Actually this is now not true,

The pods do switch automatically
This has been problematic but is now working

Although isn't perfect it is working now.

Hi Sieghard and all,
Yes, I need a wireless headset that can be instantly and seamlesly switched
between my Iphone and Apple watch.
When I checked and compared prices of Plantronics and airpods, the airpods cost
about 30 euros more than Plantronics here in Slovakia, to not decided yet which
model I am going to buy.
Please, Are there any other models available that has this feature?
Thanks in advance.

I think Simon is steering you in the right direction. You don't want the Airpod
Pros but the Airpods, as Simon describes below. You asked if you can use them
while they're in the charging case, and the answer is no you cannot. You cannot
place them in your ear while they're in the charging case, and when you place
the Airpods in the charging case the Bluetooth connection is shutdown.

Although if you have the echo devices and the older sonos play 1 etc series of
sonos speakers then amazons echos don’t seem mto work with them,

Lthe new sonos 1 and newer models have alexa built in which helps a lot.

Subject: RE: Question re Apple Home Pod

No point in spending lots of money for a Homepod for this, you can buy an
Amazon Echo Dot or any other Amazon echo speaker for this.
The Dot costs $54.99 in Canada and it's currently on sale for $49.99, but you
can get it often for even less if there are larger sale events like Prime Day
which I believe is coming up, Black Friday etc.
I have Sonos speakers all over the house and if I want, for example, to play a
particular song or artist on my stereo set of Play 5 speakers in the bedroom, I
just tell any of my Amazon Echo speakers in the hous to play that song or
artist followed by "on Bedroom Sonos".
My default music source on the Echo is set to Apple Music, Alexa will say
"playing such and such from Apple Music on bedroom Sonos" and the music will
then start playing.
If I am playing anentire artist or album, I can then tell the Echo to turn the
volume up or down, skip the currently playing song etc.
Of course if you have speakers like the One where you can enable either Alexa
or the Google Assistant, you don't even need another Echo speaker. We have
stereo pairs of Sonos One speakers in our bathroom, the kitchen and in my
woodworking shop and here I can just say "Alexa, play such and such" and since
Alexa lives on that Sonos speaker it will play my request and I don't have to
tell it "on bathroom Sonos" or "on kitchen Sonos".

Best regards,
Sieghard

RE: Thinking of getting airpods and wondering what the differences are between the versions

2020-07-02 Thread Simon A Fogarty
The simple one is that the standard series 2 pods are the same look / feel as
what is on the wired earpods that would have come with your iPhone or iPod.

They sit in to the entrance of the ear but don't go in to the ear canal.

They don't have noise cancelation and come with eiter a wireless charging case
or a case that needs to be connected to a usb/ lightening cable to charge.

The pros are a slightly shorter length and have a silicon or latex insert that
goes in to the ear canal making them in some ways a tighter fitting pod but not
everyones feel,
The pros have a noise cancelling feature and a button thing on the side to give
what's called transparency mode that lets you hear outside noise without taking
the pods out.

Slightly larger charging case which is both wireless and or wired charging .
Similar leght battery life for both designs, one being 5 hours playing and the
other 4.5 hours
Both forms of case give up to 24 hours of charging time

So really it comes down to both what you like in the way of feel of them in
your ears, and what you wish to pay.

The pros are to get some updates to firmware along with the Ios 14
Update that will give them the features of 5.1
7.1
And dolby atmos audio which is what you get from stand alone speakers

I'm not sure but I believe the series 2 standard pods will get these updates as
well, but may be not to the same extent.

The other thing to look at / think about are the beats pods,
Such as the power beats and the power beats pro,

 Larger in size,
Cheaper in price and for the power beats pro I think just as good a sound
quality as the series 2 pods,
There are volume and play / pause and next / back track controls on the power
beats pro pods and I believe on the power beats but on a wire that goes around
your neck between the two pods,

Hooks over the ears to hold them on / in your ears,
And they have the latex insert to the ear canal like the apple airpods pro

My suggestion would be to look on the apple website and have a look at what
they say about the 4 design / models and then if possible go to an apple store
to have a look at samples of them that you can perhaps try out with real life
situations

I hope this has been of some help and you can find something you like.

I've got both the series 2 airpods and the power beats pro pods, and although I
prefer the airpods because of the size and portability I do use the power beats
pro constantly for when I'm out and about.

Good luck.

My iphone doesn’t support the standard 3.5 headphones anymore, and only my iPad

I intend to use them for zoom conferences, and when i go out, if i do anyway

The Air pods are shaped exactly like the wired buds which come with the
iPhone just without the wires. Great sound and comfortable fit. I just won't
try any further buds which go into the ear canal. And the price is as much
as the Air pods. Thanks for the great description and I know what good

Re: Thinking of getting airpods and wondering what the differences are between the versions

2020-07-02 Thread Marie
I have two Plantronics Edge headsets and have praised them a lot. But with
both, after a few months I find them occasionally dropping the connection or
they sometimes switch to the second device for, say a phone call, and then
do not switch back to the first device. This worked flawlessly in the
beginning. And if using on my laptop, the lag is so bad, I just can't
tolerate it.

