RE: iPod Touch 5TH Generation battery issue
If you refer to the fact that after you plug in the cable it takes some time for the iPod to come back on then this is normal behavior. If you run your iPod battery down to the point where it shuts off then it can take up to 5 minutes for the iPod to come back on, 2 to 3 minutes is more likely, but it's not like you plug it in and it immediately boots up. Every iDevice behaves like that. It is not good for the battery to get run down until it shuts down. It is much better to plug your iPod in when you are between 40% and 20%, at least when you get the 10% low battery warning you should plug it in and your battery will last longer if you charge it more frequently and maybe run it all the way down only once every month or two. I rported the same behavior when I got my 5th Generation last Fall. Apple replaced it and when it died at 12'%, I decided to just live with it. This is one of those flaws that Apple won't acknowledge. I just make sure to charge mine before it gets down to 12'%. Re: iPod Touch 5TH Generation battery issue
My iPod Touch 5th gen turns itself off at 20%; it does warn me about this pending action. I have absolutely no problem with this. The times I accidentally left it turned on and it killed the battery, I simply left it charging for about 20 minutes then turned it on and voice came back to life. Re: iPod Touch 5TH Generation battery issue
I know it is meant to auto-shutdown when power is low; but yes, I've had an old iPhone go as low as 7%, I put it on charge then, never left one long enough to see how low it would go. But it needs to retain some charge to hold settings, though it doesn't need a lot, it has to make a decision at some point. Be interested to see how this pans out. I charged it to a full charge and then used it for close to 7 hours when it got to 12 percent, it shut itself down. I spoke with Apple and they had me reset all settings. I brought it to a full charge again, and once again when it got to 12 percent battery left, it shut itself down again. I don't know if VO is misreporting the battery lifeor what. Re: iPod Touch 5TH Generation battery issue
Lithium ion batteries also can't reach a zero charge without causing permanent damage to the battery, so the electronics built into them will shut them down before they reach an absolute zero charge. I'd assume the meter would take this into account though. Have you tried recalibrating the battery? I haven't done this on my iPhone, but I did it recently on my netbook, which was automatically shutting down when the battery indicator was still saying I had about 30% charge left. After recalibrating, it's acting normally, although I haven't actually seen how far I can take the battery charge down before it shuts off, it is letting me know I have significant less charge in this old battery now than it did before I recalibrate. To recalibrate, just let the battery go down as far as it can and then plug it in and let it charge all the way up. I've seen people say you nay need to do this 2 or 3 times, but I've never done it more than once myself. Re: iPod Touch 5TH Generation battery issue
I realize your message was very wellintended, but I think you missed a step. As far as it will run down is 12 percent. twice now, I havelet it run to the point where it shuts itself off, which it thinks is as far as it can run down; twice I have brought it back to a full charge. If the battery was going to recalibrate, I think it would have done so. Hence, I think there is a hardware problem and I am going to take steps to get a replacement as soon as I can. Thanks for everyones feedback on this. Yes this happened on the 4th generation iPod Touch that I have now sold. At one point, it shut down at 69%! Lol! I only found this out when starting to charge it. RE: iPod Touch 5TH Generation battery issue
Hi Richard, I had the same problem when I bought my first iPod Touch which was a third Generation back in 2009. I did basically the same as you which is what Apple support wanted me to do. Then I phoned them back and told them it was still going through the battery like crazy and they asked me to send it back and I received a new unit. I wouldn't fool around, just insist on getting a new one since you tried everything. Re: iPod Touch 5TH Generation battery issue
Hi Sieghard and David, The battery life is pretty good, but the odd part is that it acts as if 12 percent is the lowest it can go. I plan to talk with them about getting a replacement, but you have to go through their hoops first. I just wanted to know if anyone else with the fifth generation touch are seeing anything like this. I hope it isn't a wide spread issue, just my unit, the more information I have from other 5th gen touch users, the better. Re: iPod Touch 5TH Generation battery issue
I have had older versions of the IPod touch do the same thing. I don't know if that helps you any. I guess it really means you can't use the last 12% of the battery and now that I think about it, I can understand why that is not so good.
