In fact right now as I tap this message, it really hurts. Any suggestions?

certain extent to about page 3 and then VoiceStream crashes it's not a document
that has to be OCR'D.

reached, however many times when I swipe, I find that the selection has
moved elsewhere. Either toward the middle of the screen, or even
sometimes in the dock. The same is true if I'm inside an app like
settings. I will select a category, like General on the left, and then
touch the right side of the screen, then swipe right over and over, yet
the information isn't read consistently like I think it should when you
swipe right. I figured that maybe it's me who was messing up the swipe
and maybe was swiping diagonal since it's a larger screen. However I've
tested this by swiping left to right across the keyboard dots from the
speed dots protector I've installed. And if the iPad has been in
landscape mode, I've swiped left to right across the bottom of the
screen. I have no problems swiping on the iPhone, and so I don't think
I'm accidentally touching part of the screen before my swipe. I've been
careful not to do that when testing this.

Ideas are welcome, and if there is something I don't know about the iPad
navigation, that too, will be helpful. I don't know if this has to do
with containers, or some other form of navigation, but so far it's
proving to be a bit more tedious than with the iPhone.

was working for about 2 minutes before I lost the pairing. This is really
strange. I will probably have to wait until Tuesday to contact Humanware

waited a few minutes before turning it back on and then I got the above

 Hello,
I do not know what you have done, but there are a couple things to do.
First, turn on the apex, and from the main menu, press t for terminal port,
then b and enter to make sure it is using blutooth.
Then without leaving that spot, go to your i phone, and go to settings,
general, accessibility, and then find braille, and under braille, you should
see your apex, double tap on it, then under neath, enter quickly, then
go up to the right corner and double tap on add or accept, what ever it says
 up there.
If you did it right, you will see the braille on your apex.

Okay!!! After reading the posts in reading books with the Kindle app and a

Apex wasn't paired with the iPhone4. I went to remove the device, turned it

Many people reported trying to fix the problem by uninstalling and

the flag that indicates you have already paid for an upgrade. Good News! If
you go through the purchase process again, Apple will recognize that you have

to flick right to the reorder characters button, double tap and
hold, then move this all the way down to the bottom of the list of
rotor items. By default, the rotor options for characters, words, and
lines, are listed first. You' need to move them last – below Vertical
Navigation if you are in the default rotor screen, if you want them
to appear beside edit. Check this by clicking the home button once to
go to home screen, then again to move to the spotlight search text
box. You'll find your last item beside edit in the counterclockwise
direction, and the next-to-the last item, which could be words one
 more counterclockwise turn beyond that.

I have trouble with the 4 finger double tap near the top to go to the
top of a list or a 4 finger double tap near the bottom of the screen
to go to the bottom of a list. It is useful say when you've got a
list of 250 email messages which are desplayed newest first. I like
to read the oldest first because it makes it easier to follow the
thread which is probably why Apple did it that way because with the
gesture you can quickly go either way. I understand though why Apple
did it that way. Most people don't sit around on their ass all day on
emailing lists! LOL! Most people are waiting for a reply or a new
message etc so I get it but I'm usually holding my iPhone going from
top to bottom because it's easier to hold it that way and I can't
always get all 4 fingers on the damn screen and I've not managed it
yet and yet everybody insists it works. Maybe I should try it with
the screen sideways. Please let me know if it works for you or maybe
 I'm doing it wrong.

The voice Over help was helpful for me and I still use it, but I'm

 Subject: gesture helper?

 HI,

I am learning more and more gestures that I was not aware of. It is
great to learn of them on this list.

My question is this, is there a place where you can find a listing
of the different gestures that are available for the IPhone?

I have read through the documentation on-line but have not found
 such a list.

 Thanks.

If you are using the new Audible app there is currently no way to move

 select up to triple speed.

