Hi Group,

The Book Share program itself now has its own app. It is free and while
a bit limited, it does read book share books quite well and the recent
addition of a bookmark feature makes it usable in that limited context.

So I opened up the app again and got the banner at the bottom of the
screen. Not sure if I’ll sign onto the $60, but honestly, I more than
got my money’s worth and then some for this app if this is the case.

I believe BookPlayer also has an in-app payment option for cloud
storage and syncing.

For some folks, the 60 bucks for VDR might even be worth it as you can
use just one app for both eBooks and audiobooks. Everyone knows their
own budget though.

Re: Making everyone pay for voice dream

2024-03-25 Thread Grant Hardy
I would like to point out that if my understanding is correct, charging a
subscription for features you previously bought as a one-time purchase is
actually against Apple's developer guidelines. This is why, for example,
the Weather Gods app charges all new users a subscription for push
notifications, but previous users are allowed to have access to push alerts
without a subscription as previously agreed upon.

I am curious to see how this unfolds, because it's definitely something
that should be reported to Apple if they make our previous purchases null
and void. This isn't just idle complaining, this is actually against the
iOS developer guidelines—again, if my understanding is correct.

Voice Dream Reader has introduced a ton of data tracking as of late too,
just check App Privacy Reports to see the domains it's reaching out to. I
have loved Voice Dream Reader for over a decade, but I think long-term
another solution or app is going to be needed.

I don't think dismissing users' complaints here is really appropriate,
because the reality is that users agreed upon certain features and paid a
substantial fee to access them. It's unreasonable for that to be yanked
away with an app update which in some cases may happen automatically.

I can’t believe all this negative talk about not wanting to pay $60 per
year for voice dream reader. For me, it is one of the best apps out there
for reading both ebooks and audio content. I’ll tell you all some of the
recent changes the new owners have done for us all. They have recently
allowed audio files in M4a format to properly. When you want to change a
reading voice for a bookshare book, you now have a search option quickly
find the voice you want. You also don’t have to pay for these voices
either. You did have to pay around $5 per voice before. So please stop
complaining and pay the $60 per year if you can. If people pay the money,
think of how much better the app will be. I’ve pcht a lot of time into
putting audio books and audio dramas on voice dream reader with iTunes to
not pay the $60 price. When we found out that voice dream reader might be
charging a subscripttion fee this shouldn’t be a surprise !o anyone. So
please if you can, pay the $60!!!

sold Voice Dream LLC., he made it clear that he would have had to begin
charging a subscription to be able to maintain development and he had already
started the Mac version as a subscription.

$59 a year seems perfectly reasonable to me if you want the app to continue.

You can always dump it for DAISY Easy Reader or Speech Central and deal with
much harder interfaces and keep it free…

Lots of complaining on this I’ve got to say.

Simple solution, if you don’t want to pay, go and find some other app that fits
your needs.

If you do, continue to enjoy using an app that works mostly flawlessly and
certainly is, in my opinion, worth the $60 per year.

Cheers,

Not only unexpected, but really odd, why some users get an e mail message while
others are completely left in a limbo…. Suspicious to say the least anyway,
thank you Reggie for the info.

The email said it starts on May 1. When I went to the link, it showed me that
it was $59 a year. It had all kinds of things they had done and why they would
change to everyone. I bought it I think for five dollars. I was one of the
first people to buy it I think. It said that on May 1, you will no longer be
able to download anything. I use it only for books share and I’m very sorry
that it’s going.

I have not updated today.

But, if anyone wants to go back and look at what Winston Chen had said when he
sold Voice Dream LLC., he made it clear that he would have had to begin
charging a subscription to be able to maintain development and he had already
started the Mac version as a subscription.

$59 a year seems perfectly reasonable to me if you want the app to continue.

You can always dump it for DAISY Easy Reader or Speech Central and deal with
much harder interfaces and keep it free…

So I opened up the app again and got the banner at the bottom of the screen.
Not sure if I’ll sign onto the $60, but honestly, I more than got my money’s
worth and then some for this app if this is the case.
I believe BookPlayer also has an in-app payment option for cloud storage and
syncing.
For some folks, the 60 bucks for VDR might even be worth it as you can use just
one app for both eBooks and audiobooks. Everyone knows their own budget though.

Wow! I certainly didn’t get an email like that. You would no longer be able to download anything? So you have the app on your machine and it becomes useless to download from a book share? OK. That kind of stinks like maybe they should let you keep your current app and it should still work, but no more upgrades? If they’re all proud of their great upgrades that are so useful, they should be doing things that people are willing to pay for. I don’t remember any recent upgrades that have been all that special. Bug fixes that are incomplete to say the least. My iPhone is once again not downloading stuff that comes to my iPad. So I don’t think these developers are in Winston‘s league. RE: Making everyone pay for voice dream

2024-03-25 Thread leobado1982
Well, if you want to throw some light on this, ask someone for assistance when
you launch VDR, so that you can turn off voice over. Apparently, double tap on
the learn more link makes the banner go away, so we’re deep in the woods here.

Cheers,

Leo Bado.

Does anyone know how to stop Siri / Safari from opening a default app in iOS?

