Help with downcast

2017-05-14 Thread Judy Pryor
I downloaded Downcast yesterday and am feeling very stupid as I cannot get the
podcast I downloaded to play. I have looked for basic instructions on how to
use the App but have had no luck.
I would be grateful if somebody could help.

Torch does mean the flashlight.
I don't know how many countries use Torch, but I know it is common amongst
British territories.

Lisa,
Thank you for the suggestion of Color Inspector.
My wife, the quilter, pulled out a bunch of fabric and she was impressed with
how accurate it is as well as extremely fast.
A couple hints.
Hold the camera steady until you hear the same color two or three times in a
row.
I have it on my iPod Touch 6th and I have the torch on low.
Since it is very fast and constant, a two finger double tap will pause it and
give you the current color name and color concentration.
Then, you can double tap on the menu button in the upper right and adjust the
zoom level, the color detection area and the torch level.
If you have hints on, or maybe even if you don't, wait a little while after
flicking to one of the settings and it will tell you what the next setting is
for that item, which you double tap to activate of course.
So, it might say "normal zoom" then the hint is "switch to 2x zoom, etc.

I have not been bothered by any ads, so just going with the free app seems to
work perfectly fine.
If you double tap on support/app info, and then on remove ads, you find out
that the price is up to you. It has several prices that you can choose from
if you want to support the developer.
It was updated last June when VoiceOver support was added.

I'm very impressed.

Hi. I have an app called Light detector that is either free or around $1 U.S.
This will let you know if lights are on and it can give you a percentage of
light by touching the screen. It will also raise or lower the tone according
to how bright the light is and it can be used to find flashing lights or even
LEDS if you are familiar with your phone enough to not block the camera while
finding and positioning the phone in relation to the LED.

The best color I.D. app I've tried is called Color Inspector. There's a free
and a paid version with no ads. This app lets you adjust the brightness of the
flashlight as well as zoom in on the area you're wanting to know the color of.

As far as names, this app will use regular names for colors as far as red,
blue, green, etc., but it can be more detailed, using turquoise or sea green
for the color Jade, for example. Some of this depends on how bright the
flashlight is and how close the phone is to the article being described

Out of the several color ID apps I've tried, Color Inspector is the easiest and
provides detailed colors without being too complex.

If the book on Kindle is fairly new, it is probably a publisher copy on

Yes Chef not working correctly

2017-05-14 Thread Barry Abbott
I'm wondering if anyone has been experiencing the following issues with the Yes
Chef App.
Examples:

1. My verbal command:  "Chef — What Can I Say?" Yes Cheff responds "I Didn't
get that." "I heard, 'What can I say'?"
"Looking for something? Try saying "Chef Followed was search recipe name or
incredients."
2. My Verbal Command "Search for chocolate cake Recipe."
Responce "I didn't get that. I heard 'search for chocolate cake recipe.'
"Looking for something? Try saying "Chef Followed was search recipe name or
incredients."

If you dictate into the search field using the regular dictation or type in
what you want E.G. Chocolate Cake." It brings up results.
I am running the latest version of iOS on an iPhone 7. My wife uses an iPhone
5S. She sent an email to the developer supp...@conversantlabs.com and the email
was rejected. "Mailbox not available."

Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Barry

RE: copying music from phone to itunes for windows

2017-05-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Sherry,

I was looking for Music2Go and didn’t find anything. I then searched for Andre
Rocha and found several apps, maybe he renamed it at some point because in
addition to an app called Ringtome Wizard Pro he has two separate apps, both
cost $2.79 here in Canada (probably $1.99 in the US) and both were last updated
on October 1, 2016. One is called “Song2email and one is called Song Express
Pro, the description is identical. There is also a thirda pp called Song
Exporter Pro which is also the same price, it was last updated on October 6,
2016 and it apparently let’s you connect to your iPhone or iPad via a web
interface of some sort and export all the songs on your phone to your
computer/iTunes.

I have an app on my phone calledMusic2Go, Andre Rocha, Version 1.2.
It is VO friendly. For me, the easiest way to get a song from the phone to the
computer is to use the email option of the app. After each song there is an
export button. Then you can choose various options. When I chose mail it
automatically opened an email with the song attached. I just had to tap send
and it was done. It might be slow if you have a lot of songs to transfer, but
it works. You would have to open the email on your computer and save the
attachments. Then you could add them to iTunes. As far as I know you cannot
sync songs from your phone to iTunes because it will erase the ones on the
phone when you sync. Sent from Sherrie's iPhone

RE: Speed test your network.