If you turn Voiceover off and hit it just right, you can touch the screen
just above the home key, but not too much above, then do a single finger
swipe up. This activates the so-called button free mode. If you do manage
to activate it which usually takes me a few tries, you can do a single
finger swipe from left to right on the top half of the screen to go forward
60 seconds or a single finger swipe right to left to go backward. If you
swipe vertically it will insert a Bookmark.

You can turn Voiceover on again when you are done and find a Close button
at the top left which will close/turn off button free mode. Keep in mind
that even while it is still on, once you turn on Voiceover the swipe
gestures to forward or go back don't work any more.

I suggest you write to Audible and tell them as well that you would like to
see a Jump Forward option similar to the Jump Back button although I am
pretty sure they got the message and I assume their next release will
 reintroduce some more controls again.

Re: Including Addresses in contacts

2013-04-05 Thread Mickey Quenzer
Hello Donna:

Here's what worked for me. Try it and let me know if this helps.

1. Open your contacts application.
2.Find the contact you want to get the address from. and select that contact by
double tapping with a single finger.
3. Find the address you want to copy.
4. Double Tap and hold on that address.
5.Use your
Rooter command to select edit. Flick up and down to see what options are
available and select Copy. Double-Tap to copy the address.
Note: Copy will probably be the only option available.

6. Go to your email which you are composing and select Edit then Paste.
The address should be in your email at this point.

Let me know if this helps.

Editing commands used with iPhone or iPad with a bluetooth keyboard

Hello all:

I would like to make a complete list of the editing commands which you can use

an example of a keyboard command which I found for myself is that Control Plus

Does Anybody know where I can get such a command list?

Thanks Esther I really appreciate all the information you gave me. I'm not
quite sure how I'll put this all together but if I come up with a document that
has all this information I'll definitely let you see it. thanks a lot I
appreciate the help you have given me!

On Mar 22, 2013, at 5:25 PM, Esther mori...@mac.com wrote:

 Hello Mickey,

Richard is indeed correct that the keyboard shortcuts you are
describing that work for iOS devices are a subset of the editing
shortcuts that work on the Mac in Cocoa apps (which include most of
the basic apps like Mail, TextEdit, etc.). Similarly, selecting text
by holding down the Shift key in combination with a movement command,
like your example of Control+Shift+Down Arrow, where Control+Down
Arrow moves you to the end of screen, is another Mac concept that
carries over to iOS keyboard usage. (Actually, I would probably use
Command+Shift+Down Arrow to the move to the end of a text document --
there's a distinction between end of screen and end of a document.)

Shortcuts like Control+K (which moves to either the end of a line or
the end of a paragraph depending on application and context -- on a
Mac, in TextEdit, this shortcut would move to the end of a paragraph)
are part of a larger group of shortcuts that are familiar to linux
users who used control line editing and/or the emacs text editor.
Those shortcuts, like Control+A to move to the beginning of a line and
Control+E to move to the end of a line, also work with iOS, and can
even be used to select text when applied in combination with pressing
the Shift key. However, I don't think I would ever use those
combinations, when the same movement actions can be achieved with
Command+Right arrow or Left arrow, and selection accomplished by also
pressing the Shift key, unless I were using a keyboard with no Command
key, or where the Command key were placed in a position where pressing
this combination would be difficult to do -- as in the case of the
Riitek mini-Bluetooth keyboard sold by Speedots and ATguys.

These extra shortcuts were discussed on this list, but during the 3-
year period when list posts were not archived at the Mail Archive, so
it would be extremely hard to locate any posts that were not also cc'd
or sent to the macvisionaries list, which was archived.

Here's a Mail Archive page link to a post from July 2010 on Apple
Wireless Keyboard Shortcuts for the iPhone and iPod Touch in iOS 4
that was saved at the macvisionaries list archives. It lists the
Control+K combination among a number of other emacs-like control
 shortcut sequences.
 http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg26148.html

That post also links to another, older post on Moving and Selecting
in Cocoa Apps that outlines how all these key combinations work on
the Mac (and incidentally in iOS by extension):
 http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg26148.html

If you want a more recent Apple Knowledge Base article on OS X
Keyboard Shortcuts that describes some of the combinations you
mention, like Control+K, see this page:
 http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1343
Use item chooser menu to move to Application and Other OS X
Shortcuts and start reading from there.

