote, standard hardware Bluetooth keyboard, quote, it does not
need to be charged, as there is no battery nor does it need to be paired to
iPad in order to function. The actual keyboard configuration mirrors that of a
MacBook Air.

Mark, There's nothing like, over amount of time, finding how well something is
so useful and meets your needs, in this case your ipad. Also pointing out that
your ipad and smart keyboard is in addition to your other technology, your
phone and other computers. in other words you're not putting all your eggs in
one basket. I have some questions, What is lte?
could you tell a little more about the smart keyboard, is it different from a
bluetooth keyboard? Does it work differently than a bluetooth keyboard?
Also would a smart keyboard be accessible for someone that relies on voice over
that has no vision? Some of these questions may seem silly to ask, but since I
don't have the answers, it's best to ask. What a treasure for you finding out
all that you can do between your ipad and smart keyboard. Thank you for sharing.

RE: is there anyway of practicing typing on the iPhone?

2019-07-15 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Joshua,

I laud your efforts to practice on screen typing on your iPhone but you need to
tweak your settings so you don't need to provide your Apple ID password every
time you wish to acquire an app from the Apps Store. To do this:

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone's main screen. Even though this
feels like screen page 1, it is actually page 2 in the iOS world.

2. Double tap the Settings button or icon to open it.

3. Single finger swipe right through the various vertically stacked
setting options until Touch ID and Passcode has focus and then double tap to
open it.

4. An on screen numeric keypad opens in about the bottom third of the
screen where you will have to enter your passcode assuming you've set one up.

5. At the top of the screen that opens is a heading labeled Use Touch ID
for several items including iPhone Unlock and iTunes and Apps Store. I would
strongly recommend that you turn both the unlock iPhone and iTunes and Apps
Store switches on so that you can use Touch ID to both unlock your phone and to
acquire apps without needing to provide your Apple ID password.

Granted, if you've not yet set up Touch ID, this settings screen is where you
will have to provide your fingerprint in order to set this up. The process is
Voiceover friendly and straightforward.

Once you've set this up, when you attempt to acquire an app in the Apps Store
whether it costs or not, you should be able to place the applicable finger on
your home button to approve the acquisition.

I hope this helps and please let us know how you fare with the process.

Hi to all. I am kind of enjoying my iPhone. It is very cool when connected to
WIFI to be able to get a new siri voice or voiceover voice. However, I am not
able to get any apps because of me having to type in my apple ID and password.
I can type on the phone after a fashion, but it is very slow. I also don't
want to incorrectly type in my aapple ID password to many times in case I lock
my phone again.

That wasn't fun. Is there any way I can practice typing on the phone without
actually doing anything like starting an already installed app. My typing mode
on my phone will remain the standard voiceover method for now because I tried
touch typing mode and it really messed me up. Once I get some apps on my
phone, I'll be in business. I don't plan on using my phone for any kind of
email checking. Thanks for any help.

Hello,
LTE means that the tablet has the option to have cellular connectivity.
The smart keyboard does not use bluetooth. On some of the newer iPad
models there is a smart connector. This is what the smart keyboard uses to
connect to the iPad.

What I am discovering is that I enjoy the fusion of the hardware keyboard

I agree for the most part with all of the assertions and observations that have
been made regarding this app.
However, I am experiencing something in the Guide, which I am wondering if
anyone else is having the same issue.
Select the Guide Tab, tap on any station, and then tap Network Schedule.
I am hearing the following:
Time: Name of show.
Time: Name of show.
In other words, the time of day for airing of the program is not announced,
only the word "time."
Now, if you decide to record the show, then the start and end times are
announced, but that is a bit inconvenient.
Otherwise, the app is quite useable and accessible.
Thanks.

it works fine on the IPhone. Also, on the IPhone you can't set up a series
recording, but you can on the ATV. I have reported these .. but the more that
do . the faster they might fix ..

Hello Jim,

I just followed your steps and got the same VoiceOver results.

Please join me in reporting this bug to Spectrum via the feedback tool, located
in the Settings area of the app and via an app review in the App Store.

Thank you,

Thanks.

Subject: Some Interesting VoiceOver Accessibility Facts About the Spectrum
Cable Service, It's getting Better and Better

This is for all of you who subscribe to Spectrum Cable. I realize that
Spectrum is a Canadian company but I can only report my experience here in the
U.S.

1.
The Spectrum Mobile for iOS app appears to be 100% VoiceOver accessible.
This is to say, I have yet to discover any area of the app that does not work
with VoiceOver.

2.
The Spectrum TV app, for iOS, appears to be 100% VoiceOver accessible, also.
In fact, I have been using it for several days, now, and am amazed at how well
it works with VoiceOver. I have installed it on both iPhone and iPad and both
experiences are marvelous.

3.
Did you know that any Spectrum subscriber can add upto 5 limited users to his
account? In order to access various features to which the primary member is
subscribed? For no additional costs.

