viewing shared calendars?

2019-08-13 Thread Shermeen Khan
Hi all,

Does anyone know if there's a way to view shared outlook calendars in
the native mail app? I can sort of do it in the outlook app, but I am
wondering if this is possible in the native app as well.

Thanks very much,
Shermeen

re-setting all network settings

2019-08-13 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
Hi all. I’ve been having trouble staying connected to my wifi router, at
least I think that may be what’s going on. In the last month I’ve used more
than quadruple my normal data usage using my phone in the same way I’ve
normally used it. I often get a prompt when I use SIRI that there is a
problem with my internet connection. I’ve turned off cellular data on some
of the apps I don’t use anywhere but at home so that might help save my
data. I’m thinking that I might do well do re-set all network settings to
see if that may help resolve the issue. If I do that, I’m thinking that the
only thing I have to re-do are my wifi settings. Is that correct. I’m
also going to unplug my router, wait a minute or so, and plug it back in.
My husband’s phone doesn’t seem to have the same issue. I’m running an
IPhone 7 with 12.4.

Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your advice on this issue and
for all the good information I receive from this group.

God bless!

I thought it was going to explode or something. it took an hour to go from a
small crack to one big enough for a pencil to go into.

as for a backup I had an encrypted one on my computer, and everything was
flawless, passwords and everything. I am pretty happy with how it turned out
even though it took over a week to resolve, oh and they gave me a loner phone
while mine was being fixed. I have n complaints at all.

I'm so glad you finally got up and running with a new device.

As for me, I had about a 2-second scare when I placed my original SIM card in

after about 2 seconds, it did, in fact activate and has been working as
expected ever since.

I'll tell you one thing, it is far better to make an encrypted backup of your
phone via iTunes on a computer, rather than iCloud.

Before I took my phone into Apple, I made both an iTunes and an iCloud backup.
I did this in order to see what kind of differences would be the result when
restored, although I already had a pretty good idea.

Well, to make a long story even longer, I can tell you that only from my iTunes
backup was I able to have apps, no longer available from the App Store be
automatically reinstalled to my device.

great. I'm now signed into dropbox, as well as be my eyes. I did use
my google info to get signed into be my eyes and it worked just fine
for both apps. I haven't used be my eyes just yet, but I'll give it a

I remember reading a post on one of those TechCrunch or The Verge or Lifehacker
sites maybe two weeks ago that gave a cheat sheet on how to tell what type of
iOS device you've got by the first letter the IMEI or serial number starts with.
I off hand don’t' recall exactly how it went, but I'm sure a quick internet
search will bring it up.

Hello Sieghard,

In my case, I was handed the original box from which I removed this device,
said box having the devices ID numbers and such on it's label. This is what
prompted me to ask about the phone as I assumed it would be a refurbished
model. I was told that, had they any refurbished models, then I would have
been given one; however, as it turned out, they did not so, hence my new phone.

Now, as to your statement, I must ask, how on earth did you determine that your
replacement device was, in fact, a refurbished model?

because for all intends and purposes an Apple refurbished phone is as good as

Hello All,

Well, I took my 8 Plus into the Genius Bar, today and they quicly determined
that the Lightning port had some bad pins. As a result, just 3 months before
my Apple Care Plus warranty is to expire, I received a brand new iPhone 8 Plus.
They were quick to point out that this is a new phone and not a refurbish one.
 So much the better, eh?

To be honest, I was planning on getting a new phone this coming fall but, if I

I am so glad that I took the phone in and had it checked out.

reports came in from all across the world. Now the glitch was not devastating
and, in the end, it did not impact the use of the phone to the extent that one
would return it to the store but the glitch existed and Apple denied its
existence. Actually, they did finally admit to the issue about 9 months in but
only to beta testers.

Sometimes I feel as though my beloved 8 Plus is seen as being a second-class
device in the Apple orchard.

My point, just because Apple denies knowledge of something, means nothing.

Okay, now that I've got that off my chest, (big smile), that's about all for

All replies greatly appreciated.

RE: Have a quick question about signing into the dropbox app

2019-08-13 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Joshua,

When establishing a new account with various apps or websites, many give you
the option to create the account using an existing Google or Facebook account
credentials. I never use these options and instead prefer setting up a new
account with my email address and the password I provide. Normally, when using
existing Google account credentials, I don't believe you're prompted for a
password. At some point, I expect you'll be on the Dropbox website where you'll
need to log into your account. I'm not sure if it prompts you to use an
existing Google account there or you have to remember that you used Google
account credentials when setting up the Dropbox account and enter the
appropriate user ID and password. This is one of the reasons I prefer setting
up new accounts when prompted and I also make sure to save my credentials in my
Keepass passwords database.

