RE: Braille commands for deleting app
Rich et al, You forgot that many times when companies hire new staff, they do not actually train them well enough. Look at what happened to the RIDE, also known as paratransit, under the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) years ago. When an announcement was made statewide, the RIDE staff were to have tough training for a certain period of time, but, after the period ended, what happened? Many of the drivers were not well-trained! I did tell the general manager assistant that they need more training. He did not say. Then, what? That same man left without letting me know! Same can happen to Apple staff. Think of it. RE: Braille commands for deleting app
Hi Rich, Well, I have worked with all the Braille Sense models as well as the Braille Edge and I can assure you that the commands are absolutely the same. Your point about all iPhones not working the same is true. You will note that none of the commands I gave for deleting an app actually used the rotor. Unless you do a rotor command before you do cord-dot6, and move it away from the default, then that could mess it up. The bottom line for all of us, blind but hearing, or deaf-blind, is that if something doesn’t work correctly, go back and make sure everything is correctly starting at the right place. If cord-dot6 doesn’t bring up the “arrange apps” option, then use cord-dots5,6 or 2,3 to make sure the rotor is on “action.” That is the kind of problem solving we all have to do. I will try selecting an Email and putting it into a text message only using the braille display and let you know what I find out. I hope you understand that I am not being critical , but trying to be clear and helpful. Use cord-dot4 or dot 1 to get to the app you want to delete. 2. Press cord-dot6. When it shows "arrange apps" press cord-dots 3,6. 3. Press cord-dot6 again so it shows "activate default." Press cord-dots3,6. 4. It will say "delete app" at that point, hit cord-dot6 until you get to the delete button and press cord-dots3,6. Now, this is where Apple should make two changes. When you are "arranging apps" and it shows "activate default" that should show "delete default" since that is now the default action. Also, to get out of edit mode, you have to press the physical home button on the phone. If you press cord-h it will exit terminal mode and your display won't be connected to your braille display. You may want to read step 3 again. I said to use cord-dot6 again to move to where it shows "activate default" which is what the Apple label says. Todd, "custom actions" is the feature where you may or may not see on your Braille display that there are "actions available" for any screen, such as the home screen. They are custom as both Apple and third party developers can have whatever they choose as available actions. So that's where I got the "custom" from. As for dot and key commands, I do not use a Braille display on iOS, so appreciate the dot or key command for a double tap which is now space with dots 3-6. Hope this answers and clarifies things. > On 19 Nov 2016, at 07:52, Todd Patkus <tpte...@gmail.com> wrote: > > Chris, > > That does not answer. RE: Braille commands for deleting app
Hi Todd, What Chris means by "custom action" is simply a reference to the new way of moving/arranging apps in iOS 10 which you do by flicking up or down when you are on the home screen with focus on whichever app you want to move or delete. I'm not sure if your braille display shows this, but if you touch an app or swipe to an app and wait for just a moment Voiceover says "Actions available". This is a reminder that you have actions available if you swipe up or down. As I explained before, the options are "Activate" which is the default and which simply opens the app or "Arrange Apps" which when activated with a double tap or, in your case, Chord 36. Once you press Chord 36 where it says "Arrange Apps" you then have to do whatever your equivalent braille display command is for a swipe up or down (it doesn't matter which as there are only 2 options) and then when you are on "Actions" you do another Chord 36 and this should bring up the delete prompt/confirmation. The other option is "Move" which if you activate it will allow you to go elsewhere on the screen and then swipe up or down where you find options which allow you to bring the original app to that point and you can insert it either before or after the app you are now on or create a folder with the two apps. For example, you may have your Settings app in the third row and in the second position from the left. Now you want to move it to the first row and put it in the very left position where, let's say, you currently have the Contacts app. You would first go to the Settings app, select the "Arrange Apps" option and activate it, then you would activate the Move option. Now you would go all the way to the top on your Contacts app, swipe down (or equivalent command) until you get to the option "Place Settings before Contacts", then double tap or press Chord 36 and Settings gets moved from row 3 to row 1 at the very left, Contacts slides over to row 1 second from the left and, of course, all other apps also slide one to the right which means whichever app was at the very right of each row is now on the very left in the row below. Re: Braille commands for deleting app
Exactly once only. There is also a command for double tap and hold which seems to only work sporadically. Simply double tapping is space with dots 3 and 6. For a double table and hold it's space dots 3 and 6 plus 7 and 8 which are your backspace and enter keys. Now that command does not always work but you should be able to delete apps in the way Sieghard described once you double tap and hold. If you have more problems, email me offlist I will try to help. RE: Braille commands for deleting app
Sieghard, Yes, hopefully one will pop up on the list with a better definition of the equivalent command for the Braille display. By the way, if I wanted to open an app, I either press on the cursor router more to the left of the display or chord dots 36, which is the same as enter. If I want to get out of the app, I either press the home button on the iPhone or chord h. With the two words--arranging... and activate, that is chord dot 6 repeatedly. Not to worry about this. We will find out soon. Thank you Stay well! RE: Braille commands for deleting app
Hi Todd, You wrote that you can see " arranging apps then activate". If you can get to "Activate" on your braille display you should just have to do whatever the braille keyboard command is for a double tap and it should ask then if you want to delete the app. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Todd Patkus Sent: Friday, November 18, 2016 7:21 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Braille commands for deleting app Dani, When I tried it, pressing dot 6, it said arranging apps then activate. Scot, Who do you yourself are? Quit hollering at me. I do not need you to yell at me like this. Your behavior is unacceptable. You yourself are very childish! You have no right to yell at anyone here. You also need to learn to be more friendly and more understanding! To all, please do not listen to him. He is very rude! Scott has behavioral problems, yes. I do not listen to him. I have done nothing wrong. Scott has! Thanks. Re: Braille commands for deleting app
Todd, You have a Braille display from Hims--I see your mail on theHims Notetaker list. I have a BrailleEdge. The process for deleting apps should be similar You can't do it just using the keyboard on the Braille display. You've got to use a combination of the keyboard and VO gestures. But there should be Braille feedback of everything VO says. 1) Navigate to the app you want to delete using the Dot1/4 with spacebar. When you get to the app 2) One-finger double-tap and hold on the app. VO should say, and Braille should show"Moving [app name]." 3) Lift your finger and double-tap. You'll get a message asking whether you want to delete the app. Navigate to the Delete button and double-tap it. (You can use your finger or the cursor routing button here.) 4) Hit your Home button to get out of app editing mode. HTH, Dani .
