Re: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread Richard Turner
The problem is reading on the curve. The best solution is to get the pharmacy
to connect with Envision America and their ScrirtTalk program which gives
visually impaired people access to all of the medication info including the
prescription number and refills remaining, etc.
You could try Voice Dream Scanner.

Subject: How to take screenshots on iPad

Hello,
I have been trying to get an application for work to install on my 7th gen iPad
10.2 running iPadOS 15.7.1, but each time I try to install it I get an error.
Our IT support wants me to take a screen shot of the error message and send it
to them.

So while using voiceOver, how do I take a screenshot on my iPad, and where do I
find it once it has been taken?

RE: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread Richard Turner
It is far safer to use a service like Aira where the people are licensed and
bonded as well as trained for this kind of personal information if you don’t
have access to something like ScriptTalk through your pharmacy. Push the
pharmacy to begin using accessible label systems.

I would never put anything like prescription information out there on Facebook.

LIDAR is not OCR. Perhaps the built-in text recognition in the camera could do
it these days, but the best is getting the pharmacy to use an accessible label
like through ScriptTalk.

Re: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread Julian
If you're using the short text function in Seeing AI, sometimes these kinds of
labels could pose a problem. I've had better luck using the document channel.
You might wanna give that a shot.

Are there any accessible apps for the vacuum robots?

2022-11-26 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi All,

Are any of the robot vacuum accessible using an app on the iPhone? I have a
friend that is blind and looking for a robot vacuum that might have an
accessible app for the iPhone. If not which robot vacuum do you feel is easy
to setup and use by a blind person. Also he wants the one that automatically
dumps. If you have any ideas or suggestions on this please let me know.

Mr. ed

Re: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread 'Sandy Tomkins' via VIPhone
Hi,

I am wondering if this might not be a perfect example where NaviLens could
be of use? Not only can the labels be as small as you need them, they could
also translate for those whose language is not the prevailing one, so,
visitors from abroad etc. It is free aty the point of use and would be totally
simple for pharmacies to apply.

NaviLens is such wonderful stuff!!!

P.S. not sure, but think that the adtual licence for the public labels would
have to be owned by the manufacturer.sandy and Z.

The problem is reading on the curve. The best solution is to get the pharmacy
to connect with Envision America and their ScrirtTalk program which gives
visually impaired people access to all of the medication info including the
prescription number and refills remaining, etc.
You could try Voice Dream Scanner.

RE: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Caroline, LiDAR has absolutely nothing to do with reading anything at least not
to my knowledge.
The term LiDAR stands for "Light Detection and Ranging" which means the LiDAR
sensor consists of an transmitter which sends out a laser beam, this is
reflected by an object or objects and received again by the receiver component
of the sensor. Then the "TOF" which stands for time of flight is used to
calculate the distance so while LiDAR might be used to enable features like
door detection and so on, it has nothing to do with performing OCR on printed
text.

The Roomba app is very accessible, with just a few tiny accessibility issues.

Hi All,

Are any of the robot vacuum accessible using an app on the iPhone? I have a
friend that is blind and looking for a robot vacuum that might have an
accessible app for the iPhone. If not which robot vacuum do you feel is easy to
setup and use by a blind person. Also he wants the one that automatically
dumps. If you have any ideas or suggestions on this please let me know.

Hi,

I am wondering if this might not be a perfect example where NaviLens could
be of use? Not only can the labels be as small as you need them, they could
also translate for those whose language is not the prevailing one, so,
visitors from abroad etc. It is free aty the point of use and would be totally

NaviLens is such wonderful stuff!!!

P.S. not sure, but think that the adtual licence for the public labels would

I would suggest something from Roborock. The app ismostly accessible and they

RE: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi All,
I wrote this letter out to people in Aberdeen where I live. Where ever you live
you have to talk to your Walmart store and request the scrip talk if they do
not have it. Just to let you know they probably are going to tell you they
don't have it and can't get it. But this is not correct. Walmart has a policy
that if anyone request this service they have to get it. So if they give you a
hassle just call Envision America and explain it to them and they will contact
the Walmart store and get it going for you. I have informed this to many people
and this has worked in the past. What also is nice is they will FX the
prescriptions out to you for free. So what do you have to loose. Give it a try.
It only takes a couple of phone calls. See all the info below explaining the
process and numbers to call.
To Who It May Concern,
I was able to get Aberdeen’s Walmart to get ScripTalk into the Pharmacy. What
does this mean and what can it do for you?
1. It is a free device that reads the prescription information on
prescription bottles with a device provided free from Envision America. This is
for visually impaired or for people who have a hard time reading their
prescription bottles. It gives all the information on the bottle including
other information about the medication.
2. You can also use an app on a smart phone to read the information on the
prescription bottle.
3. Walmart will also mail the prescription out to you free by FedX from
the Aberdeen store and you should get it next day.

