Anyone Tried Tame

2024-02-18 Thread Kelly Ford
So,

They spent at least $7 million on the one Super Bowl ad I caught and maybe more
if they rant it more than once. I’m curious if anyone has tried the Tamu iOS
app?

I gave it a spin last evening and it didn’t seem to work very well with
VoiceOver. Focus jumped all over the place, text that seemed like you should be
able to act on it, didn’t do anything when double tapped and more.

Even the Add to Cart button was named Add to Card for me.

This was just a quick measurement so probably not as precise it as it could be

Well, they do not recommend more than one layer as the air has to be able to
circulate around the food.
When they are talking chicken wings, I suspect they mean the kind you would get
at a bar, which only has the meaty portion and not the little flat wing section.
And since I don't do chicken wings, I don't really know about their sizes.
But, yes, the large basket is geared probably for larger items, including their
cake pan, bread pan, pizza pan ... we can do enough sweet potato fries or pot
stickers for two in ours which I think may be a little smaller than yours.

I'd appreciate it if you could get the size of the basket at some point. NO
hurry.

Sorry, richard. I don’t know the inner dimensions of the pan yet. Can’t find it
anywhere online, and I forgot to ask my sided spouse, but I shall do so later
today. Also, and I guess this is really getting off-topic, since it’s not a
technical question. What the heck is the point of this big pan/basket if you’re
only supposed to put food in one layer? I get how you could do a chicken, a
whole big piece of meat whatever.but is it really true that even with the two
burners you should only put one layer? The pan is substantially smaller than a
sheet pan, so a whole bunch of chicken wings for instance, which they say you
can do, how? You probably couldn’t put more than maybe four big chicken wings
in that basket in one layer. That’s a far cry from I think 17 that they
advertised. I don’t get it.

Re: Amazon App

2023-11-10 Thread Kelly Ford
As near as I can tell, the issues I’m in countering seem to depend on which
advertisements you get. There seem to be some videos and other actions on some
ads that are causing voiceover focus to go all over the place.

Re: Apple news, crossword puzzles

2023-11-08 Thread Kelly Ford
I have had a bit of success and also spoke to Apple support.

So far the best I can determine, you will have the best success by switching
this game into list-view and then swiping through the clues double tapping on
the one you want to enter text for. You will not get any indication that you
are editing that clue. Also, if you delete letters, they are not announced.

Apple news, crossword puzzles

2023-11-08 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

When I updated my iPhone, it came with a three month subscription to Apple
news. Tonight I noticed they added crossword puzzles, but I’m wondering if
anyone has figured out how to play these with voiceover?

When you play a game, if you tap on a button called list view, you can step
through the different clues and hear how many blanks there are but for
example, I found no way to properly enter letters.

Audio Destinations Between iPhone and Bluetooth Speakers

2023-11-04 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

Does anyone know how things are supposed to work when connecting a Bluetooth
speaker with respect to voiceover audio? It was my impression that the
VoiceOver audio should then go to the Bluetooth speaker.

I recently connected a JBL flip six to my phone, and the interesting thing is
that voiceover audio stayed on the phone while music from apps, such as
Pandora, Plex and others went to the speaker. This was actually great, but the
one app where this didn't work was Amazon Alexa. As soon as I opened that app,
VoiceOver audio switch to the Bluetooth speaker.

I would love to be in control such that as I said, I can assure music and other
audio sources go to the Bluetooth speaker when I choose, and independent of
that I can control where VoiceOver audio goes. I tried looking under audio
voiceover settings, but that doesn't seem to let me choose between devices,
just left/right on a device.

This is very interesting.

I am also running Parallels on my Mac. The audio goes to mono only when I load
JAWS inside the parallel VM. If I don’t run JAWS, then the Mac audio works

Phone audio with various headsets

2023-10-01 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

If I connect wired USB-C headphones to my iPhone, and make a phone call, the
audio for the call goes directly to the Headphones. If I connect a USB-C to 3.5
mm headphone adapter, and then headphones to that Jack, the audio will not go
to the Headphones during a call, but stays on the phone. Does anyone know why
the difference, especially since I am connecting a USB-C device to the phone in
both cases.

If it matters, both the USB-C, headphones and adapter are made by Apple and I’m
using the iPhone 15 Pro.

Kelly.

Re: Be My AI soon available for Be My Eyes users on iOS

2023-09-25 Thread Kelly Ford
That is kind of funny to hear describe things as a cozy room. I took a picture
of my living room, and it called it a cozy room as well.

