Re: How Do You Search for a Particular Email Using the iPhone?

2020-02-05 Thread PRAMIT BHARGAVA
Hi Shirley,

To search for a particular message from a person, can be achieved either
through the email address or through the text in the email.

1. Open your email Inbox
2. Search field is at top, if not simply swipe down from middle of screen
to reveal search field.
3. Put in the email address or the text in the email and the results will
pop up.
4. Select the one you're looking for.

Hope this helps!

Re: How Do I Add an Emergency Contact?

2020-02-05 Thread Mike B.
Hi Richard,

I looked in the Emergency App and didn't have anyone listed. I then went
into the Health app and I added my sister as an emergency contact. I then
did a search and found these 2 ways of removing emergency contacts.

Featured snippet from the web
I modified the original steps for using the gestures way of navigating.
Remove emergency contacts
list of 5 items
1. Open the Health app and go to the Profile button / your picture in the
top right corner & single finger double tap.
2. Swipe to, Medical ID, & single finger double tap.
3. Single finger double tap the, Edit button, then swipe several times to
the Emergency Contacts, heading.
4. Swipe to the right to the contacts list, now find a contact you want to
remove and swipe down with 1 finger to the, Delete button, and do a single
finger double tap to remove.
5. Tap Done to save your changes.
list end

Another set of steps, not modified for gesture navigation:
How To Remove An Emergency Contact On An iPhone
list of 6 items
1. Open the Health app.
2. Tap the your account icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
3. Tap Medical ID.
4. Tap Edit in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
5. Tap the red minus next to the emergency contact you'd like to remove.
6. Tap Delete.
list end

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

I'd start with opening settings, go to Emergency SOS, and the ones you have
in there will be toward the bottom of that screen.
You can delete them there I think.
You can hit the edit emergency contacts in the health app and it should take
you to the health app. Then it seems a little convoluted as to how you get
to them exactly.
I'll explore a bit more.

From your contact, double tap on add to emergency contacts.
If they have more than one number, you will need to pick the phone number
you want to use.
Then, pick the relationship, relative, friend, spouse, etc.
Once you double tap on the relationship, you will be back in the contact
and that person is now added to your emergency contacts, so you can close
the contact and you are done.

RE: Wireless charging stand question

2020-02-05 Thread James Bentley
Hi,

OK, I'll wait to see if Apple comes out with the S E or what ever they call it.
A faster processor and more future proofing is always better.

I've red a few rumors about what I will just call the S E. Its suppose to have
an A13 chip and be the same size as the iPhone 8. I hope it has two speakers.

I don't know how tough it will be with all of that glass but I would put it in
a decent case.

Based on Carolyn's positive discription of her wireless charger, I am pretty
sure that that is what I will eventually use.

I can't wait to get my hands on this phone . But, I guess I will have to.

Thanks to all,

James B

James,

I don't think fast charging has much of an impact on battery life, but Apple
uses a different fast charging standard than most others.
Carolyn recently upgraded from the original SE to an iPhone 11, if you plan to
upgrade in a few months when the SE 2 or whatever they will call it has been
released, it will definitely be compatible with wireless charging.
I would highly recommend whatever that new SE will be over the now over 2-year
old iPhone 8, it will be much the same form factor, but most likely it will
have the latest A13 chip or at least it will have the A12 and it will be more
future proof than the iPhone 8 and most likely it will also have better battery
life.

Hi Carolyn,

May I ask you which phone you have.

I am looking at buying an iPhone 8 or the new S E in a few months.

I'm wanting a small phone. I hope that the S E doesn't have a glass back. If
that's what I wind up with. But, if I get an iPhone 8 it would support
wireless charging. Then, I would want to go ahead and try that charger.

Does your charger have a lip around the edge so that the phone can't slide off
too easy? And, I am guessing that a slower charge will be less wear and tear
on the battery.

How much is the running cost? When I bought mine, there was a "10," and a "5,"
according to the Wal-Mart guy. The 10 was $29.99 and the 5 $19.99. I chose the
5. It is slow, but gets the job done. My husband and I thought slower could be
better than fast in terms of the battery. It is maybe a quarter inch or less
than the width of my phone and round. Are all of them round?

Well, let’s see and, what’s more, if their pad costs twice as much as most
other brand name pads out there. I have a Mophie pad which is about a quarter
inch wider than the iPhone on each side so I’m not sure how much smaller you
can make a charging pad, I personally wouldn’t want one where the slightest
bump means the phone tips off.

There is also a company called Ampere which makes some amazing travel chargers
with space for charging two iPhones and an Apple Watch or an iPhone, Apple
Watch and Airpods.

The Qi quick charging standard is 10watts (if memory serves) so all
other things being equal yes. But there are fiddly bits (the USB standard
didn't really intend for such high rates (more like 1.5amps) so the wall
transformer, the cable and the charger really all need to cooperate to get best
performance.

Personally, I don't worry about the fastest charging ... between my bed
and desks, there's plenty of time for inductive charging (and when bicycling, I
use a cable and portable battery).

