Re: improvements in SIRI?

2024-03-22 Thread Shirley Tracy
Amen. I'm getting frustrated with Siri. But understand this is coming from the
silly woman who purchased an Apple Magic keyboard without knowing if it would
"really" work with my iphone. It's just that I'm getting tired having to deal
with Siri's craziness.

Hi all. SIRI Still stops herself in the middle of text messages, and does
other strange things. Is there any improvement in 17.4.1? Just hoping. Also,
where is the best place to report frustration with SIRI?

God bless!

Apple keyboard simply do not have a delete key, but there is a way to do that
using one of the modifiers and the backspace key. Research your keyboard is
probably easiest done with pressing K with caps lock to put you in keep help
mode then then just try every key.

RE: Regarding Audio Playing When I Don't Want

2022-10-24 Thread Shirley Tracy
I don’t have a good answer for you, but I’m also having the same thing happening with Audible. And it happens with books I have finished reading but still have in my library. Maybe whoever helps you can also help me. Thanks. Shirley Tracy From: Jim PortilloSent: Monday, October 24, 2022 6:32 PMTo: viphone@googlegroups.comSubject: Regarding Audio Playing When I Don't Want Greetings,This has been an issue that has been happening for a little while, but it is really beginning to annoy me. I’m not quite sure how to describe it.I listen to music with the Apple music app. I also have the OoTunes radio app and listen to stations there, along with other radio apps. When I’m done with whatever radio or music app I’m using, I’ll stop whatever is playing and close the app.I could be doing something else on my phone, or maybe even just accidentally bumping the phone, and suddenly, the music or radio from the app comes back up playing. It is really annoying because since the app is technically closed, I have to remember which app it is, open it, stop whatever is playing and close down the app again.Sometimes, I might be in an app where I may want to dictate something, and if I do a two finger double-tap, the music or radio app might sometimes come up again.I’ve noticed it happening more lately.Any idea what could be going on and how I can keep these apps from coming up at any timeThis seems to happen when I’m the most careful. Thanks.Jim-- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. If you have any questions or concerns about the running of this list, or if you feel that a member's post is inappropriate, please contact the owners or moderators directly rather than posting on the list itself. Your V iPhone list moderator is Mark Taylor. For me, using an iPhone 11, the currency & product features do not work at all. The color feature is 100% inaccurate. My app is up to date & so is my IOS. I only use the Short Text feature in the  Seeing AI app. I recommend VoiceDream Scanner for reading documents & CamFind or TapTap See for colors. EyeNote does great in identifying US dollars. The Short Text feature of the Seeing AI app can read product labels, but it takes some practice when it comes to reading labels on cans. There are two similar apps to Seeing AI, Supersense & Envision AI. Both of these apps to get full functionality have a monthly subscription. I typically don't recommend apps that have a monthly subscription. I prefer to pay for an app & pay for an upgrade or new feature that has been added through an In App purchase. Not everyone likes to use multiple apps when there are options in which one app can do all that is needed. I don't think that a new iPhone will solve your clients problem with the Seeing AI app. Hopefully, one of the above suggestions will help your client. Donna    > I have a client who has an iphone 8, and is unable to use any of the > camera features of the Seeing AI app, except that the short text > option does work. Do any of you use Genious

2021-09-12 Thread Shirley Tracy
Hi,  Is Genious accessible for a person who is totally blind? I need to make some copies of things and email them to someone, and my daughter suggested I might use Genious because, for her, it’s easy to use. I do well to answer the phone, much less take a picture of something to email—but I’m willing to give it a try. Any thoughts how else I can do it? Tks in advance.   Shirley Tracy

Siri not working right

2021-09-03 Thread Shirley Tracy
For a couple of weeks now, I ask Siri to call or text someone, or just to read a message, and it says “On it,” or “Wait a minute.” Sometimes it says, “Something is wrong. Please try again.” Generally, the task is performed, but it takes so long. Any suggestions?

I currently cannot use Microsoft outlook nor can I use Aira. When I try to open these apps the only thing you get is a blank screen. I think one of the reasons for this is because we turned screen recognition on while I was in the app the other day. We did a reset on the phone and did a back up through iTunes, called Apple and they did a screen share and video and send a ticket to the tech-support. They ask that anyone that is having problems with any app not opening to please contact them and let them know about it so they can try to find the problem. My wife is also having difficulty with an app she downloaded yesterday it was working she turned screen recognition on to try to figure out something in the app and it will not load anymore. So the best advice I could give you is do not turn screen recognition on if you do you may not be able to use the app that you turned it on with because you definitely can’t turn it off once this happens. RE: Could a smart backpack replace guide dogs? Researchers think so. - The Washington Post