I was at a restaurant earlier today and tried the same technology on the menu
and it did a great job at reading everything off the menu

On Sep 25, 2023, at 1:12 PM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote:

The amount of detail you get from Be My AI when you take a picture of a photo,
painting or even just a room is amazing.
I just randomly snapped a picture towards one side of our bedroom the other day
and here is what Be My AI described:

The picture shows a cozy room with wooden flooring. On the left side, there is
a wooden dresser with five drawers and a small TV on top of it. The wall above
the dresser is plain with a light gray color.

On the right side, there is a window with a white horizontal blind. The window
has a wooden frame that matches the color of the dresser.

In the bottom right corner, there is a wooden chair with armrests and a
cushioned seat with a patterned fabric. There are clothes draped over the back
of the chair.

In the bottom center of the picture, there is a dog lying on a gray mat. The
dog is light-colored, possibly a Labrador or a similar breed. Next to the dog,
there is an orange toy.
The room appears to be well-lit with natural light coming from the window.

All of the above is spot on including the fact that I do have a yellow, almost
white labrador guide dog.
The only "incorrect" description is the small TV, it is in fact my open laptop
on top of the dresser. But I was holding the phone at about hip height when I
was lying on my bed and the dresser is a bit higher, only the screen would be
visible and not the keyboard.

Announcing Be My AI with a screenshot of the app demonstrating Be My AI's
describing capabilities
Hi dennis,

We are thrilled to announce that Be My AI will soon be available to hundreds of
thousands of Be My Eyes users on iOS devices worldwide!

Thanks to the tremendous work of over 19,000 beta testers and the team at Be My
Eyes, we’re moving to an open beta phase and releasing Be My AI to our
iPhone users starting this week. Over the next few weeks we will be adding more
and more users every day, so that soon everyone using an iOS device will
have direct access to our new AI-powered feature. Make sure to keep your app
updated.

While using Be My AI is not intended to replace a white cane or a guide dog,
using it in your everyday life is powerful, quick and simple. Once you have
access, open the Be My Eyes app, click on the ‘Be My AI’ tab, and take a
picture of just about anything. Be My AI will give you a detailed description
of it, and you can chat and ask further questions to get more information. Be
My AI is available now in any of 19 languages, with more to come.

And don’t worry - if Be My AI can’t answer all your questions, if you want to
check its results, or if you just need a little more assistance than Be My
AI can provide, you still can easily reach one of our dedicated volunteers,
just like before.

You can
learn more about Be My AI and how to use it in our new blog post
or by visiting the
Help Center
on our website.

This global release of Be My AI into an open beta test means that hundreds of
thousands of people will now be able to experience this exciting new tool.
Make sure to share the news with your friends, family and colleagues!

Right now we’ll only be releasing Be My AI with users who use iOS devices. But
Android users fear not. We are currently in a closed beta test of Be My
AI on Android devices, and we hope to make it more broadly available for open
beta testing in the coming months. If you are interested in joining the Android
beta test, you can already
sign up for the Android waitlist
in the Be My Eyes app.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at

And happy exploring!

P.S: Do you know another blind or low-vision person who can benefit from this
new feature? Make sure to forward this email to them and invite them to try out
Be My AI on the Be My Eyes app!
Thank you!

Re: Pro vs Max

2023-09-25 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi Mary,

The screen on this 15 Pro is pretty much, the same as it was as far as size on
the 10 R. For me, who does most of my typing with the touch keyboard on the
phone, it has been the same as typing on the iPhone XR. Those really been no
change in the experience, so no time to adapt.

As I mentioned, part of the driving factor for me, upgrading, was planning for
next year‘s releases. I didn’t want to find myself in the case of feeling
compelled to buy the iPhone 15 Pro next summer, just to use the new operating
systems, knowing there’d be a new model of the phone out in a few months at
that point.

2023-09-25 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi Mary,

I went with the newer phone now, because as I understand it next summer, I
won’t be able to update to the next version of iOS and if that’s going to be
the case, I decided I would get the newer model as early as possible because I
like to run test versions of the next OS release.

I will say the one other thing that I have noticed in how I use my phone that
is faster is the results of dictation being processed if I use the phone
dictation feature for text input.

I am generally someone who likes to keep my existing phone until I’m no longer
able to update the operating system. I had used my iPhone 5S until I bought the
10R.

I am told that pictures from the 15 are visually noticeably better, but I don’t
really have a way to quantify that. I mean, yes, I understand the megapixels
and such as far as the technical specifics. I don’t know yet, if that
translates to more detail when using the various artificial intelligence
services to describe photos.

