Ability to subscribe to a magazine through an Iphone app accessibly

2022-06-14 Thread Ketan Kothari
Hi friends,

There are some apps such as Magzster that enable us to subscribe to
magazines but they are totally inaccessible. So, I am wondering if
there is any app that allows us to subscribe to various magazines. I
am in India and both Bookshare and Apple news are not available to me
for this purpose. Please do help if anyone knows about this.

With best wishes,

Ketan

Re: Why don’t messages delete everywhere if you delete them on the watch or on the phone?

2022-06-14 Thread Mary Otten
Well, I just double checked in my phone. Two factor is on, which I already knew
but I checked it anyway. And messages is also on according to how you check it
in that article that you sent. It’s just not working right. I have storage
space left. Very bizarre and annoying.

I’m pretty sure I have asked this question before, but since we just saw
WWDC Keynote and all the other stuff, and there was absolutely nothing
said about this in either the Keynote or all the little articles about
stuff Apple didn’t mention, I just wonder. I would think that it would be
extremely annoying for pretty much everybody who has a Watch and a phone
and who gets messages on both devices, to have to delete all conversations
not just once on whichever device you used to read it initially, but
again, on your other device. I know it’s annoying to me, and I don’t get
boatloads of texts every day like some people do. Am I missing something?
Surely, there should be a way where if you delete something on one of your
devices such as a text message, it goes away everywhere else. That seems
 elementary.

RE: I have a question that's possibly off topic regarding accessible security system

2022-06-14 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
This is the real world application drawback for us. For sighted folks, it’s no
big deal as they can just at a glance see in the notification screen capture or
check the history if it was an Amazon or UPS driver doing a tuck and roll
delivery which often it can be. Very rarely does anyone hang around after
ringing the doorbell anymore

I’ve had a sign at my front door for years saying “no surveys, cermons or
solicitations” which has thankfully cut down on most of the unwanted traffic to
my doorbell.

In practicle terms though, the Ring doesn’t really add that much to the blind
user experience in my oppinion at least. Mainly for the reasons mentioned
above. It’s still good to have should something shady were to ever go down and
have a record of it. The most exciting thing we ever captured was I think a
bird of prey totally annihilating a dove or some small bird on our front lawn
in the early morning.

Every blue moon I’ll still get a persistent solicitor or someone who wants to
save my soul though and that’s when I appreciate having something like the
Ring. Please read the sign. Thank you, but no. We’re not interested. Again, no.
Dude… can’t you read? Please leave. I’m not opening the door. Beat it. Now.
Lady, get lost. We’re not buying what you’re selling.

I wonder why Apple hasn't come up with the iBell or some such that functions
like Facetime. This would be a doorbell device that when pressed, your phone
rings and you answer it like answering a call. I have an Amcrest Smart
doorbell and the ap is so inconvenient that by the time I get through the
screens to answer the doorbell, the person has left. the Amcrest was supposed
to have a desktop version that I would be able to answer my door on my
computer, but it is totally inaccessible.

Just don’t totally rely on what the Nest app says is correct, it works, but
there are times when it mixes up people. You also have to tell the app first
who is who.

That sounds cool. I hadn’t heard of that feature with the nest. A great

Final note. I was able to go back into the message settings and reset the

Re: Why don’t messages delete everywhere if you delete them on the watch or on the phone?

2022-06-14 Thread Barry Abbott
A cautionary note.

It is working but I seem to have retrieved an an awful lot of messages. When I
first started it it said the messages would be safe forever until you delete
them. Once I started deleting them it gave me the message that it would be
deleted from all devices. So it may be a bit of a headache at first but once I
get rid of the messages hopefully I won’t be able to delete them as they come
through. Hope this helps.

I found out how to turn on iCloud Sync ifromthe iMore web site. Essentially
what you have to do first is turn on apple two factor authentication and then
once you have that done you go into your Apple ID again, then iCloud and check

I saw that too, but after playing around with that mirror my iPhone toggle, it
just refers to mirroring your message notification settings and not the
messages themselves.

