Hmm, this doesn't make any sense to me. I'd assume the feature where they shut off when you pull them out of your ears would just be dependent on the ear buds themselves and wouldn't have anything to do with the system you connect them to. I'll have to give them a try with my PC sometime soon, since this has all peeked my curiosity. Plus it also seems that this is the only thing you meant when you said " You can use them with a windows machine but that's not going to work well." When I take off the apple Airpods Max, they disconnect from the Windows machine just like they disconnect from the iPhone. Years ago sony use to be the way to go. I am quite certain something like that would be available on Amazon, if not it may just be necessary to use a separate headset for your laptop or other devices. I agree about the Apple buds - bought a couple from a lady on one of the sell lists. Of course, one came with my phone. Then, I have the ones from my SE in my computer speakers. I know he said he was looking for alternatives, but for me an alternative which its inside the ear and blocks off all or most sound is not an alternative. Despite the fact that the Apple Earbuds break from time to time I still think they are the best wired ear buds on the market as far as sound qualiy, functionality and not blocking out external noise are concerned.
