Some questions about the Audible app

2021-02-24 Thread Jen .
Hi I just subscribed to Audible.com although I’m in Canada.
I installed the app on my phone but I have a few questions.
First is there a way in the app to view an entire category of books meaning I
can scan through several books but then it just seems to repeat them so
wondering if there is a way to go through an entire category or genre without
having to go on to the website.
Also if I decide to purchase a book is there a way to see the price of the book
instead of just letting me know I can buy for one credit so I can decide
whether it is best to use a credit or just cheaper to buy the book out right.
Is there anything else I should know or that would be helpful before I start
downloading and listening to books.
Finally I have an echo Dot and I am wondering how I can link my audible account
so that I can listen to the books I have in my library on my device.
Lastly when it comes to the different membership options which choice do some
of you guys have and why and what one do you feel provides the best value for
money.
Thanks in advance.
Jen

My wife and I have been thinking about an air fryer for a long time.
She decided to do some shopping via the internet. She came across one
called:

COSORI Smart Wi-Fi Air Fryer 5.8QT(100 Recipes), Digital Touchscreen
with 11 Cooking Presets for Air Frying, Roasting & Keep Warm ,Preheat &
Shake Remind, Works with Alexa & Google Assistant,1700W

  It is $107.99 at amazon.

The user guide is a fully accessible pdf that you can download from
the Cosori web site.

The setup could probably be done with the app without sighted
assistance because if you have the app open when you first plug it in, you
can select add a device, pick your model from the list and it walks you
through connecting it to your Wi-Fi network.

It even noticed we have an eligible Alexa device and connected it.

From a blindness perspective, the iOS app could use some adjustments,
so I decided to do my first experiment, using Alexa, which worked well.

Before your first use, you remove all tags, remove the basket, wash
the basket and the pan that the basket sits in, wipe off the surfaces of the
air fryer inside and out. After drying the washed basket, insert it again
into the air fryer.

I told Alexa, to preheat the Cosori at 400 degrees for 5 minutes. It
did.

The air fryer is not any noisier than our microwave oven.

  After 5 minutes, it beeped.

You pull out the basket and set it on a heat resistant surface and let
cool for at least 5 minutes.

Then, you put it back in and tell Alexa you want to cook a steak for 5
minutes at 400 degrees. (leave the basket empty, this is just a test.)

When it is done, remove the basket and again set it on a heat
resistant surface and let it cool for 10 to 30 minutes.

It did not take 10 minutes to cool.

You are then ready to cook your first dish. we decided to cook bacon.

Note, I let my wife put the bacon in the hot pan as I haven't gotten
my silicone gloves yet.

We use thick sliced apple wood smoked Hempler bacon.

You preheat it to 320 degrees for five minutes.

Remove the basket and place the bacon in the basket with at least 1/4
inch of space between the pieces. 6 slices fit with 5 left-to-right and one
vertical.

There is a bacon preset that cooks for 6 minutes at 320 degrees, we
ended up doing 8 minutes which had it done, but not burnt, and there was
very little grease.

(interesting factoid: bacon fat’s smoking temperature is 374 degrees.
So keeping it at a lower temperature reduces the smoke.)

We are hooked. Tonight, we did a whole roasted chicken.

It does not have a rotisserie attachment, so you cook it in the basket
and flip it half way through.

It says a 5 to 6 pound chicken will take one hour at 320 degrees.

Our chicken was a little over 5 pounds.

I used a herb and brown sugar dry-brined that is from the Once Upon A
chef web site that was designed for a 12-14 pound turkey. I cut the recipe
in half.

You do not need to preheat the air fryer for the whole chicken.

RE: my name in Zoom meetings

2021-02-24 Thread Deb Cook Lewis
Yes, if you do not have a name, Zoom will ask you to enter your name and email
to authenticate that you’re not a robot.

You do not actually have to enter your email, just something that looks like
one. So it must contain an at sign and a period. I have often used d...@d.com
which is definitely not an email address, let alone mine.
I do take the trouble to write at least my first name so I won’t be iPhone.

If you do this in the Zoom app, it can actually remember you if you check a box
foer that. You can do this without an account.

The supreme advantage to creating a free account is that you can actually save
lots of useful settings including ones for how much zoom chatters. And your
name will be there once for all. But even without it, you can make the signing
in process a little easier than it offers to be.

Re: Cosori air fryer review

2021-02-24 Thread Kay Malmquist
Hey Richard,
Where did you find the instructions for the bacon and the chicken? We have
done a lot of stuff in the air fryer and like it very much. we have a
Philips and think the air circulates in it a bit better and things get done
just a bit more evenly, but that isn't enough to make us not want to use the
Cosori. There are some really interesting recipes in the app as well.

My wife and I have been thinking about an air fryer for a long time. She
decided to do some shopping via the internet. She came across one called:

COSORI Smart Wi-Fi Air Fryer 5.8QT(100 Recipes), Digital Touchscreen with
11 Cooking Presets for Air Frying, Roasting & Keep Warm ,Preheat & Shake
Remind, Works with Alexa & Google Assistant,1700W

  It is $107.99 at amazon.

