Re: Epson Stylus Photo TX700W MFP Wireless Printer
We have an Epson scanner which has the little lightbox for negatives or strips of film included. It has also worked very well. Trav's Tip
Stupid, I know, but I discovered (by accident) a handy feature in Leopard that stems from an old handy feature in Photoshop. For a while now, we've been able to take a screenshot of a section of the screen by pressing Command+Shift+4, and then click and drag to create a marque of what we want to capture. In Leopard, you don't have to worry about the origin of the marque. Once you click and drag to start the marque, just hold down the space bar to move the marque to where you want (this is the handy bit). Release the space bar to resize the marque and release the mouse button as usual to take the snapshot. Of course this is probably documented somewhere, but who reads ALL the new features of a new OS? cheers ..::D-[ Travis -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Neil, I tried the firmware using both Firefox and hardwiring Mac to router, and it worked. So I don't know whether it was Firefox or ethernet that fixed it, but I no longer care :-) Thanks for the ideas. Still no luck extending the network with the Time Capsule though. We shall persist. In my case, the problem was Safari - which looked to be working fine when logged onto the router but had issues with some settings commands (don't ask me - I only found out through a mention on a forum post somewhere!). In my case, using Firefox to change the settings then worked. With the firmware update - do you have access to a PC, or Windows on your Mac, if so you could try running the upgrade from Windows. I don't have any info to suggest that this is the problem - but it wouldn't be the first time that something like this ends up being OSX incompatibility. Re: Trav's Tip
On 27/10/2008, at 8:49 PM, Travis Hansen wrote: Stupid, I know, but I discovered (by accident) a handy feature in Leopard that stems from an old handy feature in Photoshop. Of course this is probably documented somewhere, but who reads ALL the new features of a new OS? cheers ..::D-[ Travis You may also have discovered that pressing the space bar immediately after pressing Command+Shift+4 changes the crosshairs to a camera icon. This can be used to take snapshts of entire windows, the Dock, and even open menus. Give it a go if you haven't already; and you're correct: this stuff is not well-documented, certainly not within Mac OS X itself. You either discover it by accident or follow the various tips 'n' techniques sites on the web. -- Peter HinchliffeApwin Computer Services FileMaker Pro Solutions Developer Perth, Western Australia Phone (618) 9332 6482Fax (618) 9332 0913 Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to. -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Mouse and trackball
I notice that several members are proclaiming the merits of their favourite mouse. Many years ago I found that hours of daily use of the mouse was leaving me with muscle tightness, even spasms, in the upper trapezius. Even switching hands did little to ease the problem; it only shifted the shoulder cramp to the other side. I started using a trackball, and those problems ceased. It seemed that the slight, but frequent, lifting action required for mousing was the problem. A trackball does not require that same action. As my arm can rest throughout while using the trackball (it's almost all finger movement) shoulder muscle movement was just about eliminated. I've used Kensington trackballs daily since owning the Mac LC. No shoulder or wrist problems. Re: Long shot - anyone using Linksys WAG160N with Time Capsule ?
Hi Steven, That's good to hear. I should have mentioned to always use the ethernet connection when messing with the router settings. Trying to setup a wireless router via the wireless connection is a bit like trying to saw off the tree branch when you're sitting on it - asking for trouble :) With the other problem, try Googling with the key points (Mac OSX Linksys WAG160N wireless extend Time Capsule - that sort of thing) - you can sometimes find the same problem discussed on various forums. Good luck Neil -- Neil R. Cheers, Steven On 27/10/2008, at 5:47 AM, Neil Houghton wrote: Hi Stephen, I don't know if it is relevant, but recently when changing some settings on my Billion ADSL2 router, I found that some settings were not being correctly applied - ie I could log onto the router change the settings and all looked fine - but if I went to another settings screen then went back it would be showing the original settings. Again, I would stress that these are just some thoughts - I have no direct experience with this router. Cheers Neil -- Neil R. Strange things happening
My friend is a teacher and the school computer people do everything for him. I don't have the full details of the machine but i do know it is running 10.5 and just recently they reinstalled system and put parallels [i think that's what it is i don't use it myself] and now it is very unstable. From what i can gather he will open an application, say word, and start typing a document and after about 30 seconds it jumps to the finder and he has to click back on the app to continue and then it will do it again. He says it is happening with all applications. does anyone have any idea what could be wrong Yvonne -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Under the Mouse tab, he may have the buttons set to do things. (ie the top and bottom choices on the System Preference mouse picture). Personally I find them annoying, and always turn them off and just have the Primary Button and Secondary button set. But I do know by default with a standard install and a Mighty Mouse, that they are set to do things, so this could be the jumping you mention.
