RE: Power Bank Etc. For iPhone and Storms

2023-11-30 Thread James Bentley
If possible, purchase 2 power banks and charge both fully.

Then, when the first goes dead, plug it in to charge and you still have a fully
charged power bank ready to go. Then, just keep alternating the power banks
and you will always have plenty of reserve power.

Not directly. Since it can be left plugged in, it should be fully charged when
needed. However, it would be possible to use an app like Be My Eyes to ask a
sighted person to look through your phone's camera at the power bank and find
out that way.

RE: Power Bank Etc. For iPhone and Storms

2023-11-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You must live in a part of the world which may experience serious
storms/hurricanes where power outages can last many days.
Anker has such a solution as well, 2400 Watts (2048 WH or Watt Hours) with a
second battery to double that capacity and an optional 200 Watt capacity solar
charging panel:
Anker SOLIX F2000 (PowerHouse 767) - 2048Wh | 2400W - Anker Canada
And there is another company called Bluetty which does similar stuff.
Of course most people don't want to require a backpack to lug around their
battery and at least for me I don't need a separate hotspot because I have a
lot of data for my iPhone and if I want to use my laptop somewhere I don't have
Wi-Fi I can simply use my iPhone as a hotspot.

RE: Power Bank Etc. For iPhone and Storms

2023-11-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And there is also Hyperjuice which can be found a little on Amazon, but it’s
primarily via their own store, www.hypershop.com<http://www.hypershop.com>
They started out with a campaign on Indigogo for their 245 Watt battery pack
and desktop charger, but they have lots of other products now.
I have the big battery and it’s super well-made, all metal and with a display
(yes, I know, maybe not the best for blind folks), but it has 4 USB-C ports and
it’s a very large capacity battery if you are looking for something which lasts
for a long time and this can even charge a laptop as it delivers up to 100
Watts on 1 or 2 of the ports.
I just ordered their 5000 MAH magnetic charger which is quite small and sticks
to the back of the iPhone and which was on sale for $34.99 US, but it does not
come with a wall charger. The nice thing is that it supports pass-through
charging which means if it is connected to your iPhone and you plug it in to
charge, it will first fully charge your iPhone and only then the battery will
start to charge. It also has I believe 1 or 2 additional USB-C ports.
I ordered it along with a 140 Watt wall charger in a small travel format with
foldable prongs, here some links:

Hyperjuice Magnetic Batterry
Pack<https://www.hypershop.com/products/hyperjuice-magnetic-wireless-battery-pack>

There is also a 4-in-1 charger which sounds very interesting as many of the
MagSafe chargers are 3-in-1, but this one offers an extra USB-C port to charge
an additional device apart from the iPhon/Apple Watch/Airpods magnetic charging
options and it does offer the full 15 Watts for the fastest charging of the
newer phones:

It shows up here as the first entry when I search for Anker 733. I can't think
of any reason why it wouldn't be available in the US. You could also look at a
comapny called UGreen which produces similar chargers. Anker certainly isn't
the only game in town.

I certainly wouldn't leave my Energrid power bank plugged in all the time.
However, the Anker 733 is designed for that and stops charging the battery

Re: Power Bank Etc. For iPhone and Storms

2023-11-24 Thread Michael Feir
I certainly wouldn't leave my Energrid power bank plugged in all the time.
However, the Anker 733 is designed for that and stops charging the battery
as soon as it's full. It doesn't even get warm. The only thing it won't do
is act as an uninterruptable power supply. You'd have to push a small
button to engage the battery if power failed.

