You'll find a program called Image Capture in your Applications
folder. You
can use this to browse and download selected photos onto your hard
disk.

From there you can import them into iPhoto.

Re: iPhoto question ?

2006-05-01 Thread Robert Howells

Paul,

You may be able to get at them this way :

System Preferences - Hardware : Cd's DVD's ...
Look for When you insert a Picture CDand select ignore

The camera should show up as a device like a hard drive on your desktop
.
You should then be able to find the index and select the photo's you
want .

If you need to open the file try ... Open ... in Apple's Preview .

This is all presuming your photo's are in an acceptable format and the
camera can be read by your OS .

The alternative is to take the memory card out of the Camera and find a
reader that it will fit.

If you are still in trouble please tell the list what make and model
Camera .

usb floppy drives

2006-05-01 Thread Mervyn Giuliana Bond
I have a library of old floppies. Yesterday afternoon I spent
several hours transferring floppies to my Performa with the intent of
shifting them to my iMac for burning on CDs.
I've hardly scratched the surface and thought the purchase of usb
floppy drive might be a sensible alternative.

Has anyone used these devices?
Do they read 2DD floppies (800k) as well as 2HD (1.44k)?
Advice appreciated.

iTunes prefs?

2006-05-01 Thread Neil Houghton
When I import CDs I like to include the composer year fields but the
default iTunes views does not show these fields when a new CD is inserted -
so the info is not downloaded from the online database unless I first go to
view options and select these fields.

The trouble is these selected fields do not stick as the default when
inserting a CD and I'm getting really bored with manually selecting the view
options for every new CD.

I've checked out all the preferences and even iTunes help but can't seem to
find any way to include these fields into the default view when a new CD is
inserted.

I'm sure there MUST be an easy way to do this? Any suggestions?

TIA

Hard Drive for PowerBook

2006-05-01 Thread Rod Blitvich
Hi
I have a 1.25 GHz G4 PowerBook with 80 GB HD.
10.3.9

I just can't cope with the lack of space.
I have deleted thousands of photos and a third of my iTunes library as well
as all my movies. (keeping full copies of iphoto and itunes on the family
iMac)
I still only have 5GB of free space.

Please can anyone advise: is it possible to install a larger HD?
If so, rough costs?

Thanks

Could I ask a question of the group. When you have found a photo
using the search facility how do you then find that photo in the main

No, I have not made myself clear. I want to find a particular photo

to know where it is,physically, in the library. I hope you now

Hi Neil,

Yes, I know what you mean. I like Composer year in View Options.
And it doesn't stay as default.
I change the Edit View Options after the CD shows in iTunes then
I import the CD.

I haven't tried this AppleScript, but it might help you.
http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts06.php?
page=2#assimilateviewoptions

This script re-creates your playlists (excepting Smart Playlists)
then deletes the old ones so all of the View Options are the same as
the main library (taking advantage of the fact that new playlists
acquire the library's View Options).