The biggest modification in going from Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts to
iOS keyboard shortcuts is that the Fn key at the bottom left corner
of the Apple Wireless Keyboard is not used for iOS. So actions like
Forward delete of characters (Fn+Delete) or words (Fn+Option+Delete)
don't work in iOS, nor do combinations like Fn+Up arrow (Page Up), Fn
+Down arrow (Page down), Fn+Left arrow (Home), Fn+Right arrow (End).

In addition to editing shortcuts, the Mac has option key combinations
for typing accents, symbols and special characters. These are
language dependent, but some popular ones are Option+8 to type a
bullet, and Option+Shift+K to type an Apple symbol. Mickey, you're
on the Mac-Access list, so if you search the Mail Archives for that
list you'll find a lot of my posts about special characters, etc.

 HTH. Cheers,

 Esther

Prizmo

2013-03-06 Thread Mickey Quenzer
Hello all:

I am interested in the Prizmo application.
Does the program add an option to scan images when you do a tap and hold
gesture?

I've got an image in my email that I'd like to do OCR on.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Grant and All, thanks very much for your feedback.

  Let me mention two things.

. Firstly, if you find that VO misses numbers, you may need to turn the
rotor a bit slower. There is a delay between when you hear the sound for
each number and when VO actually speaks it.

. Secondly, If VO's focus moves to the two buttons at the top of the
  screen
the rotor functionality will switch back to its usual features. This is
  what
is supposed to happen. If this does happen, simply touch the screen again
near the middle, with a finger and you'll be good to go!

Are you having any issue hearing the sound which signals you to flick up
  or
down on the correct number? The AppleVis podcaster was having an issue but
  I
was able to hear it fine. So I'm wondering if this is something we'll
  need
to change in the next update so people can more easily hear this sound?

quite buggy at least on my particular iPhone 5.
VoiceOver rarely announced the numbers as I spun the lock, but usually a
small sound played indicating that my gesture worked. Often times though,
VoiceOver simply loses its focus and when I spin the dial it begins

Re: LookTel VO Tutorial

Sent from my iPhone

On Mar 2, 2013, at 1:29 PM, Cara Quinn caraqu...@caraquinn.com wrote:

Well, since I haven't seen this one chatted about here on the list, here goes…

LookTel has just released, this week, a free app called Voiceover Tutorial.
 (VO Tutorial)

It is a basic tutorial app for new iPhone / iPod users (soon to be on iPad)
which teaches all of the necessary gestures so a user can then more easily
navigate / investigate their device by themselves.

The app also has two games in it. Basketball and Safe.

Basketball allows the player to dribble the ball by flicking down and
shooting by flicking up. The more you dribble the ball, the more likely you
are to make a basket. This is meant to show the player the flick up / down
 gestures.

This then leads to the Safe game, where the player places two fingers on the
screen and turns their hand as if to turn a large knob. Voiceover announces
numbers as the Safe's virtual dial turns and a sound is played at a
particular number. The player then needs to flick up or down to enter that
 number into the combination lock.

Once you enter three numbers successfully, the Safe opens.

So, as you might guess, this teaches the rotor gesture… :)

Rather than only being for beginning iOS users, all iPhone / iPod users might
like this app just to have the games on their devices as quick lil' time
 wasters. :)

We'll be updating this app extensively, and I've already got another game
written to add. We'll eventually cover all Voiceover gestures and will have a
directory-like system so a customer can immediately go straight to a lesson
 or game of their choice.

 Enjoy! Here's the linkie!

   Hi:
This is a most creative tutorial. I am glad to see this approach.

I am an instructor and will be using this as a way to make people comfortable
with voiceOver's gestures.