Dynamic island

2023-09-24 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

Does voiceover actually work with dynamic island? I keep hearing it appearing,
but voiceover just says empty. This is with iOS 17 on an iPhone 15 and the
first time I have had access to this feature.

Sony LinkBuds and Pairing

2023-09-24 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

I have a bit of a quirky situation. I have a set of Sony LinkBud wireless
headphones that I’ve used for a couple years with success.

I was going to pair these with my new iPhone but am having a challenge. The
case for the headphones still seems to charge them just fine but if I hold down
the reset button to initiate pairing or reset of the pairing information, for
the listed times for either task, nothing seems to happen.

According to instructions, there should be different LED lights for various
modes. Sighted assistance tells me there is no lighting showing up.

I am hesitant to delete the pairing information from my old phone, where the
headphones still work since it doesn’t seem like so far I’m able to initiate a
new pairing request and or delete existing pairing info from the headphones. So
if I delete the pairing info from the older phone, I’m likely to end up with
headphones that no longer can be used.

Does anyone else have experience with these headphones? The reset button is a
small circular button just to the left of the USB-C port on the back side of
the headphone case.

I’m thinking the answer is no but on the off chance someone knows of some
second way to start a pairing request or reset the pairing info on the
headphones, I thought I’d ask. According to online instructions and what I’ve
done for years, a new pairing request is started by holding the reset button
for five seconds with the headphone case open. A complete factory reset is 15
seconds for the same button.

I’ve done both with success several times over the years.

Pro vs Max

2023-09-23 Thread Kelly Ford
I am curious for those of you who have chosen the 15 Max over the Pro, what
lead you to choose the Max? Battery life or something else. My understanding is
that the biggest differences are screen size, battery life and the depth for
zooming with the camera.

Hello,

With the iPhone 15 requiring USB-C headphones if you want to use something that
is wired and not an adapter, I’m curious what others have found as far as good
headphones in the space? I like to have at least one low-cost set of headphones
for my devices because the wires often wear out by putting the headphones in
and out of my pocket and such.

I did purchase the headphones at the following link from Amazon for just under
$10 and so far they have been working well.

USB C Headphones,USB Type C...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09ZV1KQ3F?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I have higher quality, wireless headphones for music and media listening, but
these work well for just basic text access. One nice thing that wasn’t obvious
to me from the description is these are magnetic at the end where the earbuds
are, which helps reduce clutter and tangling.

As I said, I’m curious what others are finding in the space.

Kelly.

Re: Looking for easy to use NFL scores app

2023-07-27 Thread Kelly Ford
One note about this app.

I’ve noticed that after an update, there is typically a description of what’s
changed near the bottom of the screen. VoiceOver doesn’t necessarily tell you
about this but you’ll try and change to a particular sport and it won’t change.
So find the update info near the bottom of the screen and dismiss it.

Hi,

I’ve seen no indication that the iOS app will be any better for accessibility
this year. I tried it again just yesterday.

Voiceover command question

2023-07-10 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

I was assigning a braille keyboard command and received the following message
about the key combination already being signed to an existing command. Does
anyone know what this command actually does?

‘Dot 1 + Dot 6 + Space bar’ is already being used to perform the
‘VOTEventCommandWordDescription’ command.

Do you want to replace this command?

Re: Aiko, new audio to text iOS app From Applevis.com

2023-04-30 Thread Kelly Ford
Interesting app. I tried it on the most recent episode of my podcast from
tptbnl.com. I usually use Office Online’s transcription
feature and more recently the same technology added to Word For Windows.

The positive, this is very accurate. It seems to take as long as the audio file
is though. My 52 minute audio file is at 40% and has taken 20 minutes so far.
That is on an iPhone 10R so newer models may be faster.

Looking in settings, I find that you can have timestamps for the transcript but
I don’t see the ability at this point to have speaker identification.

You can record audio or import from your iPhone or different online services.

Overall, this is pretty impressive to get this level of transcription accuracy
on the phone.

Export the transcription and edit it in a proper text editor.
‣ Why is the app so large? The app delivers the highest quality transcription
on the market for 100 different languages. Rather than asking why it's so
large, the real question is how is it so small.
‣ Why is the transcription so slow? The favors accuracy over speed. However,
performance is expected to improve in the coming months.
‣ Can I delete some of the languages to save space? This is unfortunately not
possible. The model has all the languages stored together in a way that makes
it impossible to remove just some languages. More FAQs on the website.

