Accessible accounting software?

2020-07-15 Thread karuna Chopra
Is there any fully accessible, VoiceOver compatible, accounting software?

I have been desperately looking for some accounting software over the past few
years, but I have never been lucky!
I could make do by having an accountant friend visit me and write my accounts
for me on my non-accessible software.
COVID19 has put an end to that! we specially challenged people have to now do
more and more things on our own, accounting is one of them. How are all of you
guys managing? Would love to get some solution for this tremendously vexing
problem!

AppleVis blog, Apple Releases iOS 13.6 and iPadOS 13.6

2020-07-15 Thread Richard Turner
Apple Releases iOS 13.6 and iPadOS 13.6; Bringing Additional Options for
Software Update Downloads, New Features to the News and Health Apps, and More
Submitted by AppleVis on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 - 17:00.
Apple has today released iOS 13.6 and iPadOS 13.6, bringing changes to how
software updates are installed, changes to the Health and News apps, and
support for Car Key which allows an ?iPhone? or an Apple Watch to be used to
unlock an NFC-enabled vehicle.

We are currently unaware of any changes, fixes or regressions in these releases
for blind or low vision users. If you encounter any during your own use of the
software, please let us know by posting a comment below.

According to Apple's release notes via MacRumors,, iOS 13.6 includes the
following changes:

iOS 13.6 adds support for digital car keys, introduces audio
stories in ?Apple News?+, and contains a new symptoms category in the Health
app. This release also includes bug fixes and improvements.

   Digital car keys

   * Unlock, lock, and start your compatible car with your iPhone
* Securely remove digital keys from a lost device via iCloud
* Share digital keys easily with iMessage
* Driver-specific profiles so you can configure shared keys for full-access or
restricted driving
* Power reserve lets you unlock and start your car for up to five hours after
iPhone runs out of battery

Apple News

   * Audio stories are professionally narrated versions of some of
the best reads from Apple News+, selected and produced by the Apple News
editors as part of your Apple News+ subscription
* Apple News Today is a new, free audio briefing on the day's top stories from
the Apple News editors, also available in the Podcasts app
* A new Audio tab makes it easy to find Apple News Today and Apple News+ audio
stories
* CarPlay allows you to listen to Apple News Today and Apple News+ audio
stories while on the road
* Local news in your Today feed provides extensive coverage of San Francisco,
the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Houston, and New York City
* More stories available from local news providers with a subscription to
?Apple News?+
* Your daily newsletter from ?Apple News? can now be personalized with stories
that reflect your interests

Health

   * New category for symptoms in the Health app, including
symptoms logged from Cycle Tracking and ECG
* Ability to log new symptoms, like fever, chills, sore throat or coughing, and
share them with third-party apps

This update also includes bug fixes and other improvements.

   * Adds a new setting to choose if updates automatically download
to your device when on Wi-Fi
* Addresses an issue that could cause apps to become unresponsive when syncing
data from iCloud Drive
* Fixes an issue that could cause data roaming to appear to be disabled on eSIM
even though it remained active
* Fixes an issue that causes some phone calls from Saskatchewan to appear as
originating from the United States
* Addresses an issue that could interrupt audio when making phone calls over
Wi-Fi Calling
* Fixes an issue that prevented some ?iPhone? 6S and iPhone SE devices from
registering for Wi-Fi Calling
* Resolves an issue that could cause the software keyboard to appear
unexpectedly when connected to certain third-party hardware keyboards
* Fixes an issue that could cause Japanese hardware keyboards to be incorrectly
mapped as a U.S. keyboard
* Addresses stability issues when accessing Control Center when Assistive Touch
was enabled
* Provides a mechanism for administrators to specify domains to exclude from
traffic carried by always-on VPN connections

iOS and iPadOS 13.6 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General >
Software Update) via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or via
iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier.

Before updating, we strongly recommend making a full and complete backup of
your device (either in Finder, iTunes or iCloud, depending on personal
preference). This will ensure that, in the unlikely event that something goes
wrong during the update process, you will have a current backup on hand in case
a device restore becomes necessary. Also, if using OTA update, we recommend
plugging your device into a power source for the duration of the
download/installation process, so as to prevent the unlikely event of your
battery going dead during the update.

More information on how to update the software on your iOS or iPadOS device is
available on this Apple Support page.