One comment: The first time you present the split tap feature, you may want to
exclude the double tap feature so that the student needs to use the gesture
you are trying to have them use.

 To text without BT, I:
 1.   Go to contacts;
 2.   Navigate to the desire contact;
 3.   Double tap on “send Message”;
 4. Double tap on “Mobile”
 5. Type and send message.
 With Braille Touch I:
 1. Write the message.
 2.   Flick left for BT menu;
 3. Double tap on the text message button.
 4. Turn phone back to Portrait mode, where I find myself in Contacts.
 5. Type the first 3 letters of the last name of the addressee
 6. Navigate to desired sender
 7. Double tap “Mobile.” Nothing happens. Message fails.
What am I doing that prevents the “to” field from being poppulated? Is there

hurt my finger when I used it. So I thought I would put some tape over it.
And then another thought came along, the good old fingernail. That's what I
use now, and it solved my problem. I love low tech solutions!

Re: how to use the item chooser, complete instructions

2013-02-17 Thread Mickey Quenzer
Thanks Eric that was a nice quick description I appreciate it.

Sent from my iPhone

On Feb 15, 2013, at 6:04 PM, erik burggraaf e...@erik-burggraaf.com wrote:

Hi, Here are complete instructions for the item chooser.
The item chooser lists and filters all items on the screen and is most useful
on web pages or apps with large lists of content.
To open the item chooser, do a double finger tripple tap, or press space plus
I on a braille display, or control option I on a bluetooth keyboard.
The contents of the screen will display as a list with a search box on top.
This search box should auto focus and allow you to start typing a string, but
sometimes you have to double tap it to start typing depending on the
 peripherals you have connected.
Slowly begin typing in the edit box. As you type each letter, focus will
return to the edit box. This is why it's a good idea to take it slow.
As you type a string, all items that don't contain that string will
disappear. For example, if you are looking for jonny appleseed, typing jon,
app, or see will find jonny appleseed.
As you type, voiceover should report the number of items left in the chooser.
When the number is something you can live with, flick right from the search
box. This is one reason why focus is set there after each letter you type.
Another is I suppose that the screen keeps refreshing and changing and the
search box is a good point of reference.
When you find the item you want, listen for an extra beat and voiceover will
tell you where on the screen the item is located so that you can try and find
it without the item chooser next time. This is particularly useful on the
IPad which has so much real-estate that sometimes you use the item chooser
just to keep from having to grope around the screen all day.
Double tap the item and voiceover will set focus there.
you can then take whatever action is required such as double tapping if the
item is a link or a button, or read from current position if you are in the
 middle of an article.

hope this helps and isn't too verbose. i'm sort'a enjoying my friday night.
 :)

 Keith,

No, your printer if it is either physically using ether net, or wirelessly
using WiFi connected to your network stays as it is. You do not connect the
X-Print Server to your printer at all… You only connect a USB printer to
the X-Print Server, not a network enabled one.

You would connect the single ether net socket on the X-Print Server to your
router, the iOS device prints to the X-Print Server, which appears to your
device as the name of your printer. The X-Print Server pushes the print job
then over the network to the printer itself.

 does that make sense?

RE: Is any keyboard that works with an IPad supposed to work with an IPhone?

2012-12-29 Thread Mickey Quenzer
Hi Cheryl:

Do you use it for a Mac? If so, does it have the apple media keys?

It's kind of hard sometimes to get that detail from the advertisements.

Actually, I have the same question with the solar powered logitech keyboard
which Ricardo told us about.

I'm not Ricardo, but my IOGear multi-link bluetooth keyboard can switch
between six devices. All of them can be on at the same time and one switches
between them by using the fn key and the corresponding number (1-6). But of
course when buying a keyboard one needs to look at the key size and keyboard
layout and whatever else one wants in a keyboard. I really like my IOGear;
in fact I have one that sits on my desk and one that travels in my purse and
they are both set up the same way to access all my devices, but some might
not like the layout or key size or something.

