Hi Kimberley,

Can you check what the URL is if one came in the email about the payment issue?

If the url is not an apple one then it would be a phish of some kind.

Someone mentioned subscribing to a list. It was for the orbit reader. Do they

I have to say at this point I am disappointed in the device. Hopefully, I will
learn more, and things will get better.
I will also have the problem of updating. My computer is quite old, and so is

Orbit contacted me and asked questions about my steps for pairing the Orbit

Orbit tech support said an update is coming soon.

The thing is my 30 day window for return is drawing close. If the update isn’t
here by say next Tuesday, I’ll have a decision to make.

My other concern is updates can only be done via Windows. I have been
reacquainting myself with the Windows environment, but I am not as proficient

What are other users thoughts? How about those of you that are more familiar

Thank you,

I just mark my chosen stars for the various ratings points like over all

Then the only other option is the write full review button so I double

 But
 then the review never appears.

Re: Update to Orbit Writer

2020-08-10 Thread Candy Lowe
Traci, I got my orbit writer on Friday. I am having the same problem. I can
only pair one device. I tried tech support today, but, got no answer. Would
you mind giving me the information on where I can follow the thread you are
talking about.
Someone mentioned subscribing to a list. It was for the orbit reader. Do they
also discuss the writer?
I have to say at this point I am disappointed in the device. Hopefully, I will
learn more, and things will get better.
I will also have the problem of updating. My computer is quite old, and so is
my husbands. I only use my phone now, and he uses his iPad.

Re: Confirming Appointments

2020-08-10 Thread Mike B
Hi Ann,

I just tried this several times and it worked every time. When confirming
with the letter, Y , using dictation say, capital Y, and only the capital Y
will be inserted. Trying to insert a lower case, y , didn't work using
saying lower case y or little y.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Go dodgers!

Typing a 1 to confirm is odd. I normally have to type a Y to confirm or N to
say no. I always type the response to be sure it’s accurate then check it

Hi All,

Using an SE 2020 iPhone running iOS13.6. When I get a text message to
confirm an appointment by replying with the number, 1 , how do you do this
using dictation? When I say, 1, or number 1, it doesn't work, so I have to
type the number, 1 , and then send. All suggestions will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks mooy moocho.

Re: Does anyone else lose voice over after they listen to a voicemail?

2020-08-10 Thread Chris Chaffin

I am using ios 13.41, and I am not positive that it is an ios issue, but I do
know as soon as I start playing a voice mail in the phone app, I lose voice
over.

I now use Siri to play my voice mail and that seems to work just fine.

2020-08-10 Thread Mike B
Hi Holly & Jasmine,

Thank you very much for your suggestions. Saying, numeral 1, puts only the,
1 , into the text message whereas saying, number 1 or number sign 1,
inserts, the word, number, and the, 1. Thanks again, this is great to get
this figured out.

Confirming Appointments

2020-08-10 Thread Mike B
Hi All,

Using an SE 2020 iPhone running iOS13.6. When I get a text message to
confirm an appointment by replying with the number, 1 , how do you do this
using dictation? When I say, 1, or number 1, it doesn't work, so I have to
type the number, 1 , and then send. All suggestions will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks mooy moocho.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Go dodgers!

Re: Update to Orbit Writer

2020-08-10 Thread Scott Davert
Hi Peggy.
You will need a Windows computer to do the update. My hope is that
they will eventually allow the Orbit Writer to update the way the
Orbit Readers do, but that may not be possible since there is no easy
way to get a file onto it other than through Windows. They may have to
entertain the idea of being able to update via the Mac. I sure hope
they do! I do not own a Mac anymore, but I still think people should
be able to update regardless of whether they're a Mac or Windows user.

Just my thoughts,
Scott

The thing is my 30 day window for return is drawing close. If the update isn’t
here by say next Tuesday, I’ll have a decision to make.

My other concern is updates can only be done via Windows. I have been
reacquainting myself with the Windows environment, but I am not as proficient
as I use to be.

What are other users thoughts? How about those of you that are more familiar
with Orbit Research?

Thank you,
Traci

Re: Update to Orbit Writer

2020-08-10 Thread pegkane52
Hi,
I have a question for those of you who are currently using the orbit writer.
When you update it for new software, do you have to use a computer, or can you
use your iPhone?
Thanks very much for any information.

So a few things here. I’m following the thread on AppleVis and saw that Orbit
Research posted.

I have sent an email to tech support like they requested and laid out my issues

Orbit contacted me and asked questions about my steps for pairing the Orbit

Orbit tech support said an update is coming soon.