All the device and shipping is free with no extra cost to anyone.

The first thing to do is call Envision America at 800-890-1180 and provide them
your information and they will ship you out the device to read your
prescription at no cost and get everything going for you.

Then call or go to Walmart and they will get all your meds sent to their
pharmacy for you and add the Scriptalk tag to your prescription bottle so you
can read them with the free Envision America device which is easy to use with
one button to push to get it to read the prescription bottle or use your smart
phone with the Envision America Scriptalk app.

Here is the website to read more about it.

Audible Prescription Labels | ScripTalk Talking Labels | En-Vision America
(envisionamerica.com)

I do not work for Walmart or Envision America or make any money promoting this
product that is free to the customer. I am just doing this as I am a blind
individual that now uses this service and believe many more people could
benefit from this free service. I have been trying to get a pharmacy in
Aberdeen to provide this service for over five years or so. Aberdeen’s Walmart
just started this service on April 22, 2022. I just got my first prescription
with the new service and it works great. So give it a try as what do you have
to lose.
So please pass the word out to all people who could benefit in using this great
service to read their prescription bottles.

RE: Cellular Home Internet Experiences

2022-11-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't know about the US, but here in Canada internet via a cellular
modem/smart hub or whatever they call it is rather expensive and often has low
data caps. As I said, this may be different in the US, but I would definitely
check if there is no other option for home internet even if it were just plain
old ADSL via a copper line if cable or fiber is not available.

And of course it all depends on whether you get really good cell reception and
if so from which provider, e.g. AT&T, T-Online, Sprint, Verizon. You would have
to find out and then inquire from the provider which gives you the best signal
as to what plans they have.

RE: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Featured snippet from the web when doing a Google search for "What is Navilens":
NaviLens reads out signs and provides train arrivals in audio to help blind or
low-vision users navigate the station. The app works with Voice Over
accessibility settings on your smartphone to guide you around the interface,
but you do not need to turn on Voice Over for the app to start giving you audio
guidance.

Then of course if you do that search there will be a link where you can read
much more information about it.

Help!

Someone sent me a Venmo request. I chose pay. Then send and it won't go
through. Is it a voiceover thing?

RE: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread Richard Turner
I'm not Ed,
But in Ed's first line he stated:
> I wrote this letter out to people in Aberdeen where I live.

I would presume that is Aberdeen, Canada...

I don't think he said it was easy, you have to convince your local Walmart to
check with Corporate if they are not aware of the service, then you probably
have to call Envision America to get them to contact the local store and get
the message through to them.
That is not easy.

But, it is necessary and will benefit everyone with any reading impairment.

Question about LiDAR on my 14 Pro.

2022-11-26 Thread Carolyn
I heard Jonathan Mosen's podcast about ID on the iPhone.
Mine does not give the details that his did. It does not say
wooden door, it does not say anything about carpet or
curtain color. I am wondering why that is.

Then the "TOF" which stands for time of flight is used to
calculate the distance so while LiDAR might be used to enable features like
door detection and so on, it has nothing to do with performing OCR on printed
text.

The problem is reading on the curve. The best solution is to get the pharmacy
to connect with Envision America and their ScrirtTalk program which gives
visually impaired people access to all of the medication info including the
prescription number and refills remaining, etc.
You could try Voice Dream Scanner.

RE: Question about LiDAR on my 14 Pro.

2022-11-26 Thread Richard Turner
Was Jonathan using the Magnifier features?

If so, you probably don’t’ have the extra items checked.

When in Magnifier, double tap in the view finder, then double tap on Detection
mode, even if it says selected already.

Then, you have several options:

People Detection, Door detection, and Image description.

Remember, this will be a battery hog so pay attention to how much battery is
being used while experimenting with these settings.

Maybe on the 14 Pro it won’t be too bad on the battery.

