Re: Iphone Crash, Need Help Recovering

2014-02-08 Thread Kimberly
Have you tried turning off the phone by holding down the lock button for 3
seconds, letting the phone power off then plugging it in. While the phone is
plugged in, restart the phone by holding down the lock button for 6 seconds.
After a short time the phone will vibrate and VO will come on.

I hope this helps.

2014-02-08 Thread Patti Johnson
I wonder if somehow your voiceover got turned off in settings. I think
that happened to me last summer and nothing I did worked, but I had a
four at the time and no siri.
I had to take it to ATT and within seconds the guy there had it working
again.
But I wonder if you did a tripple tap home key or a two or three finger
double tap on the screen would it bring your speech back.
Sometimes mine will go away, my voiceover, for no reason and I either do
this or turn the phone off and turn it back on again.
And sometimes I have to repeat that a couple times. With our weather
being as nuts is it is, did you have any power glitches over there?

I'm sorry if none of this helped and hope you can get it figured out soon.

RE: Iphone Crash, Need Help Recovering

2014-02-08 Thread Alan Lemly
I also run an IPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.4. However, I am not running FileBrowser
so can't comment on whether that is the problem. I see that the latest
version of FileBrowser in the iTunes Apps Store only requires iOS 5.1 or
higher so maybe it is not the culprit. And I'm not convinced that upgrading
to iOS 7 after you get things working again will help that much with such
problems in the future. But that's just a gut opinion that I'm not really
qualified to have.

I'll ask the obvious question. Have you backed up your phone to either
iCloud or iTunes on your computer? I would think restoring a backup would be
your first course of action.

Since you say you can't shutdown the phone, I suspect you'll need to do
a reset as Alex suggests. However, whenever the phone is responding, I'd
suggest powering your phone off and back on again as Kimber describes. I
know it's not exactly the same, but I think of a reset by holding down
the lock and home buttons as an uncontrolled shutdown, similar to
hitting the power button on a PC. I'd only recommend doing this when the
normal power off option, by holding down the lock button for a few
seconds, isn't available to you. This will give your iPhone a chance to
shutdown everything gracefully.

I suspect you maybe did not hold down power+home for long enough for the
phone to reset. However, if Voiceover is off then of course it may reset and
you don't even know it.

Hooking it up to the computer is not a bad option, you could then do the
home+power button for at least 10 or so seconds, then walk away and leave it
alone for 10 or so minutes. Then go and check to see if the phone shows up
in iTunes. If it does go to the Summary tab and and tab until you get to
Accessibility, check here to see if Voiceover is turned on or off, if it's
off you can turn it on from within iTunes.

Another option would be to let it run out of battery, but that of course
could take some time especially since you said you charged it again already.
Since you have an iPhone 5, plugging in the lightning cable will also cause
the phone to boot up, but if the battery was dead it could take up to 10
minutes.

Lastly, don't you have a sighted person around you can simply ask what's
going on? That would be my first option if the normal attempt to shut it
down or reset it didn't work.

Sieghard

Subject: Iphone Crash, Need Help Recovering

Hello everyone,
I am sorry if this message comes through twice. I checked the archives on
line and did not see it there and it did not come to my inbox, so am sending
it again in case it did not arrive on the list.

I'm running iPhone 5 with iOS 6; have not updated yet. However, when my
phone recovers, I will do so posthaste! I suspect that I would have more
options for fixing the problem described below with iOS 7.

Last night, I launched File Browser and all functionality except Siri, the
alarm, and making phone calls with Siri is gone. I can't shut the phone
off; I have no sounds except with Siri; I have no speech from VO except with
Siri where VO works fine with all the gestures. I can call out by telling
Siri to call a contact. After that, I have a working keypad where I can dial
extensions. I can receive calls and while I am talking I have VO and
gestures work. However, when the call ends, everything is dead again.
nothing else works except that I get the buzz tone when I put the phone on
mute.

I thought I knew how to reboot -- holding down the home and on-off buttons
at the same time for several seconds. I have done this several times with no
affect. I have also charged the phone all night and there is no change.
Siri can't look things up on the web; when I ask her to tell me how to
reboot the phone, she goes to the web and then I have the totally silent
screen with no voice and no sounds.

If anyone can help, I would very much appreciate it. If a power user can't
help in an email, I can call someone's phone with Skype on my PC and would
pay for an expert's time if this was not a quick fix. Thanks very very much!
After I recover from this, I am going to update!!!
Thanks again for your help,
Terrie Terlau and a Very Sad iPhone -- or is that a very sad Terrie Terlau
-- or both . . .