Remember that the Airpods will not switch seamlessly/automatically and
instantly between your iPhone and Apple Watch.
They are Apple's own product and are supposed the most advanced Bluetooth
earbuds out there yet pretty much any other Bluetooth headset will do this
so I am not quite sure how this works and how Apple justifies this. I have a
Voyager Edge single earpiece and if I pair it to both my iPhone and Apple
Watch, I can be listening to an audio book on my iPhone using the earpiece
and as soon as I do something on my watch the book stops and it switches to
my watch, once I stop the book plays again as soon as the watch locks.

Hi Sieghard and all,
Yes, I need a wireless headset that can be instantly and seamlesly switched
between my Iphone and Apple watch.
When I checked and compared prices of Plantronics and airpods, the airpods
cost about 30 euros more than Plantronics here in Slovakia, to not decided
yet which model I am going to buy.

Please, Are there any other models available that has this feature?
Thanks in advance.

I think Simon is steering you in the right direction. You don't want
the Airpod Pros but the Airpods, as Simon describes below. You asked
if you can use them while they're in the charging case, and the
answer is no you cannot. You cannot place them in your ear while
they're in the charging case, and when you place the Airpods in the
charging case the Bluetooth connection is shutdown.

Do any of the Anker ear buds fit like the air pods? I have small ear canals
and have never found ear buds which do not make them somewhat sore after a
while. It is one of the things I love about the Apple wired buds or the air

I have used and do like the Anker products.

Hi,

The original airpods or what are now known as the series 2 airpods are
what you are thinking of I believe.

These are the ones that look like apple have cut the wire off the old
wired earpods that use to come with your iphone or ipods

Now they come in a little flip top case that you can charge with a
standard iphone lightening cable Or if you wish to pay slightly more
you can get the wireless charging case which you can if you have one
place it on to a wireless charging pad and the case / airpods charge just
by sitting flat on the pad.

My suggestion would be the series 2 airpods which use Bluetooth to
pair with your phone and or other apple device using your apple id And
they can be used either together or as a single pod if you need to
have an ear free for other things.

Or if you wish to stay with the older wired airpods then you would be
best to look at the earpods with the lightening connection as the
newer phones no longer have the 3.5mm headphone jack, so the
lightening connectors ar what is needed if you don't go the airpods
Bluetooth way.

Hope this helps.

First I thought I'd never buy the airpods, but the more you talk about
airpods, the more I consider buying them.
However, I would like to get the airpods that look like original apple
wired ear buds.
I cannot wear the ones that go into ear canal, because they are not
confortable for me.

Personal preference!

Sieghard

I do indeed.
If you need something durable that can be collapsed and reassembled often, it
is excellent.
If you want something to always be in one place, the Scanner bin from Amazon is
also quite good and that person did a special video for blind users for putting
it together.

information for anyone who is interested in this stand, which is quite durable
and portable.

Thank you for contacting the National Federation of the Blind Independence

We are now able to take and process phone orders again.

We do sell the Fopydo scanning stand as follows:

FOPYDO KNFB READER SCANNING STAND:

This is a very handy accessory for anyone who uses the KNFB Reader or other OCR
app on a smart phone or other device. If you plan to scan multiple pages in one
reading session or have trouble holding the phone steady, a scanning stand
becomes very helpful, as you can rest the device on the stand. The lightweight
Fopydo KNFB Reader scanning stand is very portable and easy to assemble. Its 11
inch height is ideal for reading 8 1/2 × 11 inch documents, but the height can
be adjusted to accommodate the scanning of larger format items. The stand is
made of corrugated plastic with fold-out metal legs which can be extended to
vary the height. The shelf features a notch to make it easy to line up the
device camera and a sticky strip to keep the device in place. The shelf is even
sturdy enough to accommodate an iPad Mini. When collapsed, the stand measures
11 3/4 × 9 1/2 × 1/4 inches.

RE: Fopydo Scanning Stand from Independence Market NFB

2020-07-02 Thread Richard Turner
Hi,
If you place the phone with the camera just beyond the small half-circle in
the cutout at the front edge of the shelf, the camera should be pointing at the
center of your document.
Making sure of course that the document is even with the back wall of the stand
between the feet.
You could even put the camera a little beyond that half-circle but not too much
beyond.
If you are using Voice Dream Scanner, you could just have the flash on, or turn
it off and let it use the room lighting.
Too much light can be as much of a problem as not enough.

I hope that explanation helps.