Good luck with your Dropbox account.

RE: Resolution to: RE: A Question to iPhone 8 Users, Regarding Streaming Audio to the Apple EarPods Through the Lightning Port After Updating to the Latest iOS Version

2019-08-13 Thread M. Taylor
Alia,

Wow! That sounds awful.

I'm so glad you finally got up and running with a new device.

As for me, I had about a 2-second scare when I placed my original SIM card in
my replacement phone and was told that it could not be activated. However,
after about 2 seconds, it did, in fact activate and has been working as
expected ever since.

Well, to make a long story even longer, I can tell you that only from my iTunes
backup was I able to have apps, no longer available from the App Store be
automatically reinstalled to my device.

my battery swelled. you should have seen my phone gap grow. it was kind of
frightening! anyway when I took it in I found out it had a recall on the
processor so it was all done free, and when I got it back we or they or my cell
provider couldn’t get a simcard to work in it at all, so I ended up with a
replacement phone. who knows what I have now! what an ordeal.

To be honest, I was planning on getting a new phone this coming fall but, if I
don't see a model about which I am particularly enthusiastic, I will probably
stay with my 8 Plus. We shall see.

I am so glad that I took the phone in and had it checked out.

Subject: A Question to iPhone 8 Users, Regarding Streaming Audio to the Apple
EarPods Through the Lightning Port After Updating to the Latest iOS Version

Hello Fellow iPhone 8 Users,

For whatever reason that I cannot discern, ever since I updated to the latest
version of iOS, I cannot reliably listen to audiobooks / streaming audio/ or,
some days, even audio sound through the included wired Apple Earpods on my 8
Plus, via the Lightning port.

I have no problem accepting that my phone has a damaged port but my inability
to consistently reproduce the issue gives me great pause. And, "yes," I have
thoroughly cleaned the port and I have tested several different sets of EarPods
on the 8 Plus. For the record, none of my EarPods have this problem on any of
my other devices.

And again, this issue did not occur until after the update.

Ultimately, I will take the phone into Apple, as it continues to be under
warranty but I wanted to post the question here, just to see what kind of
replies I receive.

Yes, I've already called Apple and, true to form, they deny any knowledge of
any such glitch. Please be aware that on the very first day that the 8 series
was released, there was a boot-up problem which I immediately identified and
reported to Apple. They, of course, denied the boot-up glitch until about 1
year later when they finally fixed the problem with a later version of iOS.
They continued to deny the boot-up glitch even after hundreds and hundreds of
reports came in from all across the world.

Okay, now that I've got that off my chest, (big smile), that's about all for
now.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark,

That's great. I got a brand new iPhone 5 due to a bad headphone jack a couple
of weeks before my AppleCare was about to lapse in 2015 and have bought
AppleCare with every new iPhone purchase since. Enjoy your new IPhone 8 Plus
and I expect it will be preferable over the new iPhones released this September.

Re: Robot vacuums

2019-08-13 Thread Yolanda Thompson
I have the I7 model, and it is 99.9 percent accessible. You will need
help labeling rooms with the mapping, but the app is awesome. I love
the clean base so the vaccuum empties itself. There is a voice on the
vaccuum if the bin is out of alignment, but all other problems the
vaccuum encounters are sent to your phone and you know what to fix.
It also has a locater on it. It works minimally with Alexa as well.

  Subject: re-setting all network settings

Hi all. I’ve been having trouble staying connected to my wifi router, at
least I think that may be what’s going on. In the last month I’ve used more
than quadruple my normal data usage using my phone in the same way I’ve
normally used it. I often get a prompt when I use SIRI that there is a problem
with my internet connection. I’ve turned off cellular data on some of the apps
I don’t use anywhere but at home so that might help save my data. I’m thinking
that I might do well do re-set all network settings to see if that may help
resolve the issue. If I do that, I’m thinking that the only thing I have to
re-do are my wifi settings. Is that correct. I’m also going to unplug my
router, wait a minute or so, and plug it back in. My husband’s phone doesn’t
seem to have the same issue. I’m running an IPhone 7 with 12.4.

Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your advice on this issue and

my battery swelled. you should have seen my phone gap grow. it was kind of

provider couldn’t get a simcard to work in it at all, so I ended up with a
replacement phone. who knows what I have now! what an ordeal.

