Re: Speaking Rate in VoiceOver

2021-05-11 Thread Kelly Hill
Sometimes people with some usable vision want to have some but not all things
spoken. In that case, speak screen and speak selection can be very useful.

RE: Speaking Rate in VoiceOver

2021-05-11 Thread Richard Turner
I was thinking that may have gotten in your way, but obviously not.

Those settings are primarily for people who do not want VoiceOVer on all the
time, but want to be able to have certain things read out loud. If someone has
low vision and can manage the short things, but when it comes to longer emails,
or web sites, speak screen allows them to swipe down with two fingers from the
Status Bar and it will read aloud. Some people use this for Apple Books
because once you get it started reading, you can lock the phone and it
continues reading. You cannot lock your phone while VoiceOver is reading an
Apple book.

The speak highlights again is for someone not wanting to use VoiceOver all the
time, but they can highlight text and there is a speak button they can press
and have it read out to them.

Then there is the typing feedback setting. Even if those others are off, if
the typing feedback is on for characters or words, it will speak those as they
are typed with or without VoiceOver being on.

The speaking rate here is supposed to just control the speech rate for these
functions and should not affect VoiceOver.

You may also want to go into the VoiceOver settings and change the default
speech rate and see if that helps at all.
I’ve never heard of the rotor being on speaking rate and nothing happening.

Simon,
IN VoiceOver settings, it goes up by 10.
ON the rotor, it goes up by 5.
You can force it I guess with the long press in settings, but it is just easier
to have it on the rotor.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering, is it possible to change the speaking rate of the voiceover
voice, to increments of 5?

Right now, I have the Alex voice set to 60. But that's a bit too slow for me.

However, 70 is just a bit too fast. So I would like to set it at 65, if at all
possible. But I wasn't sure how to do this. I tried, but it only seems to move
in 10's.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Changing speaking rate of voiceover voice

2020-12-08 Thread Richard Turner
Simon,
IN VoiceOver settings, it goes up by 10.

2020-12-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That is definitely the best way, but if you don't want to add speaking rate to
the rotor, you can do it in settings, but you have to double tap and hold on
the volume slider and then drag left or right, you can then set it to 63 or 67
or whatever, but it's a very finnicky process, you need a steady hand and the
amount you have to drag your finger left or right is minute, this might be a
case where a stylus could be useful.

Yes, add Speech rate to the rotor if it isn't there.
Turn the rotor to speaking rate and flick up or down and it moves by 5.

Hey Flor,

It kind of a flicking motion that you use. If you flick up kind of like your
snapping your fingers and flick down the same way you should be able to control
the rate. Don't get frustrated it took me a while to to get used to it.

Re: Adjusting the Speaking Rate of VoiceOver

2014-07-09 Thread Alan Paganelli
Hi,

When I was new to voice over, I wanted the speaking rate in the rotor. As I
got use to it, I found I didn't use that control and so I took it back out.
That's the nice thing about the rotor, you control what you want it to control.

Regards,

Alan

I think you can have the lot if you want but there are 2 rotors. There is a
language rotor where you can add other voices like the British voice so your
iPhone reads with a male British voice or if you speak another language let's
say French for example, you can have that voice.

Subject: Adjusting the Speaking Rate of VoiceOver

Hi,

This should be a straightforward thing. How do I adjust the Speech
Rate of VoiceOver? If I do it in Settings | General | Accessibility |
Voiceover, by double-tapping on Speaking Rate, Adjustable, and then
swipe up or down with one finger to adjust the value, all that
happens then is that I run into the other VoiceOver settings for Sound
Effects, Braille, this and that, but I can only slightly adjust the
speech rate. (At the moment I am hovering at about 51%. I'd like to
adjust that downward eventually to maybe about 11%.) Am using iOS7.1.2
or the latest iOS update on iPhone 5S. I mostly use braille, but
needed to see if I could help a situation where braille
reading/scrolling was a bit too slow in a particular newspaper app.)
TIA for assistance.

Thanks to you and to Alex. This rotor is something I've yet to experiment with,
how you can apparently add things to it - customize your VO experience, as it
were. . Sounds handy too.

You can also switch the rotor to speech and swipe down to slow down the rate
and swipe up to speed it up.

You are in the right place, but find that adjustable item and simply swipe
up or down. That is, don't double tap on it first, just move to it and swipe.
It should adjust in five percent increments. Also be sure that the up/down
swipe is fast enough; it sounds like you may be moving your finger too slowly,
and having the gesture interpreted as simply moving your finger on the screen.
The up/down flick should be as fast as a left/right flick.

Well, looking at the timestamps on these messages it looks like the
delivery of messages here is somewhat delayed, possibly due to the
volume of messages on the list. Not sure at all, though, why nmessages i
sent on Saturday should only have been delivered on list this evening of
the 8th July. A similar thing happened the previous weekend. I run a
googlegroup myself, and the message delivery there is as quick as it
should be. Apologies for venting about the problem!

Re: Adjusting the Speaking Rate of VoiceOver

2014-07-08 Thread Mac
Hey Flor,

It kind of a flicking motion that you use. If you flick up kind of like your
snapping your fingers and flick down the same way you should be able to control
the rate. Don't get frustrated it took me a while to to get used to it.