RE: OverDrive app being retired

2023-03-03 Thread Kelly Ford
Yes, you can definitely transfer books to Kindle. Basically, when you check
the book out from the library, there is an option to read in Libby or Kindle.
When you choose Kindle, an Amazon page opens with a button to get the book and
it is then available in your Kindle app. I use this fairly often.

My local library had an article in the March newsletter saying Overdrive is
being discontinued by the developer at the end of April. We are being told to
use Libby instead. One thing I noticed when I was reading the benefits listed
for Libby is that it says you can transfer books to Kindle. I haven’t
researched it to see if that means the Kindle app, wherein we could use
VoiceOver. I don’t have the time to read more now, but saved this Libby help

Tot, Another Handy App from The Iconfactory

2023-01-21 Thread Kelly Ford
Hey,

I’ve appreciated the dedication to accessibility from the maker of Twitterific
for so many years and it really disappoints me the way Twitter has treated them
and other developers. Loading Twitterific one last time before I removed it
from my phone, I noticed the company prompting some of their other apps.

They have a handy text editor called Tot. More details are at:

Tot • Your tiny text companion

It is a straight forward simple text editor that works on the iPhone, Mac and
watch. By design it is limited to seven documents that you can jot things down
in, copy and and such. On my Mac, cmd+1-7 switches between the seven documents.

The app is not free but this is one I was happy to purchase both as a new tool
to explore and to give a tiny bit of support to the company.

I do have the airpods max headphones that I really do like as a set of over the

Could you maybe give one or two links that demonstrate this behavior.
It has not happened often enough for me to be bothered by it, but if it is
happening a lot; I would also send example links to Apple of course.

Hi,

That is what I thought but at least for me this doesn’t seem to work correctly.

GPS App With Specific Details

2022-12-26 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

I use a range of GPS apps and web sites but have not found one that has some
details I’d like to have at times. I am curious if anyone has found such.

For example, in planning a route, I’d like to schedule stops based on time
travelled so if I’m going to be on a 20 hour drive I can say I want to stop
every 8 hours and have the route planned based on those stops.

Most of these apps also give you the turns and connections you are going to
make. Sometimes they’ll tell you when you are crossing into another state. I’d
like an option that would list some for of the cities I’m passing along the way.

Today I tend to get most of these details, especially from the second category,
by using an app called Exit. It lists the different exits along an interstate,
what’s at the exit and typically gives you an idea of the city.

Mantis Q40 and VoiceOver, space not working

2022-12-19 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has an idea on an issue I’m having with a Mantis Q40
and iOS.

Braille works for output and typing text works but for the spacebar. When I
enter a space on the Mantis, nothing is entered in to the program I’m using. I
have to use the touch keyboard on the phone.

Maps in iOS Weather App

2022-12-13 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

Has anyone found a way to get meaningful info from the maps in the weather app?
You can turn on an overlay with different info such as temp, precipitation and
more.

It would be great if you could drag your finger around and hear something
related to the overlay, either in text or with a sonic representation.

Re: Apple TV without a physical screen?

2022-11-20 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

For what it is worth, I do have my Apple TV plugged into the HDMI port of my
receiver. This is a Marantz receiver. This works fine with the Apple device
and does not require my TV to be connected or on for the Apple device to work.
The Apple device is the newest 4K unit.

Keyboard access and braille display

2022-09-28 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

I was experimenting a bit with turning on the accessibility setting for full
keyboard access and moving around the iPhone and several applications. This was
working fine with a Bluetooth keyboard.

However, as soon as I then turned on a braille display, the keyboard access
quit working from the Bluetooth keyboard. Does anyone know if this is how
things are supposed to work?

RE: NFL and iOS App

2022-09-11 Thread Kelly Ford
Here is what I had to do.

1. Get to the list of games.
2. Double tap on the game I wanted.
3. Slide my finger to the right edge of the screen where that game was located.
4. Lift my finger a bit but keep track of the physical location.
5. Turn off VoiceOver.
6. Touch the right edge of the screen where the game is located.
7. Turn back on VoiceOver.

Now you will be able to read the buttons for the different broadcasts.

It would appear that the NFL is using some graphic that isn't read by screen
readers to create the three dots that are shown visibly here to bring up these
buttons. A similar issue happens on the web site but there, they did add a tab
stop to the unread graphic.

Subject: RE: NFL and iOS App

Here's what I posted to the list earlier. I've used the NFL app in the past,
and I tried it again during the preseason with the seven day free trial. It's
doable but not very accessible.

