Then I'd probably be using my BNT instead of my iPhone. The big advantage to a
qwerty is it's much lower cost. On Jan 22, 2020 9:39 PM, Robin

RE: Apple's AirPods-AirPod PROs & AppleWatch

2020-01-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you pair Airpods or another Bluetooth earpiece or headset with an Apple
Watch all audio including Voiceover comes through the headset.
As for checking time discretely, you can already do this by double tapping with
1 finger on your Apple Watch screen when the watch is locked, the time will be
given in vibrations.

Is it Possible to Have "The Audio" from Apple's AppleWatch Go Through its

What I'm askin' is For "The Ability" to simply Check "The Time"

RE: Bluetooth keyboard

2020-01-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The Logitech K780, it has a numeric pad, but it's still a bit more compact
compared to a full-size PC keyboard because it doesn't have the large gap
between the keyboard and the numeric pad with the 6-pack and inverted T arrow
keys, it does have the inverted T arrow keys, but They are sort of underneath
the right shift key.
As most Logitech keyboards you can pair up to 3 devices with it and apart from
Bluetooth connectivity it also comes with a USB dongle (it's inside the battery
compartment) so you can use it with any PC whether it has Bluetooth or not, I
prefer to use it with the USB dongle even with my laptop which has Bluetooth
simply because there is always a slightly longer delay when you connect via
Bluetooth, it's much more responsive with the USB dongle.

Re: Bluetooth keyboard

2020-01-22 Thread Richard Turner
I'm a fan of the logitech k480 which uses two triple a batteries instead of
being rechargeable. The batteries last a very, very long time.
It is a little big for some people.
I believe the k380 has the same basic features, but is a slimmer model.
They can both be paired with up to 3 devices.

RE: Seeking Software For Creating iPhone Ring Tones

2020-01-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You don’t need special software, you can do this with iTunes. Below is a link
explaining the process:

Creating iPhone ringtones – Tom’s
Guide

My only comment is that the information about ringtones having a 30 second max
playtime is wrong, they can be up to 40 seconds, I usually make mine anywhere
from 35 to 39 seconds just to be on the safe side.. If you are starting at the
beginning of a song it’s of course easy, you just put in the start time as 0:00
and the end time as 0:39

Sieghard

RE: Setting up iPhone 11 from iPhone 6S Plus with Quick Setup

2020-01-22 Thread Carolyn
Goodness, it only took a few minutes for my SE to be loaded onto my 11. I took
it to Wal-Mart. Jim might have been able to have done it, and I could have
stayed with Consumer Cellular and not moved to AT,would have paid more for
the phone, less for the line. I also wanted Seeing A I downloaded, and we
didn't know enough to try that ourselves. The guy at Wal-Mart had no problem
with any of it, and my Home Page even lined up like I had it with Contacts,
Weather, Reminders down the top left. Something definitely is not right - five
hours, that's absurd!

The Wal-Mart guy kept VoiceOver on most of the time, got me to enter my Apple
Pass Code. It was a good experience.

I'm so sorry for your mother's problem. It sounds like she needs a store. I
realize that can be a problem. There is no Consumer Cellular store in our town.
I really hated to leave them, but realized that we really needed to get a guy
at the store to do it.

Subject: Setting up iPhone 11 from iPhone 6S Plus with Quick Setup

So, here is the scenario:

My mother has an iPhone 6S Plus and she recently bought an iPhone 11.

Today I spoke with her on the phone to help her set it up.

I recently bought an iPad Air for my business and used my iPhone 8 and the
quick setup option, after I scanned the barcode on the iPad with my phone it
took a very short time for the setup to complete, I had to enter the passcode I
used on my iPhone and after that the iPad configured itself, it automatically
connected to my WiFi and so on.

When it was done it asked if I wanted to restore a backup or set up as a new
device and I chose to set up the iPad as a new device.

I did not notice that any apps got transferred via the quick setup, when I just
looked all my photos from my iPhone are also on the iPad, but I am not sure if
this happened via the quick setup or whether they simply downloaded because I
have iCloud Photo Library and Photostream turned on.

Anyways, here my question: if others have used this quick connect or quick
setup feature where you bring your new phone close to your old one and then
scan the code, how long did it take?

On my Mom’s new iPhone 11 it said after she scanned the code that it was
setting up and this could take several minutes, but it’s been saying this now
for the last 5 or so hours.

She says there still is a little wheel that is spinning as if it’s doing stuff,
but it just goes on and on.