2017-05-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And you can go to www.speedtest.net on your computer
if you want to test there. If you use the Google Chrome browser you can install
the Speedtest from Ookla extension and access it this way very conveniently and
in a very accessible way.
Also, FYI, this app used to be much less accessible, but about 2 or 3 years ago
the developers decided to change that and it’s been good ever since.

I've been using this app for a long time. It's quite accessible with Voiceover,
which even speaks the numbers automatically as the tests complete, ping,
upload, and download in that order. It has ads, which you can remove with an
in-app purchase.

Re: Does anyone know how I can link my Twitter and Facebook accounts so I can simultaneously post to both?

2017-05-14 Thread 'Eleanor Roberts' via VIPhone
Hi all

Thanks so much for all this useful information. How do I go about linking them
through twitter.com?? I've tried going into settings and apps, but nowhere is
voiceover saying anything about connecting to Facebook. So if someone could
send me some totally idiot-proof instructions on how to do this with voiceover
I'd be so grateful. I've managed to do it the other way round (Facebook to
Twitter), and that was very very easy. However, Twitter to Facebook doesn't
appear to be as straightforward.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks.

Book share book quality ratings and voice dream reader

2017-05-14 Thread Mary Otten
I am curious if anyone has ever written to Winston about the possibility of
having the quality rating for a book included in the information you get
invoice dream reader. I could certainly do it, and I will, if no one has ever
gotten a definitive response from him that it cannot be done. This is the one
piece of information that I feel hold voice dream back with respect to
obtaining good quality book share books. There is, for instance, a book for
sale rather inexpensively right now on Kindle. The same book is available on
book share. Of course, I can go to a PC, logon to book share and find the
quality rating that way. And I guess I will. But it would be nice if you could
get it in Voice Dream.

RE: Setting up new Apple email?

2017-05-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi,

I just logged in and did not find it difficult to locate the button to turn off
two-factor authentication. I assume what you may have missed is the fact that
after you log in at http://appleid.apple.com you can't change anything until
you activate the "Edit" button for the area you want to change, e.g. for the
personal information area, the security area etc.
If you start at the top of the page and use the quick nav key for buttons it
would be the second edit button as the first applies to changes to your
personal information.
Once I activated this edit button I had the option to change my password and
the last date when I changed it was displayed, it was able to add another
trusted phone number and, as I said, in the two-factor security section a
button to "turn off two-factor authentication" was available. I didn't do this,
but I understand that if you do this you have to select 3 new security
questions and provide answers and maybe there is another step, but changing the
password as far as I can tell is not required. Here is an Apple support article
about two-factor authentication:

https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT204915

In the frequently asked questions area one of the questions is "Can I turn off
two-factor authentication after I’ve turned it on?"
The answer given is "You can't turn off two-factor authentication for some
accounts created in iOS 10.3 or macOS Sierra 10.12.4 and later. If you created
your Apple ID in an earlier version of iOS or macOS, you can turn off
two-factor authentication.

In other words, if you create a new Apple Id using iOS 10.3 and later or macOS
Sierra 10.12.4 and later, it appears people are stuck with two-factor
authentication, but if you had your Apple Id for some time as most of us have
you should be OK. I also assume that since this is not mentioned that if you
create an Apple Id using a PC you should be OK and able to turn off two-factor
authentication.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Sieghard

I believe there must be another step to fulfill: changing password. I did like
you said and noticed 2stepverifications is on for my account but there is no
way to turn it off once logged in.
I think you have to change the password of the account to do so.

Why is .iCloud more proprietory than .me? I guess she can always set up a gmail
or outlook account, but then again they are all proprietory just as are those
from various providers as they all have the provider's domain. I guess you
could go and register your own domain, but that is a lot of work and some cost
to go through for an email address.

I did, she didn't, now won't as she don't want such a proprietory domain.

Hi Bob,

If you created an account with one of Apple's earlier services, that address
will still work, which is why me.com
addresses work. I'm pretty sure that if you're creating an account now,
though, it will be iCloud. I don't think there are any other
options.

Re: Book share book quality ratings and voice dream reader

2017-05-14 Thread Mary Otten
The book in question was first available on book share in 2010. I can't
remember when publisher quality books started becoming available, but I don't
think it was that long ago. Of course, it could be an excellent scan. So the
only way to find out really is to either read the book or go to the site and at
least see what the quality rating was given by the folks who rated it.

