RE: wireless/bluetooth headset

2020-11-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
By the way, the H800 batteries are I think just simple AAA rechargeable
batteries so if that is your issue you can buy new ones and replace them and I
have even seen replacement ear pieces for it on Amazon.

RE: wireless/bluetooth headset

2020-11-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you like the H800 why not just buy a new one?
I also have one and while I wish the battery life was just a bit better and the
on/off slider switch wasn't so cheap, I really like it for wireless use with
the USB dongle and my laptop.
I don't like big over-the-ear type headsets and no matter how good, any
Bluetooth headset (and keyboard) has a small lag and I find myself being just
too fast on the computer to put up with it.
This leaves the Bluetooth connection of the H800 free for my iPhone or Amazon
Echo Dot and the same goes for my keyboard except that it can be paired with up
to 3 devices so in addition to using it with the USB dongle for my laptop I can
use it for my iPhone and my Apple Tv.

RE: I O S 14.2 and Night Sky

2020-11-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sorry, Ed, I'm not worried, the border is still closed and in any case I'm like
100 years younger than you so I can take whatever you can dish out 
If you are getting an iPhone 12 I'm truly sorry for you, waste of money, stick
it out for another year or get something cheaper, you'll regret getting the 12
next year.
OK, joking aside, I'm sure the iPhone 12 is a nice enough phone, but you are
paying a higher price for several features which for most people make no
difference, e.g. 5G, maybe a slightly better camera than you would get on an
iPhone 11 which again for a blind person makes no difference etc. And if you
get a 12 Pro or Pro Max you are rreally throwing away money; many rumour
indicate there is a good chance next year's iPhone will have both Face Id and
Touch Id, better 5G support and much more. In my opinion the iPhone 12 is a bit
like the iPhone X, something they had to release but in retrospect an
in-between sort of phone. You can probably get a much better deal in the next
week or so on an iPhone 11, it is what I recently upgraded to from my iPhone 8
and it's amazing simply because the battery is fantastic. On my 2-year old
iPhone 8 I usually got the 20% low battery warming at around 5 or 6 PM after
having had it charged to 100% when I left for work between 8 and 9
AM, my new iPhone 11 with similar usage patterns is usually at around 60 to 70%
at that same time of the day. Then of course it's a bit snappier and it
supports all the latest features like screen recognition and so on.

to turn off image description globally in the way that swiping up turns it off.
It is off in settings already, but that swiping up when it is in the rotor does

2020-11-22 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Hi Robert,

No. I’m a mere mortal without access to betas. :). I ended up calling
Accessibility. Was shocked to learn that they answer the phones 24x7. A guy
named Jeremy, based in Tennessee, walked me through the process for updating
the iPad using my ancient Mac mini and a cable. I left him a great review.
Thing is, the customer service comment form was not really accessible using VO.
I used the vision I had to fill out the form and forgot to complain about the
form itself. Oh well. All’s well that ends well.

Re: Weak Security Being Reported

2020-11-22 Thread Kevin Gibbs
I had the same problem after updating my iPhone7 to 14.1 from 13.7, and
after doing a firmware update on my Deco router. A second subsequent
firmware update has apparently fixed the problem because I no longer get a
week security message. It has nothing to do with passwords. It's about
the WPA option. I don't know enough to say more.

I use dropbox to transfer files to Voice Dream Reader.
Thanks.

But, if you have them on a USB thumb drive, there is an adapter you can buy from Apple and probably Belkin and others, that with iOS 14 and 13 before that, you can plug the adapter into power, and then it into your iPhone.
Then, plug in a USB drive into the adapter.
IN Voice Dream, hit add files.
Pick the file browser.
The screen you want is going to have a More button in the top left, then Voice Dream Heading, Then a search field, Then a locations button that should say expanded.
Then I have OneDrive, iCloud Drive, On My iPhone,
And then my USB drive.
Double tap on the drive and navigate to the mp3 or zip file and add it to VDR as always.
The one I have is from Apple.
It is the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, $39.
I believe they also make these adapters with an SD card slot.

Ok,  I probably asked and received answers before about this but just can't remember what was said.

I have a number of MP3 files I want to listen to via VDR.  I can put them in OneDrive and then move them into VDR but this takes a lot of data movement over the internet.  I'd like to avoid so much internet data traffic
 if I can.

Is there a way to move data such as files from a USB drive through Itunes to my SE 2020 and then into VDR?  I haven't found a way to get Itunes to see the USB drive so that is my first problem but then I don't know
how to get Itunes to see VDR either.

any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi,

I followed those steps, but it isn’t there. I searched for the word Calendar,
and only 1 thing comes up, which isn’t the right thing. It’s also the same
Apple ID. Thank you for your help!

First, is it the same Apple ID?

If you purchased it, after opening the purchased apps screen, double tap on My
Purchases.

Then, double tap on Not on this iPhone.

Then, double tap on the search field.

Enter the name of the app, or the manufacturer.

Spelling counts of course.

If you still don’t find it, You may need to call Apple and see if they can
track it down from your Apple ID.

Photos app in IOS14?

2020-11-22 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello,

Has anyone managed to make sense of the Photos app in IOS14?

No matter what settings I apply I am unable to identify what photo is what. It
used to give the date the photo was taken so you had an idea what was what.