2023-11-24 Thread Mike B.
Hi Michael,

I wouldn't leave your power bank plugged in 24 / 7, it could cause premature
failure being that if it loses just a little bit of charge it's constantly
recharging. I normally check my power bank every so often and I won't
charge it until it needs it, or we need to go somewhere and I want to make
sure it's fully charged.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Hello Margaret. I've really come to appreciate the Anker GAN Prime 733 which
combines a 1 MAH power bank and wall charger in one handy device. I
leave it plugged in all of the time so I know it'll be full when I need it.
It has folding plug prongs which let you plug it directly into the wall
socket or power bar. It has two USB C ports and a USB A port. You'd also
need a Lightning to USBC cable which Anker makes.
I also have a 2 MAH battery from Energrid. It gives audio beep feedback
and vibrates to let you know when something's connected or when it's
charging. Between those two batteries, I know I'm covered for a good eight
or nine full iPhone charges. That'll see me through around three or four
days. More if I'm conservative.
If you're worried about longer spans of time, there are much bigger power
banks. The two batteries I have are very portable and both will easily fit
in a shoulderbag. Besides the USBC to Lightning cable, I would also suggest
you get a spare USB C to USB C cable. That may be useful for other
accessories like USB headsets, emergency radios or Bluetooth keyboards. You
can always charge other power banks while you have electricity using the
ports in the 733 charger. Hope that helps a bit. Amazon has a slight
discount here in Canada on a number of Anker products. Doubtless, this is
true in the US also. There are a very wide range of other bands and you'll
hopefully hear from people more experienced with those as well.

I would rather have the big battery with a few ports. I have been
trying to find something with more than one usb C.

On 3/29/23, Sieghard Weitzel wrote:

I assume by powerbank you refer to an expernal battery. As Kelly pointed
out, you can get something small which will recharge an iPhone fully once
or
maybe twice if you only charge when you are down to 40%. As to the type
it

really makes little difference as all external batteries have one or more
USB plug and you can plug in your regular Lightning cable and use it on
any
of your iPhones or you can plug in your Apple Watch charging cable with
the

round magnetic charger for the watch on the other end.
The only difference is that larger capacity batteries usually have more
than

1 plug and can charge 2 ore more devices at the same time.
Also, if your Apple Watch charger has a USB-C end which means a small plug
almost like a Lightning plug, then you may want to look for a power bank
which has at least one USB-C plug-in. You can get iPhone Lightning
charging

cables which also have Usb-C on the other end so ifi you found a battery
with just a single USB-C plug in then that would be something you have to
get.
I have a small Anker battery which is sort of like what Kelly described
although I think it is 6000 Mah and definitely a bit fatter, but it's also
older so maybe skinner versions are out there now.
I also have a rather expensive Hyper Juice battery which I think is 26,000
Mah and it has 4 USB-C plug-ins and it can even charge my Lenovo laptop.
But
it's not what you would most likely want to carry around on a daily bases,
I

often use it at home to charge various headsets because for something like
that you can literally use it for weeks or months without having to
recharge it. I also pack it when my wife and I go to the Philippines where
I
might be in places where sometimes the power is out or unreliable and
where

it's nice to have a battery which can recharge both of our phones, Apple
Watches and headsets multiple times.
Anker is a good brand and they have everything from small 3000 Mah
batteries

to the large 20,000 or even higher batteries, they are easily available on
Amazon and you get a quality item for a reasonable price.

RE: Power Bank?

2023-03-29 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I assume by powerbank you refer to an expernal battery. As Kelly pointed out,
you can get something small which will recharge an iPhone fully once or maybe
twice if you only charge when you are down to 40%. As to the type it really
makes little difference as all external batteries have one or more USB plug and
you can plug in your regular Lightning cable and use it on any of your iPhones
or you can plug in your Apple Watch charging cable with the round magnetic
charger for the watch on the other end.
The only difference is that larger capacity batteries usually have more than 1
plug and can charge 2 ore more devices at the same time.
Also, if your Apple Watch charger has a USB-C end which means a small plug
almost like a Lightning plug, then you may want to look for a power bank which
has at least one USB-C plug-in. You can get iPhone Lightning charging cables
which also have Usb-C on the other end so ifi you found a battery with just a
single USB-C plug in then that would be something you have to get.
I have a small Anker battery which is sort of like what Kelly described
although I think it is 6000 Mah and definitely a bit fatter, but it's also
older so maybe skinner versions are out there now.
I also have a rather expensive Hyper Juice battery which I think is 26,000 Mah
and it has 4 USB-C plug-ins and it can even charge my Lenovo laptop. But it's
not what you would most likely want to carry around on a daily bases, I often
use it at home to charge various headsets because for something like that you
can literally use it for weeks or months without having to recharge it. I also
pack it when my wife and I go to the Philippines where I might be in places
where sometimes the power is out or unreliable and where it's nice to have a
battery which can recharge both of our phones, Apple Watches and headsets
multiple times.
Anker is a good brand and they have everything from small 3000 Mah batteries to
the large 20,000 or even higher batteries, they are easily available on Amazon
and you get a quality item for a reasonable price.