I heard Jonathan Mosen’s podcast about ID on the iPhone. Mine does not give the
details that his did. It does not say wooden door, it does not say anything
about carpet or curtain color. I am wondering why that is.

2022-11-26 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello,I sent the following to the list after your first question on this subject. Here it is again.Try the following to detect and describe more objects. With Magnifier running, double tap the End button to turn detection off. Navigate to the Settings button and double tap it. From the dialog that appears find Settings again and double tap. You should be in another screen read out as Customise Controls. Swipe down or navigate by heading until you get to Detectors. There will be three buttons in here: People Detection, Door Detection and Image descriptions. Double tap each in turn and under the heading Feedback make sure Speech is turned on to enable it for each of the detection methods. You can also enable feedback with Sound and Haptics as well as Speech.By default you can double tap the back of your iPhone to get more information about doors.  This is assuming you’ve not changed any of the commands for VoiceOver.Malcolm ParfittOn 26 Nov 2022, at 19:28, Carolyn <4carol...@windstream.net> wrote:I heard Jonathan Mosen’s podcast about ID on the iPhone. RE: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread Richard Turner
Well, I've never been to any Aberdeen other than the one in Washington State,
but that, like others in the US, I suspect are not huge cities.

I probably should have guessed Washington State, rather than Canada, but even
locals around here don't know there is an Aberdeen, Washington, 😊.

Re: help venmo payment

2022-11-26 Thread Kelly Pierce
I do not recommend people use Venmo. In the terms of service, the
company states that the company has no responsibility for failed
payments. In fact, the customer is responsible for paying the company
an unlimited amount of money if the Venmo incurs losses or expanses as
a result of a failed payment. For this reason, I recommend more
accessible alternatives. These include PayPal, Zelle, and apple Pay.
All can make and receive person to person payments for no cost to
either party.

RE: help venmo payment

I don't think it's a VoiceOver issue. I use Venmo all of the time, and I

Help!
Someone sent me a Venmo request. I chose pay. Then send and it won't go
through. Is it a voiceover thing?

RE: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread Christopher Chaltain
It doesn't help with labelling the actual prescription bottles, but my pharmacy
has an app where I can track and refill prescriptions. Prescriptions get into
the app automatically when the doctor calls in the prescription. I live in
Texas and the app is HEB RX. Maybe other pharmacies have something similar.

LIDAR is not OCR. Perhaps the built-in text recognition in the camera could do
it these days, but the best is getting the pharmacy to use an accessible label
like through ScriptTalk.

The problem is reading on the curve. The best solution is to get the pharmacy
to connect with Envision America and their ScrirtTalk program which gives
visually impaired people access to all of the medication info including the
prescription number and refills remaining, etc.
You could try Voice Dream Scanner.

CVS and Wallgreens both offer online perscription refills. Just set up an
account with the app and you should be able to see all sorts of information

My retired Leader Dog, Chip, takes medicine for seizures. His medicine is

I do not recommend people use Venmo. In the terms of service, the company
states that the company has no responsibility for failed payments. In fact, the
customer is responsible for paying the company an unlimited amount of money if
the Venmo incurs losses or expanses as a result of a failed payment. For this
reason, I recommend more accessible alternatives. These include PayPal, Zelle,
and apple Pay.
All can make and receive person to person payments for no cost to either party.

RE: help venmo payment

2022-11-26 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
It wouldn’t let me send. I’m guessing because when I tapped payment method it
wouldn’t let me choose bank account. I finally had to log in via Chrome and pay
her that way. God what a pain.

Re: help venmo payment

2022-11-26 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,

I sent a payment Monday and it went through. What I'm not certain of is
if the app has updated between then and now so that might not help your
situation.
I'm sorry but as of Monday the payment did go through.  What I can't
make work is under more there's a button to view all of your friends on
Venmo and

that button will not work for me with VoiceOver.

Take good care,
Robin

RE: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sorry, can't help you there as I have an iPhone 11 which doesn't have LiDAR and
while it might be a nice feature, I am currently in no hurry to upgrade my
phone. I'll see what the iPhone 15 line up will offer next year and maybe I'll
upgrade then, but definitely not sooner and maybe not even then. I used to
upgrade every second year for the most part, but lately do I not only see less
and less of a desire to upgrade for relatively minor features or features which
I may use 3 times a year, but I am also trying to at least become a more
responsible global citizen by consuming less. It goes beyond the scope of this
post and even the list, but I recently read a thought provoking article which
stated that our society really has to shift to a different way of life before
we can actually make headway with things like reducing carbon emissions,
garbage, food waste and so many other things which seem to have become big
issues. I am not saying I completely stopped buying stuff I might like, but I
definitely think a bit more first and in some cases I do actually find that I
decide I may not need something.

