Re: Voice Dream and iTunes

2016-04-04 Thread Russ Kiehne
The problem for me with using iCloud Drive, it will take a long time to
tramsferr large zip files. I download old time radio shows in zip files and
they are around 600mb in size. This is where I've been using itunes file
sharing to transfer these files to voice dream reader.

You can do either, though file sharing does not work exactly as before.
As soon as you add a file to the Voice Dream folder in iTunes, it transfers
automatically according to Winston, this is different than before.
You can also use iCloud Drive and add things to the loader folder under
Reader.

Loading using iTunes from a PC or Mac

From the iTunes application after you connect your device via USB, you
can select "Apps". Scroll down to "File Sharing" section and you'll find
Voice Dream Reader in the list of Apps. Select it, and click on "Add.."
button to the right to select the files to move to your device. These

The iTunes option has been removed. Now the app automatically loads all

Hi,

Just to add to Richard's information below: I had to deal with this a few
weeks ago when I needed to back up my VDR library. I had to do an awful lot
of tabbing in order to get past all my apps and to find the file sharing
options. I found the process rather inaccessible and I kept receiving an
error message from iTunes when I tried to copy the library, having finally
managed to locate it.

Winston recommended that I use a program called iExplorer, rather than
iTunes. It's available on both Mac and Windows and it allows you to navigate
your devices and iTunes backups with an interface which is a bit like
Windows Explorer, and certainly a lot easier than iTunes for this purpose.
I'm pretty sure it was free, and it should allow you to paste content into
the Documents folder in Voice Dream on your device. Obviously your device
has to be connected to the computer, with iTunes running.

HTH,

Nicky

The iTunes option has been removed. Now the app automatically loads all
files you drop in Voice Dream Reader's document folder from iTunes on a PC

transferring to Voice Dream Via ITunes was:Re: differences between read2go and voice dream reader

2013-11-09 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Well, I think I have finally figured out how to do it. After selecting the
file, swipe back to load, it is before the done button. It will say extracting
text, with an okay button when it is finished. Then tapped the done button.
At least you will then be able to find your book in Voice Dream, and most of
the time, it will read it. I have a couple that it won't read, I have yet to
figure out why, but most of them, it will.

  more about voice dream reader.
I have the following situation. Finally I transferred the books, daisy text
only to my iPhone. Later in the add button, I selected iTunes, and I selected
all books that I transferred with iTunes to my iPhone as daisy books, text
only. Later I press done, and this little window closed.
But any way, I can see the books anywhere in the app.
Any body knows how use this app, the manual or help that it brings is not
very helpful.
  Thanks in advance.

I’ve not added daisy text books via iTunes to Voice Dream Reader.

I have only used BookShare for that.

I’d suggest writing to the developer if someone else doesn’t have a

ok, I have another question. I understood that voice dream reader plays
daisy books. Even daisy text only. I add 10 books in daisy, daisy only text to
voice dream reader in iTunes, but only appears a book in daisy, a audio daisy
book, where are the 9 books that are in daisy text only?

I added these files been in zip, as I did with read2go, it is the right
way to add daisy books to the voice dream reader?

  Two more things:

Much better support to since it is created by a developer who
responds quickly to user feedback.

And, with the latest version, you can use any of the VoiceOver
built-in voices.

The only thing that read 2 go does better than Voice Dream is if you
are using a braille display. Apparently read 2 go is easier to use that way.
But, otherwise, Voice Dream is far better in every other way.

Voice Dream offers many voices, most for a few dollars each, and
can read books from Bookshare, Google Drive, Dropbox, and more. It is much
easier to control playback, it supports folders, it opens a wider range of file
formats, and it has basic support for mp3 audio books (not the same as daisy
audio). As mentioned, Voice Dream offers a free trial, which is fully-featured
except it will only read a few seconds of a book at a time.