OK, I signed up for the NFL Plus free trial, and things worked pretty much as
they did the season before last season. Here's what I did:
1. I brought up the NFL app.
2. I had to go into the Scores tab to get a game started. I couldn't
figure out how to do this from the NFL Plus tab.
3. In the Scores tab, I double tapped on the game I was interested in. In
this case, it was the Giants at Patriots.
4. I then had to double tap on the Watch tab.
5. Here I could double tap on the home broadcast, which was the Patriots,
or I could double tap on the listen live options, where I could double tap on
the away feed.
6. At this point the broadcast comes up, but you won't hear anything
because the audio volume is set to 0. I unmuted the audio by hitting the volume
up button.
7. Now you can listen to the game but the player is totally inaccessible,
so there's no way to play/pause or fast forward/rewind.

Like I said, this was pretty much how things worked the season before last.
Last season, the problem was that the volume buttons wouldn't unmute the audio,
so there was no way for me to listen to the game unless I had a sighted person
around who could tap on the unmute button in the inaccessible player.

SiriusXM is a much more enjoyable way to listen to a game, but it is $12
instead of $5 a month. I did see the option in the Watch tab to relisten to a
game, but I haven't tried that yet!

Re: Accessible App for a Good Robot Vacuum Machine

2021-06-27 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

I have a Roomba and the app they use works well with VoiceOver for the most
part. I say that because the app does have some mapping functions where you
can make adjustments to what is learned about your environment i.e. naming
rooms or adjusting boundaries. Those functions do not work well. If other
brands and apps do a good job at the accessibility of this aspect, I’ve not
heard of it.

I worked around this by sharing my details for the Roomba app with a trusted
resource and had them sign in and make adjustments. Once that was done, I
could schedule cleanings for individual rooms.

Roomba also has good integration with Amazon’s Alexa. So you can also issue
cleaning commands by Voice.

Although you didn’t ask about this, the other thing I will say is that the
Roomba is easy to maintain as far as the physical cleaning and such the device
needs from time to time.

Stopping Microphone sound in wireless headphones

2021-05-29 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

I don’t know if anyone has an idea or if what I want is even possible. I am
trying some beats flex wireless headphones. Anytime that the microphone is
enabled with these headphones, I hear a bit of microphone sound through the
headphones, almost like a recording studio audeo monitor function or something.
I have never heard this with wired headphones and obviously would prefer not
to have it when using dictation or a audio phone call of any sort. Currently
as soon as the microphone is turned on, you can hear it Kickin in the
headphones.

Expedia App and VoiceOver

Hi,

Has anyone else encountered problems using the Expedia app with VoiceOver
lately? When I am browsing a list of hotels after a search, I frequently use
swipe right gestures. This used to work fine.

Now, however, I can only use this method to view the first three hotels. I
must then issue a scroll gesture to get the next three hotels. And at that
point I have to touch the hotel names directly to keep reading the names.

I am running iOS 13.3 on an iPhone 10R.

Hulu App

2017-10-14 Thread Kelly Ford
Hello,

What sort of success have people had using the Hulu app with VoiceOver? I can
make some selections but when it gets down to the most critical, I do not seem
to be able to activate items.

For example, I can select the browse tab and then networks. At that point there
is a list of categories such as live entertainment sports and such. But when I
try and activate one of those items, which would lead to networks under that
category, double tapping does nothing.

As another example, I can activate the my stuff tab but then the categories of
items under that are not able to be activated with a double tap using voiceOver

Re: Audio in NFL Mobile

Has anyone figured out how to switch from the video to the radio feed?

Audio pass streamed the radio broadcasts heard in the local markets. I don't
think this is an after thought. They're the same radio broadcasts anyone in
the local market would hear, whether they're blind or sighted.

If you mean including radio broadcasts in the same package as the video
broadcasts, instead of splitting them out separately, then although I'd like
to see this happen myself, I suspect it wasn't so much an afterthought as
instead a way of consolidating the delivery mechanism into one
implementation. I personally plan on letting the NFL know that I'd rather pay
for an audio only option, like we had with AudioPass, and I may be passing on
the video package. Maybe if the NFL gets enough such feedback, they'll
include an audio only option in the streaming package.

If you're saying that the audio you get during a game is an afterthought then
I'd disagree. They broadcasted an NFL game with no audio a few years ago, and
it was a total flop. People, including sighted people, like the real time
analysis of the game that you get during a TV broadcast. For me, I don't find
the radio announcers so good or the TV announcers so bad that listening to a
game on TV is a waste of my time as compared to a radio broadcast. I can
usually follow a game just fine on TV, and I'll often listen to a nationally
televised game of my favorite team when it's shown in my area over the homers
 on the radio broadcast.