Re: Power Bank?

2023-03-29 Thread Kelly Pierce
Someone can walk around with thick heavy bricks delivering days of
battery power. These big heavy bricks are unnecessary for iPhone
users. As blind people, we would rather walk around with a pocket
battery charger that can fully recharge an iPhone once or twice. The
5,000 mA battery chargers are lightweight and fit into a man’s pant’s
pocket. They are the size of two lighters or a thick tube of lipstick.
My favorite is the Slim 2 charger. It was only $12 US and came with a
charger and carrying case to fit the battery, wall charger, an
connecting cable. It carries enough juice to charge a regular iPhone
twice. If you go with a bigger battery bank, you will need to carry it
around in a bag or backpack.

RE: Need recommendation for power Bank for Apple Watch Series 8

2022-10-08 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi Sherrie.

I've never heard it called a power bank, but I think all it is is a large
capacity battery that you plug cables into to charge what you want. You can
also charge several things at once. If I'm right, your power bank uses large
USB connectors to charge things.

If I'm right on this, there's a cheaper way to get power to your watch charger.
The watch chargers that I have use USB-Cconnectors, whereas your power
bank uses USB A adaptors.

Something that works for my situation is a female USB C to female USB A
adaptor. It's very small, not connecting the adaptors with a cable. All you do
is plug the small plug of the charger into it, then plug the large end into the
power bank. Works like a charm, and I think Amazon sells a set of four for $4.
Work not only in a power bank, but also works to get USB-C in things that use
USB-A, such as old chargers.

Hope this helps.

I have multiple power banks for my iPhone, and they all have a USB output. None
of them work with my new Apple Watch. I have been scouring Amazon reading about
possible, watch power banks, but thought it would be good to get
recommendations of what might really work. So if you have a power bank for your
watch, please let me know which one you have if it is a good one.
Thanks so much,

Re: Power Bank recommendation for iPhone?

2021-12-05 Thread Kelly Pierce
I do not like carrying around heavy bricks when I do not need to. I
have bought a pocket sized charger that can charge an iPhone at least
once and possibly twice. It is the Poweradd Slim 2 Mobile Power Bank
Charger that has a capacity of 5000mAh. I bought one for $11.
Surprisingly, the USB-a to lightning cable that I keep with the
charger cost more. The charger comes with a carrying case and the
charging cables fit the case as well as the charger. With my tactical
pants with many pockets, it is a necessary addition to my mobile
digital lifestyle.

You can use Be My Eyes or Aira to ask what the LED lights indicate or if you
don't want to do that just charge them whenever or after you used it. They all
use Lithium batteries so charging them when they are only 20% depleted or 80%
depleted makes no difference and even if your battery is still 80% full and
you charge it overnight it's not going to hurt it.
You also develop a sense of how often you can charge your iPhone with whatever
battery you buy and most manufacturers also tell you how often you can charge
whatever model of phone you have. If you buy a 5000 MAH battery and you use it
when your iPhone is at around 30% or even 20% you can most likely charge most
iPhones twice before the battery is empty.

Re: Power Bank recommendation for iPhone?

2021-12-04 Thread Michael Feir
Other than an app like Be My Eyes, FaceTime or Aira, there's no way to tell
how charged most power banks are. You basically need sighted assistance.
The one accessible power bank I've got is from a company called Energrid
and I can't find it for sale anywhere these days. I've never been able to
use light detecting apps to distinguish the different lights on power banks
to indicate their charge. They're just too small.
Because of this, good charging habits are an absolute must. Plug any power
bank in at least once per week to keep it ready. Also, be certain to
purchase a power bank with a good amount of extra capacity. You can get
1 MA capacity power banks which are small, inexpensive and durable.
It's possible to carry those in a pocket if necessary. That's enough power
to charge an iPhone at least twice fully. You can also use them to keep
accessories like Bluetooth keyboards charged up. If you're carrying a bag
with accessories such as a keyboard, you can get power banks with
capacities like 26000 MA which can easily fit in the bag. They'll add some
weight but are worth it for when you're away from power sources for days at
a time.
I hope somebody creates an accessible power bank perhaps like the one I
have which vibrates or beeps to indicate the charge level. I also
appreciate that it doesn't have a flashlight. For most power banks, it's
advisable to use a light detecting app to check to make certain the built
in flashlight is turned off. I've had incidents when I was unaware that the
flashlight was on and uselessly shining in my pack draning the battery for
days with me none the wiser. Hope this helps people out.