So, for example, if you are subscribed to Spectrum for your television cable
service, not only can you install the Spectrum TV app on all of your devices so
that you can enjoy all of your allowed stations, from within your home and a
subset of those stations when a way from home, you can authorize up to
5 limited users to have access to that same channel line-up on their mobile
devices, as well, on their respective mobile devices. I say limited because
these users cannot access your actual account in terms of receiving bills,
seeing your account number, etc. They can only see the items that you allow
them to see. I am using the TV tool, as merely an example. Each of your
authorized limited users will have her own login user ID and Password, separate
and distinct from your own. You can change their account access permissions or
remove them from your account at any time, at which point the Spectrum TV app
and any of its related features will be immediately disabled.

The best part is that the entire process of creating and managing users, is
completely VoiceOver accessible in Safari for iOS.

Now I stipulate Safari because the more advanced features of Spectrum account
management can only be accomplished via a web browser, not the mobile app. The
app, to dayte, simply does not allow for such advanced account management.

So if you are a Spectrum Cable subscriber, and you have not yet done so, create
your Spectrum online account, sign in, download, and enjoy.

Cannot connect to iCloud error. Need help.

2019-07-15 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi List,

Since last night, I've been attempting to go into Settings, Apple ID, and
access my Passwords and Security setting to check something and I'm getting
a "Cannot connect to iCloud" error message whenever I do this. I use the
Tunnel Bear VPN service and have written them about this issue but wanted to
also question the folks on this list. I'm accessing my settings from my home
trusted network so in my opinion, the VPN service should not be interfering.
However, I've been unable to access iCloud for several hours.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I'm not a fan of resetting all my
network settings or in uninstalling my Tunnel Bear app but realize I have to
be able to connect to iCloud so am willing to trial and error your
suggestions. I plan to call Apple Accessibility shortly.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Alan Lemly

  Hi Kay,

I don’t remember the command but I know I have seen a reset command for
the SoundWare. Bose tech support should be able to provide it for you.

On the iPhone side, you can go to Bluetooth and choose the more option
after SoundWare and tell the phone to forget the device.

Re: Okay, It's Official, Mark Loves His iPad Pro

2019-07-15 Thread Greg Wocher
Hello,
LTE means that the tablet has the option to have cellular connectivity. The
smart keyboard does not use bluetooth. On some of the newer iPad models there
is a smart connector. This is what the smart keyboard uses to connect to the
iPad.

Subject: Okay, It's Official, Mark Loves His iPad Pro

Hello All,

Okay, it's official, I absolutely love my iPad Pro. I have owned it almost
five months, now, and find that I am using it more and more, each day. I am
certain that my new found appreciation of the tablet has to do with the
Apple Smart Keyboard, an accessory that makes iPad feel more like a moble
desktop than a tablet.

For example, I now manage all of the administrative functions of this group
on my iPad where as I used to only manage it via my PC. Simply put, the
experience is better on iPad than on a desktop; iPhone is simply too small
and there is the issue of not having an easily accessible hardware keyboard

I have decided not to install any financial / money management apps on it
because the iPhone works just fine and I do anticipate using iPad on a
public Wi-Fi sooner or later, assuming I do not activate LTE or make use of
my tethering option.

Just thought I would post this for those of you who may be considering iPad.
If you do decide to move forward with a purchase, I cannot stress enough the
important, in my opinion, of also buying, if not the Apple Smart Keyboard,
then at least an iPad-compatible BlueTooth Keyboard.

In the Journey,

Mark

Re: bluetooth on the Bose sound wear

2019-07-15 Thread Robert Carter
Hi Kay,

I don’t remember the command but I know I have seen a reset command for the
SoundWare. Bose tech support should be able to provide it for you.

On the iPhone side, you can go to Bluetooth and choose the more option after
SoundWare and tell the phone to forget the device.

RE: Some Interesting VoiceOver Accessibility Facts About the Spectrum Cable Service, It's getting Better and Better

2019-07-15 Thread pdllogan77

Even when you enable the video controls, there seems to be no pause or Stop
button.
Audio description may be enabled, but no way to stop the video that I have
found.
Thanks.

Does the two finger double tap work? This works for me in the direct tv app
during streaming audio.

Re: Okay, It's Official, Mark Loves His iPad Pro

2019-07-15 Thread Arlene
Mark, There's nothing like, over amount of time, finding how well something
is so useful and meets your needs, in this case your ipad. Also pointing out
that your ipad and smart keyboard is in addition to your other technology,
your phone and other computers. in other words you're not putting all your
eggs in one basket. I have some questions,

What is lte?
could you tell a little more about the smart keyboard, is it different from
a bluetooth keyboard? Does it work differently than a bluetooth keyboard?
Also would a smart keyboard be accessible for someone that relies on voice
over that has no vision? Some of these questions may seem silly to ask, but
since I don't have the answers, it's best to ask. What a treasure for you
finding out all that you can do between your ipad and smart keyboard. Thank
you for sharing.

Subject: Okay, It's Official, Mark Loves His iPad Pro

Hello All,

Okay, it's official, I absolutely love my iPad Pro.