The user guide is a fully accessible pdf that you can download from the
Cosori web site.

The setup could probably be done with the app without sighted assistance
because if you have the app open when you first plug it in, you can select
add a device, pick your model from the list and it walks you through
connecting it to your Wi-Fi network.

It even noticed we have an eligible Alexa device and connected it.

From a blindness perspective, the iOS app could use some adjustments, so I
decided to do my first experiment, using Alexa, which worked well.

Before your first use, you remove all tags, remove the basket, wash the
basket and the pan that the basket sits in, wipe off the surfaces of the air
fryer inside and out. After drying the washed basket, insert it again into
the air fryer.

I told Alexa, to preheat the Cosori at 400 degrees for 5 minutes. It did.

When it is done, remove the basket and again set it on a heat resistant
surface and let it cool for 10 to 30 minutes.

It did not take 10 minutes to cool.

You are then ready to cook your first dish. we decided to cook bacon.

Note, I let my wife put the bacon in the hot pan as I haven't gotten my
silicone gloves yet.

We use thick sliced apple wood smoked Hempler bacon.

You preheat it to 320 degrees for five minutes.

Remove the basket and place the bacon in the basket with at least 1/4 inch
of space between the pieces. 6 slices fit with 5 left-to-right and one
vertical.

There is a bacon preset that cooks for 6 minutes at 320 degrees, we ended
up doing 8 minutes which had it done, but not burnt, and there was very
little grease.

(interesting factoid: bacon fat’s smoking temperature is 374 degrees. So
keeping it at a lower temperature reduces the smoke.)

We are hooked. Tonight, we did a whole roasted chicken.

It does not have a rotisserie attachment, so you cook it in the basket and
flip it half way through.

It says a 5 to 6 pound chicken will take one hour at 320 degrees.

Our chicken was a little over 5 pounds.

I used a herb and brown sugar dry-brined that is from the Once Upon A chef
web site that was designed for a 12-14 pound turkey. I cut the recipe in
half.

You do not need to preheat the air fryer for the whole chicken.

You put it in the basket and either set it for 1 hour at 320 degrees or
tell Alexa to cook for 1 hour at 320 degrees.

Half way through, you pause the cooking and flip the chicken over.

After it is done, you let it set for 15 minutes.

Let me just say that I will never use the regular oven for a whole chicken
again!

It was perfect. Very moist and the skin was quite crispy, but not burnt.

When my gloves arrive, I will be able to do the whole process
indepentently with Alexa.

  Happy eating,

  Richard

Hey Kay, thanks so much for the tip! I tried telling Alexa to “start air

And yes, even though my husband had no warning before I bought the thing, he

The IRobot Home app is accessible with Voiceover on my iphone 8 running IOS

Two added expenses I did spring for were:
- two of the "electric fence" devices. We use them to keep the Roomba out of

last a long time.
- a "maintenance kit" containing spare brushes and so on. With the I3+ model,
there were no added extras with the Roomba purchase.
At some point I will doubtless need to buy replacement bags for the main vacuum

So far, so good.

even if you try to start cooking through the app, which is pretty well
accessible by the way, it still requires a press of the Start button on the
touch screen. But for the most part, I use Alexa for most functions. I loved
your whole chicken recipe though, and am tempted to try it myself. LOL I am
also curious about how steak would turn out, but I digress. :-)

with 11 Cooking Presets for Air Frying, Roasting & Keep Warm ,Preheat &
Shake Remind, Works with Alexa & Google Assistant,1700W
It is $107.99 at amazon.

From a blindness perspective, the iOS app could use some adjustments, so
I decided to do my first experiment, using Alexa, which worked well.

It

You put it in the basket and either set it for 1 hour at 320 degrees or
tell Alexa to cook for 1 hour at 320 degrees.
Half way through, you pause the cooking and flip the chicken over.
After it is done, you let it set for 15 minutes.

Hi Richard,

Wow, I actually have one of these air fryers myself, having just purchased it
within the past couple of weeks, and I still loved your review. LOL I’ll just
say that my family and I use ours pretty much every day. We have cooked a wide
variety of things in it so far, cinnamon rolls, biscuits, pork chops, chicken
tenders and nuggets, several types of fish, pizza rolls, etc. We have also
reheated several things such as leftover pizza and even shepherds pie. I did

Cosori air fryer review

my name in Zoom meetings

2021-02-24 Thread R Van Lant
Hi,
As it true for most of us, I'm doing a lot more meeting by Zoom and I often
attend via the app on my phone. If it's a large group meeting where the
attendees do not get to unmute, it seems that I'll get prompted to register and
enter my display name and email. My annoyance is for those meetings that are
more casual where I'm just directly connected to the meeting. In these, my
display name always comes up as just "iPhone". I changed the name of my iPhone
in IOS Settings to include my name, but this doesn't carry over to the Zoom.
Does anyone know how I can change this? While in a meeting, I cannot find
anything in settings that ill allow me to change my display name. If I click
on the link in an email, the Zoom app loads and I'm not prompted to enter a
name. for others who attend via the Zoom app on the phone, have you found a
way to change this or is this just the default for all iPhone app users?

