RE: new SE loses wifi contact with internet frequently

I want to turn off wifi assist. However, that switch is dimmed. So, what do I
need to change to gain access to this switch?

Many thanks,

Re: Copying a text message into an email

2020-07-28 Thread Steve Matzura
The one thing about copying text mesages, or forwarding them, for that
matter, that folk need to know is that if the mesage being copied or
forwarded is formatted--that is, if it has line breaks, empty lines,
etc., all of that formatting is lost when the copied message is pasted
into another text message. If there's a way to preserve that formatting,
I'd really love to know how, because I have to forward a lot of text
messages with formatting that lose that formatting when transferred,
rendering them almost unreadable because lines that have hard returns
have lost them.

I do have 'text selection' selected in my rotor, so not sure why it

It does show up when I type message into the body of an email, but
not when I am inside a text message.

Any ideas?

RE: Exercise bikes

2020-07-28 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Then your looking in the wrong places,

I've seen them here in NZ for around the 2 grand mark but that was a higher end
device,

It really does depend on what it is you are trying to do.

The other thing is you can use a standard bicycle on a cycle erg,
So you can get them so you sit the back wheel on the roller and the wheel is
locked in to place and use the gearing on the bike to change your resistance
levels,
And there are some which have resistance on the roller as well.

Or you can get the ergs that you take the front wheel off and lock the forks
on to a bracket that holds the front in place while again the back wheel sits
on a roller and spins as you pedal.

But yes if you have an apple watch it can give you HR and time etc measurements
But you can also get caidence / speed computers that cost very little but have
to be put on the bikes to measue what speed and distances you are cycling.

I have my own road bike on a cycle erg that the back wheel locks in to and I
use gears for resistance,
I have my apple watch to measure some things
and a caidance meter to measure speed and RPM from the back wheel,
these are fed into an app on my phone which is from a company called wahoo, and
that also talks to my HR monitor which is again a wahoo device and gives a
better reading than the watch does,

it really depends on what you wantto spend or do as to what it costs you.

When I cycle I take it pretty seriously, but that's just because it's something
I've done for years.

We bought a spin bike last fall and decided to get just a basic model without
any connectivity because both my wife and I have Apple Watches which we use
with the indoor cycle workout to track time, heart rate and calories.
Yes, some bikes keep track of a virtual distance, but who really cares if the
bike says you biked 6 miles or 10 miles, I am after a good workout and for that
my heart rate and calories burned are more important. I don't know how much you
want to spend, but you are better off investing in a good quality bike without
a fancy controller which may or may not give you what you want, if anything
spend that money on an Apple Watch which you can use for any type of workout
not just your bike.

Re: new SE loses wifi contact with internet frequently

Try turning off wifi assist. This might help keep you connected to wifi
without dropping the connection. Wifi assist bounces back and forth
between cellular and wifi based on the signal. When wifi assist is
turned off, you'll only switch to cellular data when there's no wifi
network to connect to in range.

You may want to ask Apple Accessibility to do a screen share and run

RE: Accessible blood pressure monitor that syncs with Health app

2020-07-28 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi,
I like the QardioArm as I have been using it for years. Not sure if it works
with the health app. It does keep track of your blood pressure every time you
take it. It stores it in the history and I can either email it to my doctor or
show him on my iPhone when I see him.

Subject: Accessible blood pressure monitor that syncs with Health app

Greetings. As often happens, I've got a question about a topic which
was not relevant to me before, but is now. Can anyone recommend a good
accessible blood pressure monitor that would be compatible with my
iPhone 10R and can sync with the iOS Health app? I looked on AppleVis
and found an accessory review for the QardioArm from 2015. Not sure if
this one is still good, or perhaps if it works better in 2020 than it
did in 2015. All input appreciated.

Be well,

Re: weird thing in touch typing

2020-07-28 Thread Richard Turner
You want General, keyboard, and turn off predictive and Slide to type.
You are ending up with slide to type, which I personally feel is a pain in the
behind, unless you are well practiced and like all that chatter.
I keep it turned off.

Accessible blood pressure monitor that syncs with Health app

2020-07-28 Thread Wayne Merritt

Be well,
Wayne Merritt

Hi there,
Since Braille keyboard is in the rotor, just move to next rotor item and it
should close. I have never used the SE, but when I had my XS, that’s how I used

Re: Exercise bikes

2020-07-28 Thread Andy Baracco
It's not exactly a bike, but the Cubii is a sitting elliptical. you do not
sit on it, but you place it in front of a chair that you are sitting in. it
has 9 resistance levels, and the basic model that sells for $199 has no
connectivity, but for $50 more, there is a model that has bluetooth and will
pair with an iPhone. The companion app is accessible with voiceover and can
give you a wealth of info about your workout.

I want to thank all of you for your responses. I have been researching bikes
and the prices and features are all over the place.

I really like the idea of getting a bike just so that I can work out rather
than worrying about connectivity. I have also seen that some of them require
additional apps with monthly fees and I'm not interested in paying more
especially for a feature that may or may not work.

I have some chronic lower back pain and my doctor is recommending that I use
a recumbent bike to build up the core muscles in the lower back while also
providing some support while riding.

Again thanks for all of your suggestions.

Hi,
please do yourself A favor and research before purchasing an indoor cycle
that comes equipped with a computer as some of these computers are not
accurate.
I have a indoor cycle that is comparable to the spin bikes that you find at
the gym. honestly, all you need is a rpm/cadence sensor and you are good to
go in terms of getting a good workout. An Apple Watch will help you track
other metrics if that is what you're into. if you have an indoor cycle with
a rpm/cadence sensor as an add-on, you can follow along with spin class
instructors that are giving you information like spin at 80% or hundred
percent etc.
For something like this, you probably won't spend over $700 with a decent
indoor cycle and sensor.