Does anyone know of an accessible portable power bank that is available. I
found a couple of reviews online, but when going to the link provided, the
items were no longer available. I am not looking for a phone case that charges,
I am looking for something that can charge a phone and possibly other USB
devices and is simple for a blind person to use. I was really hopeful about one
of the items I had found, but sadly it is not being sold anymore. Any
information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Accessible Portable Power Bank

2021-11-11 Thread Duane Steele
I guess my power bank's an antique! Four years ago, The Harbolt Company briefly
carried a power bank that beeped or vibrated to indicate battery levels. I got
one of them, and it still works. Unfortunately, the company that made them
wanted too much money. So Brent Harbold was forced to discontinue carrying
them. To my knowledge, no other such accessible "juicebox" has ever been made.
I guess that when I no longer have this one, I'll have to rely on sighted help
or just guess when it's time to charge the box.

RE: Accessible Portable Power Bank

2021-11-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I know there used to be one, I think it was called Summit or something, which
could speak how much charge was left, but for thew most part there isn't much
to be accessible on an external battery apart from that. I really don't worry
too much about it, if I use it to charge my phone a couple of times I plug it
in and charge it and I guess you could always call Aira or Be My Eyes to get
them to check how many LED's are on or, if it's a fancier model with an LCD
screen to read that; Seeing AI may even be able to help there if it can scan
what's on the screen. Anyways, most models just have 3 or 4 LED's which
indicate how much charge is left.

Yeah, the one you described is the one I was reading about at AppleVis. It is
sad that it is no longer being sold, that would have been perfect for her.

Well there used to be one by inner grid that was 15,000 MAH that did exactly
what you described which had one button and unfortunately they’re not being
sold anymore it had two ports technically it had three but one was to charge
the juice pack which is what I will call it and it would beep and vibrate at
the same time again sadly it’s no longer happening as far as sale. I too also
on in anker one. it has a screen that actually is shaped like a circle and it
actually displays in print the levels of whatever you’re charging plus the
level of the battery pack or bank itself which I can’t use obviously it also
has a button on the side which is very typical but usually my iPhone beeps and
vibrates when I’ve plugged it into the power bank.

that is what they want. I am all for things being accessible, but at what a
cost? I have two regular ones, made by Anker, one 1 mah and the other
26000. I have never had one of them run completely down, I just keep an
approximate count of how long I have used them and recharge them in time. I
think the smaller one can charge this phone maybe 3 times, the other one maybe
6 times. I can tell when they are charging, they get warm around the charging
point, and begin to cool down when they have finished. I think the 1 mah
one now is about $25, the other one comparably priced. I remember the one that
came out a few years ago, that talked, and they wanted $85 for that thing. In
my opinion, what a waste of money!

Subject: Accessible Portable Power Bank

Does anyone know of an accessible portable power bank that is available. I
found a couple of reviews online, but when going to the link provided, the
items were no longer available. I am not looking for a phone case that charges,
I am looking for something that can charge a phone and possibly other USB
devices and is simple for a blind person to use. I was really hopeful about one
of the items I had found, but sadly it is not being sold anymore. Any
information would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Accessible Portable Power Bank

2021-11-11 Thread MamaPeach
I was asking for my elderly mother and she knows literally nothing about any of
this and which model would be easiest for her to use. I thought maybe someone
could give suggestions. Something that might have audible beeps or at least
vibrate. I do not think it would be a waste of money to her to spend a bit of
money to get something she is more comfortable with.

The following only is my opinion, if one wants an accessible power bank, then
that is what they want.