Now the glitch was not devastating
and, in the end, it did not impact the use of the phone to the extent that one
would return it to the store but the glitch existed and Apple denied its
existence. Actually, they did finally admit to the issue about 9 months in but
only to beta testers.

Sometimes I feel as though my beloved 8 Plus is seen as being a second-class
device in the Apple

Josh, you may find that putting in your Gmail account into the regular Mail app
may be good enough. I have used my gmail this way for years, and have not
needed anything that the Gmail app provides. I guess you could try it both ways
and see which works the best. Try another app called Eye-d. I found it the
other day and really enjoy that it has a small GPS feature and some camera
stuff, so I paid for a couple of extra features.

Hi to all. I am really having fun with my new phone. I have all
kinds of fun apps ready to go. I'm signed into audible, dropbox,
zoom, and be my eyes as well as bard mobile. I didn't even have to
sign into zoom as I used google and it kind of logged in all by
itself. I tried be my eyes and it works ok. I'll have to figure out
why my camera shows up blurry to the be my eyes person, but other then
that I'm doing well. Once I figure out how to put in a meeting ID for
zoom, I'll be in good shape. I don't have an email app yet, but I
might get gmail since that's what I use on my computer. Bard mobile
is a lot of fun, and I have a lot of books downloaded to my phone
ready for reading. Apple accessibility is very helpful as well as a
very good friend of mine. I have google play music, google assistant,
and google home. I have successfully set up my google home and it is
working once again. Google assistant is also a lot of fun. I have an
app with different versions of the Bible in audio format that works
pretty well. I also have seeing AI on my phone as well. Pandora is
on my phone, but that isn't very accessible. I have tunin radio which
I can access with my google assistant. I know I'll learn more from
this point on.

I love Bard mobile too!

Do you have voice dream scanner and voice o c r yet??? Both great text

Not in the *mail* app, but in the calendar app yes. Apple kept different

Hi to all. I am really having fun with my new phone. I have all kinds of fun
apps ready to go. I'm signed into audible, dropbox, zoom, and be my eyes as
well as bard mobile. I didn't even have to sign into zoom as I used google and
it kind of logged in all by itself. I tried be my eyes and it works ok. I'll
have to figure out why my camera shows up blurry to the be my eyes person, but
other then that I'm doing well. Once I figure out how to put in a meeting ID
for zoom, I'll be in good shape. I don't have an email app yet, but I might
get gmail since that's what I use on my computer. Bard mobile is a lot of fun,
and I have a lot of books downloaded to my phone ready for reading. Apple
accessibility is very helpful as well as a very good friend of mine. I have
google play music, google assistant, and google home. I have successfully set
up my google home and it is working once again. Google assistant is also a lot
of fun. I have an app with different versions of the Bible in audio format
that works pretty well. I also have seeing AI on my phone as well. Pandora is
on my phone, but that isn't very accessible. I have tunin radio which I can
access with my google assistant. I know I'll learn more from this point on.

RE: re-setting all network settings

2019-08-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, definitely do the router first, if it is your router you should also login
and make sure it is updated to the latest firmware.
If that doesn’t solve the issue a reset network settings is a good idea and it
may fix your issues. Keep in mind that you will have to reconnect to your WiFi
including entering the password.

Subject: re-setting all network settings

Hi all. I’ve been having trouble staying connected to my wifi router, at least
I think that may be what’s going on. In the last month I’ve used more than
quadruple my normal data usage using my phone in the same way I’ve normally
used it. I often get a prompt when I use SIRI that there is a problem with my
internet connection. I’ve turned off cellular data on some of the apps I don’t
use anywhere but at home so that might help save my data. I’m thinking that I
might do well do re-set all network settings to see if that may help resolve
the issue. If I do that, I’m thinking that the only thing I have to re-do are
my wifi settings. Is that correct. I’m also going to unplug my router, wait a
minute or so, and plug it back in. My husband’s phone doesn’t seem to have the
same issue. I’m running an IPhone 7 with 12.4.
Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your advice on this issue and
for all the good information I receive from this group.
God bless!

That screen that says mail, calendar, contacts, etc., is a set of switches that
you turn on so that the Mail app collects that information. Once you turn each
thing
on or off, depending on what you want, then press Save and you'll be put into
your inbox.

Hi to all. I just installed the dropbox app on my iPhone 8. When I opened the

entered my email address. I was then taken to a password auto fill thing. I
put in my finger print and I guess it worked since when I touched my finger to

I was asked to enter in another password. Is this my dropbox password, or
what? Thanks.