Searching for apps in the app store

Until recently, I hadn't searched for apps for my iPhone.  Now I have a
new S E 2020 running the latest version of IOS 13.  Since the money
reader program is no longer available, I wanted to locate and install a
comparable program which I believe is called I Note.  Since I was
uncertain of the correct spelling, I wanted to attempt to spell it
rather than dictate it, but I couldn't figure just how to accomplish
this; this despite the fact that a few minutes earlier, I had located
and installed Script Talk mobile.

Thanks in advance for any step by step instructions for locating and

Re: Exercise bikes

2020-07-28 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
I was looking for an exercise cycle some time ago. I did not want gimmicks I
could or would not use.

The model I have had for over two years now is:

JLL® IC300 Indoor Exercise Bike...
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06X9CPTNH?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I use this in conjunction with my Apple Watch to set myself goals and monitor
my achievements.

I’ve lost close to four Stone and dramatically decreased my blood pressure.

Unfortunately my training has been interrupted by my being hospitalised where I
was diagnosed with an atrial flutter, a kidney infection and sepsis. My kidney
is deformed and is due to be removed. Unfortunately, I have recently been
found to have MRSA and as soon as it is cleared hopefully my defective
non-functioning kidney can be removed. I will no longer need my nephrostomy
and training can resume.

I have some chronic lower back pain and my doctor is recommending that I use a

providing some support while riding.

Again thanks for all of your suggestions.

Hi,
please do yourself A favor and research before purchasing an indoor cycle that
comes equipped with a computer as some of these computers are not accurate.
I have a indoor cycle that is comparable to the spin bikes that you find at the
gym. honestly, all you need is a rpm/cadence sensor and you are good to go in
terms of getting a good workout. An Apple Watch will help you track other
metrics if that is what you're into. if you have an indoor cycle with a
rpm/cadence sensor as an add-on, you can follow along with spin class
instructors that are giving you information like spin at 80% or hundred percent
etc.
For something like this, you probably won't spend over $700 with a decent
indoor cycle and sensor.

Apple's developer kit or interface for such things then good luck, I did not
find one under $10,000 which means it's really designed for professional gyms.

2020-07-28 Thread Debby
Hi Arnold,

I have an iPhone 8 and an SE 2020. The camera is in the same place on the SE
2020 as compared to the 8. Also it is true the cases for the 8 will fit the SE
2020.

Hope that helps. Take care!

This may be something that Aira or Be My Eyes could help with.
Which model do you have?
I'll ask my wife to look it up.
If you know the steps involved, I'm sure it wouldn't take more than a few
minutes for an Aira or Be My Eyes agent to walk you through it.

My sighted wife bought it for the copy/scanner function, and was happy to
discover the printing works perfectly with the iPhone/iPad without the need for
an app.
But, it was about $180.
There are other Brother laser-jets that work fine with VoiceOver.
Just make sure it says it supports AirPrint.

Yes it's possible, set sounds to vibrate when silent in sound settings; then
toggle the mute switch to the on position;

RE: Exercise bikes

2020-07-28 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I can't give you exact names / models but yes there are now quite a few
products out there that are iPhone / IOs or android compatible

Your best bet would be to find a store or stockest of exercise equipment and go
in to have an actual look at the products to find one that suited you both in
what you are doing and how it feels when you are on it working out.

The last thing you want to do is purchase a product on line and find it wont
feel good for you while your on it.

Comfort during exercise is important especially when cycling,
You don't want to get a sore butt.
I personally use my road bike on a cycle erg that the back wheel should sit and
it helps set the resistance and still allows for using the gearing on the bike.

Good luck I hope you find something.

RE: Silencing Ring Tone

2020-07-28 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Yeah there is the mute toggle on the side of the phone above the volume keys
and also under sounds / haptic feedback that allows you to have a vibration
even if the tone is not sounding.

Is there a way to silence the ring tone only, and have a vibration pattern on a
iPhone 7Plus?
I would like to do this for the telephone ring only, and not other alerts.
Running the latest build of IOS 13.

RE: The screen recognition feature: was Re: getting a new SE 2020 today

2020-07-28 Thread Simon A Fogarty
So is that going to work on the sE 2020 and 11 range or will it be limited to
the se 2020 and upcoming releases later in the year?

The new feature basically will perform a scan for text on the screen, making
previously inaccessible apps hopefully accessible. It will require the latest
chips or processors.

Does anyone know whether the new SE model will support the screen recognition
feature in the upcoming IOS14? I realize it may be too early to tell, but I
know it will be only available on tens and up. Maybe the SE doesn't have a
certain chip in it? Thanks, Matthew

The direct transfer is excellent.

Alan Lemley had posted his steps a couple of times on how to do this.

I did it but didn’t write down the steps.

If you can find Alan’s post in the archives, it is worth reading.

Or, as Fred said, call Apple Accessibility and I suspect they can walk you
through it.

But, definitely back up your current phone.

Dan, you can and should back-up your six and then you can directly transfer all
of your info from the six to the SE. Can't remember how it is done, but call
apple Accessability and they can instruct you on how to get this accomplished.
It is a farely pain-free process.

I am getting one of these. I am wondering though if I can do a backup of my
current Six and then restore the apps and data from the Six to the new SE. I
suspect not but thought I should ask.

   Any thoughts would be appreciated.

   Thanks.

Works with my X R, so it’ll definitely work with the SE2.