For whatever reason, if I use a wired headset, I do not lose Voiceover after
hearing a Voicemail.
It is still a nasty bug though, and I have written to Apple Accessibility.
Thanks..

Hello,
Yes I have seen this issue also. I would second Paul's suggestion on reporting
this to Apple accessibility and attempting to be as specific as possible.

I have sent an email to tech support like they requested and laid out my issues
and concerns.

Orbit contacted me and asked questions about my steps for pairing the Orbit
Writer to my devices. It seems as if I am following the instructions correctly.
Orbit tech support said an update is coming soon.

The thing is my 30 day window for return is drawing close. If the update isn’t
here by say next Tuesday, I’ll have a decision to make.

My other concern is updates can only be done via Windows. I have been
reacquainting myself with the Windows environment, but I am not as proficient
as I use to be.

What are other users thoughts? How about those of you that are more familiar
with Orbit Research?

Thank you,
Traci

RE: Downcast and Alternatives

2020-08-10 Thread Rob Armstrong
I have 3 suggestions for Downcast.

1. At the bottom of the list of unplayed episodes of a podcast there is a
"View other available episodes" button. Double-tap that button to reveal
episodes you have already played. You can scroll down the list to find the
episode you didn't finish listening to.

2. Move back so you are displaying the list of podcasts you have subscribed
to. Double-tap the "More" tab in the bottom right corner of the screen. Then
double-tap the Settings button. Locate the "Episodes to keep" heading.
Double-tap the item just below this heading. It might say "All unplayed, but
it might say something else. After you double-tap, you will be in a list of
choices for which episodes to keep. One of your choices is to keep all
episodes. When you have made your choice, press the "Back" button until you
get back to the items in the More tab. Then double-tap the "Podcasts" tab in
the lower left corner of the screen to get back to your list of podcasts.

3. The choices you make in Settings in the More tab are global settings that
apply to all of your podcasts. You can also customize the settings for a
specific podcast by double-tapping that podcast to open the list of episodes.
Then double-tap "Podcast Settings" in the bottom right corner of the screen.
There you can change any settings that you want to be different for this
specific podcast.

Subject: Downcast and Alternatives

Hi,

I’ve been using Downcast and generally enjoy it. The two features I enjoy most
are the ability to use chapter support as well as the ability to export
episodes to Dropbox, but one thing that drives me absolutely nutty about
Downcast are missing episodes. This morning I was listening to an episode, took
the dog out, and lost Internet connection. When I came back in, the episode I
was listening to had vanished. It seems to get rid of episodes it thinks I have
finished listening. I’m glad it thinks it’s being helpful, but I’d like to keep
the complete list of episodes available regardless of play time.

First, is there a way to fix this issue on Downcast?

Second, are you using an alternative podcast player you know will give me the
two features I love and avoid the feature I despise? I keep hearing Jonathan
Mosen talk about Castro, and my only hesitation to check it out is the
subscription model. I don’t mind subscription plans, but for this sort of
thing, I would rather pay a large lump sum up front.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Joe

computer out of the process. I realize that any solution I come up with will
be more cumbersome than using a computer. At this point, though, Things have
become personal and I plan to continue looking for a method that might work. I
purchased the card reader I’m using from Best Buy. Information on the card
reader is:

Apple - Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader - White

Model:MJYT2AM/ASKU:4803100

Price: $32.99

&_dyncharset=UTF-8&_dynSessConf==pcat17071=page=Global=1n=true=y=All+Categories=960=keys>

Again, thanks for all the help and information.

Take care,

Ed Przybylek

Hi,
I am interested in knowing more about the adapter you use to move files from
the iPhone or iPad to the computer using the files app and back.
What adapter can you use for that, and is it possible to use the regular USB
cable with lightning connecter to transfer files from an SD card?
I currently have a USB adapter hub/memory card reader that has 3 different
memory card slots and 3 USB ports and it includes an SD card slot.

Best,
Priscilla

Hi all,

Richard, you said that the flash drive adapter needs to be plugged in in order

to use an SD card with the Files app. This adapter requires no external power
source. I've moved .mp3 files from my iPhone to the SD card which I then
inserted into my Victor Stream where they played with no problem. This was all
done without using a computer. I was hoping to find a way of doing the same
thing with BARD books. It's looking more and more like this might not be
possible. Thanks.

There isn't one especially if you're still using the first gen stream.
Another option for listening to bard books is always the NLS player
which I'm assuming you have. The bard mobile app is also great.