If not let me know.

better scanning results just by holding the phone and snapping photos of the
pages I need scanned. I am not sure what the problem is, may be the stand is
blocking the flash from lighting over the page correctly, or may be I need some
extra lighting.
Having had a lot of experience with it, what do you recommend for the most

RE: Fopydo Scanning Stand from Independence Market NFB

2020-07-02 Thread Cris Ali
Hi Richard,
I bought this stand, but somehow I am not able to use it efficiently. I get
better scanning results just by holding the phone and snapping photos of the
pages I need scanned. I am not sure what the problem is, may be the stand is
blocking the flash from lighting over the page correctly, or may be I need some
extra lighting.
Having had a lot of experience with it, what do you recommend for the most
efficient use of it?

made of corrugated plastic with fold-out metal legs which can be extended to

sturdy enough to accommodate an iPad Mini. When collapsed, the stand measures
11 3/4 × 9 1/2 × 1/4 inches.

Re: Thinking of getting airpods and wondering what the differences are between the versions

2020-07-02 Thread Mária Orovčíková

Hmmm, I am confused now.
Some people say that airpods switch seamlessly/automatically and
instantly between Iphone and apple watch, some say they don't.

I certainly do not want to buy something that wil not work for me.
Voyager edge seems to be the headset with the features I need, but I am
afraid it is not available here.

Please, would you mind me asking the price you got it for?
Thanks.

The original airpods or what are now known as the series 2 airpods
are what you are thinking of I believe.

These are the ones that look like apple have cut the wire off the
old wired earpods that use to come with your iphone or ipods

Now they come in a little flip top case that you can charge with a

more you can get the wireless charging case which you can if you
have one place it

pair with your phone and or other apple device using your apple id And
they can be used either together or as a single pod if you need to
have an ear free for other things.

2020-07-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And the original poster should also take into consideration that Apple
apparently is going to introduce a bunch of cool new features which you may or
may not get with the regular Airpods. I assume if you do get them that there
might be a new generation of regular Airpods coming out, but of course that is
just speculation. Despite the fact how so many people like the Airpods, regular
or Pro, I still believe that for me they are not worth the price especially not
until they figure out how they seamlessly and instantly switch back and forth
between your iPhone and Apple Watch.

RE: Question re Apple Home Pod

2020-07-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Best regards,
Sieghard

RE: Recording apps

Hi Richard,

Just a note on zoom,

Yes you can record the call but you have to have been the one who setup the
call in zoom,
The host if I remember correctly,

They are the only ones able to record an active call / meeting.

Otherwise should be good to go.

There are not really any apps for that as Apple doesn't allow it.
There are some apps that use a conference line idea but that puts your call on
the cloud and I've not heard anything good about those.
If you could set up a Zoom meeting, you may be able to record the Zoom call.
Otherwise you would need to put the call on speaker and use a separate
recording device.

RE: Thinking of getting airpods and wondering what the differences are between the versions

2020-07-02 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi,

The original airpods or what are now known as the series 2 airpods are what you
are thinking of I believe.

These are the ones that look like apple have cut the wire off the old wired
earpods that use to come with your iphone or ipods

Now they come in a little flip top case that you can charge with a standard
iphone lightening cable
Or if you wish to pay slightly more you can get the wireless charging case
which you can if you have one place it on to a wireless charging pad and the
case / airpods charge just by sitting flat on the pad.

My suggestion would be the series 2 airpods which use Bluetooth to pair with
your phone and or other apple device using your apple id
And they can be used either together or as a single pod if you need to have an
ear free for other things.

Or if you wish to stay with the older wired airpods then you would be best to
look at the earpods with the lightening connection as the newer phones no
longer have the 3.5mm headphone jack, so the lightening connectors ar what is
needed if you don't go the airpods Bluetooth way.

Hope this helps.

Hello list,
First I thought I'd never buy the airpods, but the more you talk about airpods,
the more I consider buying them.
However, I would like to get the airpods that look like original apple wired
ear buds.
I cannot wear the ones that go into ear canal, because they are not confortable
for me.
Although I have Iphone XR, I stil use ear buds that were sold with Iphone 6,
because I like the look, shape and the box for storage.
Honestly, I've not checked yet the look of Ear buds that go with Iphone XR, so
I cannot compare.
Do airpods look like Iphone 6 ear buds?
Can you use them when they are in charging case?
And how to make sure that I will buy the model I want?
I have heard that apple also has airpods that go into ear canal, so I would
like to avoid buying wrong model.
Thank you for your help in advance.

I cannot wear the ones that go into ear canal, because they are not

Do airpods look like Iphone 6 ear buds?
Can you use them when they are in charging case?
And how to make sure that I will buy the model I want?
I have heard that apple also has airpods that go into ear canal, so I
would like to avoid buying wrong model.

silicon tips that fit into your ear, so they do have passive noise
cancellation. They also have active noise cancellation, as well as a
transparency mode, which picks up environmental sounds through the microphones
and transmits it through the Airpod Pros. Based on feedback I got from this
list, I went with the Airpod Pros myself, and I don't regret it. I had coupons

choice if I were talking about my own money. Bottom line for me is that if you
can afford them go with the Pros, but if price is a consideration, you might
want to go with the Airpods instead.