2017-05-14 Thread Richard Turner
I doubt they were getting much in 2010, but they sometimes get more recent
copies.
I just wrote Winston so we will see what kind of reply we get.

I would think he may be able to add that to the info along with publisher, add
date, etc.

2017-05-14 Thread Gadget Girl
Hello. When I first got the Downcast App back in 2012, I listened to a podcast
I found on the iBlindTech.com website. Although the podcast was done in 2012,
and the app has had updates since then, I thought the podcast would still be
helpful, as it will familiarize you with the App. I have pasted the link

there's no in-app purchases in this game. That is very rare with games in
general, and blindness games in particular. If I'm playing a game that I'm
invested in, like this one, then I don't mind doing in-app purchases. I would
encourage others to leave similar comments in reviews for the app. Perhaps
in-app purchases could be used to retain all of the gold that you've collected

I've been using this app for a long time. It's quite accessible with
Voiceover, which even speaks the numbers automatically as the tests
complete, ping, upload, and download in that order. It has ads, which
you can remove with an in-app purchase.

Hi all

Apologies for cross-posting, but I'm hoping someone might know the answer to
this/be able to help me. I have a Twitter and a Facebook account, and I'd
like to be able to link the 2 so that I can simultaneously post to both. I'm
using IOS. A friend told me that it was possible, and gave me the name of an
app, TweetCaster, but when I downloaded it I found it terribly inaccessible
with VoiceOver. I then tried to look up how to do it online, and managed to
totally confuse myself with all the different methods that came up. So I was
wondering if anyone knew/could tell me of the best way/how I can go about
linking my 2 accounts? Do I need to do it through websites?, or is there a
more accessible app that will allow me to do so?

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Eleanor

RE: Help with downcast

Depending on how it is set up. When you open downcast, it should start
downloading any subscriptions you have. About 30 seconds it should make a
sound indicating that the podcast is being downloaded. After that just start
swiping to the right and it should be there. Double tap on that and swipe to
the right and it should pop up with the date of the podcast. Double tap on
that and should start playing. That's how I do it. Hope that works for you.

again.
Also, have you tried powering off your phone and waiting about 30 seconds and
powering back up?

HTH,
Richard

Subject: Siri issues.

Hi all,

Lately I have noticed that Siri will say I can't help you or I don't
understand as soon as I press the home button.

Wondering if others are having this issue and what the problem may be?

It is quite annoying.

Have checked my Internet connection both 4G and Wi-fi and they seem to
be working.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kind regards,

Alexa on my ipod touch

2017-05-14 Thread Russ Kiehne
I installed the Alexa app along with the Amazon shopping app on my ipod touch.
I noticed that not all of the Alexa features can be accessed? Is there a way
of being able to access all of the Alexa features on my ipod touch?

Crafting Kingdom princess questions

2017-05-14 Thread Wayne Merritt
Good day. I've gotten the game Crafting Kingdom this weekend and can see why it
is addicting. A question about the princess. When you get her gift of a slight
increase in sales, does that take effect immediately during the game, or does
it start the next time you reset the game? I have found it hard to believe that
there's no in-app purchases in this game. That is very rare with games in
general, and blindness games in particular. If I'm playing a game that I'm
invested in, like this one, then I don't mind doing in-app purchases. I would
encourage others to leave similar comments in reviews for the app. Perhaps
in-app purchases could be used to retain all of the gold that you've collected
during the game between resets. That would really help so that you didn't have
to start all over again.

Regards,

Wayne Merritt

Re: Setting up new Apple email?

2017-05-14 Thread Davy Cuppens

Hi Sieghard

I believe there must be another step to fulfill: changing password. I did
like you said and noticed 2stepverifications is on for my account but there
is no way to turn it off once logged in.

I think you have to change the password of the account to do so.

Davy

Why is .iCloud more proprietory than .me? I guess she can always set up a
gmail or outlook account, but then again they are all proprietory just as
are those from various providers as they all have the provider's domain. I
guess you could go and register your own domain, but that is a lot of work
and some cost to go through for an email address.

I did, she didn't, now won't as she don't want such a proprietory domain.

Thanks everso, BobH.

Hi Bob,

If you created an account with one of Apple's earlier services, that address
will still work, which is why me.com
addresses work. I'm pretty sure that if you're creating an account now,
though, it will be iCloud. I don't think there are any other

options.

Best,
Anna

was more, and still included the legacy me.com too.

Help on where and how to select would really be appreciated just now.

Thanks, BobH.