Well, by god, Dianne, that is a way to fix it! Now, there just has to be a way
to turn off image description globally in the way that swiping up turns it off.
It is off in settings already, but that swiping up when it is in the rotor does
something else. I will write to Apple Accessibility later today and tell them
what you figured out. Maybe they will then know how to get turning it off in
settings will really turn it off. Thank you very much.

if you are in some thing that you do not want that to say, just click it off.
You don’t have to go in it, but you just go to where it says off and you will

the case of image recognition, Apple’s intent was to make it configurable.
Therefore, if you’re still hearing this text after you’ve tried to turn off

RE: asking again about moving files into Voice Dream Reader via Itunes

2020-11-22 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Dan,
One person on this list, Harry I think, uses itunes to copy large audio files
to VDR.
I find it too tedious for words and have never had good luck with it.
Hopefully he will reply.
But, if you have them on a USB thumb drive, there is an adapter you can buy
from Apple and probably Belkin and others, that with iOS 14 and 13 before that,
you can plug the adapter into power, and then it into your iPhone.
Then, plug in a USB drive into the adapter.
IN Voice Dream, hit add files.
Pick the file browser.
The screen you want is going to have a More button in the top left, then Voice
Dream Heading, Then a search field, Then a locations button that should say
expanded.
Then I have OneDrive, iCloud Drive, On My iPhone,
And then my USB drive.
Double tap on the drive and navigate to the mp3 or zip file and add it to VDR
as always.
The one I have is from Apple.
It is the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, $39.
I believe they also make these adapters with an SD card slot.

HTH,

Richard

Ok, I probably asked and received answers before about this but just can't
remember what was said.

I have a number of MP3 files I want to listen to via VDR. I can put them in
OneDrive and then move them into VDR but this takes a lot of data movement over
the internet. I'd like to avoid so much internet data traffic if I can.

Is there a way to move data such as files from a USB drive through Itunes to my
SE 2020 and then into VDR? I haven't found a way to get Itunes to see the USB
drive so that is my first problem but then I don't know how to get Itunes to
see VDR either.

any help would be very much appreciated.

If you are talking from the Ap,
Go to page 2 in the app, which is the Information Sources screen.
Select an item you want, be it a newspaper or magazine, etc.
Open the one you want, in the right hand upper corner there should be an Add
button.
Double tap that and then go back to page 1 in the app and it should be there.

RE: I O S 14.2 and Night Sky

2020-11-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Adding it to the rotor is a great idea, but it's even better to turn it off in
Voiceover settings fr everything and then to only turn it on for the apps where
you want it temporarily. If you want it permanently for any particular app you
can also do this in Settings.
I do the same for screen recognition, I have it added to the rotor and off by
default except for an app called 3CX. This is fr my business Voip phone system
and this app is entirely inaccessible except screen recognition makes it
probably 90% accessible, it's absolutely amazing and a great example of how
powerful this feature can be.

Hi Guys!

I got rid of those pesky scene descriptions on my 10 S Max by adding 'Describe
Images' to my Rotor. Then, whatever App I am in, I turn the Rotor to Describe
Image and flick up with one finger until I hear the word 'off'. For example,
when turning it off in Mail, VoiceOver will say, 'Describe images off for
Mail'; In Phone, Describe Image off for Phone, etc. Flicking again will turn it
back on, so be sure to turn the Rotor to something else like characters, words,
etc., to avoid this. HTH. Happy Holidays to all!

Best regards,

to turn off image description globally in the way that swiping up turns it off.
It is off in settings already, but that swiping up when it is in the rotor does
something else. I will write to Apple Accessibility later today and tell them

RE: Assisted touch

2020-11-22 Thread Richard Turner
I'd try turning it off again, and then power off your phone.
Power it up and see if it held the off setting.

If not, I'd call Apple Accessibility.

You didn't say which phone you have, but if it is an SE 2020 or any of the
phones without a home button, there is an easy way to do what you want.
Also, with older phones with home buttons.

Before you try the method for the newer phones like the SE 2020 or the ones
with no home button, I would suggest turning off the Emergency SOS that uses
the up volume plus side button.
Then, if you hold those two buttons in for about 6 to 10 seconds, the phone
will reboot.

If you use a pass code, it will ask for that when it comes back up.

With the older phones holding the power button/side switch and the home button
for about the same length of time also reboots those phones.

Subject: Assisted touch

Hello,

I saw a video on AppleVis about a quick way to restart your phone w/o powering
it off so thought I’d give it a try. It has to do with assigning assisted
touchto the restart selection. Anyway, it pops up way too often but now I
can’t get rid of it. I keep turning off assisted touch in setting, it tells me
that it’s off and then there it is...back again.

Can anyone tell me how to turn off assisted touch and make it stay off?

As always...thanks,

Kim

Re: I O S 14.2 and Night Sky

2020-11-22 Thread Gadget Girl

Re: Problem concerning IOS14.2 and VO not announcing incoming calls

2020-11-22 Thread Øyvind Lode
I've experienced this myself, but not on iOS 14.2.
Not yet at least.
The only fix I found to work was to reboot my phone and all well for a
while and then VO suddenly stopped announcing incoming calls again.
So, I started rebooting my phone more often to make sure everything
works as expected.
When upgrading to 14.2 I performed a reset to factory defaults
(deleted all settings and data) and the problem of VO not announcing
incoming calls seems to be gone now.