Re: iPhone: Some Perspective

2012-12-21 Thread Mickey Quenzer
Well said Sandy I have also been frustrated with the iPhone but now I have an
iPhone and iPad and iPad Mini and I'm learning every day but it's so much
better then other things that I've used in the past there are frustrations
especially editing which something I am still learning and have gathered some
tips I will be sharing those in a future post! Can you say run-on sentences?
Using dictation is cool but editing it is something else I decided to leave
this message as it is to show you an example good job for showing your husband
how to use his iPad pod and Merry Christmas to everyone on the list

Sent from my iPhone

On Dec 21, 2012, at 4:16 AM, Sandy Finley finleykn...@gmail.com wrote:

Lately there has been some frustration expressed on this list about
accessibility and ease of use of Apple products. I hope that what I have to
say here will help some put this in perspective.

I bought an iPod for Christmas for my sighted husband. Because we are
traveling for Christmas I gave it to him last evening. He has never used an
iPhone and while bright, techy stuff is not his priority. I loaded onto it
our entire digitized music collection plus his almost 1,500 digital photos,
and a few apps I thought he’d like. As I showed him how to use it I had
one of those ahah! Moments. I was saying things like, “That bottom row is
called the doc” and “there’s a download button up there on the right” and
“tap play list on the bottom…”
As far as I know the iPhone is one of the few products that is not only
accessible, but we have a fairly accurate picture of the location of items on
the screen. Perhaps it’s due to my technological inferiority but I know that
when he and I navigate a web page together in Internet Explorer I don’t have
a good picture of what is where from his perspective and he doesn’t
understand mine either. To say that he was impressed with my newfound
orientation to the screen is an understatement. I bought that iPod, showed my
stepson how to activate VO and then took it over and set it up myself. To me
 this is very powerful stuff.

Apple isn’t perfect and I got frustrated just the other day figuring out how
to enter all of my trips into Flight Few, but we’ve come a very long way from
my college years with a slate and stylus, Braille writer, four-track,
reel-to-reel tape recorder and portable typewriter.

you can delete individual conversations. You can do this by going to the
Recents tab, then double tap on the Edit button at the top left of the

Hi Christine. It's not a question of which version of Skype is easier,
but how you're going to use it. Like for instance, on both Mac and
iPhone, there are several things you can and can't do. On the Mac, if
you are planning to set up voicemail, you can't check them with the
Skype client on the Mac but you can on the iPhone. On the iPhone you
can't delete all your recent history but on the Mac you can. I'm sure
others can chime in on this subject but that's what I've noticed.

Hi all,

I have setup my iphone to synch via wifi to itunes running on my
windows7 pc. according to my phone, the last synch was on oct 25, but I
have added several new cd's to itunes on my pc, but can't get my phone to
synch any more.

It keeps saying that it will continue synching when my pc becomes available.
The laptop is connected to my wifi and is running, and the phone says it is
connected to my wifi as well, but the synch now button is dimmed out.

Also can't figure out how to turn off synch via wifi so I can synch via hte
cable.

Any thoughts gratefully appreciated.

Re: Two iPhones: files and folders

2012-09-21 Thread Mickey Quenzer
Hello Cheryl there's a good chance that you can transfer all your files and
folders as they are from your old phone to your new phone I had in ATT 64 GB
phone transferred to a Sprint 16 GB phone all my files and folders came out
fine what you need to do is sync to iCloud with your old phone first then say
that you want to restore from a backup on iCloud with your new phone

Re: Second iPhone: contacts

Hello Cheryl in my example I gave you before I was using my ATT phone and used
iCloud backed it up then got my sprint phone told that I wanted to restore from
iCloud backup and I made sure that I pick the most recent backup from my other
phone and the restore went fine yesterday patient because all the apps and
things will take a little bit of time to transfer but it works fine for me

the advanced choice in the info tab on iTunes and checked contacts nothing
happened as far as syncing them. The only thing in my contacts is my own

i'm not seeing it, could somebody please enlighten me.
