Since the problem only appeared after the auto update, it seems highly

Under your Apple drop down menu do an about this Mac to

We have an Epson scanner which has the little lightbox for negatives

the market now.

Hello People,

For people interested in being able to wirelessly Print / Scan /

above printer from Daniel Kerr (MacWizardry).

After a disastrous few days without a Multi Function Printer after
my Epson RX700 died last Saturday (why does equipment decide to
die on week-ends?).
Daniel (of MacWizardry) pulled out all stops and went beyond the
call of duty, allowing me to use his MF Printer so I could print
my designed labels onto some DVD's to complete a job I had to
deliver on Monday.

Daniel contracted the wholesaler (when they opened) on Monday and
rushed up to pickup the NEW Epson Stylus Photo TX700W MFP Wireless
Printer (that has just arrived in WA).
Which I then picked up from Daniel's and after a few hours of
unpacking, installing the TX700W Software Drivers, I was back in
business.

Setting it up to Connect to my Airport Wireless Network took a
little longer (the instructions were a little confusing), but
perseverance paid off and eventually I had TX700W connecting to my
Airport Network (using Ethernet Cable connected to my Remote
Airport Base Station) and I was Printing / Scanning / copying /
print to Disc / Wirelessly ... no cables connected to my
MacBook Pro!

I loved my Epson RX700, but, he only lasted 3 years and cost $699AU
http://www.epson.com.au/products/multifunctional/stylusphotorx700.asp

The NEW Epson Stylus Photo TX700W MFP Wireless Printer only costs
$299AU ...

http://www.epson.com.au/products/multifunctional/stylusTX700W.asp
If you look at the flash movie it says 'Carefree wireless
connection' A wireless LAN module enables printer sharing among
multiple users at home or in the office. An array of functions,
including scanning, copying printing can be used on a wireless
network

To be able to wirelessly Print / Scan / Copy on a wireless network.
Now that is TERRIFIC!

Trav's Tip

2008-10-27 Thread Travis Hansen
Stupid, I know, but I discovered (by accident) a handy feature in
Leopard that stems from an old handy feature in Photoshop.

For a while now, we've been able to take a screenshot of a section of
the screen by pressing Command+Shift+4, and then click and drag to
create a marque of what we want to capture. In Leopard, you don't have
to worry about the origin of the marque. Once you click and drag to
start the marque, just hold down the space bar to move the marque to
where you want (this is the handy bit). Release the space bar to
resize the marque and release the mouse button as usual to take the
snapshot.

Of course this is probably documented somewhere, but who reads ALL the
new features of a new OS?

cheers   ..::D-[

My problem with TheBom widget, which I downloaded from Apple's list
of recommended widgets on two separate occasions, is that it won't
give me anything other than Melbourne, although it is advertised as
now providing for hundreds of sites. I am awaiting a reply to my
emailed enquiry to radocaj.com.

What might I not be doing, clicking or entering that I should be
doing?

RFI - Mid 2007 MacBook Pro

2008-10-27 Thread Malcolm Burtenshaw

Hey Guys,

I'm looking over the new 15 MacBook Pros and I'm almost sold but as a
result I need to find out how much I can give away my current 15 MBP
for. It's the 128MB VRAM version and still under warranty via the
magic of Applecare. Just looking for practical pricing from genuinely
interest parties and if any sound good I might be able to do a
switcheroo to get a new MBP with the proceeds from the sale.

Hi all

The mention of Parallels Desktop in relation to a problem leads me to
report that, on some occasions, Quicken 2008 display breaks up into
flickering chunks, just like a failing neon advertising sign. The only
way that I can stop it is to shut down both Q2008 and Vista.

Q 2008 is currently the only app I am using via Vista Ultimate on my
Intel Mac. It doesn't happen so often now that I make a practice of
closing, rather than pausing Vista when I go off for a cuppa, or
lunch, or when my better half has a more pressing need of the
computer. (We don't have separate accounts.)

Any ideas what might cause the flickering?

pdf printer

2008-10-27 Thread Alex Novakovic

Hi Wamuggians

I have just been to VersionTracker for the first time ever looking for
a pdf printer (?) for those times that I may not have a printer
connected or it's not working or I could be travelling. I need a
Leopard Tiger version but can only find pdf Writers on
VersionTracker - I need it to be a printer rather than a program for
creating etc pdf documents. While I do get a print in pdf option with
my Brother MFC-620CN printer, this option does not appear all the
time! (and only appears at all when I use the Macs vs the Win laptop!!)

I have searched under pdf printer and pdf printer driver and
virtual pdf printer. Could someone please point me in the right
direction?

Many thanks in advance,

Cheers, Alex

Stupid, I know, but I discovered (by accident) a handy feature in

For a while now, we've been able to take a screenshot of a section of

create a marque of what we want to capture.

You may also have discovered that pressing the space bar immediately
after pressing Command+Shift+4 changes the crosshairs to a camera
icon. This can be used to take snapshts of entire windows, the Dock,
and even open menus. Give it a go if you haven't already; and you're
correct: this stuff is not well-documented, certainly not within Mac
OS X itself. You either discover it by accident or follow the various
tips 'n' techniques sites on the web.

Mouse and trackball

2008-10-27 Thread Vladimir James
I notice that several members are proclaiming the merits of their
favourite mouse.

Many years ago I found that hours of daily use of the mouse was
leaving me with muscle tightness, even spasms, in the upper trapezius.
Even switching hands did little to ease the problem; it only shifted
the shoulder cramp to the other side. I started using a trackball, and
those problems ceased.

It seemed that the slight, but frequent, lifting action required for
mousing was the problem. A trackball does not require that same
action. As my arm can rest throughout while using the trackball (it's
almost all finger movement) shoulder muscle movement was just about
eliminated.

I've used Kensington trackballs daily since owning the Mac LC. No
shoulder or wrist problems.

Hi Steven,

That's good to hear. I should have mentioned to always use the ethernet
connection when messing with the router settings.

Trying to setup a wireless router via the wireless connection is a bit like
trying to saw off the tree branch when you're sitting on it - asking for
trouble :)

With the other problem, try Googling with the key points (Mac OSX Linksys
WAG160N wireless extend Time Capsule - that sort of thing) - you can
sometimes find the same problem discussed on various forums.

Good luck

Hello Yvonne,

You have not given us much information to go on here. If you could
find out from your friend exactly what he is experiencing you will
probably receive some help.
Is the application Word 'Quitting', or is he just loosing sight of the
window he was typing in?

At a guess, and this is just a guess, your friend could be having a
problem using Spaces.
Do you know if he has Spaces enabled? System Preferences Expose
Spaces - Enable Spaces ticked?

Is he using Office 2008?
There is a bit of information here about Ongoing Office 2008 problems
with Spaces.

Really can't help until you get full details from your friend.

Also a follow up to what Ronni has posted,..check (if he's using the Apple
Mighty Mouse) the System Preferences - Keyboard and Mouse.
Under the Mouse tab, he may have the buttons set to do things. (ie the top
and bottom choices on the System Preference mouse picture).
Personally I find them annoying, and always turn them off and just have the
Primary Button and Secondary button set.
But I do know by default with a standard install and a Mighty Mouse, that
they are set to do things, so this could be the jumping you mention.

If not, as Ronni mentioned, just fire some more info back to the list.

Hopefully something will help.

Kind Regards
