Just a curiosity I must address in this thread; how is it that one might keep
their iPhone in his/her back pocket without risking the wreckage of same?

I myself would live in wholesale terror for fear that I might forget that my
iPhone is in my back pocket that I might sit on it! This would likely have the
most unpleasant effect of reforming the iPhone such that it would no longer
work.

Just a “tongue-in-cheek” thought. 

RE: splitter to use wired earbuds while charging

2021-09-05 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I don’t have an otter box,
But my wallet case for my 11 pro max is meant to be according to the
manufactures wireless charging capable,

But it seems to depend on the day as to what it does,

I normally just take the case off the phone to put it on my wireless charger.
It’s a lot easier and it works.

This is something you have to check on the Otterbox website, most case
manufacturers indicate whether the different models they make are compatible

But I think we should stop perpetuating this thread with interesting
geographical facts, anybody who wants them can easily ask their digital

Even worse is the population of new Zealand which is the size of the UK
possibly slightly larger,
Has only 5 million population.

My city has approx. 130 thousand people give or take when students are at
university here.

But the main island of hong kong is small enough to fit in to our harbour area,
And hong kong has more people on that island than NZ’s population.
Sydney Australia has approx. 6 million people in their city,
Australia has approx. 21 million population,
Shanghi china has over that in their city.
I believe between china and india there is 3 billion people,
There are only 7.2 billion give or take on earth.

But even so,

Why does toast always land buttered side down?

And if aats always land on their feet when they drop,
What would happen if you glued a peace of buttered toast to a cats back,
buttered side up of course on the back,

Would the cat just keep rotating in mid air?

There is a huge difference between 1996 and now. I think I bought my first cell
phone around 1994, a big Motorola flip phone and it was quite expensive back
then. Also remember that it is a lot easier and more cost efficient to set up a
mobile network in a small country like England with a lot of people who all
want the technology. Think of this as a comparison:

In 2019 Canada's population was just over 37.5 Million, the United Kingdom had
a population of over 66 Million
The geographical size of Canada is 9,985,000 square Kilometers, that of the
United Kingdom is 242,495 square Kilometers
That means Canada is more than 41 times the size of the UK with a population
which is 43% less.
Its difficult to compare the UK to a province because our 3 small provinces,
Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are a lot smaller than the
UK with 5,660 square Km, 55,000 square Km and 72,000 square Km and the next
larger province, Newfoundland and Labrador is 405,212 square Km and then it
goes to Manitoba and Saskatchewan with 647,000 square Km and 660,000 square Km,
respectively.
All other provinces are significantly larger, Ontario is 1,076,000 square Km,
well over 4 times the size of the UK with a population of less than 15 Million
people. Imagine you take more than 4 times the population of Ontario and stick
that into a quarter of its size.

It sounds like the original questioner needs to check with the friend to make
sure that Siri has internet access.
That is the sound and message when Siri cannot get to the server; which may be
a problem of the past once iOS 15 is out.
And, I find Alexa and Siri about equally smart or stupid depending on the day
and how badly I want to know something.
There are plenty of examples where both of them fail miserably on what should
be easy questions.
So, I give credit where credit is due; and/or complaints where complaints are
due.

Whent that friend pushes his side button he hears a high and low sound and
something went wrong try again later.

He has done all things you maybe want to propose, putting off and on his iphone
doing a hard reset but nothing helps.

There is no overall problem with siri because his wife sitting next to him has
no problem with her iphone 11 he also has an iphone 11 pro.

Or ask google, which is what I should have done in the first lace. Allegedly,
it is compatible with wireless charging.

A pad is just a round disk very like a coaster for underneath a glass in size

think was a Belkin is about a quarter of an inch wider than my iPhone 11 on
each side, but of course the phone sticks out a lot further length wise.

If you have a wireless charging stand your phone stands on an angle, maybe not
45 degrees, but probably close to it and the one I also have and use in my
living room is more or less the same width as my iPhone 11 so it's super easy
to put it on there and on the bottom it has an edge which holds the phone in
the semi-upright position so it's always in the right place to charge and if
you do listen to the phone with wired headphones you are a bit less likely to
pull it out of alignment which is very easy if it is just sitting on top of a
round pad. If I want to use headphones with the stand I put it on the stand
upside down so the Lightning port is on the top because otherwise of course it
sits against the bottom edge of the stand and you can't plug in anything.