Then the "TOF" which stands for time of flight is used to
calculate the distance so while LiDAR might be used to enable features like
door detection and so on, it has nothing to do with performing OCR on printed
text.

You could gently remove the label and get Seeing A I to read it. I guess LiDAR
could, if you have it?

The problem is reading on the curve. The best solution is to get the pharmacy
to connect with Envision America and their ScrirtTalk program which gives
visually impaired people access to all of the medication info including the
prescription number and refills remaining, etc.
You could try Voice Dream Scanner.

I tried seeing ai but it didn't work very well at all. The rx number

Just like places called Aberdeen there are also lots of Ed's, but I don’t think
any are as old as our Mr. Ed! And before you try to tell people there are also
lots of Sieghard's I'll save you the trouble, there are some, world wide
probably even a lot, but definitely not as many as Ed's! 😂

It's even a relatively rare name in Germany and I can honestly say that I have
never come across somebody who shares my name throughout school and growing up.
I do know quite a few with the name Siegfried, it's definitely more common.

And hey, I live in a small town called Smithers in British Columbia and you
guys down below the 49th parallel even had to copy that as there is aSmithers
in West Virginia although apparently our Smithers with a population of a bit
over 5,000 is positively a metropolitan centre compared to Smithers West
Virginia which apparently boasts a population of around 750.

And I am surprised nobody actually said when they here Aberdeen they think of
Aberdeen, Scotland where obviously all the other Aberdeens have copied there
name from since the original Scotland settlement was granted its first royal
charter in 1179 and a settlement probably existed there for 500 years before
since around the middle of the 6th century.

RE: Question about LiDAR on my 14 Pro.

2022-11-26 Thread Carolyn
Thank you for your easy-to-follow directions.

It is still not doing like Jonathan's. His told what color the carpet and
curtains were. Actually, in this room, it did say not enough light.

Hello,

I sent the following to the list after your first question on this subject.

Here it is again.

Try the following to detect and describe more objects.

With Magnifier running, double tap the End button to turn detection off.

Navigate to the Settings button and double tap it.

>From the dialog that appears find Settings again and double tap.

You should be in another screen read out as Customise Controls.

Swipe down or navigate by heading until you get to Detectors.

There will be three buttons in here:

People Detection, Door Detection and Image descriptions.

Double tap each in turn and under the heading Feedback make sure Speech is
turned on to enable it for each of the detection methods.

You can also enable feedback with Sound and Haptics as well as Speech.

By default you can double tap the back of your iPhone to get more information
about doors. This is assuming you’ve not changed any of the commands for
VoiceOver.

Hi,

I sent a payment Monday and it went through. What I'm not certain of is if the
app has updated between then and now so that might not help your situation.
I'm sorry but as of Monday the payment did go through. What I can't make work
is under more there's a button to view all of your friends on Venmo and
that button will not work for me with VoiceOver.

Take good care,
Robin

RE: help venmo payment

2022-11-26 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Yeah I can do it when I pay someone but when someone sends me a request, it
won’t let me double tap the bank account. Venmo just updated yesterday.

I’ve used it to both send money and pay requests. I don’t have a request to
process right now, so I can’t test it and give you any tips. I think selecting
the account or card to use is the same in either case though.

Re: Reading prescription labels

2022-11-26 Thread englishrider91
There's also a company called Accessible Pharmacy which I recently heard about.
They can provide prescription info using Envision, WayAround, large print, and
Braille. I'm not sure how detailed either the large print and Braille would be
in terms of prescription information, which is why I would want to use the
option for WayAround. Also, I already use WayAround for tagging a bunch of
stuff around my house, so it makes sense for me to use that over ScripTalk.

Anyhow, they'll also mail you your meds, and you can even get non-prescription
meds, and even meds for pets! I'm not sure if they're available in Canada, but
they are only available in about half the United States as of now.

Their website is:
www.accessiblepharmacy.com

Thanks,
Ari