In case this hasn't been mentioned, you probably could try to download to
the Files app through Safari and then connect an adapter to the iPhone to
copy to a flash drive, then put that in your Victor, but that will be far
slower and more cumbersome than using a computer.
To use the adapter you have to be plugged into power, so if you were
thinking there might be a way for doing this on the road, or whatever, there
isn't.

Stick to the computer or just listen on the BARD app.

RE: BARD Books And The iOS Files App

2020-08-10 Thread Alan Lemly
Edward,

I'm afraid you're out of luck. The only method I know of to download BARD books
with an iOS device is with the BARD Mobile app. This download places those
downloaded books into BARD Mobile available for reading with that app. No
method is provided for transferring downloaded content to another device or an
SD card for reading on another device. I tried going to the BARD site at
https://nlsbard.loc.gov/login on my iPhone using the Firefox app but after
logging in and searching for a book, no download option was offered. All I
could do was add it to my wish list.

Edward, I'm not saying that you can't try and get a bard book from
your IPHONE to an SD card, but it seems to me, your're creating a lot
of unnecessary work for yourself. Is there some major reason why you
don't want to use a computer any more to get books to your first gen

2020-08-10 Thread Richard Turner
Which adapter is that that requires no power?

And, have you tried using Safari to go to the NLS BARD site and downloading a
book?
You may even be able to save it directly to the SD card with that adapter.
If it downloads as a zip file, you may have to unzip it into its own folder on
the SD card, but I think that can be done with Safari as well.
I'd really like to know which phone and which adapter you are using. The one I
bought has to be plugged into power unless you are using an iPad.

Hi all,

Richard, you said that the flash drive adapter needs to be plugged in in order
to use it with the Files app. There is another adapter that makes it possible
to use an SD card with the Files app.

Another option for listening to bard books is always the NLS player which I'm
assuming you have. The bard mobile app is also great.

Help with posting Audible reviews in the Audible app

2020-08-10 Thread Barbara Stahl
Hi!!
Does anyone have experience writing audible reviews using the audible app?
I just wrote a review of a book and the app says that my review was posted but
it has been several days and I don't see it among the reviews for that book.
Am I doing something wrong?
I just mark my chosen stars for the various ratings points like over all and
performance, then I double tap write a full review. I put in the title subject
thing and then I go to the full review section and write my review. Then the
only other option is the write full review button so I double tap that and then
there's the option to to submit and I double tap that and the app says that my
review will appear on the app and the website shortly. But then the review
never appears.
What am I doing wrong?

RE: BARD Books And The iOS Files App

2020-08-10 Thread Richard Turner
In case this hasn't been mentioned, you probably could try to download to the
Files app through Safari and then connect an adapter to the iPhone to copy to a
flash drive, then put that in your Victor, but that will be far slower and more
cumbersome than using a computer.
To use the adapter you have to be plugged into power, so if you were thinking
there might be a way for doing this on the road, or whatever, there isn't.

Stick to the computer or just listen on the BARD app.

Re: Does anyone else lose voice over after they listen to a voicemail?

2020-08-10 Thread Jasmine Kotsay
Hi,
Yes, I have seen this. This has happened to me a couple of times, but it feels
as though I usually have to click my home button to turn voiceover off, then
wait a couple of seconds to turn it back on. It is super annoying, though.

I’m going to give this request a try. Hope I can explain so it’s understood!

If I send a text from within the messaging app, the expand option comes up if I
have more than one phone number in the contact entry of my recipient. If I tap
on expand options, all of the phone numbers in the contact entry appear. I can
choose the number I want and tap on it.

When I tap on message within a contact, it goes to the mobile or iPhone number
in the contact and opens the messaging app. Also, the expand options will
appear because of being in the messaging app.

Voice Dream reader will not read braille files as far as I know. You

I have never experienced this problem, but I am not using a keyboard.

On some occasions I have better results when I let the message complete without
touching the screen or hitting a key on my BT keyboard before it ends.

Hello,

I think someone else gave this same response. The only way I can listen to
voice mail successfully is to listen with wired earphones. I haven't tried
with my airpods, but, I will do that and report back.

Subject: Does anyone else lose voice over after they listen to a voicemail?

Hi,

Whenever I listen to a voicemail, voice-over cuts out for several seconds or
until I press the home button to exit the phone app altogether. Has anyone else
seen this behavior?

I’m running 13.6 on a 2nd gen SE.

Thanks