I even called Apple Accessibility, but the guy I spoke with couldn’t really
give me an answer. I Know you have to have Bluetooth on for this to work, but
what I don’t know is what actually gets transferred and if, for example, all
photos which potentially could be several Gigabytes of data, get transferred
via Bluetooth to Bluetooth then this could of course take a long time. But why
would Apple then say “this can take several minutes”, they should “this can
take 8 hours”.

Regards,

Sieghard

RE: Setting up iPhone 11 from iPhone 6S Plus with Quick Setup

2020-01-22 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
It sounds like your mom’s process got stuck at this point.

Having done this with my XR in 2018 and my wife’s Pro Max last year, indeed, it
took a few minutes. Don’t recall how long exactly, but certainly not hours.

You’re probably best off looking into killing the process and starting over.

With my in-laws being on the other side of the world and not the most
technoligy inclined, we’ve eexperienced similar long distance trouble shooting
issues. We’ve been trying to convince my mother-in-law to finally upgrade her
iPad Air secodn generation that we got her years ago. It’s starting to get
buggy. She’s been reluctant to do so due to concerns of losing photos and apps
etc.

The worst thing that can happen is that you just initiate the set up process
again since you’ll still have the original device.

My wife had a 6 plus and I purchase her an 11. It only took a couple minutes to

was downloading things in the background. I don’t know how long this took but I
don’t think it was five hours but then my wife does not have as many pictures
as your mom had.

When I did this, it didn’t take more than a half hour.

But her phone is much older than mine was and I wonder if the slower processor
impacts this. Still, I wouldn’t think it should take hours like this.

looked all my photos from my iPhone are also on the iPad, but I am not sure if
this happened via the quick setup or whether they simply downloaded because I
have iCloud Photo Library and Photostream turned on.

Regards,

Sieghard

Setting up iPhone 11 from iPhone 6S Plus with Quick Setup

2020-01-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Reposting: Here is a Very Good AirPrint Laser Printer that I am Now Recommending

2020-01-22 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

As I have received several off-list requests for the information regarding
the HP laser printer mentioned in a previous thread, I have decided to
repost the info here, in a new thread.

Mark

Original Post:
Subject: Here is a Very Good AirPrint Laser Printer that I am Now
Recommending

Hello All,

I purchased the HP LaserJet Pro M15w Wireless Laser Printer (W2G51A) from
Amazon and I absolutely love it.

It has all of the features I require including the ability to insert
standard mailing envelopes into the sheet feeder as a custom slot.

In order to use this printer, as an AirPrint, printer, you must download the
free HP Smart app, once. You use the app to configure the printer for use
on your network. This is to say, the app facilitates the ability to enter
your network password, etc. As I said, you only need to do this once as,
once done, all Apple devices can see the printer on the network and you may
print to your heart's content. The app is 100% VoiceOver accessible.

The printer is the tiniest laser printer I've ever seen. It uses a
mini-toner cartridge so it's perfect as a portable laser printer.

Oh, this is not a color laser.

Even when printing photos, it takes less than 10 seconds for the unit to
start printing. When printing documents, the unit begins printing almost
immediately. Of course, this is my experience, your milage may vary.

>From what I can tell, most of the negative reviews about the unit, on
Amazon, come from Windows users.

To be clear, you do not need to install any HP software on any of your Apple
devices in order to use the printer, save the HP Smart app, on one device,
to configure the unit. For you more advanced users, the printer has its own
web server so you can log directly into the unit via a web browser, should
you wish.

Although the unit ships with a USB cable, for use with Apple devices, it is
not necessary.

Now, in full disclosure, I have not used the printer with a Windows device.
>From what I can tell, the process of configuring the unit is more
complicated on Windows but I cannot speak to that.

The printer costs approximately $110.00 USD.

As for unpacking the unit, it would probably be best to have a sighted
person handy as un-taping the various parts could be challenging for an
inexperienced user. The only assembly is to unpack the toner cartridge and
preparing it for installation.

There are only 3 hardware buttons on the unit that are flush with the
surface but one can certainly put tape on them to mark their location.
Also, the unit makes a definite sound when plugged into the wall so there
can be no doubt as to when the unit is powered up.

Okay, here is the URL for the printer on Amazon.

Why can't Voice Dream Reader access document headings?

2020-01-22 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi List,

I'm being diligent to add navigable headings to any help documents I write.
I also recently edited the covenants document of my homeowners association
to add headings to it using Microsoft Word. I then saved that document in
both docx and html formats and imported it into the latest version of Voice
Dream Reader. However, even though Voice Dream Reader has a button near the
bottom of an open document titled Headings, Bookmarks and Highlights, the
heading choice is always dimmed when I open a document containing headings.
What sort of headings is Voice Dream looking for and can anyone tell me how
I can get this to work? I'm not used to documents loaded into Voice Dream
Reader being less accessible than loading them into the reader built into
the Dropbox app.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It's also great since it combines calendar and reminder so you can keep track

Hi Fanus,

"Import Sim Contacts to Account" under this you are getting two options one is
gmail and other is iphone. Let me explain both of these one by one for you.
Hope this helps!

