I expect the differing iOS run by iPads has something to do with that.

1 finger,

Start on the bottom edge just off the screen surface and slide smoothly and not
too fast up until you hear a second tone, there should also be a haptic
vibration.

Lift your finger and that takes you to the home screen.

The same gesture, but at the third sound or second vibration will take you to
the app switcher.

It takes some practice, and if you start hearing the usual screen clicks you
get with VoiceOver, you aren’t starting at the right place. It has to be a
smooth slide.

2020. As many have said, this gesture is for the phones without home buttons
beginning with the iPhone X.

2020-05-15 Thread Simon A Fogarty
It’s meant for the iphone models with no home button.

However you will probably find it is now on the iphone sE as well.

I know it’s available on my ipad mini gen 5 so I would think it’s on the se
also.

switcher is very cool. After my iPhone 8 goes I'll get an SE20.
However, after that it will be an even newer iPhone. There will
probably be newer iPhones even then the 12. Maybe I'll even get an
iPhone with 512 gigs of space instead of the 256 gigs that I have now.

1 finger,
Start on the bottom edge just off the screen surface and slide smoothly and not
too fast up until you hear a second tone, there should also be a haptic

HTH,

If anyone is really having difficulty with the default gesture to go home or
to bring up the app switcher remember that you can change the gesture in the
Voice Over settings. Just double tap on Commands and then look for the
gesture that you want to use. I use a 2 finger swipe right for the Home
button and a 2 finger swipe left for the app switcher.

Shirley, you just use one finger to swipe up. I use my right index finger.
You place it on the bottom of your screen and swipe until you get this kind
of pop. VOILA, Home Page. If you go for another pop, Ap Switcher.

Coming down from the top, place finger at the top of the screen; first pop
is Control Center; second one is Notifications.

On another list, a savvy user posted the way to do with the new phones. I
read her post over and over, did not try to learn it, just read it over and
over for absorbtion. When I got my new phone, my husband was astounded. I
never had a second's worth of a problem.

Someone, I think on this list, said that you could go to Settings to
Assistive Touch, activate it, and it would make the phone work like it had a
button at the bottom. I can see how that could work for Home Page and Ap
Switcher, but, you'd just have to use the old way, as you can anyway, even
without Assistive Touch to get to Control Center or Notifications.

I might have to try the assistive touch method, I am having a lot of
problems with the swiping, I am not used ot it, I know it takes practice and
I will practice it over the next little while. But setting up the assistive
touch might be the way to go.

HTH,

You can turn on VoiceOver Help and practice the gesture if you need
to. This would be a great way to practice the newer gestures for going
home, to the app switcher, and to the control and notification
centers. You will also use it when unlocking your phone with Face ID.

I just got the IPhone x. I am not used to not having a home button. Can someone
guide me on what is the best way to swipe to access it? I'm not really good at
swiping, as usually with my old phone I did everything manually and I didnt
swipe much. Its telling me to swipe from the bottom of the screen upwards,
until I hear it vibrate once. how many fingers do I use to swipe, and how fast
do I swipe the screen?