2021-05-29 Thread Shirley Tracy
Hi, I’m going to put my two cents in here, and then I’ll fold my hands and stop using the keyboard.  I have made more friends and enjoyed my life far more since I stopped being imbarrased about my blindness and learned how to relax and be comfortable with who I am. But not being able to see even light is only part of who I am. I don’t shove my blindness in anyone’s face, but I don’t cover it up. It’s just part of who I am. I’d rather get from point A to point B with a cane, a dog, or a computer (whatever works best for me) than to have to depend on someone to walk me everywhere. I take help when I really need it, but I try to do what I can for myself. The more we relax with ourselves and with others, the more they will relax with us, no matter what we use for mobility. We’re never going to please everyone. That’s just the facts. And I use a guide dog because I can get where I’m going quicker and safer. I hate using a cane because I don’t use it smoothly. I love my dog, but if the backpack works and isn’t too cumbersome, I’d probably give it a try. I’ve come full circle from the way I used to be, and I’m so much happier now.  Cheers,   Shirley Tracy From: juanhernande...@gmail.comSent: Tuesday, May 25, 2021 11:48 AMTo: viphone@googlegroups.comSubject: RE: Could a smart backpack replace guide dogs? This would be like somebody in a wheelchair being embarrassed that they have to use a wheelchair or somebody with a hearing aid being embarrassed they need one of those. How about people who lost a limb and have a prosthetic arm or leg, should they be embarrassed? The fact is that we all are who we are and if you are embarrassed by the cane then where does that stop? Would you be embarrassed if you had to wear thick glasses and how about that future super backpack, people will still know that you are blind and the smart, high-tech content of said backpack will require all sorts of sensors and cameras to function which maybe more or less noticeable by others. And in any case, what do I care what others think? Maybe I care to a degree when it comes to people close to me, but if I were walking down the street and a bunch of idiots were openly pointing at me and laughing their heads off because of my cane then I would maybe pity them, but I sure wouldn't feel embarrassed by it. maybe  From: viphone@googlegroups.com <viphone@googlegroups.com> On Behalf Of goshawk on horsebackSent: Monday, May 24, 2021 11:22 AMTo: viphone@googlegroups.comSubject: Re: Could a smart backpack replace guide dogs? RE: [tech-vi Announce List] Learn to Use VoiceOver on Your iPhone: a Beginner’s Guide

There were moments where I fantasized about throwing my iPhone out the window because I couldn’t figure it out, and I consider myself to be very tech-savvy. It wasn’t until I sat down and talked to some of my blind friends that I realized that it wasn’t nearly as crazy as it sounded, and that I could do things with it that I couldn’t have imagined that would increase my level of independence and improve my overall quality of life. Now I feel confident with using VoiceOver on iPhone whenever I am having a bad vision day or find certain material hard to read. However, if you’re just getting started, the level of information on the Internet can be overwhelming. That is why in this guide, I will provide a series of tips, organized by heading and subheading, along with links to more comprehensive guides and podcasts from across the AppleVis website on how to use VoiceOver on iPhone.Keep in mind that this guide is not intended to describe specific features, but rather to explain the central concepts of using iOS with VoiceOver. One quality that I’ve observed in my over ten years of learning and using iOS is that once I had a few things mastered, I could apply those skills to accomplish a wide variety of tasks in both first and third-party apps.TerminologyiOS is the operating system that powers the iPhone, iPod Touch, and until 2019, the iPad. That year, Apple forked off the version of iOS for the iPad and now refers to it as iPadOS, which provides similar functionality to iOS with the addition of tablet specific features. As the features of iPadOS are in some cases identical to those of iOS, the iPad may feel very familiar to you if you’ve used an iPhone or iPod Touch. However, I don’t have an iPad, so cannot comment in this guide on what features and processes are the same or different between the two operating systems. Therefore, only iOS will be covered. In addition to the iPhone, the iPod Touch, the last remaining device in the iPod line, runs iOS. This is a device with a similar design of the iPhone, with the ability to run the current version of iOS, but without cellular connectivity, an advanced camera, biometric authentication, or the same level of computational power as the iPhone and iPad. For reference, the processor in the current generation iPod Touch is the A10 Fusion, the same chip that powered the iPhone 7 which was released in2016. The iPhone and iPod Touch, and to a lesser extent the iPad, are known collectively as iOS devices or, “iDevices,” for short.Applications or, “Apps,” are pieces of software that add specific functionality to an operating system. In Windows vernacular, these pieces of software are referred to as programs, particularly in the days of Windows 7 and earlier. As you will see in this guide and in your own use of iOS, apps are an integral part of the user experience and can greatly expand the functional potential of your device.VoiceOver is the screen reader built-in to Apple products, including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple Watch. It is also available on Mac computers, but this article is geared towards learning VoiceOver on iPhone. VoiceOver was first introduced in 2009 on the iPod Shuffle and iPhone 3GS and has been included on every Apple product since, with the exceptions of the iPod classic and iPod nano. It is free of charge and requires no additional downloads to use.iOS device physical layoutWhile specific device models have distinct hardware features, there are some key design characteristics that all iOS devices share. The iPhone and iPod Touch are rectangular slabs with a flat glass touch screen on top, two volume buttons on the upper left side, a power button, and a charging port on the bottom. On the iPhone, the power button