There is one other option which I haven't tried but which should work fine and
that would be to find a plastic box of some sort which is just big enough for
your iPhone, if you want to plug in a headset you could cut out a section of
the boxes bottom where the lightning jack is and then attach the charging pad
to the bottom of the box with double sided tape. This way you have the higher
edges of the box holding the phone in place.

Sieghard

Richard, That is an interesting idea. I had not thought about wireless
charging. Since my splitter came free to me when I made a previous purchase, I
had no idea it could be that expense to replace. I think I’ll try your
approach.

My solution when my adapter died was to go with a far less expensive wireless
charger.

Unless your SE 2020 is in a case that prevents using the wireless pad, I'd go
that route. I just bought one for about $17 while the adapter is $40.

So, two charging pads would be less than one adapter. I'll send the info again
on both the wired and wireless options once I dig them up.

Christopher, maybe it depends on who sits on it 

I personally can't stand having any size iPhone in my front jeans pockets,
it's OK in the back pocket, but I only do that sometimes in the house when I am
doing stuff and not sitting down. Otherwise I prefer a belt holster and the one
I currently have is nice because you can even use it without the belt because
the belt loop so to speak closes with a super strong magnet so I can even put
it inside the waist of a pair of jeans or shorts or whatever and the rare earth
magnet they use is so strong that it clamps together with the fabric in between
no problem.

The case is a very good quality leather with a small compartment in front of
the main phone compartment where you can put a credit card, cash or even a
rolled up set of wired Earbuds and it's by a company called Waterfield Design
in San Francisco I think. It is made in the US and hence quite expensive, I
think it was $89 US, but for me it's worth it.

It has a cut-out in the bottom where you can plug in wired Earpods when the
phone is in the case, but since my iPhone 11 fits inside the case with a
minimal case on it with a bit of friction I often just fold the leather flap
back and stick it behind my belt and this way I can put the iPhone in upside
down and plug in my Earpods.

The flap if you close it is also held in place with a magnet. It's a very high
quality and well-made case, but as I said, not cheap. On the other hand I used
to buy these cases with a plastic swivel belt clip and several time when I got
caught on something the belt clip broke and by the time I bought my third or
fourth of these cheaper cases I might as well have bought that one.

Well, I don't think an iPhone will be damaged if it's in your back pocket and
you sit on it. Plus, I think you'll notice it pretty quickly once you sit down,
so you can retrieve it before it takes too much of a prolonged strain. All that
being said, if you're worried about it then just don't ever put it in your back
pocket.

Re: !those who have IPhone 12 mini

2021-09-05 Thread Kelly Pierce
I want to clear up some confusion about the supposed terrible battery
on the iPhone Mini. It is better than earlier iPhones. The iPhone 12
Mini has a battery capacity of 2200 MAH with 15 hours of video
playback and 50 hours of audio playback. The iPhone 7 released in 2016
had a battery capacity of 1960 mAH and 13 hours of video playback and
40 hours of audio playback. the iPhone 8 released in 2017 had 1821 mAH
and also had 13 hours of video playback and 40 hours of audio
playback. The same battery life of the iPhone 8 applies to the iPhone
SE, second generation available in stores now.

I have an iPhone 7 bought in October 2016 and have not yet replaced
the battery. I can still get through most of the day with it,
considering I have the screen on zero brightness, force quit most of
my apps, and have limited active use. For those worried about battery
life, apply battery conservation measures.

Hi.

A few days ago, I received some calls. They’re from different numbers, but they
all concern the same thing. I’m starting to put pieces together, and I’m
beginning to think I might want a permanent record of these numbers and the
time and date stamp on them. Is there a way to do this from recent calls? I’d
like to do this sooner than later, because they’ll eventually drop out of there.

Just wondering.