RE: Wireless charging stand question

2020-02-05 Thread Carolyn
I have an 11 now, and it is in a case, but, James, the wireless charger is
magnetized. The phone sort of sticks to it. It does not sit high off the table
at all, maybe half an inch. It seems quite sturdy and stable. As I said, I paid
$19.99 for it at Wal-Mart, and it has been worth every penny to me. I keep a
charger in my purse, so that if I'm gone from home for longer than I expect to
be, I still can charge my phone.

The charger is round, maybe the size of a great big can of greens. So,
lengthwise, my phone extends outward from the device. Crossways, though, there
is maybe a quarter inch or less on each side of the phone. It is very secure,
with no suggestion that it would fall or get off kilter. I didn't have to have
any help, just inserted the cable, got a charger for it, since it had a USB,
connected the thing, and it just works, that's all I can say.

I am looking at buying an iPhone 8 or the new S E in a few months.

Does your charger have a lip around the edge so that the phone can't slide off

I would highly recommend whatever that new SE will be over the now over 2-year
old iPhone 8, it will be much the same form factor, but most likely it will
have the latest A13 chip or at least it will have the A12 and it will be more
future proof than the iPhone 8 and most likely it will also have better battery
life.

There is an old podcast on AppleVis, but enough has changed that I will find a
walk-through that I had done when version 4 was in beta and see if I cannot
update it, or at least do a basic audio overview.
The Voice Dream web site has lots of text information, but without the audio it
would be hard to decide from the manual and the feature lists.
Stay tuned.

Most of these wireless chargers will work with any appropriate
USB power input. Obviously, if it's a fast charger it needs higher amps than
slow charging (so look at the specifications for the wireless unit (power input
requirement) and ideally match or exceed that with the power output of your

more generously proportioned. But even if you get it "wrong" it will generally

2020-02-05 Thread Carolyn

Hi Fanus,

You should take this up with your provider. Also I would recommend you do a

Subject: iPad mini 5 won't load apps problem solved but

Hello list
I managed to get a lift back to the iStore and guess what, the moment the
assistant connected my Ipad mini 5 to their wifi all the native apps downloaded
and installed. Now remember, with my wifi I could download third party apps
like Audible, Kindle etc. and on my pc I can serve the net, download stuff and
read new emails. So the funny thing: what setting or hardware aspect of my
cellular wifi router prevents the native apps on the iPad to download and
install. The guy at the iStore had no idea. Can one of the experts on the list
think of a reason. I would like to know so that I can change my wifi settings
or at least advise future users just to try a different network. I did insert
the sim card into another router so the network provider is the same but the
problem stayed. Well, at least my trip to the iStore was worth while so that I
can now use my Ipad mini 5.
Regards and thanks for all the suggestions and assistance offered.

Re: Text Selection in Rotor

2020-02-05 Thread Shirley Baker
Do you think you might get text selection by double tapping on edit and then
turn your rotor to text selection? Seems like this issue came up before and
someone suggested double tapping on edit.

2020-02-05 Thread Richard Turner
Yes, it should work in text messages, email, on the web in any browser, etc.
Have you called Apple support? 877-204-3930
Maybe if they did a screen share with you they could see what is happening as
you turn the rotor.

Can't seem to locate some radio stations on Triode?

2020-02-05 Thread Gerardo Corripio
I'm really enjoying the new radio app, put together by the Twitterrific folk,
Triode I think it's called, but I can't seem to locate some radio stations on
it, like Houston's Sunny 99.1, when other Houston stations are on there! I
wonder then, with whom is triode associated for the radio stations, or is it
like Window's Tapin Radio, in which you can request for stations to be added?

iPad mini 5 won't load apps problem solved but ....

2020-02-05 Thread Fanus Buys
Hello list
I managed to get a lift back to the iStore and guess what, the moment the
assistant connected my Ipad mini 5 to their wifi all the native apps
downloaded and installed. Now remember, with my wifi I could download third
party apps like Audible, Kindle etc. and on my pc I can serve the net,
download stuff and read new emails. So the funny thing: what setting or
hardware aspect of my cellular wifi router prevents the native apps on the
iPad to download and install. The guy at the iStore had no idea. Can one of
the experts on the list think of a reason. I would like to know so that I
can change my wifi settings or at least advise future users just to try a
different network. I did insert the sim card into another router so the
network provider is the same but the problem stayed. Well, at least my trip
to the iStore was worth while so that I can now use my Ipad mini 5.
Regards and thanks for all the suggestions and assistance offered.
Fanus

Most of these wireless chargers will work with any appropriate USB power input.
Obviously, if it's a fast charger it needs higher amps than slow charging (so
look at the specifications for the wireless unit (power input requirement) and
ideally match or exceed that with the power output of your wall unit. Some
iphones have shipped with relatively wimpy chargers, others more generously
proportioned. But even if you get it "wrong" it will generally just result in
slower charging, not a failure to charge.