For Gmail:

Your sim card contacts will be imported to your gmail account that you have
signed in with on you iphone.

On your iphone:

Your sim card contacts will be imported to your iphone local memory.

Personally I would like to suggest import your contacts to the gmail, because
then they will be available to you globally. Best part is if you change your
phone in near future to get all these contacts you just have to sign in with
the same gmail accounts and all the contacts will be synchronized to that
device automatically.

another one of those iOS 13.x bugs that has yet to be resolved.

Hi List,

to read using the Dropbox app. I'm not sure what is causing this since
the document is entirely in English but certain of the headings are
being read with another language accent or maybe in another language
entirely. I suspect it has something to do with the document
formatting but I figure if I turn off a setting to detect foreign
language, it should correct the problem. I had to do something
similarly with JAWS so it would read this document correctly on my
computer.

I know there are several multi-lingual users on this list who have
posted about issues with reading multiple languages on your iDevices
so I'm hoping one of you can direct me to the proper setting. All my
stuff is in English so I don't need any language detection.

Thanks in advance.

Re: What do these two options mean

2020-01-22 Thread PRAMIT BHARGAVA
Hi Fanus,

"Import Sim Contacts to Account" under this you are getting two options one
is gmail and other is iphone. Let me explain both of these one by one for
you. Hope this helps!
For Gmail:
Your sim card contacts will be imported to your gmail account that you have
signed in with on you iphone.
On your iphone:
Your sim card contacts will be imported to your iphone local memory.

Personally I would like to suggest import your contacts to the gmail,
because then they will be available to you globally. Best part is if you
change your phone in near future to get all these contacts you just have to
sign in with the same gmail accounts and all the contacts will be
synchronized to that device automatically.

This means that the contacts you have stored on your sim card will
either be imported into the contacts stored locally on your phone or
imported into your Google contacts and therefore available to multiple
devices. I keep all of my contacts in Google contacts so I can have them
available on my PC, my Android devices and my iPhone.

hi michael,

thx for the suggestion but that's the app I am using already.
however, there are some limitations i see but perrhaps is this inpossible for
any client calendar service.
what i subscribed below, i can't that make with the predefined choices in the
custom repetition.

if it's also possible

to make repetitions with the language with words in the subjectfield, it would
be nice to know how it works.

kind regards, william windelsMvg

RE: help with apple watch issue

2020-01-22 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi gary,

No my HR sits around mid 70s when at rest,

Depending on how hard I’m training I can have it up to 140 BPM plus / minus.

When walking I’m normally around the 95 to 110 BPM mark,

But I’ll try that auto pause a go.

The only time I stop when walking is at street crossings mainly because they
are controlled.

Cycling it’s a stationary bike,

But thanks I’ll give this a go.

Hi simon,

Yes, I have come across this on my series 4. Whilst it may be a software issue
there are also a couple of other points to bear in mind.

Firstly if you have auto pause enabled on your workouts if the watch thinks
your heart rate has dropped below what it judges to be a work out heart rate
it will auto pause the workout session, resuming once your heart rate
increases. So if you are fit or have a naturally low heart rate you can find the
watch pausing your walking workout (and resuming it etc).

Unfortunately the watch doesn't yet have a method for setting your own
"workout" heart rate so it does get it wrong sometimes, try turning off the
auto pause function. Unfortunately this also means you probably won't get the
"It looks as if you are working out" auto workout start prompt.

Morning all,

I have a question re workouts on an apple watch Series 4,

I use my apple watch workout daily,
The main work out is the outdoor walk

What I’m finding is that what I see in the activity report which is kilojoules
 (movement), exercise (minutes moving),
And standing,

I’ve noticed over the passed few months that the exercise or movement time
recording doesn’t meet with what the outdoor walk in this case workout report.

Tonight I walked for 35 minutes on the workout,
After walking 25 minutes to work this morning and again on my walk home so
approx. 1.5 hours of walking,

Yet my exercise activity app on the watch records only 16 minutes,

I want to know if anyone else has noticed such a thing and if so what they did?

Note this is an apple watch sport series 4,
Running Watch OS 6.1.1

And sincs to my iphone 11 pro max running the latest Ios version.
Not that it should matter but all are space grey.

Cheers for any information people might be able to assist with.

Cheers,
