Hi Mary,
I have to agree with Cristopher here. If you look at the voices
for NVDA, from Vocaliser, or on android, or anywhere else, they
are much smaller, and sound different. Apple and Nuance can be
blamed just as much, equally.

2016-09-15 Thread Mary Otten
Well, given the fact that there are apparently plenty of people on these lists
who don't think the voices are problem, maybe Apple isn't hearing a lot from
people who do think they are problem. And maybe they don't know. After all, the
number of people who use these voices, compared to the number of overall
customers, is exceedingly small. So raise your voice. I know I have requested
that they open up their system to the point where we can use other voices that
they don't provide. And that hasn't gotten me anywhere.

Sorry, I was just assuming Apple was paying some royalties to Nuance to

You're right, but Apple chooses to use and upgrade these voices, and I'm
sure they also have some influence with Nuance, so I think it's fair to
let Apple share some of the responsibility.

Hi, I know it's subjective, but hearing the difference between IOS9 and IOS10
Samantha may not be subjective. Whether you like the change, that is. But
noticing... Either ways, try listening to the word, hotspot, with the IOS10
Samantha.

I too did not notice any difference between before the update and after. I
have always gone back to the compact voice. When you update, you always get
the enhanced automatically. Maybe that causes confusion.

Apple gets these voices from Neuance. When an update comes out, Apple
updates the voices, so it isn't really Apple's fault. I do know what you
mean about Samantha. I use Alex, or Fred.

Hello Dan, I echo what you are saying. The quality of voices are very poor with
this new update. One often wonders why they touch what isn't broken. The
voices were not bad before they should just have left it alone. Just my opinion.

Re: poorquality of voices

2016-09-15 Thread Daniel L. Gervais
Wow, I kept getting teased by friends when I used to stay with Samantha, they
kept saying that she sounded like she smoked a couple of packs of cigarettes a
day and when iOS 9 came out last year, for some odd reason, she didn't sound
the same as she once did, so I switched to the Siri Female compact voice and
prefer that one now.

I even went as far as trying the compact voices for the Australian and Brittish
voices but keep coming back to the Siri Female Compact voice. I have
downloaded the Enhanced Siri Female voice as it is better for interacting with
Siri, but for a voice for using my iPhone everyday, I prefer the compact voices.

Re: poorquality of voices

2016-09-15 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Dan,
It seems to me that there is a little bit of a distortion going on with these
voices, it's almost like what used to happen if you have an analog recorder and
you had your recording will set just a little bit too high, so that it was over
modulated or somewhat distorted. Alex doesn't do that thank God. I think it
helps to back off the voiceover volume a bit.