2024-03-25 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I've been fighting a terrible, terrible cold for the last week and, as a
result, have not been able to post some articles to the list. I am just now
beginning to feel a tiny bit better and so wanted to use what little energy
I have to post a question to which I cannot find the answer:

Scenario:
1.
Ask Siri to perform a web search by saying something like, "Search the web
for 'What is Amazon Music Unlimited, single'."

2.
Siri will respond with something like, "OK, I found this on the web for
'What is Amazon Music Unlimited, single'. Check it out."

3.
There will now be 3 items on the display. If you select the first item,
which is usually the answer given by Amazon, instead of opening the answer
in Safari, the Amazon app will open, which has absolutely nothing to do with
your search query.

I find this maddening. And now, even the Google app is doing the same
thing. This is to say, instead of opening a web browser, it will launch the
Amazon app.

Does anyone know how to stop this behavior?

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

It was a wonderful app, but I am done with it. As with
MBraille I was one of the first to buy it for I think 5

Just received a message voice dream is going to cost 59 dollars a year now. A
pet peeve of mine is everything requires a subscription. I see nothing in there
reasons for this that affects me. So, nice I had it for so long. It was a
wonderful app, but I am done with it. As with MBraille I was one of the first
to buy it for I think 5 dollars. Makes me want to cry to lose it, but much more
important places to put my money. On Social Security with a guide dog and so
guess it goes away. Still want to cry after all the books from Bookshare it has
read to me.

  Hi Vicki,

You don't mention which Dropbox bottomline toolbar button has focus when
unable to navigate by headings. It sounds as if the Files button might have
focus and I don't believe that screen uses headings. When focus is on my Home
bottomline toolbar button, I'm able to easily navigate among its headings using
the rotor.

Just so I am understanding correctly, are you saying that normally you can
navigate inside a Dropbox folder by heading for each letter of the alphabet?

The only headings I have within a folder is folders and files. In order to
go to a specific file, I have to just swipe until I get there. This is on my
iPhone. I do not have an iPad mini. And I tried every layout style choice.

Trying asking Siri to read messages, and when she reads from family chat,
if she doesn't ask if you want to reply, get her to reply to famiy chat.

I was on a group chat liast qt my church, and there was a time, when all
these names would read out on the thing, but it seems like it quit, and
now I'm not going there, so am not getting them. My sister has a small

Hi,

One of my family members has a group chat which she has added me to. it
is the type of group chat which is created and then people are manually
added so they can take part.

Here is an example to explain it better.

Mary creates a chat and calls it "Family Chat."

She then invites people through the add option to be part of that chat
and anyone who joins can add someone as well.

There are 16 people in this chat, all of whom are in my contact list.
When the messages come in, they show up as being from "Family Chat."

How can I reply to or create a message by using SIRI. Normally I would
just say "Send a message to whoever and then I could speak the message,
it would repeat it and give me the option to send.

Since it is coming up as "Family Chat," how can I either reply to or
initiate an original message without saying all 16 names separately?

Hope that makes sense.

Vicki

Re: taking part in a group chat

2024-03-25 Thread Vicki W.
I'm really confused why this isn't working for me. I've tried it on both my
IPad and my phone and both of them reply with not having a phone number or
address for the name of the group I'm giving SIRI.

When you do this, do you have a message open to your family chat or can it
be done from the home screen without the chat being opened?

Thanks.

Vicki

I have a family chat with my family. If I want to send a message to the
chat, all I do is tell Siri, send a message to family Chat. She comes back
and ask me what I want to say. Just like it does when I want to send
someone a message.

Hope this helps.

Chris

Trying asking Siri to read messages, and when she reads from family chat,
if she doesn't ask if you want to reply, get her to reply to famiy chat.

I was on a group chat liast qt my church, and there was a time, when all
these names would read out on the thing, but it seems like it quit, and
now I'm not going there, so am not getting them. My sister has a small
chat group, and I ask Siri to read message, and when Siri asks me if I
want to reply, I dictate a reply.

Hi,

One of my family members has a group chat which she has added me to. it is
the type of group chat which is created and then people are manually added
so they can take part.

Here is an example to explain it better.

Mary creates a chat and calls it "Family Chat."

She then invites people through the add option to be part of that chat and
anyone who joins can add someone as well.

There are 16 people in this chat, all of whom are in my contact list. When
the messages come in, they show up as being from "Family Chat."

How can I reply to or create a message by using SIRI. Normally I would
just say "Send a message to whoever and then I could speak the message, it
would repeat it and give me the option to send.

Since it is coming up as "Family Chat," how can I either reply to or
initiate an original message without saying all 16 names separately?

Hope that makes sense.

Vicki

dropbox issue

2024-03-25 Thread Vicki W.
Hi,

After updating my mini IPad 5 to the latest IOS version, the headings in
Dropbox are not showing up. I have the most recent version of Dropbox and it
was working fine until I updated the IOS.

When inside a dropbox folder, even though I've changed nothing as far as
settings, I can no longer go from numbers to letters and go between letters
using the headings option in the rrotor. Anyone else had this issue and can it
be fixed?

Dropbox with the same Dropbox version is working fine on my phone.

Thanks.