There is one other option which I haven't tried but which should work fine and

My solution when my adapter died was to go with a far less expensive wireless
charger.
Unless your SE 2020 is in a case that prevents using the wireless pad, I'd go
that route. I just bought one for about $17 while the adapter is $40.
So, two charging pads would be less than one adapter. I'll send the info again

Ukraine is in Europe and was in the western part of the Soviet Union, but
Russia is also in Europe. In fact, it's the largest and most populous country

Yes, Russia is still the largest country according to land mass. Remember it's
still part of Europe and then thanks to Siberia extends all the way to the
Pacific, so it's spans the entire continent of Asia.

But also interestingly

Hi Mich,

in 2019 in Canada there were just under 92 mobile subscriptions registered per
100 people and in the uK that number was just over 119.

So while more subscriptions were registered in the UK, the fact is that there
not all that many people any more in Canada who don't have a mobile phone
especially in the regions where most of the population lives. You have to keep
in mind of course that Canada as the second largest country in the world is so
huge and that there are still a number of people living in areas where there is
not even cellular coverage and I bet if you looked at the above statistic for
people living in larger population centres that this number would be higher as

And British Columbia, the province on the west coast of Canada just above

the size of the UK.
But I think we should stop perpetuating this thread with interesting
geographical facts, anybody who wants them can easily ask their digital

etc. Pretty much all of them, Alexa, Google and SIRI will answer those. Of

Hi,

I think she is asking about a totally different product. I don’t think she is
asking about family sharing on Apple. She is wanting to share Amazon Prime. I
wish i had an answer, but if you want, i can post the accessibility number for
Amazon here and you can give them a call.

Open settings, at the top is your name, apple ID, icloud, media & purchhases,

you are sharing services with are there. Can't recall if you swipe or tap on

Hi,

I have family members sharing my Amazon Prime and I need to remove one and add
another. It used to be very easy to do that, but I can't locate the area to
make the change. I've looked under my Prime settings, but unless I'm missing
it, it isn't there. Does anyone know where to locate the information for
removing and adding members to your Family Prime membership?

Thanks.

RE: siri is nolonger working for a friend of mine

2021-09-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I think it would be a good idea to cut Apple a bit of slack until a few weeks
after iOS 15 is released. I am often first to point out how stupid SIRI can
sometimes be especially after being around for such a long time and compared to
Google Assistant and Alexa which are both a lot younger.
However, a lot more SIRI functionality will be done on device after iOS 15 is
released although I assume you need a recent model of iPhone which has the
processing power for this, but if you have whichever phone model has the
minimum requirement for this one would hope that SIRI becomes a lot more
responsive if not everything has to be sent to the cloud for processing.

Depending on your preference you may want to look for a wireless charging
stand/cradle instead of a pad.
A pad is just a round disk very like a coaster for underneath a glass in size
and you have to more or less centre your iPhone on it. The one I have which I
think was a Belkin is about a quarter of an inch wider than my iPhone 11 on
each side, but of course the phone sticks out a lot further length wise.

I myself would live in wholesale terror for fear that I might forget that my
iPhone is in my back pocket that I might sit on it! This would likely have the
most unpleasant effect of reforming the iPhone such that it would no longer
work.

Just a “tongue-in-cheek” thought. 

You can request a paper copy of all calls to your number for each month for as
long as you need the info. I say print copy, because I can't read braille yet.
There is a charge. This type of info would be more acceptable in a court

I would never get an iPhone 12 mini because of the poor battery life.
I listen to a lot of audio books and music, so I need a very good
battery. Turning off my screen with screen curtain on, really does
help prolong my battery life. I can tell a difference if I accidently
keep the screencurtain off.

Re: !those who have IPhone 12 mini

2021-09-05 Thread Bill Gallik
Just a curiosity I must address in this thread; how is it that one might keep
their iPhone in his/her back pocket without risking the wreckage of same?

I myself would live in wholesale terror for fear that I might forget that my
iPhone is in my back pocket that I might sit on it! This would likely have the
most unpleasant effect of reforming the iPhone such that it would no longer
work.

Just a “tongue-in-cheek” thought. 