Just thought I would post this for those of you who may be considering
iPad.
If you do decide to move forward with a purchase, I cannot stress enough
the

important, in my opinion, of also buying, if not the Apple Smart Keyboard,
then at least an iPad-compatible BlueTooth Keyboard.

In the Journey,

Mark

Cable Service, It's getting Better and Better

This is for all of you who subscribe to Spectrum Cable. I realize that
Spectrum is a Canadian company but I can only report my experience here in
the U.S.

1.
The Spectrum Mobile for iOS app appears to be 100% VoiceOver accessible.
This is to say, I have yet to discover any area of the app that does not
work with VoiceOver.

2.
The Spectrum TV app, for iOS, appears to be 100% VoiceOver accessible,
also.
In fact, I have been using it for several days, now, and am amazed at how
well it works with VoiceOver. I have installed it on both iPhone and iPad
and both experiences are marvelous.

3.
Did you know that any Spectrum subscriber can add upto 5 limited users to
his account? In order to access various features to which the primary
member is subscribed? For no additional costs.

So, for example, if you are subscribed to Spectrum for your television
cable service, not only can you install the Spectrum TV app on all of your
devices so that you can enjoy all of your allowed stations, from within
your home and a subset of those stations when a way from home, you can
authorize up to
5 limited users to have access to that same channel line-up on their
mobile devices, as well, on their respective mobile devices. I say
limited because these users cannot access your actual account in terms of
receiving bills, seeing your account number, etc. They can only see the
items that you allow them to see. I am using the TV tool, as merely an
example. Each of your authorized limited users will have her own login
user ID and Password, separate and distinct from your own. You can change
their account access permissions or remove them from your account at any
time, at which point the Spectrum TV app and any of its related features
will be immediately disabled.

The best part is that the entire process of creating and managing users,
is completely VoiceOver accessible in Safari for iOS.

Hi Fanus,

It’s pretty much a self-explanatory, guided setup process. Here is an article
from a Google Blog:

When your hands are full hosting a party with family and friends, or when
you’re just chilling at home, your Google Assistant can help you find your
favorite playlist, skip to the next song or turn up the volume. Today, we’re
bringing the Assistant to your Sonos system so that you can easily play music
on any speaker in your house. Plus, you'll get all the usual help from the
Assistant to better manage your day, like traffic to work or your next
appointment. With this software update, you can activate the Assistant on your
Sonos One and Sonos Beam, or control any other Sonos product from a Google
Assistant-enabled device, such as your phone, a smart speaker, or a Smart
Display.

Here are a few things you can do with the Google Assistant on Sonos:

Listen to some tunes. Or news. Or podcasts: While you’re able to play music
from all the services the Assistant already supports—including YouTube Music,
Pandora, and Spotify—you can also use the Assistant to skip to the next track,
pause the music and change volume from the 100+ music services already
available on Sonos. It’s also easy to catch up on the latest episode of your
favorite podcast just by asking the Assistant.

Enjoy entertainment: With the Google Assistant on Sonos Beam and a
Chromecast-enabled TV, you can turn on the TV, switch from music to TV, and
adjust the volume. You can also stream videos from popular services.

Plan your day: Get help with things like your flight information, or traffic on
your commute to work.

Manage tasks: Set alarms and timers, pull up your calendar appointments, or add
items to your shopping list.

Get answers: Ask all your questions on sports, weather, calculations,
translations and more.

Control your home: Ask your Assistant on your speakers to adjust the
temperature, lighting, and other smart home devices connected in your home.

Get started with the Assistant on your Sonos speaker or soundbar

If you already own a Sonos One or Sonos Beam, it’s easy to set up the
Assistant. Your speaker and soundbar will automatically receive a software
update introducing the Google Assistant as a voice assistant option. Do the
following to add Google Assistant to your Sonos speakers:

1. Go to "Voice Services" in the Sonos app under Settings

2. Select Google Assistant

3. Follow the guided setup process

We’re starting in the U.S. and then will expand support to the UK, Germany,
Canada, Australia, France, The Netherlands and more over the coming months.

And here is a link to the Sonos support article about this:

Set up the Google
Assistant with a Sonos One or Beam

I guess you have to check if this is already available in South Africa.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Hi Sonos fans,

I haven’t seen anything posted yet, but just in case you didn’t know, if you
own a Sonos One, Sonos Beam soundbar or Sonos, then you can now set it up to
either use Alexa or the Google Assistant. Obviously the Google Assistant has
its advantages in terms of knowing much more than Alexa when it comes to
general questions, asking for phone numbers for businesses, making calls etc.,
but Alexa also has advantages since Audible is supported and so on.
Unfortunately so far you do have to choose between the 2, you can change it
from time to time but they are not yet both supported simultaneously although I
believe it is Sonos’ goal to achieve this.

We currently have our Sonos One stereo set in the kitchen set up for Google
Assistant and our Sonos One stereo pair in the bathroom for Alexa. It’s nice to
have Google in the kitchen since it’s much easier to ask for reccipes, the
integration with our new GE cook stove works better and certain other of our
home automation also seems to work better on the Google Assistant.

Best regards,

Sieghard
