RE: handwriting help

2013-10-10 Thread Sandy Finley
OK. I am now in Accessibility.
I have just double tapped VoiceOver On, followed by the same for VoiceOver
Practice.
The toggle switch is set to Handwriting help' in other words, if I touch
that toggle it says, general help and I am not double tapping it.
Now, when I touch the screen VO says,
Touch, draw letters and numbers on the screen to input text...

I thought that this was a place where I could practie my handwriting on the
screen. Is my expectation wrong? Doesn't seem like much help!

do need to have selected it so that it can appear on the rotor, but you can
have the rotor set to anything you like when you go to VoiceOVer settings
and double-tap the VoiceOver Practice button.

Hi,

As with general help, VoiceOVer tells you what gestures you are making and what
they will do. To write letters and have VoiceOVer tell you what they are, open
a note or some other app where you can enter text and try drawing letters with
your finger. After you draw a letter and lift your finger, VoiceOVer tells you
what you wrote.

Best,

RE: handwriting help

2013-10-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Sandy,

If you activate/turn the rotor to handwriting on the home screen, any
letters you write on the screen will narrow down your apps to those that
start with that letter. A good one to try is C since there are a lot of
apps that start with C, you will most likely get Calculator, Calendar,
Camera, Clock, Compass, Contacts etc. As soon as you draw the letter on the
home screen, Voiceover will say how many apps it found in the list and read
the first one, you can do a 2-finger swipe down to move down the list or
draw a second letter to narrow the list down further. For example, if you
next draw an L, you will most likely be left with Clock alone and
Voiceover will say 1 app. Do a 2-finger swipe left to erase the second
letter you just wrote and you are back to 7 apps in my case, if I do
another swipe left to delete the c, Voiceover will say 73 apps which is
the number of apps on my phone and I can now swipe down the list which will
be presented in alphabetical order.

As Cara said, there are a lot of small and some fairly significant Voiceover
enhancements in iOS 7, handwriting and the 4-finger triple tap to copy the
text Voiceover last spoke to the clipboard are only 2 of them. I personally
don't experience any bugs which bug me all that much, yes, not being able to
move the cursor in the first or last name field when editing a Contact is
inconvenient, so is the fact that Voiceover doesn't say the type of phone
number like Home, Work, Mobile etc. in the Favorites list if you have the
same person in it with multiple numbers, but all of those I find fairly
minor. Maybe if you use the phone differently or if you are a braille user
there are more significant bugs, can't comment on that since I have never
found it necessary to use a braille display to accomplish what I needed to
do.

Regards,
Sieghardnot so .