I couldn't agree more. I hate all these sites that want you to create an

Experience with Kinomap or other Exercise Apps and Physical Equipment

2014-11-28 Thread Kelly Ford
Hello,

Does anyone have experience with a series of apps called Kinomap or other
fitness apps and physical equipment such as tred mills or bikes?

I was looking at a fitness bike and it was mostly a touch screen as many
are. The folks at the Precore store thought that I might be able to control
the device from my iPhone with some apps called Kinomap.

Looking at the app descriptions for apps at
https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/kinomap-sas/id320756493 I'm not sure.

Has anyone used any of this equipment?

Adding Folders to iOS 7 Mail Screen

2013-09-24 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

One of the reviews about iOS 7 mail indicated that you should be able to add
specific folders to the main screen of Mail in iOS 7. This is where all of
your accounts are listed and such.

Does anyone know if this is accurate and if so, how to do so? I choose edit
on the account screen and can navigate down to individual folders from
accounts such as my Exchange or imap account, but there doesn't seem to be a
way to select folders. Double taps on the folders do not change the
selection state for example.

Thanks,

Mike,

From what I was told by MLB, you need to purchase the subscription on the
iOS device to get the web access for no extra charge. If you go the other
route you end up paying for two subscriptions.

Hi

I thought I had read on this list several months ago that if you had a
mlb.com account, you could listen to games on the iPhone without purchasing
a separate At Bat subscription. I have had a mlb.com subscription for as
long as it has been around. So I downloaded and installed At bat, read the
help, and did the steps to create an user id and password using my mlb.com
user id and password. I just installed the update to At Bat this morning.
So when I open At Bat, and double tap login, it asks me to log in using my
mlb.com user id and password. When I enter the user id and password and
double tap the log in or go button, it tells me you don't have access to
this feature, see inapp purchases. To be able to listen to games on both
the iPhone and the pc, do you have to purchase subscriptions to both
services, or can you do this only purchasing one. If you can do this using
only one, which one would that be.

Thanks.

Returning From Editing a Note in Kindle iOS App

2013-05-03 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi,

Has anyone figured out how to return to the book in the Kindle iOS app after
you add a note. You can add a note by tapping and holding on text. One of the
options is then to add a note where you end up in the typical text box. But so
far the only way I've found to return to the book is to press the iPhone home
button to leave the Kindle app and then return. At that point you are back to
the menu where one of the options is to return to the book.

Thanks,

RE: Wanted, list of IOS commands for Focus blue 40

2012-10-27 Thread Kelly Ford
One other resource is the Apple support article on this. There are focus
specific commands at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4394 and a link to more
general braille display commands on that page.

Hi,
There are two good sources for more commands than you want:
http://axslab.com/articles/ios-voiceover-gestures-and-keyboard-commands.php

http://www.applevis.com/guides/braille-commands-iphone

The applevis one has a section specifically about the Focus display.
The first one has more commands I think.

Richard

The subject says it all. What I hope to find is a comprehensive list of
braille commands (chords) which I can use on my Focus 40 blue to control my
3-GS.

Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction.

RE: Accessible apps for home theater receivers

2012-08-03 Thread Kelly Ford
I use an app from Pioneer called IControl. It allows for changing of the
various sound settings, i.e. various flavors of THX and others. It allows
you to change speaker balance using tilt behavior. It doesn't allow for
access to setup functions on the receiver. You also have to use VoiceOver's
label feature as some of the buttons are nameless but activation leads to
screens where you can determine the names.

I haven't played with an accessible Yamaha receiver itself yet. But, most
of the functions that I saw on the app itself appear to be labeled. But,
I'm not certain how well it would wok with the receiver and I'd guess you
need eyes to first set it up.

Please, I'd be interested in anybody's experience on home theater access as
the products are so menu-intensive.

Subject: Accessible apps for home theater receivers

I'm researching midrange home theater receivers, and I see several of
them have iPhone apps and air play support. I'm wondering, does anyone
have any experience with these receivers and how accessible the iPhone
apps are? I'm mostly looking at Onkyo, Denon and Yamaha, although I also
see that Pioneer is very proud of their Apple support.

I still need to check out the AppleVis.com web site. I've mostly been
spending my time on different web sites reviewing different home theater
receivers.
