also, the amazon fire 7 inch screen, which i bought at the beginning of the
year, has a better processor, and as well as the native amazon underground
store, you can sideload the google app store.

if someone wants to get a feel for the android system at a very reasonable
price, well you can't go wrong!

From the little I've heard, you're better off using the iOS Kindle app.

Amazons voice assistant thing for older Kindles is lackluster, at best. You
have much more flexibility over reviewing text with VoiceOver than you do
with Amazons clunky, bolted on solution.

When I think Kindle, I think of devices like the Kindlo Paperwhite, not the
Fire tablets. So, sorry for my comments disparraging aeathat product. I wasn't
thinking of it when I was thinking of Kindle devices. I think of Kindles as
sort of one-trick ponies, not the tablets they've been coming out with lately.

Re: Kindle app or kindle

2016-09-14 Thread Mary Otten
The original question came from someone who was happy with the Kindle app and
was looking to find out if there were advantages to purchasing a Kindle device.
I can't see any in terms of reading kindle books, unless you particularly like
the voices that are offered on fire. Or maybe you just like to mess with
gadgets. And that $40 tablet is cheap. The speaker is awful. And it's on the
back. But it works. And for $40 on sale, you can't complain. I am disappointed
that Amazon has chosen not to offer all of the Ivona voices, which they own,
for download for use with their devices. I wonder why they haven't done so. I
wrote to their excess ability department, and got no response. No surprise.

considering, kindle is an amazon product. it works just as good as the

it just runs on the android system, which many blind people get on with just

the amazon fire, which is about 40 pounds, in the UK, is a lot cheaper than

also it isn't clunky, it is just a different operating system.

Speach is fine, and there are very good voices, which you can download for

But for 40 pounds, you can't grumble!

Re: Kindle app or kindle

2016-09-14 Thread Mary Otten
If you're happy with the app, there isn't really any need to get a Kindle. I
have one of the cheap Kindle fire tablet that I picked up for $40 a few months
ago. It's OK. For that price, it's great. But the app there doesn't really do
anything that the Kindle app doesn't do. So unless you really want the voices
that are available on Kindle device, I don't see why you'd want one, unless you
just like Messing with gadgets. Frankly, the reason I purchased the Kindle fire
was it somebody told me a particular voice was available. It happens to be my
favorite female reading voice, and it's not available on Kindle on iOS.
Unfortunately, I found out that that voice is in fact not available on the
Kindle fire. Oh well. One thing I do like about the Kindle device is reading
books in Russian, because I like the voice there. But that's hardly a common
thing for folks in this country.

Kindle app or kindle

2016-09-14 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi List.
What is the best reading experience of kindle books? I have the app which works
well but I am wondering if reading via a kindle device is better?
Can anyone comment?
Thanks,
Jo