Re: Robotic Vacuums

2021-02-24 Thread Dave Clement
Hello,

I have the Roomba I3+ which does empty itself. I've only used it for a month or
so so far so I can't comment on replacement vacuum bags. While not as good as a
person, it does a good job dealing with our carpet and tile floors. It
certainly picks up a lot of cat hair from our three cats.

The IRobot Home app is accessible with Voiceover on my iphone 8 running IOS
14.4.

Two added expenses I did spring for were:
- two of the "electric fence" devices. We use them to keep the Roomba out of
areas we do not want it to enter. They are a bit pricey but I expect them to
last a long time.
- a "maintenance kit" containing spare brushes and so on. With the I3+ model,
there were no added extras with the Roomba purchase.
At some point I will doubtless need to buy replacement bags for the main vacuum
into which the Roomba empties its little dustbin.

So far, so good.

Re: Robotic Vacuums

2021-02-24 Thread Kimberly
I forget what series room but I have, but it is not one of the ones that
empties it self. By the way I totally recommend that you get one that empties
it self because emptying it every hour or less is really a pain in the butt. As
someone else said the app is totally accessible and overall the job that it
does is adequate, though it isn’t the same as having someone actually run the
vacuum manually. But at least I don’t have to run it myself. LOL!

If you are meaning restart your phone,

Hole the volume up for a second,
Then the volume down for another second or so and then press the power button

Perhaps reset is not the right word. In the iPhone 6S I pressed the home button
and the power button altogether when I wanted to reset or whatever is called,
and the phone returned itself. But in the SE this doesn’t work.
I used to do that when I ran into any problem.
I don’t mean to turn off the phone. It’s like restart.

Hold in the power button it will then allow you to power down, double tap in
the upper left corner. Give it a few seconds and then hold in the power button
for several seconds. If you have any vision the apple will appear. Then
release the button and you should hear when the screen comes up. Then enter

Hello,

My wife and I purchased a Shark Ion robotic vacuum about a year ago and we have
been having some issues with it lately so we are considering switching to a
Roomba. I have a couple of questions for anyone on the list that uses a Roomba.

First of all, how accessible is the Roomba app with VoiceOver? The Shark app is
terrible right now with several unlabeled buttons. Fortunately I can operate
the vacuum with the Amazon Alexa skill, but I would prefer to be able to use
the app.

Second question is: which model of the Roomba would be a good one to go with? I
am currently looking at the series 7 because I would like to get one that can
empty itself once it goes back to the dock.

And finally, and probably most importantly are people satisfied with the job a
Roomba does with cleaning?

Any input from other Roomba owners will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

2021-02-24 Thread blindfaith38
Hello,

My wife and I purchased a Shark Ion robotic vacuum about a year ago and we
have been having some issues with it lately so we are considering switching
to a Roomba. I have a couple of questions for anyone on the list that uses a
Roomba.

First of all, how accessible is the Roomba app with VoiceOver? The Shark app
is terrible right now with several unlabeled buttons. Fortunately I can
operate the vacuum with the Amazon Alexa skill, but I would prefer to be
able to use the app.

Second question is: which model of the Roomba would be a good one to go
with? I am currently looking at the series 7 because I would like to get one
that can empty itself once it goes back to the dock.

And finally, and probably most importantly are people satisfied with the job
a Roomba does with cleaning?

Any input from other Roomba owners will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Scott Rumery

Hi Anthony,

Go to settings, accessibility, VoiceOver and voiceOver recognition. Here, you

Re: Question about reset

2021-02-24 Thread Brad Snyder
The correct term is hard restart.
On your iPhone SE 2020, try the following:
1. Quickly in succession, press the volume up button, followed by the volume
down button.
2. Press and hold the side button for about 5 to 8 seconds.
3. The device will begin the restart process, but will give no sound or haptic
indication that this is happening. After a short period of time, you should
hear voice over speak once the phone has completed the start up sequence.

HTH.

1. To disable the lock/unlock sound on iPhone XR, or any other iPhone, go to:
Settings > Sounds & Haptics, swipe to Lock Sound, located near the bottom of
the list, and perform a 1-finger double tap to toggle off.

2. When purchasing or downloading an app from the AppStore on iPhone, you must
quickly double-press the Side button, or Home button on devices without a Side
button, in order to confirm a purchase or download.

Supersense crashing

2021-02-24 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
I opened an email attachment that n the Mail app on my iPad Pro 2020 with
latest iOS. I hit Share button and selected to Recognize in Supersense. The
Supersense app opened and displayed the scanned text correctly. I double tap on
Share in order to share tgat text but tge Supersense app immediately crashed. I
tried a couple of times on the iPad Pro but same problem each time. I then did
the same on iPhone SE and had no problem.
Can anyone confirm?
Harry