I checked my Apple Watch settings and I have messages set to mirror my iPhone.
This would lead me to believe that when you delete a message from your iPhone
it should delete that message from your watch but no, this does not work. I
even went into the settings on my watch and although I could see other apps for
some reason I could not see the messages app.

Very strange!

Not everybody may have a sighted spouse, however.

I do have one, but if I were to follow that logic I could just say that is what
my sighted employees are for when it comes to reading stuff to me, helping me
with whatever etc. Of course not everybody is in a position where he or she has
between 2 and 4 sighted employees nearby between 9 AM and 6 PM.

Just don’t totally rely on what the Nest app says is correct, it works, but
there are times when it mixes up people. You also have to tell the app first
who is who.

Not everybody may have a sighted spouse, however.
I do have one, but if I were to follow that logic I could just say that is what
my sighted employees are for when it comes to reading stuff to me, helping me

Just don’t totally rely on what the Nest app says is correct, it works, but
there are times when it mixes up people. You also have to tell the app first

hi, everyone, the Fitbit itself is not accessible. I had to have a friend of

RE: Photos

That works very well, Richard, thanks.

Subject: RE: Photos

Well, the photos app is accessible, but it takes time to learn how to navigate
it.

If you are not used to computers or haven’t spent much time learning the ins
and outs, then it will take some patience to learn how to make it work for you.

There are four tabs along the bottom of the photos app.

>From left to right,

Library

For you

Albums

Search

If you select the Library tab, it will show you what’s in the photo library.

It tries to organize them for you, which is not intuitive.

I prefer to open the camera app, then find the Photo and Video viewer button
and open that.

This gives you a scrolling item of all your photos.

When you touch the take picture button, a single finger flick right should put
you on the Photo and Video Viewer button. Double Tap.

Along the bottom of the screen are tabs:

Share,

Favorite,

Info,

Edit,

Delete.

Those all refer to whatever photo is selected.

Just above that bottom row of buttons is the Photo Chooser.

It should say a number of a number, like 1 of 26.

If you are wanting to go to a previous photo, You flick down with one finger.

If you want to go to the next photo, you flick up with one finger.

You are scrolling the list.

You can then take action on whatever photo you have selected.

With that many photos, you have a lot of tedious work to do, but I know of no
other format that is more accessible.

Maybe someone else does.

The book, Capturing and Sharing the World, by Judy Dixon available from the
National Braille Press in the following formats:

Braille ($18.00)
DAISY Download ($18.00)
DAISY (on USB drive) ($20.50)
eBraille (download) ($18.00)
eBraille (on USB drive) ($20.50)
Word File (Download) ($18.00)
Word file (on USB drive) ($20.50)

Chapter 3 talks all about storing and organizing your photos. But the book is
full of details about the Camera app settings, accessibility, and techniques
for a blind person to take good photos.

The link to the National Braille Press page for the book is:

What am I doing wrong or, how can I migrate all the photos using only my

RE: I have a question that's possibly off topic regarding accessible security system

2022-06-14 Thread Johna Gravitt
By the way, is the below message supposed to be funny, I sure did not find it
humorous!
Actually it’s a bit crude to women and offensive!

Hey man… that’s what sighted spouses are for. Earn your keep sweety and start
tagging people as you see them.

You also have to tell the app first
who is who.

That sounds cool. I hadn’t heard of that feature with the nest. A great
advancement for the blind community.

RE: I have a question that's possibly off topic regarding accessible security system

2022-06-14 Thread Johna Gravitt
I had a sighted spouse, and quite honestly sometimes it’s better to do things
myself, being as independent as possible!
I have nothing against asking for help and allowing sighted people to help, but
to say that’s what sighted people are for just promotes the stereotype for
individuals who are blind or disabled can’t do things on our own!

To add to Richard's contribution:
To jump to the top or bottom of a email or text message that you are composing
press option up or down arrow.
To move by word forward or back option right or left arrow.
To select by word add the shift key to the previous command.
To select from cursor to the beginning or end. option+shift+up or down arrow
