Re:Intego - 'Mac Internet Security 2013' - Uninstallation (Julie Bedford)

2014-02-28 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Jewels,

I've changed the subject in case anyone needs to search the archives at some
time.

Have you uninstalled the 'Mac Internet Security 2013' following the
instructions (with screenshots) in the link in my previous email?
https://support.intego.com/entries/24937247-How-to-Uninstall-Intego-2013-Products#marketoID=undefined

If so, is Safari working properly again?

Intego - 'Mac Internet Security 2013' - Uninstallation

Uninstallation:
You will use the same installer you used to install your Intego software to
remove it.
1. Locate the disk image you downloaded from the Intego website and
double-click it to open it.
2. You will see the installer as you did when you installed the software.
Double-click the installer to start it.
3. One of the first options you see will ask you whether you are installing or
uninstalling the software.
4. Choose to uninstall the software and follow the instructions.

If you are unable to locate the original disk image, download the software
again from the link I supplied previously

2014-02-28 Thread Julie Bedford
Hi Ronni
I realise now I shouldn't have jumped in on another thread. Sorry about that.

I hadn't tried to uninstall as My Intego bundle as I thought it was a 2014, but
upon checking it is a 2013 version.
I have done as you instructed and my Mac confirmed it is all correctly
uninstalled now. Thank heavens.
I think next time I decide to buy a virus barrier, I'll consult you first.

Many thanks Ronni and my Safari now opens without a problem.

Cheers

Hi Ronni,

Wow, your last email contained a lot of important information. I'll keep it
safe for future reference and will not be purchasing any virus protection
in future. I guess I should upgrade from my OS 10.7 to 10.8 in order to gain
the extra protection too.

Thank you so much Ronni for your help. I really appreciate the WAMUG site

Re: Streaming movies

2014-02-28 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Severin Neil,

I have played Jenny's 'brilliant' - The Stream - on my iPad, and on my MacBook
Pro in both Safari Firefox.
All three can play in 'Full Screen' Neil... once the Quicktime Movie opens
begins download - click the arrows (at the bottom right, in the timeline -
play/pause control).

Severin... the great soundtrack brought back many happy memories; and I need to
find some time to search through my old vinyl records.
I have the original 1978 soundtrack of 'The War Of The Worlds'... I purchased
as soon as it was released ;-)

 Hi Sev,

I watch a lot of streaming video on a variety of sites. My first impressions:

In either firefox or safari, clicking the QT preview image opens another
small window to play the movie in – why do this, why not embed whatever
player you use directly in the page?
With either browser there is no option to “full-screen” the video – I always
“full-screen any video I think is worth watching!
A lot of quite large websites use either YouTube or Vimeo to present videos.
The video is hosted on their website and you embed the YouTube or Vimeo
player in your website (eg where the QT preview icon is currently. Some
examples (which all allow expanding the video to full-screen):
The vine (Fairfax media) often uses YouTube:
 http://www.thevine.com.au/video
Kickstarter often includes both own hosted and Vimeo video, eg
 https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1171695627/polar-pen-both-tool-and-toy-pen-stylus-made-from-m
has the main video self-hosted but has a Vimeo video on the pen features
 further down the page.

Just my 2c worth. I must admit, after enjoying nice streaming full-screen
video, I find small video windows very unsatisfying ;o)

One of the things I did when designing a few webpages was to note any
sites/pages that did something in a way I particularly liked and then check
out the page code to see how they were doing it – picked up a few good ideas
 that way ;o)

Hmmm,

Doesn¹t work for me maybe because I¹m still on SL and have an older QT
plug-in? There are no ³full-screen² arrows at the right of the bar - just
the forward/back arrows and then a ³down² arrow that gives a drop-down menu
that is mostly greyed out the one item that isn¹t ³About Quick-Time
plug-in² doesn¹t actually do anything when clicked!! (so I don¹t know the
version or if it¹s out of date?)
* OSX is 10.6.8
* Safari is 5.1.10

I spoke too soon, once the movie was fully downloaded, the plug-in menu
³save² options were no longer greyed out and you can save the .mov file -
and then, if you play it with the QT player (not with the QT plug-in in
Safari) you CAN full-screen it. The plug-in ³About Quick-Time plug-in² menu
item still does nothing though.

Luckily I was at the Mix opening so I HAVE seen the film on a big screen
anyway ;o))
