Actually, once you set the rotor to characters, words, or lines, use the pinch gesture to select some text. Once text has been selected, Edit usually appears in the rotor. I do this fairly regularly. In a few places, edit does not appear. I suspect text is copy-protected in these few instances. Hi Alan; I don't know if this applies here but, this is what I do. When I am in text I want to select and, copy I turn the rotor to edit. Then, I do a double-tap and hold. When, the menu comes up and, I hit copy. After that, I go where I want to put the text and, double-tap and hold again. Then, another menu comes up with paste. However; I have never been successfully been able to do this 100pc. Hope this helps. You'll hear the text being selected. Move your fingers apart slowly and pause to hear the text being selected. Instead of the double tap and hold, a simple flick up or down will take you between the different options in the edit setting of the roter, i.e. you can flick up or down between select all, copy, paste and so on. Help Still Needed Selecting and Copying Text
I am still having difficulty selecting and copying text on my iPhone 5. I often want to copy a word, sentence, etc. from an online newspaper article I'm reading in order to message it to someone. I've finally gotten where I can get close to selecting the applicable text using the pinch gesture. I thought at that point I needed to use the rotor to select edit, copy but there is no edit option on the rotor when I'm reading an online article and it is definitely turned on in the settings. Hi Alan, At this point I don't think you can, the Edit option in the rotor is only available in an edit field. I am not sure if as a sighted person it is possible to copy text in, for example, Safari, but I also think it would be nice if one could copy text anywhere. Alan, I too have had text where they didn't appear to be a way to copy them. However, I have found that once I start selecting, using the pinch method, then the edit box appears. It is a bit of a fiddle, but I have got into work. In addition, I have personally found it easier to select text by holding one finger at the top left of the text and then diagonally moving another finger down. Somehow, I have found there is then More movement to go to add text to the Selection. I would personally like to ask if people would find it useful to have a sentence mode just as we have a character, line and word mode so far. It would make for tidy editing of text, if you prefer to work in sentences. What does anyone think? Should we suggest it to Apple! If you can select text then the edit option in the roter should appear. It doesn't only appear in an edit field. For example, you can select text in an email message or a Safari web page, use the edit option in the roter to copy that text to your clipboard and then move to an edit field where you can use the edit option in the roter to paste the text.