Re: Voiceover speech not using external speaker except when in sound settings

2020-07-15 Thread Ann
I know I posted earlier what I thought was a fix, but it went south on me
again. But I have fixed it now. And OMG, I can't believe it. But it was
dust and gunk in the headphone jack, a whole lot of it!
I got the gunk out using a toothpick and very very gentle scraping action.
I can't believe the large piece of dust that came out of my poor headphone
jack. Really gross!

But now Voiceover is chattering away again. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I think you are probably turning on Reachability, which brings the top

I have fixed my external speaker issue. I had to go in to the Rotor
settings, and deselect Audio Destination. I don't know how it got
selected in the first place, but now things work just fine.

I too am having trouble with voice over. It is sort of hit and miss and I can
usually get it back but it isn’t very reliable. I am trying to get a new phone
but that takes a little time. I wonder if there is a problem with voiceover in
one of the new updates.

Hi ann,

Your headphone jack may have a piece of dust blocking it or something of that
sort. Try plugging in and disconnecting your headphones a few times to see if
that helps.

RE: Voiceover speech not using external speaker except when in sound settings

2020-07-15 Thread Richard Turner
I don't have that phrasing under VoiceOver, Audio in settings if no headphones
are connected.
Under VoiceOver, Audio I have:
Sounds and Haptics,
Audio Ducking, which is off.
Auto Select Speaker in Call, on.
Send to HDMI, off.
That's it.
If I plug in headphones, then I have, Sound channels.

So, either your earphone jack has an issue and makes the phone think it has
headphones connected, or the Bluetooth thinks there are headphones connected.

This is the kind of thing that I would call Apple Accessibility and ask them to
do a share screen and run the diagnostics they can do remotely.

The thing I love about a haptic Home button is that you can tell when your
phone is off because nothing happens when you press the Home button. This makes
restarting the iPhone a lot easier. I just got an SE after having a X, and it's
nice to have the Home button back.

Voiceover speech not using external speaker except when in sound settings

2020-07-15 Thread Ann

Hi folks,

I have an iPhone 6S, running the iOS 13.5. For the second time in as
many weeks, my Voice over speech has gone silent. But, when I use Siri
and Open the Sound settings or the Audio settings under Voice over, all
of a sudden my speech turns back on. Under speech and Audio channels,
Headphones seem to be selected, though I have none connected either
physically or via Bluetooth.

The only reason I can tell the phone is still operating is because I
have a braille display connected via Bluetooth.

I fixed this once by resetting my phone, but i do not want to do that
again. does anyone have any suggestions? This only started after a
recent iOS update.

Thanks,

~Ann

Re: Several questions regarding newly purchased S E 2020

2020-07-15 Thread Daniel MacDonald
Hello,

For the second question, I cannot answer it. I am a Canadian and we do not have
NVNO’S in the country. The Radio and Television tellecomunacations communitione
(CRTC,) which is the equiveletion to the Federal comuntion (FCC,) does not
allow them in. It is a threat to Rogers, Tellus, Eastlink, and Bell, as well as
the smaller carriers, that if they do not lower prices of cells, NVNO’S will
come. I am going to push the CRTC, even if the big four lower prices, NVNO’S
should come regardless.

As for the third question, the home button is a kind of virtual space that
feels like a physical button, like the six, but it is a vibrabory button. When
the phone is off, the space feels hard,. When it is on, the home button
functions like a Six. Their are three settings that can be set. They control
how the home button feels, and how intense the click feels. Hope that answers
your third question. My Apple ID for FaceTime, which is also most of my contact
info is daniel.angus.macdon...@gmail.com. may cell number is: +1 (902) 870-9965.
censenerly,
Daniel Angus MacDonald.

Re: Several questions regarding newly purchased S E 2020

2020-07-15 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Don 1st congrats on your new purchase! It’ll be a 4 weeks this Monday with
mine, and what a phone! It’s sound is awesome! But and other great thing about
it which I?m sure you’ll come to know when you get it set up.
but going back to your original question about setting it up, as for the Sim
Card, I couldn’t tell you because Telcel gave it to me with the Sim already
installed and set up, thus its transfer went very smoothly! You don’t hardly
need to enter any passwords amazingly! And even your music (which you
transferred via Itunes in my case) when I had my previous SE, transferred over
to this phone! Which had never happened before with previous phones.
Regarding the virtual Home button, that’s the part of the initial setup (when
turning VoiceOver on for the first time with the 3-Home button press),but no
trouble at all! Since you feel a tiny I wouldn’t call it vibration) a tap on
the phone itself with every press of the Home button. Good luck! And hope you
enjoy your new phone, as much as I’m so far.
