Yes, you are talking about OutSpoken for the Mac made by Berkeley Systems back in the late 90's. Actually, in the early 80's, Apple had a rudimentary screen reader in the Apple II GS. I used it a couple times, but did not really like it. Voice-Over is much better and more robust. Yes, the Macbook Air has voiceover if that was the question being asked, and all Apple computers since 10.4 (Tiger) have voiceover. I could also deliniate exactly when iPhones and iPods got voiceover but I don't think it bears on what was being asked and I might not have the iPods right. Do you have an IPod Touch or IPhone now? If you buy a bluetooth keyboard you could create any documents on them that you could on an IPad. I have a student who has a Dropbox account and uses Droptext to creat documents. You can also use Pages and it is accessible with voiceover. Yes, we can. I am typing this on my Acer right now. I think it is about 2 years old and I could not work with JAWS Tandem on it because it is not powerful enough but I am sure that has changed by now. If however, you're doing more advanced word processing, spreadsheets, etc, I'd go with a smaller laptop. These tasks can be more time wasting than productive on an iPad in my opinion. I'm in college now, and for some classes I'll just take my iPad for note taking and email. However, when I'm going to my accounting class for example, I'll take my MacBook Air so I can use Excel in virtual Windows. Hope this helps you make you're decision. Matthew Campbell. RE: Ipad or mini laptop?
Hi, If you want a very small Windows laptop, there are quite a few that are around, or possibly less than, 10 inches. Acer and Asus I believe both make Netbook computers that are quite small. They are not going to have the battery life of an MacBook Air or an iPad. You can write text documents very easily on the iPad. Technically, you can write Word documents with Pages, but personally the effort you have to go to to deal with all the work around to me is not worth it. You can search the archives of this list to find lots of comments about word processing, or even go to www.applevis.com and read about the various text editing apps that have been recommended for the Apple devices. Re: Ipad or mini laptop?
The MacBook Air springs to mind; I reckon you can do more with that than the iPad, as good as the iPad otherwise is. Available network connectivity might be a consideration though, worth a closer look just in case. - Original Message - From: "Ramy Moustafa" To: Sent: Sunday, October 14, 2012 3:37 PM Subject: Ipad or mini laptop? HI all: I need something to take it on my colledge, to write somethings, do some researches online while am abroad etc, what should I buy, I pad or mini laptop, about 10 inch. and can't I find a mini laptop smaller than 10 inch? I think that most of people will say, I pad, but I need your true advice. Thanks in advance hCheers: Ramy Moustafa If music be the food of love... play on. Re: Ipad or mini laptop?
Hi. It really depends on the tasks that you want to accomplish. If you're just taking notes, checking email, web browsing, etc, I'd just go with an iPad paired with a bluetooth keyboard for speed typing.
